hai
HEAS
marines
its in the stryker cav regiment
insanity
You can mount 3 TOWs on it iirc :D
At least 2-
It is very stupid and like
Honestly dies to stiff breeze so never does very much
backline security tool at best
Pretty much
Speaking of backline, uhh
Stealth helicopters are a thing in SOF
They're quite spooky
yeap
do yall wanna do a pve
yeah sure
i like the stryker group
Troopers are a good representation of a standard american infantry squad
so to be clear, was that right now or later?
cause I was running with the implication that it was basically immediately
nono you're all good
I should've been clearler
as should I
(also I'd like to get a timeframe cause I gotta go in a couple hours)
I'll be there in a few I suppose
okey
@runic sandal hop in
I have concluded that I may have played that deck a bit wrong..
Was very excited to use Deltas and Raiders but really didn't use much else .-.
Feels very fragile and punchy, basically no staying power beyond the reserve marines and tanks I brought
But I think it has immense potential for scalpeling things?
Extremely offense oriented overall, has to be able to get into its fights fast
And very much can, sucks if they get drawn out though
During that mission, I think I should've pushed the city harder with all my infantry to clear the buildings quick, they definitely could've done it
Till has cut their losses in half and achieved better K/D :D
Moving to shooty position
I think i'm starting to get the hang of this game
currently working through the single player campaign and shit started rough
Oh yea
@olive temple you should probably be in here-
MOVING TO SHOOTY POSITION!!!!
Hmm
There seem to be a lot of different philosophies when it comes to deck construction-
Many are saying they want one that can do a little bit of everything, but some want to do one thing and have capability to self-enable the strategy
So
What's your philosophy when you're building a deck?
Just curious-
I'd suppose it depends on the map, team comp and capabilites of allies
dont field things i dont use
as much as i think they provide coverage, they dont need to be in a deck if i never decide theyre worth bringing over something else for the points
like, machine gun teams, for example
speaking of...
anyone wanna play?
:)
everything is fine dont look at the 1000 point B2 spirit
@here
anyone wanna pway?
I would but I've been conscripted into Mausritter today haha
So I'd have to leave like halfway through-
building a deck depends heavily on the specialisations you choose
though Im coming at this from the same angle as deckmaking in WGRD where your nation(coalition) heavily influences your deckmaking
overall I'd say for PVP you need your deck to cover all your bases, so taking specialisations that lack any kind of armored stayingpower/spearhead isn't advised
while playing against the AI is a lot more free
though in stacked 5v5 matches having a player, play the backline as it were, hard focusing on arty and airnet covereage can be advantageous
I want to play more today
apollocheese I've got lancer rn
For how long
from this point, probably 3 hours if not more
scrreeee
@runic sandal my ritting has ceased mousing, do you still want a lil gaming?
sure
Good heavens
Oh yeah
Medium and above skirmish AI appears to have resource cheats :b
Like
The "I spawn 6 T-14 chassis on game start" kind of resources
Yeah it seems the AI cheats a lot in skirmish
Also I really do wish that units continued to fire on enemy locations when losing sight of them, just for a few seconds
Because the AI does the wargame thing of dancing in and out of line of sight
@stoic portal wanna play
May I join in ~10 minutes? (will wait for match to finish)
i think Troopers are my favorite american infantry
the javelin is such a difference maker
not just saying that because i had to carry one
i will say that TOW-2s are underpowered
a munition rated quite literally "everything" struggles to one-shot medium tanks
Also why does Russian retrofitted hardware get to ripple fire ATGMs but nothing in the US side does despite ripple firing being a US doctrine
It is weird :/
Did they conclude US would be too OP if they gave them that stuff?
...in which case it's strange to have in the game in any capacity
I mean
hellfiers don't have datalink
nor do stingers
lots of things are missing their actual capabilites and tbf a lot of russian is missing its likely fictional capabilities
The problem I have is Russia HAVING stuff that the US has , but the US doesn't
Closest thing I've found is the CAAT Dragons, but they accomplish tandem missile by simply having 2 launchers
Also
@here anyone wanna maybe play?
