if you bring at least two sets of mortar tuirrets (Ems & Explosive), and the rest of your team is running quasar/autocannons etc
it's very handlable even on diff 9
we three-manned it becuase our fourth got bugged out and wouldnt respawn
i've acquired 100 super samples, thus putting a bookend to having the cap on everything there currently is in the game (aside from leveling)
now time to log off and touch grass until the warbond is out
which is really just one day but
I still need a few hundred super credits. I was getting close to the medal cap so I unlocked all the SC in the warbonds but I'm still short.
I still haven't maxed out my destroyer
And I'm too poor to buy any of the warbonds too

I'm at about 500 SC and I don't have steel veterans
I'm shy 150odd rare samples to max my destroyer
I guess it might help to play on lower difficulties to collect sc
my destroyer is like 80% there I think
yeah I just occasionally run some diff 1s and just groblin around collecting all the POI loot
it's not that interesting
there are faster ways but they're a bit exploit-y

Depends. Often LMG and personal shield. Or jump-pack, sniper and railgun.
On lower levels I bring RPGs to kill dropships
Gotcha. I'd recommend swapping your support to Autocannon, Quasar Cannon, or EATs. They have a MUCH lower ttk and can help chew through enemies quick.

Rockets are ok, but I don't personally run them (throw armor + sickle + senator + quasar + supplies + airstrike + orbital rail gives me plenty of power)
tbh, i think orbital railcannon and rockets are a mistake generally
anything they can do 500kg or precision orbital strike can do
and often do better
The only thing they offer is reliablity, which can be compesnated for by skill
OrbRail is good for clearing things around a corner or with a quick-toss.
It also has a shorter call in, meaning it's got a better chance of hitting the enemy before it hits me
And also for Turrets
I like all sorts of airstrike. But 500 KG is great. Especially when you unlocked double capacity on Eagle Fighters
Cause getting a PStrike on a turret is V hard ime without getting to where impacts could kill it instead

Mortar the explosive is only really good in defence or if you also bring EMS and warn your teamamates
and even the nyou have to postion it v. carefully so bots dont just blow it to pieces

Nah. There's utility to them on missions where you have to hold a point and even then, I only recommend EMS
i bring EMS mortar if i'm too lazy to throw my own EMS around
Bots have gotten a lot better at shooting the mortars
I tend to covertly snipe their turrets when they are placed nearby me. They teamkill me whenever I am on an elevated position.

Towers are widely the same, slightly more reliable. The Arc Thrower got a whole rework, less damage, moar stagger, 1s charge time all the time, etc etc.
The biggest change is that divers got access to 95% arc resist armor

I had a painful experience of a random lobby on it, I died in the first zone because they started deploying mines and strikes while we were still in it which is understandable.
But when i went to get my backpack and quasar the dude started shooting the mines around me (with his HMG emplacement) and killed me. (During the lull between waves)

It was all fine after that but i swear to god i was slowly going between the mines to get this gear that takes 5 minutes to call in

Visual Accessibility in games is kind of complicated since there's a lot of moving parts and simple color filters aren't usually enough. But also most don't see the effort to be worth it

Sickle is outright better than everything other light pen primary and I won't pretend otherwise

i used the automatic handgun and set it to semi
But I pretty much never see bullet drop at practical ranges
and it's basically just a direct upgrade to the starting handgun
If anyone hasn't tried Semi Auto High Magnification Liberator, I highly recommend giving it a try
itβs so fun
the bolter has taken it as my number 1 but for bugs i like turning them into paste with buckshot still
regular or pen? semi auto lib pen is crazy for bots
Punisher doesn't leave my hands because I refuse to allow anything to invade my space without severe repercussions

Genuinely surprised AH hasn't pulled retrieve essential personnel from the operation lists
It'd almost universally reviled as unfun and unbalanced
Defenses fail because people don't want to do that one mission type that shows up in almost every defense operation
It sucks and nobody does it on high diffs
Meaning very few high diff Operations actually get completed
And thus no defense progress
I like some defense missions
It's specifically that one mission
Essential Personnel
Retrieve Civilians and Defend Assets are both great
I did on a high dif

