woah no way
big simp for this game so ill post some resources
https://www.square-enix-shop.com/ffxivttrpg/en/freetrial.html
NOTE: the free trial books are not the full version of the rulebooks
WE RIDING HOOOOME
starter boxes are having a second wave in october i think
player book and gm book will be avaliable for sale...whenever SE decides
do we know if there even is a player/gm book beyond the starter box
i find it highly unlikely they would only release 1 job for each role
especially since they already showed off versions of BRD and SMN
and a bunch of other jobs
in livestreams
yeah alright that's sufficient evidence
my current speculation is the books will have the ARR jobs and a beastiary
maybe some scenarios
for reference the ARR jobs are
- paladin
- warrior
- dragoon
- monk
- bard
- black mage
- summoner
- white mage
- scholar
with ninja included in a post MSQ patch
dark knight was shown off in a live stream which is a part of heavensward which adds: dark knight, astrologian, and machinist
so at bare minimum thats 2 tank jobs, 2 melee dps, 1 ranged dps, 2 magical dps, and 2 healer
so absolute best scenario theres 3 tank, 2 melee dps, 2 ranged dps, 2 magical dps, and 3 healer
which seems ideal imo
uhhh...what is Black Mage's rotation at level 50 lol?
i'm too used to the mmo's lv.60+ version that has fire iv
im actually like
really fucking into some jobs getting touch ups in terms of mechanical complexity
for the trpg
i was talking about this earlier but
neat little stance system too
like surging tempest is no longer
"uhhhh 10% increased dmg"
same thing with power surge on dragoon
theres actual texture
and jump is no longer like
a rotation ability
ooooooh
ALL OR NOTHING RAGGHHHHHH
jump is mega damage or die
man its so cool
are there raid buffs in a sense?
i don't think raid buffs were really a thing in ARR, yeah
BRD is the only one that might
since it gets its songs at 30, 40, and 52
though battle voice is 50
SCH might get sacred soil? do we count that as a raidwide?
lemme check the TLs
yep SCH gets sacred soil
but mitigation buff not a dps raid buff
art of war is the aoe thing right
oh yeah are DoTs a thing lol
yeah
yeah they get it
as it should be
i cant imagine how BRD would look without dots
I can
well, it'd be simple at least
BLK dots are WEIRD
hell, DRG gets a dot at 50
yep
mah boi MNK...
bring him home...
if they come out with a HW and it has King Thordan (Extreme) im gonna go crazy
dont say that
i'm excited for ultimates at some point
i can get a ttrpg group together for that at least 🫠
i wonder if theyre actually gonna do 8 mans
i feel like they'll wanna keep to dungeons cuz its 4 man content
i wonder if they're going to let you unsync
i guess if 8-mans are out, i shouldn't even bring up alliance raids
there are probably ways to make it work
i mean, my idea for 8-mans is "one player plays both tanks, one plays both healers, everyone else gets a dps"
but my group averages around six anyway
i feel like u could two head in this game kinda easily
but they could also scale down raids
alliance raids sound like adventurer's league/pf society play lol
holy
yeah if you want a strict 1 player == 1 character that's about the only way you're going to do alliance raids
but god, it's already herding cats to do alliance raids in the video game, can you imagine how bad it would be at a table
oh yeah wasn't there some sort of crafting/gathering downtime?
the poster on reddit said the full book has a bunch of stuff
a full replay
comics illustrating play
all sorts of sidebars
pretty standard for jttrpgs as far as i know
i imagine crafting and gathering is part of that
yep
AST requires a physical tarot deck (sold separately)
i doubt they will, WAR has the circular overpower
gib astro
i still wonder what it will be
there's conveniently 6 cards so likely a d6 roll for Draw
evens for ranged, odds for melee?
i really hope it's old astro cards with different effects other than dps up
yeah same
at the very least roll d6, each result gives a different effect
at best old astro stance swapping
since it'll be the third healer
maaaaaybe, but since Sage exists now it might not be a stance swapper since Sage fills the shield role in now
but we shall see
but they can make so much money with more expansions.....
