#The Sixth Voice -A Third Party Homebrew LCP
1 messages · Page 4 of 1
huh, I figured not cuz they let the zeilinger in
and purple thorn
black mountain have boobs?
no, but that was the result of the conversation
ok lol
i wanted it more androgynous
warframe players...
zeilinger?
he didnt draw it with tits to be clear
i just give gender as one of the art directions typically
ah ok
they dont check THAT far in
I gave my artist fighter jets for reference and he ghosted me for 5 months
just like, basic syntax
lol I figured
bar for bar this is what happened
Hi!
Hi!
YIPPIE
Mainly
IPS-N: actively funds piracy, smuggling etc. and poses the solution: get your stuff from IPS-N. Also massive monopoly (uncool)
SSC: lets steal people and sell their genes
Horus: bunch of cells in a trenchcoat. Does everything under the sun. But it averages out to: lets make shit that breaks reality (and hand it out for the cost of fucin with reality)
HA: the military industrial complex, citizenship granted through participation of a draft
ssc doesnt, STEAL people, they buy them
Oh the three mines in two turns with one mine of damage iirc
yeah no it's totally legal
stealing would be barbaric
Human trafficking
not sure its quite that far
yeah but they like all consented
but still weird
its more of a carrot than a stick but
but idk if "we have no idea what you are, but you are humans" is much better than the military industrial complex
especially when they make machines of such excessive cruelty
themes of corporations being bad because its part of being a big corporation who makes death machines?
unheard of
IPS-N has one caliban, horus is just a series of calibans
Exactly my problem. So Horus it is. Just Horus. Because Lich is mostly what I play because I dislike getting a scratch on my mech and I enjoy helping people and just kinda doing what I like. Great fun
but guns and mechs can be tools of liberation as much as oppression
HA fights against the Karakins who have slaves
IPS-N supports albatross
SSC is pretty
Page 337 (paid book) human made evil but also human made good
nuance? in my fictional setting????
ALWAYS
that is an interesting philosophy. Supporting the people killing people is technically not killing people I suppose
also killing people in lancer is not super common to be fair
:] I can be a pacifist and technically have a kill count. Though Nightmare is just there for fun
blowing up the mech is all you do 95% of the time
I agree no you are fully to blame for those deaths
lol Im just messing with you
I love dms that describe pilots of opponent mechs surviving and just leaving
IMO they're all evil, and horus just happens to kill people in the most horrific and brutal ways possible
so they're the most evil in my mind
well they dont just leave, its hard to look a guy in the eye after you crit him for 20 damage with a raptor plasma rifle
it probably wouldnt hurt much to get tachyon lanced
it would hurt like hell to be eaten a live by a balor
instruments of gaudy cruelty
I am the reason the lycan got across 1/3rd of a 40x40 map and I’ll take it because it’s great
IPS-N is a merciful death at the hands of a brick
only 1/3rd?
the nefarious sunzi
Yeah horus kills everyone equally :] if they do kill
I could only hand them prospector and a free boost
a balor moving 33 spaces in its standard move and having movement to spare
lol sunzi is just sunzi it doesnt count
So 5+6+6+6 it will be in movement
:]
Just boost
I wanna see how far that makes an ll3(nelson) everest go
To be fair I play mostly Lich, I have played so far
White Witch 1x
hydra 1x
Balor 1x
Kobold 1x
On the list still:
Gorgon, Goblin, manticore, minotaur, all horus alts
Gonna be fun
If you ever want to know more about liches you have permission to ping me. After all, verbatim, after core activation anything is yours to take, including npc effects (unless the dm says no)
I mean I have read lich
I've had a lich player
also why would the dm says no?
seems like a strange choice when everything the lich's active can stop is written right there
NPC priest buffs. NPC restock drone. A hound missile at point blank range (burst 1-2 and you’re next to the guy who shot it). And goblin ll3 celestial shackle on self because funny save spot to whichever enemy is trying to secure a point. Ignore overcharge.
I’ve seen dms say “don’t bring gorgon due to core power” or “don’t bring ghengis, burn is too good”
Did they use didymos to break someone out of a grapple?
?
i hate the gorgon
seems like a lot of cost for a little gain no why would you do that
something had to go very wrong
:] I know what happens next playtest
Yeah that’s what lich is for: post mortem survival and prevention
?
If shit hits the fan a lich is good to have
lich is strongest when it allows the players to get away with shit that they knew was gonna happen and did because they had a lich
IMO at least
i still stand by the fact that dydimos is dogshit
Sometimes three landmines is a worthwhile cost
nichely it is extremely good
which is not a good thing to be for a 3 sp AI
Agree, though it has a niche
and this niche will probably come up once in a campaign
ive never seen it used well
3 landmines used didymos
Didymos is fun for a sacrificial pawn but it could have maybe been a drone
Goodnight, I continue this tomorrow
egads, why?
i should Extrude Basilisk you for that
@rocky hawk is the psychopomp from Myconid a hostile action?
And would it be possible to make the passive core of myconid simply inflict +1 difficulty instead of impaired? That way it would harmonise with and incentivise scorpion due to impaired stacking onto the difficulty to give 2d6 dif
Because else scorpion just becomes a jammer
Does monitor module apply to psychopomp? That I designate a hostile as a target and the ally attacks so I get to skirmish against an ally? Or is that locked by the “you may only use this when folks move and you stab them”
not bela but imo, no
it's a support tool that happens to include an attack roll
so mayyybe for specific instances where "making an attack roll" is specified, it might count there. It'd be depend for me personally as a gm
Like Vorpal Gun there should be No other method of firing it.