I got an hour or so to kill and a new deck to try out-
an hour is a short time for this game
depends on the gamemode
but fair
we swear we wrote an hour and a half, but we didn't :(
Srraaawwww
Would friends like to play some Broken Arrow today?
Bit late to this but it seems to be more an issue of how to balance TOWS/ATGMS vs tanks in the game APS is far too strong atm for single TOW teams to do much of anything so their primary role is to snipe non aps protected russian vics eg BMPs, BMPTs and BTRS.
perhaps
im trying to get amko to play rn
if people want to play @ me and ill run some
Main problem is they give AT weapons a "realistic" amount of missiles, but then have tanks and IFVs require multiple direct hits (the first ones of which are going to be fed to the faultless APS) to kill
yeah its kinda the way it goes unfortunately
When in reality APS is not 100% reliable and a tank that gets hit with a TOW or Javelin is knocked out
its not trying to be realistic i think is also a good starting point
Having to spend a second missile out of the four a team has just to finish off a tank is silly
If they're gonna let heavy vehicles have an unrealistic amount of survivability for the sake of gameplay
They need to share the unrealistic potion equitably
And let missile teams carry more than 4 missiles
That would be pretty cool :3
I am going to be one shmecond
We will be around once you're there!
hi
:0
One sec!
@gentle yew would you like to join our stack to have 5?
we are attempting PVP
thanks, good hunting in pvp
:3
i dont like PVP
We are so far not able to confidently form an opinion
stone based SEAD
Mmm yummy AD
this is what happens when you don't shoot and scoot
like yeah it's annoying to scoot your airnet
but if youre playing against people that like, can actually infer and then strike against it, instead of AI that doesn't do that, you need to scoot
displacing after every engagement is just good habits
or queuing a move fast command after an arty barrage with whatever arty system it is
yeah but doing it manually adds a lil spice when you forget and then all your stuff dies
yeah which is why you queue the command, then again I have a bit of an advantage being into WGRD before BA came out, a lot of it does carry over, the only thing BA is missing is ranges when you check sightlines
silenthawk, best pilot extraction craft
What is it with this game's community and hating Chinese people?
thats just a lot of communities in the similar space that BA is in, that being warsim, war and rts games, WGRD the closest thing BA has to a predecessor has the same problem (global chat essentially being live 4chan)
it's despicable to see such people, but unfortunately unless they get any kind of actual consequences its not likely to stop
Right
I'll be honest, the community is the part I hate the most about this game
Ive personally only interacted with the community on the BA discord via the deckmaking channel, so I cant say much on that.
are you talking about live matches?
Live matches and also Reddit
hm, I haven't actually checked the reddit
and I'm not exactly enthusiastic about random matchmaking pvp
I think I might've found the post you also likely saw
well multiple really
yeah... western gamers™️ moment
Yyyyep
:(
I have discovered many things, including: Light tanks are overrated, because AUTOCANNONS. Which makes me think I should bring a lot of autocannons in my assault battlegroup.
I've also found I keep being very lacking in recon, which is an ~issue~.
Recon is basically the most important section in this game without it you do kinda just die
I know. And I was good at it in Wargame.
But for some reason my ability to recon specifically in this game is failing me.
I keep getting all my recon murdered by AA but my AA doesn't ever kill their scouts.. :(
I know I'm bad at the game, I just don't know what's going wrong.
post what recon your using
4 Cav Scouts, 4 Airborne Snipers, 4 Gray Eagles.
so cav/airbourne deck right?
two seconds let me boot my game up before i start talking nonsense
The main issue is being unable to use my UAVs because they become prime AA targets. I have realised something though: I need to make AA nests.
so out of these i would be picking up the snipers, scouts in fully kitted out RV's and then guardian for vic borne lasing
oh and like 2 global hawks
The Guardian? I'm not familiar with that from the list. Also wait, this is armour-airborne, sorry.
okay that changes two things, scouts for cav scouts dont but them in bradley use one of your wheeled transports and then pick up whatever FIST platform you want
FIST as in between the LRAS, M7A2, and M981?
the SEPV2 TUA is also worth a pick up
yeah i think the M981 and LRAS are the best bang for buck
Also yeah, the Cav Scouts are mostly being used as an AMPV pick, but also they're actually kinda good in their own right?
obviously the bradley has the benefit of being well a bradly
they kinda just die
I do need the extra AMPVs though.
the downside of air and armour is that your "frontline" recon infantry is kinda non existant
Yeah, no green-BG infantry, to borrow from Red Dragon.
the FIST vics are for your flanks
snipers for deep recon
and cav scouts are volentold they are frontline
And no Global Hawks?
no no still take them
drones dying dont matter, as long as they get you spots for the deepstrikes
As much as Bradleys can get up to nonsense with their autocannon, it's LRAS time because they're just cheaper.
bradleys imho kinda blow
AMPVs with their 30mm are very funny though.