(i half joke at this point)
i'm hoping a good VTT implementation gets made cause otherwise i might have to do it
as we all know square makes only the best buisness investments
yeah i hope theres some VTT support
get on it foundry wizards
prob once the full rulebooks come out
i'm gonna have to learn someday
Haven’t got mine in yet but I’m disappointed by the lack of character creation
we've known there will be no chara gen for a while
yeah there isn't something mechanical, you just make your wol however you like, assign a ffxiv race to them, then throw em into a scenario
hey! i can make a 7ft au ra girl at least
its not ffxiv has much customization begin with
considering the base theres not much they couldve done
Did we?
ill be real the communication from SE was ass
but in JP streams they basically said as much and thats what seemed to be shown off during events
but they didnt communicate this to foreign audiences i will agree
yeah a few people (including jas) just manually translated what was shown on stream
Here's a drive folder with all the translated sheets in it for easier navigation. lol
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NmrTZ01yhrNf8pUeJqLyMXgE6vgHeuU7?usp=sharing
💖 5 🔁 1
I knew we were getting sone pregens I just assumed the rule books would come with char gen
i mean like, i think its fair to assume the ffxiv trpg wont have customization like ffxiv
Not surprised there’s no options but job, nor entirely against that, but expected at least all the ARR jobs
my prediction is that the full book will have all the ARR jobs
they showed off DRK on stream which gives me hope the HW jobs will be included in it
but im not expecting it
they showed off SCH, BRD, MNK, DRK on stream iirc
some at multiple levels
no NIN or PLD tho
i think PLD exists? i swear i saw it once
yeah level 30 PLD is translated in matara's drive folder
oh god it comes with stack and spread markers
yoooooooo
Comes with a bunch of maps too
Basically it comes with all the paraphernalia you’d need to run the three pre made dungeons out of the box
what are the brackets for
yoooo
It seems very board gamey with ‘I go you go’ for players then enemies, I also suspect that many of the markers are things you have to navigate around with bosses dropping them on their turn then resolving at the start of their next
But I haven’t seen that in the rules yet so I could be wrong
I’m honestly not sure yet
They’re corners to build aoe markers if you want special or large shapes or don’t want to move a lot of pieces around to put them underneath
Yup, that’s exactly what they’re for
Kinda like it, encourages mobility
If anyone has anything they’d want to see a pic of just ask
im sorry i missed this
i heard there was a replay report in the book
are you able to post pics of that?
oh those books are a lot smaller than expected
yeah, the players guide is filled with comics and examples of how to run the game
hell yes
okay it's out for delivery today. for sure. definitely
copium.jpg
beeg
i'll compile my pics in one post so there's less spam
ok, so the full player's guide is only missing the tutorial comics, and specific Titles that adventurers have. otherwise the content is identical
yeah free trial pl guide vs. the starter box guide
could u post the tutorial comics?
or are they the same ones that were posted to insta?
ooooo could u post the titles?
the starter scenario titles are:
Cellica's Brave Adventurer: Recover 1d6 HP at the start of each new encounter phase.
Mine Drinkin' Buddy: You know how to feast and make merry, even in the company of strangers. This title has no effect during encounters.
Lazy for Lawrence: You may ask the GM to reveal the defense of any seedkin characters on an encounter map.
yeah titles are basically a bonus
the comics are the same ones found here, but officially translated in the PL
oh okay yeah im familiar with these
if u find any graphs that showcase gameplay please post em
yeah they're the same comics, no new ones in the PL
yuh
moving to the GM guide now
oh but there's mentions of a Standard Rulebook to refer to in the PL....
lemme see if that's just what they refer the GM guide as
- chocobo companions gain +10HP at level 40
- +10HP, +1 to all attributes and a damage/heal increase for each ability at level 50
okay, this is what i wanted to see
u should post this in #tabletop-discussion i feel like this hasnt been entered into the discussion
yeah, you can get titles from completing scenarios or from certain milestones within scenarios
lol one title from a scenario doesn't have a function
just like in ffxiv!