This is why I ask Bel. Since what is written and what is the intent may differ
See my above comment
So I can’t activate mimic mesh. Damn. Aight. Thanks
Some dms might rule it differently
But hitting your friend isn't hostile
It would be very powerful to trigger your own mimic mesh
Can you answer the question concerning Halo?
Scorpion doesn't need to be stronger lmao
2 difficulty will never be better than not being able to make any attacks in the first place
I was simply curious
@rocky hawk hyper engineered munitions?
what about it
best damage system in the game
specifically on purple thorn with stalk the horizon it's a protocol to get 8 AP damage and impair people without a save
thermal charge is for melees (which do more damage usually), and it's limited 3 for 3.5 average damage
so over double lol
with impairment
it got changed slightly, it now ends at the end of your current turn so no stalk
4 ap if you land both
that is much more reasonable
still too good but more reasonable at least
especially since it's not a mod like thermal charge so you can still mod the weapons
I mean, thermal charge hardly any weaker on an aux than a main
mains get duelist accuracies
exactly
eh heavy is a better example
worse on everything other than auxes
this confuses me
cause they only effect one of the two
ok but that doesnt matter a lot of the time
shock wreathe, thermal charge
ripper mod
molten wreathe
greenlight projection
all of those are not hindered by being on an aux
not significantly no, but you land less hits than a main
only kind of
gunslinger also hands you a free accuracy
ripper mod is for ranged weapons, which duelist doesnt exist for
main rangeds do not get free accuracies like main melees or ranged auxes do
main ranged dont thats true
aux melees also get disdainful blade, so they get basically a reroll if the first one whiffs
which is better than duelist accuracy
free impairment is a lot
being able to decide if you wanna spend your limited charge AFTER you hit is also a lot
it does probably need a save though
ill concede that
I am happy with that lol
mostly happy with this tho
it is unfortunate that it cant work with stalk, just good interplay with the mech and license, but it literally has to be this way
fitzgerald player is switching to a purple thorn and we are using the old rules for the system which do work with stalk so I will let you know how absurd it is and you will not be surprised
whens your next session
saturday prob
hopeufly v2 will be out by then
wont be running it, changing builds last minute results in some major combat effectiveness losses
will switch to it after tho
unless the builds are hardly changed then we will
fair enough
doing a playtest in aobut 30 minutes, if anyone here is interested lemme know
i wish
agony
timing is never good for me
fuck it I'm not doing anything today
I'm in
sick
we using the latest npc from here or a new one?
ill send the most up to date on
Here
i just was read back in this chat for the stuff i missed from working, is seneshal another LCP project? or worldbuilding stuff
i forgotten the hazard existed 😭
LMAO
is the system point on that and the heat to make it different from GMS rifle?
It's to make up for the sheer fucking range of it
point at guy, flick them in the forehead
Exactly
im being reminded of hazard nonsense
with stat comp and the frame trait of plus one reliable on panic breaker can you make the reliable bigger than the regular damage
base 6 damage, reliable four, goes to 5 on the hazard and 7 with statistical compensator
The reliable trait actually got a buff
It's now 1/2 grit
So 1 till 6
And at 12 you get 3
and that can exceed a weapons normal damage?
yes
my brain is telling me this could be stupid but so am i
so there are no ideas up there
RAW Reliable is the minimum possible damage a weapon can do.
If you get Reliable that exceeds a weapon's damage, then it deals the Reliable damage
it maxes at 3 at ll12
your still pretty far under enemy hp and damage scaling
still not happy with koremasa stuff
made some changes
plasma shimmer now gives the passive from shurikens
now they ricochette off normal hits
but can clear 1 heat on a crit
idk
thoughts?
who knows
i think shurken are just too much
yeah im removing the on crit but
idk we will see
gonna give it a damage?
nah
this just looks cleaner
yay!!!
Hey, just wanted to bring this to y'all's attention that the Sluagh LL1 weapon Rend Nexus has a typo in its ON CRITICAL HIT line. It says "the next against against you has +2 Difficulty." Sorry for any inconvenience.
No problem.
Congrats Bel
She's the GOAT in more ways than one
:(
Yeah but that’s still gnarly and should be celebrated
Aye
YOOO just seeing this homebrew for the first time, it rules!!! I wanna try the sluagh so bad. The m/k2 is also an extremely well done gms frame, i love its 1/scene trait as its gms Thing, and the core active is fun too
A question re: myconid, how long do the slow and impair from its core active last? Is it just a burst 2 slow/impair aura basically, or a one time scenelong application, or something else?