Also, for AA nests, PIVADS, Linebacker, or SLAMRAAM?
..Or Avenger?
Yep.
if i was making an AA nest which i dont recomend, this is how i would lay it out
Patriot protected by two pivads
I see basically everyone making AA nests is the thing.
its abit of a noob trap
..Is it because I'm at 350 Elo because I screwed up my first matches?
yes it works but when HARMS or cluster get through and they will get through you lose everything
Okay so, spread stuff out. Question is: How do I handle supply? I'm used to Wargame where you don't just leave supply in a place.
Mostly my helos, because I just go to them.
The issue isn't getting the supply to them unharmed, ironically. It's the supply left behind.
..I kinda thought supply dumps were always visible or at least very very visible, even if the unit wasn't.
trucks give you a lil more desecration
nope they have to be spotted same as anything else
Oh yeah, another issue.. What SPG should I bring? I have the Brutus, A6 Paladin, A7 PAladin, and Hawkeye.
sweet lord you bring alot lmao
No, as in options.
oh right haha
God, I don't bring ALL OF THEM. That's insanity!
..True.
GMLRS and ironthunders (which are upgraded A7s) are deepstrike
Interesting that you don't bring a transport plane, but then again I rarely use them.
..Helis can carry Humvees, right?
chinook can
:3
Airdrops are a hazardous endevour at the best of times
True, true.
Would you believe me if I said that was one (though the most painful) of three battlegroups?
what like decks?
what are the others
Armour-SOF generalist battlegroup, and a SOF-Cav maneuver battlegroup.
SOF CAV is generally one of the higher preforming decks
you have alot of good and not alot of bad
both
That means taking no cargo helis.
can you not afford a V22
Not with 2 Guardians and two Comanches.
Unless you mean running one of each as a hunter-killer pair?
Fab, that's all my weird and wonderful little questions and WTF is Battlegroup Anton doing?
We have:
- Motostrelki
- AGS-17s
- RPG-29s?!
- Igla-Ns
- Shturmoviki
- SSO
whats the mix
All of them.
no as in
..Oh, erm, moto-mech.
I've replaced the -29s with some Metis teams.
Really?
yeah
..Wow, it fits.
you do have access to the the TOS 1
Not in this one.
which is one of the best backstops in the game
I do in the other one.
I would recomend taking it, its kinda a must havee
..As options.
HE or Cluster Smerch?
I was bringing the Tulpan because hehe 240mm mortar. :3
I also really want to bring the 57mm Ural, but I know I shouldn't.
..I found a way.
I have the 2S38 in the other RU BG.
i so badly want the tulip to be good
Is the Giatsint any good?
Yeah I can't fit the Malka in without sacrifices, so Giatsint it is. >:3
distance dif is 300m
I'm also using The Assault Helicopter in this deck, because I remembered it has an 8-man cargo bay.
the hind?
Hind. :3
motor mech has a really weak airtab sadly
even the mi 28 they get feels like your throwing wet paper towels at tanks sometimes
Yeah, so may as well bring the Hind.
I bring both
dont really use the hind for its transports
but im sure it filled with SSO could do some work
Or 4 Engineer-Stormtroopers (I do not want to spell their Russian name right now)
The shield guys.
So back them up with a tank-hunter like a Hind?
more like RPG 29s
Fair.
your hinds are limited to at this point incredibly outdated ATGMs
Mm. Also, for the Booker, 105 or 50 mil?