hm. hey square. where's my dark knight. where's my monk. where's my-
they only have WHM, BLM, DRG, WAR in this box
so that reddit thread of the box contents is really all this has
yes
welp gotta wait for the Standard Rules + GM Rules books lol
but as of right now the box has enough for setting it up digitally
👀
there's not any i've seen that haven't been posted here https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXIVTTRPG/comments/1d3yl2t/final_fantasy_xiv_ttrpg_tokens_maps_aoe_markers/
they have battlemap setups for beginning encounters, but that's about it
very sad
you can get this though heh (scenario 3 spoiler)
now this is good shit
i'll say though, this game is extremely dangerous for ending the last scenario at the gates of ||The Praetorium||
now all the fucked up GMs will make their own

hm. now do i suffer in foundry's custom system builder or do i do simple worldbuilding first
i considered that more since the game doesn't do too much outside of standard d20 or d6 rolling, but i did mess with CSB more because of fabula
both are version 11 still
u just need to put in ur abilities
i'll have to ask matara if i can use their TLs from the stream for other non-box jobs
do we know if the stream version of the jobs were changed?
like if lv 50 DRG from stream and lv 50 DRG from the box are different
hmm
aww yeee
okay now the question is
how fast will people be to make the expansion jobs
especially AST
given reddit, very quickly but not very well made
just ports ICON Seer
bet: someone homebrews Viper/Picto before Dawntrail releases
i would've really loved if they had cutouts of each job's job gauges with little pips to put on them :>
homebrewers: makes the rest of the jobs left out of the starter box
me: makes Zenos fightable
broke: homebrews all the HW jobs
woke: makes alexander extreme
bespoke: create a zenos raid in SB
we at CBU3 are closely in tune with the community. we will ignore stormblood ultimate and go straight to eden ultimate
we are closely in tune with the community. this is why we are making our trpg a full 5e conversion.
excessive brainrot, go!
I somehow missed these were a thing
I want to play a game of it but so far I can only find one person who is interested
hopefully virtual tools are made
Ttrpg are more fun in person to me as well
super understandable
i have gotten my hands on a vtt for the ffxiv trpg scenarios...
if anyone wants to play i would be more than willing to run it for folks
lol at the tabletop black mage being "old content" now that Sharpcast is removed
bard is here!
er, here soon™️
Just checked the English site, no translation there yet
it isnt on the jp site either
perhaps the bard is some manner of ghost
i'd think so, it would be odd to stop at one
they'll probably release all the ARR jobs (paladin, scholar, ninja, monk, summoner) for free, idk about heavensward (dark knight, astro, machinist) but since dark knight has already been streamed i assume it's gonna be free too
as for later expansion jobs unsure if they'll put them in the full core book, or continue with the free splats
ninja....
soon™️?
It wouldn't surprise me if ARR ones are free but HW ones are behind another expac
the game needs needs a monster manual for actual encounter building
we wont know until we see whats contained in the gm book

deluxe edition????
(still no core books though)
WAIT THAT HAS THE CORE
congrats for those who didn't buy the first edition lol
handouts for dark knight, scholar, black mage, and monk
yippeeee
yeah description says it comes with the standard rulebook
also some acrylic waymarks lmao
that seems almost unnecessary for a physical game but i like their dedication
oh the store page got updated
link?
yep HW confirmed
https://www.square-enix-shop.com/ffxivttrpg/en/index.html
full site if you want the store link etc.
huh, why 55?
i think the preorders come soon since the links to the store are dead
the japanese site's links do work though, so you can get a rough estimate for costs
apparent release date November 23 for the core book and deluxe set
just an unfortunate circumstance of designing around an mmo i feel
Is there a way the rule book can be purchased separately?
yeah i think so soon! the links are just dead atm
it's just like the original wave of preorders going up too early
preorder up now! pricey as shit but expected from square...
70 buckos
lmaooooooo
• Playable Jobs x13
one moment
we are back
Items, shopping, augmentation, personal quests, and more
okay we're cooking
ohoho?
so since the mcdm rpg is my only frame of reference for Physical Releases For The Average TRPG Gamer...70 bucks seems par for the course actually
It's on the expensive side
but i don't know about once you account for the board, etc.