Also, are the new v2 mechs coming later in the pdf? Edit: or rather, the pdf hasnt been updated on itch, so its still got old stats/etc for other stuff too thats different than the lcp, so checking if thats intentional/known or not
Burst 2 aura that goes away id they leave it
PDF update pretty soon
Today or tomorrow
Hell yeah
pdf just updated
and uploaded
just check analytics, we have surpased our previous pead of 980 and are sitting at 1400 current daily views!
question regarding the hazard's trait: does it give a weapon reliable if it doesnt have any, or does it only increase existing reliable values?
increase and give
greenwash my beloved
any favorites?
im always a big fan of defender/support stuff and the sluagh's overshield and adjacency shenanigans are really fun. like the morrigan-class nhp is just a really solid system that works for a ton of frames let alone the sluagh itself
and the subutai too! i never thought id be interested in anything barbarossa adjacent but you did a great job of giving it an alt frame that still feels like its related to the barbarossa while being enjoyable for a playstyle other than "sit still and shoot big guns"
defenders have some of the most interesting design space and its a shame to see a lot of it just being boiled down to soft/hard cover
The koremasa is really neat but I agree that the shurikens are in a weird spot
The damage being any higher makes the multi attack two strong
Same with the heat
abandoning the crit gimick i think really helped them out
i realized id rather have the ricochette on normal hit and just toss the accuracy
it was cluttery
The accuracy being a frame trait also makes the sickle feel even better
i think that got removed for now
frame is already a touch pushed
might reimpliment it later on
40 downloads away from 1000 in a day
Does the gloire function with grappling hooks or something?
What does it use to yoink people
The yoinker
the yoinker sploinker
God rereading the black mountain stats now cu, of the discussion a few days ago
too busted?
An end to all things having no limit to use
But also dropping the heat cap would make it too week
As would making it a reaction or limiting it too hard
Yeah, 2 maybe?
Having to cherry pick which allies to do it for could be helpful
2/round reaction?
That way it's also once per allies turn
Rest of the frame feels pretty balanced
2/round as a reaction, whenever an allied character with OVERSHIELD you granted makes a successful attack roll against a hostile character within sensors and line of sight, you may take 1 heat to have them deal +3 bonus damage.
type shit
Hell yeah
The multiple times in a turn, multiple allies, etc is a lot
Increasing the heat cost or lowering the heat cap would make it far less useful
Could I deploy two turret drones and get similar effect?
you can move
and bonus damage gets around armor
no limited
no chance for them to be destroyed
no action cost on deploying
Which LL?
i mean2
Because its bonus damage, would it apply to second-slot aux weapons or nah
no
Figured
And it’d be too powerful if you’d take out “granted by you” from the overshield, right?
Yeah
But its on the emperor license
Which is where 90% of the overshield shit comes from, outside of slaugh
Yeah there is Saladin though
Sal gives OC?
@rocky hawk would you ever make a Lich alt?
Iirc, ye
fuck no
id rather eat bricks
Scared I’d use it?
the liscence is not condusive to my type of design
You usually have very tangible buffs and debuffs, yeah
I have noticed a pretty clear consistent through line to your license designs and frame alts, its really cool
i do have a type
Occupying a grey area between the blunt, very straightforward design, and the really obtuse woo-woo shit
All your designs are crunchy
i havent the heart for woo woo
Black Witch hasn’t gotten an alt yet, has it?
already has one
Orchis
Right
Orchis is weeeeiiiird
I like the salamander from enhanced combat
I’ve yet to see a Lich alt
My roommate and I were talking about the sixth voice lcp last night actually
Oh wait a fucking sec you can make a Lich into a defender
They mostly just engage with lancer by taking my laptop, going through the stuff I've downloaded, then going on their own laptop and brewing up weird builds
Why do they not have comp con on their laptop
No i just have nine billion things downloaded because I like looking at neat toys ill never play with
They mostly like the stuff from sixth voice and the newcomers, other than the official stuff
newcomers..
pishly fan
True!!!!
When the koremasa art came out they got so excited they punched me in the arm
You get the no ice in Minnesota pack on itch.io? That’d be a lot of stuff (like 1400 something projects)
i owned lancer from the blm pack they did and i never realized it
Also in their stoned fuge last night they said Bela should make a melee frame license that's a melee equivalent to the Pegasus
With a weird paracausal mimic-gun thats a pointy stick
Roll d10, the weapon has that damage and has half that threat
THATS RAD
can throw it, backswing, duelist
Counts as aux = throwable with hunter
Counts as heavy = backswing
YES
Yes yes yes
Pegasus feels more woo woo than lich
I’ll just have to make a Lich alt myself
Defender. Or rather two defenders. Core didymos and then focus on stealing everyones statuses to inflict them on the enemy (one at a time)
But that ain’t balanced
Sorry im still caught up on the mimic blade
I'm picturing a frame that looks like the prototype eva units, like Pegasus but like
Sharp
Was printed as a literal multitool but ra touched it weird style
Call it Troll
OH THATS RAD
Eh
I was gonna say ogre but troll could imply some Balor style regeneration/defense
Maybe it can regenerate a destroyed weapon
Melee mimic feels like a redo of normal mimic
Like troll limb regeneration
well it wouldnt be random
Alright so ignore a structure check. You know how much pilots are gonna overcharge the mech then?
