and take advantage of Clawmark seal to still let my few offensive spells be reasonbly punchy

Using Keen Milady + BFB also puts you in the place of having two options that both scale maximally on one stat, which is both good and bad

I'm pretty sure Keen Milady is justt kinda bad, sadly =(. It ironically gets out muscled by Cold for some reason

And also handily rips through enemies that rely on poise

Get the two-handed sword talisman, rock it with greatshield talisman, and just guard point through everything

Like do you equip it in the offhand

How I've been doing it is holding it in the off hand, my spellcasting catalyst in the main hand
Since your catalyst will have no skill, using L2 will make you attack with the offhand shield, while L1 blocks
The big star of the show is twohanding the shield though
Since that massively increases guard boost

Another tip- the Carian Thrusting Shield is largely better than the Dueling Shield
Its got quality scaling with C/C/D str/dex/int so you really only need to meet the int cap of 15
It has better guard stats and more or less the same damage
Including a CRAZY 76 guard boost
Also: Do not infuse them, keep them on standard scaling
You will have very slightly lower damage in exchange for crazyass guard stats

The thing to learn about elden ring is frustratingly enough, the game uses reactive not proactive defences

(Monster Hunter for comparsion is a proactive defence game)

This means you have to iframe stuff (notably, MH iframes are actually less generous by base because it's a proactive defence game)

THis is why enemies have the stupid "I am standing on a greased plate and can spin 360 degrees in defiance of physics while waiting to drop my giant weapon on you" thing

because in a proactive game, they'd be locked into the animation and so you could azvoid it b y just spacing/rpetmively dodging past them

while here if you're in range, you have to iframe it

and a lot of the attacks are designed to fuck with your ability to do so

via having very drawn out tells or similar

my arcane is bad so it doesn't scale well but the ||debuff is worth having||

Therotically, yes, in practice it's worth splashing at least a little beecause you are already investing in arcane heavily, and there's a bunch of decent spells that require very minimal faith to get (Discus, Beast Claw, various dragon breaths) and hte dragon communion seal is weightless

So even if you dont actually use tehm much, you're just hurting your options by not dipping even a tiny bit to pick em up