$70 plus shipping (it was $10 for me)
this is only the player's handbook, the deluxe with all the bells and whistles is $198
.....
my lord
oh god right it has a gm guide too right
how much are the dnd books
oh my lord
dnd books go for $60 msrp but when i bought them i always got them off amazon for like $35
I'm comparing it to a Call of Cthulhu hardcover that's thicker (if not heavier, since we don't have that stat), and the listed price for that one is $55
square enix tax
yeah definitely a tax for a book that i doubt has more pages than the lancer core
consider: it has pretty art

square updated the free trial to include the starter box's lv 30 sheets (WAR, WHM, BLM, DRG)
and a level 30 fate scenario
🧐
is this game new? because it flew off my radar, i really did not know aboutthis
Came out just a few months ago
makes sense
also makes sense to take XIV for a ttrpg
wish I could return to playing it ;-;
ive ran it before if u got any questions
how is it? is it basically fabula ultima with the squenix logo attached to it or it's straight up the mmorpg but pen an paper? what mechanics does it use?
nah it's way different from Fabula
Majority of mechanics are in its grid combat system
which I have heard compared to a patched version of the MMO combat
In the starter box, you pick a class and a level, and that's basically your whole character sheet
i think there was some mention that the full game will have more customization but I don't expect the linear class system to change
ye I enjoyed it
it is not like fabu
general combat mechanics are you choose a job to play and roll d20+mod
if u beat the enemy's defenses u do some additional damage
but ur always hitting
so it's like d&d mechanic wise?
not really
in dnd u miss if u dont beat the ac
in ffxiv trpg ur never missing
thats just the general roll mechanic too
each job is just like the mmo, no itemization or customization
tanks handle aggro
dps do damage
healers heal tanks
some enemies will put out aoes that u have to stack or avoid
and some jobs can interupt or cancel
i have to read the manual now
been thinking about this
i would say this trpg is closer to the ff jrpg experience than fabu
Ohoho?
just purely on techhnicality
since fabu is more BD than FF
ffxiv trpg's linear jobs are more inline with FF's progression
Ahhh okay
we got preorders for the standard rules now
oh it was already here...

70 bucks
lmao
i would say "thats fair" if it wasnt using a lot of game assets
though i suppose the presentation is a big sell of this game
the big collection doesn't even have the gm guide....
tried out the ttrpg tonight with friends, it went well and they enjoyed it
the quick speed and presece of a large amount of interactivity was particularly liked by the players, as well as the speed of setup. While it's probably not great for a massive ongoing campaign it is solid for oneshots or a mini series
very nice!
yep i agree!
i'm excited for if they do add more longform play but it's likely going to be just single-session bashes
oh yeah the standard core is supposed to come out at the end of Feb, but it might be delayed
the japanese one was supposedly released in Nov 2024, did we get translations for that?
I just wanna know if they're doing a digital release of the main rulebook as well
it should be, i think?
according to EU customers, shipping is delayed in the EU until April 25
Well, today’s the day the full rulebook is supposed to release stateside, at least
Anyone gotten theirs yet?
none reports yet
we are so back, i got an email saying the core book is shipped
WOOOOO
core book is IN
already off to a good start on a random page
contents
astro is here.........
(phone dyin brb)
very important for this game
that is...not the front facing view of the armor lol
so for character creation, we got your appearance, "profile", and job
appearance is standard, there's a few examples of what you can choose to look like or use as an aesthetic, with a larger section about the ffxiv races after character creation
"profile" is coming up with your character's background + personality, with a roll table for origins, motives, and npc bonds/bond types
profile has your profile trait, which are player-created ways to apply advantage dice to rolls in narrative encounters. you got two choices to create a profile trait:
1 major restriction & one minor restriction
or
3 minor restrictions
profile also has Titles, mechanical traits where only one can be equipped at a time
(also love the character select bg used for character creation hehe)
all the xaela clan names!!!
thank god...we have a good naming convention chapter...
say it louder for the people in the back
god the steppe clans get their own spread of descriptions. it's probably a reprint of what we got online already but i'll take it
no femhroth name conventions..........we got a roll table at the very least
odd that they separated the races's descriptions from the naming conventions for each
never change, squeenix
"leveling up in the ffxiv ttrpg is quite simple!"
step 1: make a new character sheet
a lot of the lore stuff is reprinted from the encyclopedia eorzea books, so not much new
ok job time
all the tank primaries inflict enmity, which is nice
DRK is the only tank that targets m.def, interestingly. PLD targets def only
we have TBN at home
abyssal drain and carve&spit are still ductaped together
interesting choice for square to have WAR in the starter kit when PLD is really meant to be a tank
hm i don't like their format of abilities upgrading without a name change/indicator other than through the text
had to squint to see that PLD's Fight or Flight gets upgraded at level 55
WHM assize
no AST cards.
just throw the whole book out
monk's got stuff
ninjas got ninjutsu
personal table rule to do the hand signs irl
oh my god there are food buffs
gear augmentations exist, acting similarly to a lancer reserve for reference
minions and mounts are mechanics...