Hmmm
You text like you speak. And a gun that’s is(n’t) is easier than a mech that is(n’t)
i speak like i do a lot of things
But it’s night
Anyway, found a way to repurpose lich
and i cant see in the dark
And that’s scary
Every time you inflict a status on someone you can pull or push someone by 3
Fuck im still stuck on this
people do that anyway lmao
Congrats. Exposed becomes a worry of the past for a while. Ignoring a structure check while running around with the unknowable shank of the void
Great fun
Have a small post-it whenever you pilot it “just cause I ignore the armament destruction doesn’t mean I ignore the structure check”
God I have two conflicting ideas
Regenerating weapon mount and separately forcing a structure test to destroy a weapon once per scene
I do think a weird mimic melee should be an integrated weapon for the frame and then only give it one or two mounts
Then you get a weapon as a sacrificial lamb to ignore the structure. Or if you regen a weapon mount then where is the danger of structure?
To kinda parallel the ushabti omni-toucher
Yeah like I said they are conflicting concepts that are way too strong in tandem
Even alone they sound a bit busted
Combos with Lycan too
Oh god
:]
I forgot about the spike puppy
Lycan is melee Pegasus
Lycan is atomic baby until you hit its homie then lycan is the hell vortex
See I guess in my head lycan feels like it explicitly occupies a defender slot, at least partially, and a melee mimic peggysus is a striker to the very end
Yeahh, the striker part is evil pointy pocket sand
3d6+4
Idk my one player has gone lycan since LL2 and I can think of one time in the last three sessions they've popped it
Look them in the eyes and tell them to use it because holy fuck
I dont have their current build saved but its a weird manty-saladin-white witch defender
Yeah that means you just shoot them with AP
And then having the lightning generator to start slinging 4ap when they feel froggy
lycan my behated,
Thats been the plan, that and punishing them for overusing lightning generator and hardlight barrier with witches
superheavy moment
I know what I’m playing next
Sniper. Just sniper
So you really won’t consider a Lich alt?
See this player would be the exact type to abuse the melee mimic fuckery that was discussed above
Exactly
not looking into more alt frames just yet
Aight
So maybe I should pray Bela DOESNT get any ideas
:] we ain’t Bel now are we
True dat
Yes exactly
One of my coworkers saw me looking at the koremasa art and when I explained the core gameplay loop for it, that is what sold them on starting to play lancer
So like
The sauce is there
The sauce, as you call it, comes from love and hate of the game
hate is a powerful motivator
Eh. Nah. Hate is finite.
But loving the game and the world it inhabits is necessary to keep momentum
Something pissing you off enough to do something is a good push, I mean. Especially with game design
WAIT HOLY SHIT
Has there always been a ll0 mech in sixth voice?????
I've been bamboozled
Which one
MK/2
Maybe, who’s to say
Oh, ta
Miss me with that
Also am I crazy or can purple thorn just load up on blink bolts and trigger gunslinger and rainmaker like insanely quickly
Gunslinger potentially charging in one or two turns, stormbringer just being an occasional treat for smacking people in the head enough times
Woah! Just checking out this cool hb for the first time, I absolutely Love the Vauban!
Wait shit the server profile didn't update
Bit failed
Woah! Just checking out this cool hb for the first time, I absolutely Love the Vauban!
Woagh the art genius themself
to be fair lycan has just about the only good Sheavy in the game
it is VERY good lol
but let the Sheavy fans have something
I will say, Lich alts don't need to be weird - people focus a lot on the Frame and its fluff, but the Lich license is just... solid support tools that happen to be Tech. Didymos is really the outlier. When I did my Lich alt, it ended up being a tanky grunt-type support mech. It's very easy to turn the fluff into something more Kidd-adjacent, if that's where the issue lies.
(Of course, if the issue is that the license mechanics don't speak to your design philosophies... very fair, haha. I have frames like that.)
Melee Pegasus is... one of the alts that people like to do a lot, but it ends up hitting a few stumbling blocks. Mainly that pretty much the entire license has a ton of budget going towards long range stuff - long range guns, seeking doesn't matter if you're melee, Eye of Horus is a lot less helpful for a melee frame, melee autoguns are a lot harder to make sure you get use out of them every turn...
Pegasus is actually one of the liscences i purposely didn't work with,I like giving existing ideas more breadth and the tools just werent very interesting to me
Not as 3d as gorgon
Or goblin
But that's personal preference
Yeah, Peggy is a hard license to alt. It's just... incredibly solid at what it does, but that composition makes it hard to do something different with it.
Exactly
No extra sub themes to expand on
Like tortuga
That was an easy liscence to expand on
(Funnily enough, I've had the same problem with Gorgon - I find it really hard to come up with something that's as useful to the license as "2 reactions per turn", even discounting the other Gorgon stuff.)
Gorgon too synergistic, pls nerf. 😔
Lmao fucking real
This is reminding me though, I don't think I got a chance to read through all your stuff
I gotta do that
I don't blame anyone for not - there's rather a lot of it, haha.
(Also there's the constant war between "hey, I want to look at neat stuff" and "oh no, if I see something neat then I feel like I can't do anything similar to that" when it comes to homebrew.)
Realized why I havent read it
Gonna buy it tomorrow and give it a read
Love the inclusion of NPCs, those are always a real pain
I'm actually a freak who doesn't run games with much homebrew
Even my own, I have like 1 player who uses it in my main game
Love reading it though
It's a way different design philosophy than PCs. You can get a lot more focused on one gimmick, but you have to make sure that it's a playable gimmick. I definitely am not currently entirely rewriting one of my NPCs because it's ended up too one note and situational.
