My current project is shaping up to be a pretty hefty expansion. Vehicles, headquarters, new combat skills, a round-based option for narrative play, banes, swimming, expanded summoning options, and improvised traps so far.
If you have an adventuring organization, you’ll be able to build a headquarters somewhere, and the more time you put into it, the more benefits it gives you. You will also be able to build branch headquarters in other locations. They won’t be quite as good as your main headquarters, but they let you spread your influence further.
Headquarters are a prerequisite for getting your own party vehicle. You can also use your headquarters to perform magical rituals, which can give you things like extradimensional storage and a fast-travel network between your bases.
Vehicles can have mounted equipment, including some very big guns. The available vehicles so far range from a covered wagon to a train car to a jetbike. There are water vehicles, too.
A vehicle statblock contains the basic details for each vehicle: its Size and dimensions, how much it can carry, how fast it can move, how durable it is, and any special properties it has. The Wagon is an illustrative example here, as it’s one of the simplest vehicles.
Wagon
Large Vehicle - Terrestrial
Dimensions: between 2x2 (4 spaces) and 4x6 (24 spaces)
Speed: 5
HP: 7 per space
Evasion: 6
Magic Defense: 6
Armor: 1
Weight: 6 per space
Carry Capacity: 5 per space
Push Capacity: 16 per space
A Wagon is typically pulled by one or more beasts of burden, which are usually Medium or Large animals of some kind. Wagons can be covered or open, and modern designs are comfortable over long journeys.
Note also the introduction of a new mechanic: Weight. This is the main change to the existing pushing/dragging/carrying mechanics, placing certain restrictions on what each character and vehicle can move. For players, Weight is pretty much a non-issue; you can push and carry enough that the existing rules don’t change much. But for vehicles and larger creatures, Weight (and the related Carry Capacity and Push Capacity statistics) becomes a much larger factor.
There’s a free intro mission available for Stormwild Islands, by the way. It includes everything needed to run the game, including a selection of pre-made characters.
I have finally compiled all my notes for the content expansion into one document. I’m going through and starting to format it, which will add some length, but it’s already 130 pages long. That’s probably a good sign, since I’m done with major additions for now, and that puts it at a similar length to the Player’s Guide and Gamemaster’s Guide.
Speaking of, I will probably put out a minor revision to those two books soon-ish. The content expansion has given me an excuse to harmonize a lot of stuff, since I’ve learned quite a bit in the process of writing the new content.