105
Mmm
Have come to the conclusion that M1117s are for flanking around to someone's backline when they're not looking (for me)
yeah, the maps have massive flanks that alot of people forget because they tunnel vision on the points
SOCOM decks can really exploit that with killer egg low investment high return flank
Personally, I want to use the M117 for the opposite: Sniper go home.
wdym?
Locate sniper. Send sniper to God.
oh ngl for that use the cav scouts in a transport
cav scouts find the snipers tranport kills them
drones as well can preform the find part
UAVs (especially the Global Hawk) seem pretty good at watching your backline or flanks where they can loiter a bit more safely
I imagine they are disgusting if your opponents' AA net collapses in a given area
the SOCOM one as well is great for it
with the stealth giving you time to get the info you need before it dies
The thing that the ArmA 3 UCAV is based on?
yeah
Also I've found the Su-25T actually quite decent.
Between its ARM and the ability to deliver a nasty up-close AGM strike with the 16 Vikhrs, it can really give someone a bloody nose.
yeah what russia is really weak at is ARMs
the SU57 is kinda its only reliable platform for getting them in
IDK, 7km range is not bad for an ARM.
Like I think that's standoff against Patriots.
its not that the ARMS are weak its that A american SHORAD is kinda busted at shooting them down
and B the platforms are not dedicated like the american ones
Ah, fair.
they're usually like an hour or longer if you take your time a bit and aren't constantly moving forward and rushing, even then they can take a while if you don't wish to take casualties
so it does make sense why people are a bit preplexed that there isn't a save function
I sure was annoyed
especially because sometimes the game will just hit you with kinda random stuff that feels bad
like yes unexpected stuff should happen, but not stuff like "a manpad squad outside the playable area that'll be playable soon shooting your heli down"
Does taking casualties affect the campaign long term or is just for an additional challenge?
some missions ask you not to call in reinforcements or not to lose units for XP/completionism
though weirdly enough this screen is only shown when you fail/succeed so you can only really hunt for 100%ism if you've beaten the mission/lost
but overall in mission casualties don't cause you to lose anything on the broader campaign
as much as this looks amazing
I couldn't help but think
"damn these people didn't think to have any sort of airnet?"
like, you killed koalitisya's with that, that's the backline! what the hell
which raises more questions
why were there so many frontline units in the range of what is ostensibly a backline unit
was the heavy arty at the front?
Mmm
One really shouldn't be just leaving infantry inside capture points often huh
Definitely getting the feeling you're meant to leave things near them instead
yeah, leaving them in the point which is where people are going to blind fire arty is a bad idea
Also, don't have that many units next to each other lol
I know it's not much, but Elo 400! :3
IDK if it's a "meta" BG combo, but I've found a very interesting one IMO: Guards Marine.
poke @here
would anyone perhaps like to break arrow?
I could do some pvp
sounds lovely :3
call or nah
I put BTR-90s in my battlegroup because they pair well as long-cost transports for stuff the Barbaris doesn't need or can't be afforded for.. But I CAN'T PUT MY MAINLINE INFANTRY IN THEM AAAAA.
"It is generally accepted by the High ELO community that the US is better" -VulcanHD
Ah, I see the game is lore accurate
the US is by enlarge better
Reflections after matches:
Forward scouting is so so so good, need to figure out ways to kill large groups of similar units faster and get a better sense of what to begin the game with
And also..
Though this may be hard due to mental illness..
Try to widen the attention span to take care of my units so AA doesn't get hit by ARAD as consistently
Etc etc
I think people like hotkey radar AA so they can easily turn them off/on
yes
that is a thing that I've carried over from WGRD
any radar AA goes on the same keybind
You are punished way less than wgrd for leaving it on
Hm.. For an armour-SOF deck, I can only pack one arty, so do I bring Iron Thunders or cluster MLRS?
Well, GMLRS, not MLRS.
Iron thunders will give you the most mileage
GMLRS while being amazing are also more for shooting at targets of opportunity
in SOF you have access to so many laser designators, that having an iron thunder around on the map means you will likely be able to precision fire most things, and if not, its still and extremely accurate high damage and long range artillery
I swear that I need to practice it more, because I keep failing on my ability to actually use the Maneuver BG, like I get stuck in pitched fights, even if I'm playing a cross-map playstyle rather than holding a sector.