It's so easy to make things good and boring or bad and complex
Better than busted and complex and bad and boring I supose
I'm lucky that I have players who like stress-testing my homebrew, haha. It's very useful at finding busted combos.
All my playtests are with an entirely seperate groups of people and randoms from here
That group is fairly new to lancer so
I've definitely learned that erring too strong tends to be easier to fix than being too weak. You get a lot more actionable feedback that way - far easier to point to "this specific trait was doing too much" or whatnot, compared to "...it didn't really feel like it was doing enough?"
Yeah, very understandable
I always try to make things balanced but it's so easy to make crazy busted things
Ive always felt like hazard is on the weaker side but I've had people say it was nuts
Someone commented that basically every frame was overtorqued other than fitz
I can't tell how much is actual design errors vs personal preference
But I always feel like I gotta tweek things if someone complains
Not sure if you've dealt with that
There's definitely the innate feeling of "oh no, there's a complaint, I must be doing something wrong." But, things always need to be taken in context.
Is this feedback from actual play testing? What was the situation? Or is this just theorycrafting? And so on. Rarely can you ever make everyone happy.
Plus, sometimes you're just going to run into people with different design philosophies. You do start to get a feel for when you can put your foot down and go "thank you for your feedback, but I don't plan on changing this."
Yeah Im AWFUL at seeing negative opinions
Critique is fine but
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone on that front
Especially from one of the big names lmao
The fires of #homebrew-design can burn hot, and you can be told things are both undertuned and overtuned at the same time. A lot of game design comes down to taking in what people are saying, and feeling out the why instead.
"Why are people saying this is too good? Is it overshadowing the signature trait of something in core? Is there a combo that's too good? What makes this bad? Have I put too much budget into something situational?"
Really, the biggest lesson is just that sometimes people are wrong, haha. It's always worth hearing feedback, but you don't have to action everything.
...it always feels weird to be called that, because I always feel like I just have my little niche in the shadows of greater designers, haha.
I mean, you have a full on field guide, thats worth money and
Has a lot of fully fleshed out content
Id be honored to get your thoughts on stuff
Not sure how much insight I can have on iridia that you haven't already had though
Literally everyone here knows you
I'll be honest: my Game Design Acumen™ is almost entirely "is this objectively better/worse than X or Y core thing?" And then a lot of fiddling around and bashing my head against the wall in playtesting, haha.
Mood
I struggle to evaluate certain things, emperor for example is one of the most busted frames ever in my opinion and when I made an alt for it
I was like, ok , this can be kind of nuts because it will still always be worse
And some people agree and some think it's nutso busted
(plus some core frames are super barebones and weak)
I am incredibly conservative in my game design ethos - I mostly just poke at what's there with a stick and shift a few things around. Anything in my stuff that's more than that has gone thorough a lot of trial and error. 😛
Ah, one of the big sticking points of game design - what is the person's view of the "standard" Lancer power level. Are they comparing things towards casually played Napoleons and Lancasters? Or the Fully Optimized Smartgun Tokugawas?
Ive had people give feedback that seems entirely irrelevant of homebrew
Like, someone used your one frame and the whole team cleared my encounter in 1 round
Yeah, sometimes you have to be able to parse out if the feedback's actually homebrew relevant, or if it's just... because of other factors.
Idk, maybe BM is too good at snowballing? Maybe your encounter sucked, maybe your players high rolled, maybe the ultra had a heart attack
Idk
It's comforting to know it's a common experience
Oh, very much so. It's the eternal joke in game design, especially in video games: "players don't know what they want (and also you typically have to read between the lines for the real feedback)."
Like, I remember watching a game design video where the solution to "this gun in this shooter doesn't feel like it's strong enough" was, IIRC, just to make the gun louder. There was nothing wrong with the numbers, it was just the feel of things.
YOU HAVE TO WRITE IN ALL CAPS!
Sounds reasonable to me!
(Note: Do not actually listen to my advice. Including this one.)
Too late, AAAAA has been a core design philosophy from frame 2
I really do appreciate the tips though
Not sure how much more balancing is left overall but
Probably a lot
I mean, sometimes you just need to be able to give yourself permission to say "yes, this is where I'm stopping," haha.
(Ignore that I'm a terrible example of that, and keep pushing small updates every 6-12 months as problems trickle in.)
Every 6-12 MONTHS
I do updates every couple days...
I mean it's typically just wording but whatever
Oh, I feel that. That's why I specifically aimed for a long rim sized project for my 2nd one. And took it slowly. Because burnout is always something to be cautious of.
Yeah, but yours is still in active development and stuff, right? That's reasonable. Mine is effectively finished, so I just keep a notepad of non-critical updates that might be nice to have, and then if I have enough (and find the time), I'll get an update going.
...admittedly, a lot of this is because I don't like having to fight with my layout program, and get it all onto itch, haha. I miss when Iridia was small enough to fit in a google doc that I could PDF.
I gave up on Google docs
It's such a pain
And sort of? It's active as in, i feel like it always needs more balancing
But new content is tenuous
I mean, that's reasonable. Playtesting is still a valid part of development.
Playtesting hell
If only each one didn't take up the whole fucking day
6-7 hour commitments
For my testing, I ended up running a campaign (and specifically told my players "hey, please take some of this stuff if you want to play, thanks"), and that was 4 hours weekly. Which feels a lot more manageable than trying to keep focused for 6+ hours, geez.