DOL/DOH do matter!!!! they're session in-betweens you can choose to do to make some money (called fortune here) or craft items for the actual session
last one before i sleep, starter set errata (spoilers for the adventures in it)
i must ask
where anything that people were hoping was in this book
in the book?
(intentionally broad question)
Wow this is a lot of setting material
That's really cool
Xaela superiority (they had to split the goddamn thing in 3)
the rest of the unreleased ARR/HW classes are in here, we get some lick of character creation, there's 3 more scenarios (scen. 4, 5, 6 in this book), DOL/DOH mechanics, items
i was skimming it at 4am earlier so there may be more i missed
if it's only a sentence or two per, it's probably the existing descriptions
ye it is
Ah well, at least it's recorded someplace other than a forum post or ad-riddled wiki lmao
does the book hint at making your own?
oh right theres a gm book right
no, it does hint at "flair" which is reflavoring the job for different aesthetics
GM book is sometime soon™️
at your discretion, you can walk over to the subreddit to find people's homebrew classes lol
lol based
i was just curious how much i was right about
in my predictions for what would be in the book
yeah there's not a whole lot more to it
how are the three tanks differentiated from each other mechanically?
from my recollection, dark knight has a risk/reward mechanic with darkness, warrior lowers its damage floor, and paladin has the typical magic/physical swapping
they all effectively do the same thing (like the mmo!) where they defend, get aggro, and do their damage thing
generally the jobs do the same thing as their mmo counterparts but have different mechanical texture
ye i can post some screens of em in a bit
warriors are big damage, they funnily enough are the only tank with a combo path lol
paladins get clemency to heal others
I would want to see drk yeah, if you are willing
dark knights have magic attacks (read: target m. def)
yeah i don't think there's any issues with sharing pages, if so then square can sue me
tanks at lvl 60
pardon the phone shadows
How do the stats differ?
I kinda wish they’d made the classes more distinct, I’ve been playing a bunch of hero shooters recently and bringing that niche mentality could be interesting in a ttrpg with the trinity
tank stats
healers at lvl 60
ast caught lackin
melee dps
implications of beast chakra being different outside of the core rules, crossing my fingers that we get more books 🤞🤞
ranged dps
casters
…even in the TTRPG, SMN heal is pathetic? 😛
yeah idk why they bothered but sure lol
not like anyone who doesn't play ffxiv is gonna know that SCH and SMN are mechanically connected, there's no arcanist
peak simulation
GM guide preorders are live
ooh they got trial encounters (called "challenge duties" here)
includes a list of enemy data too
release date: january 2026
ARGGGHHHHH
hey it's emulating the source material well lol
waiting on them releasing free demos
oh pog, time to modify the demo copypasta
Thanks for the heads up, preordered… but oof, almost a year away?
yerp
Still haven’t seen any word on when they’re restocking the player book either
Eeeyup
Finally managed to find the player handbook… in a game shop
niiice
oh yeah i forgot to say that my GM guide is shipped lol
uhh i need to check if there's a pdf literally anywhere
finally. i can play the ffxiv ttrpg uhhh checks notes 2 years after it released
wow! i cant wait to play the Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG™!
I just heard about the critically acclaimed TTRPG Final Fantasy XIV™! With an expanded sourcebook, I can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward campaign up to level 60 with only a GM!
I can't wait to play this critically acclaimed TTRPG!
exploding you with my mind for that one /j
I draw steel to parry this mind attack!
hehehe
several cutscenes will play in sequence
LMFAOOO
time to play a 600hr mmo story to understand the material
time to create the absolute worst timelines
"we have clocks at home"
we are so back
Oh nice, I thought it was going to be in January for some reason. Just checked and mine’s on the way too
yeah it was slated for a february 2026 release iirc
stormblood expac announced
240 pages of swimming rules /j
The Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG Advanced Rulebook: Stormblood includes new level 65 and 70 abilities
woah 2 new abilities!
im so excited!
August 2026 🙃
Looks like I just got my copy