I mean with SOF Armored you have the ability to hold on the account of lots of your infantry being cracked, having very good emergency helos, the best tanks, decent air, okay artillery
Oh, wait, yeah, that's Adaptable I was on about. Oops.
Now I'm getting confused between my BGs, because I was using Maneuver recently.
Trying to constantly break contact can be more harmful than helpful, unless you are a 5 stack you are expected to be able to hold a flank obviously how you do it is up to you. Delaying actions can only take you so far eventually you will need to bite and hold
Problem is, the Maneuver BG is er, not got good staying power, it's very much a BG you deploy on top of another group.
What's it made up of specialisation wise
Stryker-SOF.
Oh you have alot of holding power via infantry
You can just get shelled off point's because criminal lack of counter battery but such is life
I more mean anti-tank holding power and stuff, but I suppose.
Ranger teams and troopers
Javis do make people think twice about blindly rushing armour in
Ironically I was told to take Stand-Off Rangers instead of Troopers.
Take both
nodnod.
it just depends on what you prioritise, my personal prefrence are the ranger jav teams because they also get 800m range MGs and have more jav ammo
troopers get more HP and have close range AT, but when you have access to rangers, you already get the carlgustaff team with 3 and standoff rangers, all of which will melt or at the very least scare off enemy vics
but since stryker engineers are worse at what deltaforce does, and in this case you take the javelin team, an easy way to put some stryker transports in your deck would be the trooper stingers
im ngl i do feel you are sleeping on troopers, while going near full socom infantry works they do get consumed by the meat grinder that is urban fighting and thats where the troopers shine, they are a non specialised infantry that fufill that hold and die role that socom so dearly lack
yeah, I'm not saying they don't have a place, its just in the way I tend to play, they are a bit awkward, though them having everything they could need for at least a short while before support arives is a huge plus
Ngl the pvp focus has made me lose all interest in the game
Campaign is pretty solid tbh, a lot of the side objectives (for achievements) are pretty challenging
people have already made some pretty crazy scenarios, so PvE is only getting started when it comes to custom content
and I've seen talks of overhaul mods
We lost 7-16. :(
Also yeah, I played Rock and a Hard Place with Lady Havoc yesterday, and what I honestly loved is it had cute references to World in Conflict in the story.
Like, the mention of blowing I-90? That's Mission 2 of the original game (Mission 3 if you're including the Soviet Assault missions), Reunion.
another thing I figured out that sets the stryker shorad apart from the brad, it can take both hellfires and stingers
Mhm mhm
It's pretty mean
Definitely worth putting the APS on too to deal with heli missiles
meawhile the brad shorad can tank like 3 SEAD missiles before death with BUSK3 and can tank one with BUSK1
Yeah, the SHORAD Stryker is one of the very few true 'anti-everything' units in this game
Yeah, the SHORADs have hands.
And guns
And missiles
The hellfire pick for it ain't great ngl it doesn't out range GLATGMs so you lose the trade and it's auto cannon mogs anything short of an mbt on the front
I mean, I've had more success oneshotting the Rus armored helos with the hellfires than trying to do so with a barrage of stingers
while sure it doesnt outrange the gunlaunched atgms, it doesnt really need to? its there to be good in a pinch.
augments its anti helo capabilites, while allowing better anti vic work for a vehicle that would usually be defenceless against them
better than on the Brad where it takes away it's stingers completely
Sometimes you just gotta dome a helo with an ATGM, IG.
i kinda wish you could tell missile troops to ignore the overkill mechanic
yeah, it's a bit annoying when they hold fire in fear of wasting ammo but then the missile misses
I think if you tell them to attack a target directly they ignore the overkill mechanic?
yeah and thats an annoying amount of micro especially because one misclick means theyll move, especially bad if theyre in a key position like woods or a building
I just got catastrophically bombed because my own frontline SAM didn't shoot because some far one started prosecuting the targert frist
incredible annoyance
The overkill prevention mechanic is well intended but has severe negative results
found someone who turned the campaign missions into CO-OP with the scenario editor
haven't gotten a chance to try but I assume so, 2 player campaign coop
@gloomy loom would you be up to play BA at some point?
I could for a little bit right now but I've gotta be somewhere later tonight-