Don't have a regular slot open for a campaign alas ( job and college) but that is a good idea for when I do
I'll keep it in mind
Yeeeah, that's definitely the drawback, in that you need a regular timeslot.
Campaign balance is honestly more valuable too because people start realizing how limiting limited really is
Limited 4 seems like a lot until you get 1 use per combat in one mission
Rep cap starts mattering
Survivability long term
Also it lets you see how stuff reacts to different types of scenarios - as well as just having more data points.
Fragile mechs get worse and all thst
Exactly
Also, having missions instead of oneshots made it feel more reasonable to not have everyone with homebrew, because there were going to be five more to test things out with. So you could get some testing in with different core-to-homebrew squad compositions. (I did let everyone full respec after each mission.)
All of these points are so tempting
But it would kill me I fear
One day
One day I'll get the chance
Yeah, knowing your limits is also important. No sense in burning yourself out and not getting any data, haha.
Fair
I appreciate the tips
I do gotta go to sleep now but I'll give iridia a look tomorrow
Heard nothing but good things about it
Well, glad that sharing my experiences could help out any, haha.
And no rush in checking things out. I know it's beefy. 😅
(Always happy to hear any thoughts on it in the Iridia thread, though!)
I like the dd288 🙁
i love me a tcb
yay!
Tsym preach
Usually I think that
This is unprofessional advice (MINE NOT YOURS)
but think of power level in terms of: "what creates the best player experience"
like what will make them have fun thinking of the 10000 ways to use fmj
or get crazy with so many different limited systems setups on gilgamesh
the point of power is to give you a point to play the frame
I mean TCB is alright
but like you get maybe +3 or 4 average barrage damage at best when compared to barraging with a heavy + main or main/aux flex bonus d6, and you lose the ability to skirmish entirely, so if things dont go your way (like you have to boost), you just cant do your damage
Shock claws, however, are 4d6+6 and functionally 5d6+6 because of the chain lightning
and 5d6+6 is quite a lot!
Kinetic hammer + tac melee barrage is also 3d6+4, you lose AP, you lose a threat, but you gain the ability to skirmish and do the majority of your damage
and with the way that bonus damage stacks on your first attack, Sheavies are just hard to justify
I think the record in my last campaign for a go loud turn was 3 kills
he almost had 4 but just shy by a few HP
non-grunts ofc
I have kind of a dumb question,
Entrap
As a free action, choose a character within sensors and line of sight. They must make a systems save or only be able to draw line of sight to adjacent spaces. Targets affected this way always consider you within range and line of sight.
so they consider you within range, but do they consider you within threat?
yep
though i cant imagine you wanna be putting it on very many melee frames
most of them did lmao
iirc it was one of the stronger ones when I last checked
its always going to be good just from the sheer options you have
even if most of them arent crazy powerful
I mean ronin is the only one, to prevent instinct mode with threat 3
allow the ally with threat 2 melees to kill the ronin without fear of being structured instantly from instinct mode
btw teammate will be playing purple thorn today, I will update you on how that goes
well I remember when I last checked thinking the options were absurd lol
ye
I still think being able to to tech attacks that dont count as attacks and dont roll to hit is a bit uh
I mean it's interesting for sure
its the best one
but like orator is in the game
it is
it does allow you to also break duplicate action restrictions
as is, you cannot do the same invade on two different guys without an OC
this allows you to, because you're taking the scan action, and that can be duplicated using a full tech
yeah but heat cap 5 isnt that bad
if you do it twice your probably gonna stress
and you can honestly run autocooler pretty comfortably lol as a sensors 20
well not if you build engi
and your other stats are so bad, if you get engineering they jump you
6 evasion fragile, 8 hp is rough
well, they can sure try to jump you, but they are jammed, demoralized, puppet systems away, save 12 false idol
thats just normal goblin things
you arent making an attack
no but this is worse because you arent making an attack, so it opens up survivability options that dont work on people who attack
you do have a whole other action you are losing
wdym
if you are commiting to not attacking you either have to eat 4 heat on top of whatever else you are doing
or do something else with your other quick
best option is false idol
I think this allows you to be hidden permanently? I dont fully know if scan counts as a hostile action tbf
i would say that applying the effects of an invade counts as hostile
"At the end of your turn, if you didn’t take any actions that affected a hostile character during that turn other than Scan" i think implies it does
implies scan counts as an action that effects hostile characters
yeah but hostile actions and actions that affect hostile characters arent the same
I can use a tech action on a hostile that benefits them
i think its gm discression
lancer doesnt provide a real baseline for whats "hostile"
i cant really fix that
yes "hostile action" is iffy at best
some gms with be hard ass with it, some will be gaslit by their players
nothing you can do
IMO the best way to do it is to be as close as possible to rules as written
I, personally as GM, would say that you can hide while doing this
but I getchu
(this is why I thoroughly ignore tom's word on blink charges lol)
whats he said about them?
does it not?
ive always seen it effect all characters in the zone
but he said its supposed to be all characters?
weird
yes
personally I think all people is utter chaos lol
and the mine on that system is so good
It doesnt need that major buff
do you remember much of my LCP since you read it? I wanted to ask if there was anything you thought stood out as an oversight or broken or smth
yeah i still got it
lots has been changed since launch, mostly the systems have been reworked to be not stupid
lots of the license systems on launch were kind not usable, like earthsplitter anchors
i remember most things being fine, just weird syntax on em
oh ok? I'd be glad to see an example
the whole token thing on the jackhammer
that was before I realized heat was, in fact, not damage
is it unclear or just weird
lol
theres no term for overcharge level, its not an interactable stat
goes weird with that one ha core bonus
yeah no that is fair, I have been looking at re-working that system for a while
I haven't been urgent about it because it truly isn't that good lol
it's kinda dead space in the license
yeah
arc dagger is seeing a rework too, that weapon was doing too much and too little at the same time
what is that on?
lol ok fair
i dont even wanna think about this
YUP
THAT SHIT GOT REWORKED LOL
like 2 months ago
this is it now
I think you might have an old plato version?
i hvae the 1.0
It does still do that
oh god yeah lol the systems of 1.0 were rough looking back
yes, that has been fixed lol
For the leoleth, what is the use case for zip engine? Most movement that ive seen tends to be normal, boost, or teleportation systems. Is that intended to be taken with other licenses?
just use this one lol
hunter and skirmisher is the biggest use case
as an HA heavy mounter, it loves to be able to OC double skirmish, and with the trait that allows it to skirmish AGAIN, it really likes skirmisher and zip engine makes that better
skirmisher, hunter are main ones, but it has a bunch of weird other interactions
pankrati
nelson movement
subutai jugernaut
its actually not that good on nelson because you just ping yourself each time
God teleporting nelson
yes lol
and when you are doing it 4 times a turn it hurts
that is what I mean by dubious
ah lmao
Yeah but just for the pure cartoony goof of it
Zip type engine is honestly bordering on too strong IMO lol
i wouldnt say that either
1 damage is not much and there are lots of way to make that movement big and just basically be mourning cloak active'd
Its strong, it just has no usage with the systems of the leoleth. It works with talents and outside licenses for sure
the main benefits of treating mvoement like telportation is ignoring reactions
which many of the things that trigger it already do
licenses sytems not interacting with other license systems is pretty typical
the only time they do is if they interact with the mech, and agree on the way they do it
but none of manticore's license really interacts with lightning gen
im currious what you are thinking its busted with
I think it is a little too good with skirmisher, for the sole sake of being universally immune to overwatch at the cost of 2 SP and 1 damage
the secret is that its kind of lowkey dogshit
situational weird dogshit is my favorite
it allows you to climb VERY effectively
it does!
like if there's a big wall teleporting is busted as a whole
well no because flight you have to take the movement to go over it
well
a lot less than climbing
cant say ive seen many climbing centric maps though
it can allow you to start your turn out of someone's LOS, full damage barrage, OC skirmish, 1 AP, now you cant see me again
to be fair tho, they're probably just dead
any well built striker doing a barrage and an OC skirmish is doing minimum 2 structures
plus with skirmisher you can almost always get the same benefit
wel
no, not the LOS breaking thing
you can get to cover probably but you cant break LOS almost ever
oh yes
I mean just with the skirmisher alone, in case you needed that movement to get to the enemy, or whatever other purpose
but ye I am silly I think it's not OP
the moral of the story is that skirmisher is crazy good
truth nuke
the moralest of the story is that OC skirmisher heavy spam is just optimal and nothing actually competes
and stort is nuts
I had a gandiva missile lycan in the campaign I GM'd last
heavy gunner, oc build, the whole thing
I am now of the opinion gandiva missiles are genuinely optimal on lycan
good heavy CQB's are very very hard to find
also encounter deisgn is a huge part of balance and most people just make kille verything missions
lol yeah true, but even with objectives, killing the guy is not a bad choice
and also OC heavy skirmish builds have a spare quick on their turn to play the objective
or just use heavy gunner like everyone else
ive had a couple games wehre the objective was complex enough that just killing things wasnt gonna work
killing was still needed but
it made controllers feel way more impactful
the outrun sitrep from maximum threat is pretty good at that, I've run it a few times
WOAH
controllers dont feel impactful?
controllers are so fucking broken lol
stuncrown is ending turns in a burst 3 lol
heavy gunner is a quick action to turn off 2 melees
more so than strikers
IMO at least the only way to make a team of only strikers and no controllers work is just amber phantom active looping and wiping the map before anyone goes
basically every mech is broken in some way
truly a thing that is in the game
i have never seen a group that wanted to have multipul of the same frame
same, no one does, but the game cracks if you do lol
and to be fair, the vast majority of mechs are throwing to have more than one of
we do not want 2 calibans
amber phantom active is the exception tho
if you ever have any major feedback tho, please lmk
wording errors plague me more than others to be fair, so if you spot them I can fix them
ill let you know
what did you think about the quality as a whole?
same goes for you too
the 1.0 was definitely rough around the edges
i liked the ideas a lot, many of the concepts were very unique
some systems are rather stupid, and not in the strong or fun way, but they either have been or are being reworked
expanded on some new areas
i think that can be good and bad based on how well they are executed but they felt very careful
that is very good to hear
I think the mechs are absolutely the strong suite of it
the licenses are hit or miss but we gettin there
I am very keen on not making something that doesnt truly add anything unique to the game, and is just something I think is cool
I make a lot of effort to ensure that sartre is just completely different to tortuga as an overwatching CQB attacker, or that cassin is just completely different to sunzi as a source of allied speed
dw lol if I see some silly shit I will let you know
one of my buddies is running a campaign and he is allowing sixth voice, so anything that is broken will be spotted and abused on sight
like black mountain lol
how do you feel about current state black mountain
with the uh
2/round limit
still busted?
havent played it with the changes, I'm moving to a cassin cuz it's better for our new team comp, but it all sounded liek very good changes
it's still a busted trait yeah but busted traits are ok
I think it is massively more reasonable
I think it's busted in the same way that like, lock/kill subsystem is busted
that shit crazy, but like it isnt breaking the game or outright replacing someone else's existence
cough cough empakaii
normal emperor is very strong
but it doesnt replace anyone
which is the true issue of strength. If it's cracked but isnt replacing anything, it's just a new avenue of power that is really good, that's much better than making someone/something obsolete by being better than them at their own job
which is what black mountain was before IMO
but ye I think it's way way more reasonable now
still a fierce competitor to emperor because it doesnt have to attack to do its thing, which allows it to threaten orator, field analyst, etc.
there is a possibility that we use a vauban, we currently have an iskander, and if the iskander player spots something silly about that mech we will try it
vauban is cracked beyond plausibility btw
if you could pin a word to the vauban as a calling card
its
Absolute
yeah it does seem a little strong
does it?
I cant fully tell the rammifications of the passive until I have played it
I dont think it's OP?
its not overpowered, its simply amazing
gravity well is not super impressive or anything, sap is great, solfotaric breach is really good
Honestly my main concern is that it's a heavy mounter with a functional bonus d6
like it's not even the CC that makes me think it's too strong lol
it's just that you can very easily make it into a heavy mounter with a bonus d6 as an HA mech so you can OC loop the heavy and use your spare quick to put people in air jail or create difficult terrain
which is definitely approaching too much
playing the mech in the way it is absolutely not intended to be played, I think is optimal and potentially where it is too strong lol
i cant remove the heavy, so is breach just too good? or is crazy optimizing not something to balance around
well to be fair, giving heavy mounters bonus d6's is not entirely unheard of, caliban gets one
honestly, maybe find a hit to the base stats
if you dont want it to be used as a DPSer then you would have to change this tho lol
cuz rn it is a striker controller IMO
honestly just giving it that typing is a good idea
sensors to 8 and then a negative tech is a reasonable thing to do, my only hold up on that is now we're just giving it caliban's weakness
so now we're a striker controller with a heavy mount and a bonus d6 with caliban's weakness
i dont think many people are gonna be comparing the two directly
lol I mean fair
cause vauban actually CARES about sensor range
I have a very strange and excessive fear of getting even remotely close to mechs that already exist in the game
yeah if you want to force it to be up close to the frontline, sensor hit is fair
ill give it a -1 tech but thats rarely gonna come up
and honestly, I would consider making it speed 3 and thinking of a trait that makes it fast in difficult terrain
it ignores difficult terrain, and counts as speed 6 in it or smth idk
i actually really wanted to have it not ignore difficult terrain
ok fair
to punish just spamming mastication
reasonable
it does cost 1 sp to solve this problem
to be fair lol
but all your allies too
and a liscence level
oh yeah well, making it ignoree difficult terrain doesnt make its allies not
true
but ye if that was the vision then dont change that
I did have an idea for a mech that flips difficult terrain, and uses it as soft cover that it can hide in, and counts as speed 6 in it, but someone had already made that, the IPS-N Bayou
oh i think ive seen that one
it was cool
By complete coincidence I was checking in on the itch page only to see that it just got updated. Super exciting! Sixth Voice is some of the only true homebrew content we use at our table so I really can't stress how pumped I am to get more of it.
Is there a complete list of changes for V2 I can read anywhere by chance? I'd like to see the minutia of what's changed.
almost every frame, no change log alas, too much
if you have specific frames you care about though i can probalby give a run donw
All good, I understand. I can manage I'm sure.
Very sad to see the Gloire lose its free ram, though apparently that has been the case for a while!! 😭
i dont think i even vaugly understand how to use apostrophes
It is referring to all Nagas, collectively, obviously
You love to see it.
Does the gloire have to move the full 5 spaces with rapid rush down or can it stop sooner when it hits a wall or target
I do wish there was some way to get other smart melee weapons for the Naga
Most other smart weapons are ranged
It's only other option is the nanowhip on balor - which is ALSO heavy
Like all of its abilities synergize with ranged smart weapons too so it's not that big a deal
But like it's thematic design and vision very much wants it to be using those smart melee weapons
Thats what i just said!
balor 2
OH NANOCOMPOSITE
man I don't know why my brain is so bad with like short hands and acronyms sorry that's on me
I completely forgot about nano composite
Never mind I take everything back Naga loves Balor
Balor and Naga should makeout, Yuri style
they totally should
ill get yellow right on that
@forest trail have we considered the mech making out?
Toxic yuri
He/Him or He/She butch lesbian
X
She/It/They genderqueer lesbian
Hit send
Do you see the vision
like 70% of the mechs are yuri bait
Myconid is their roommate
I have long believed that the slaugh and leoleth are dating