Essential personnel sucks but after the last patch it's not nearly as bad

I don't think you need to actually complete operations to gain defence progress it's just from doing missions
Iirc you do need to complete operations for your liberation progress to be added to the planet
how it is different than the retrieve civilians one?
The main difference is amount of enemies
Because they spawn immediately and they ramp fast
Like, not even a minute in and multiple hulks have spawned
Civilian defense you actually go around the whole map doing two side objectives
Then do the evacuation as a quick finale
it's a normal map
Essential Personnel is just an Eradicate but you have to protect civilians

I have only ever completed an essential personnel that wasn't like diff 4 once
ok then i haven't actually done that mission type
but it sounds really shit to play
It's an Eradicate where you have to do the civilian extraction for like 40+ scientists or it never ends
And you end up just losing the line from Scorchers being dropped in the middle of the joint
And then you just get broken up and spiral
As bots flood the base with Devastators and hulks
Tides of berserkers
And tanks
It is BIG suck
They really ought to remove it and let the other fun defense missions take it's place
sounds like it!
The biggest pain is that the bots will be basically instantly inbetween the civis, so you can't even really clean them up
You can't stop spawning civs for a second and have to constantly be playing out of your mind or you'll get overwehlmed and pushed back at which point GG
The only reliable method is to have 3 people run around the edge of the map being as loud as possible while one person sneaks back and forth spawning the civs
The bots straight up drop inside the compound you are trying to defend
It's not even close to a fair defense

i played a few yesterday for the first time and it was so bad
which sucks because theres some cool possibilities

The only way to consistently do 9s on it is really annoying
spawn you a unit it of 1.5x completion numbers of scientists, evenely split to follow each helldiver, each with a pistol
walk across the map fighting or avouding patrols to extract with a waiting shuttle
protect the shuttle while it refules
that or go full comedy, and as it is now except it spawns 40 civilian scientists at once and you have to extract 10 of them from an eradication map

But basically it boils down to something like this:
If they give us perfect info, people will immediately jump on that and optimise it to the point where they remove most of the fun. No more experimentation or taste allowed, you run the best stuff or nothing.
Or just make the bots have to attack from OUTSIDE
You have one person bring 4x red stratagems to immediately control any single drop, and they run to the objective and do it nonstop.
3x people get far away from the base and bait nonstop bot drops to keep the person inside the base clear
So the devs have to hide some info, and balancing what to give and what to hide is difficult and they get it wrong all the time.
Good dev teams then adjust and improve (like AH looking into showing the supply lines f.ex. and adding the explosive damage to the Scorcher), others just leave it as is.
If they didn't drop Scorchers right into the evacuation shuttle door all the civilians are running to

All it takes is a few Hulks in the civilian evacuation path and you're fucked

It's fairly easy if and only if 3 helldivers hang out on the opposite side of the map drawing all the aggro

Defend civilian evacuation isn't even bad! And it's like the same thing but with sub objectives on a full map and fairer spawns for the finale

Very good mission type, and the most I've felt like we might actually run out of tools and then die, instead of the usual getting swarmed before we can use everything, which was neat.
The bugs spawned in waves whenever you initiated a silos generators
Yeah I think the lack of waves makes them too grinding
It's too common to have a good strat and execute on it and lose 70% of the way through because the literally constant spawns grind you down

And yeah you don't actually help a planet defense if you don't finish an Operation
Doing 2/3 then starting a new one is a failure
Which is probably why we always lose Defenses
People eat the good stuff in the bag and then throw it away

Mortar farming just existed because 1 set of mortar turrets could clear a 9 eradicate
Yeah. A completed 9 difficulty gives more % than anything else due to the exp modifiers, but a completed 1 gives more than doing 2/3 of a 9
Now that they'll die or run out of ammo first mortar farming is dead
(And most of the mortar farmers are level 25+ haha)
So I tried that new wave defense automaton mission types

A team mate joined in the middle and the game broke

We were on difficulty 7 and not that many bots even spawned

They upped the spawn rate for sure. Hot tip: one person chucks an orb laser, assaults the mobs at the base of tower, drops the hellbomb.

recent experiences in this game have made me think that I'd personally really like a server browser like in DRG
the kind of types you run into on this game can be...a mixed bag, and server titles tend to tell you a lot about who you're running into when you queue
plus it's nice to know whether a team wants to fullclear or speedrun, the dissonance between one person trying to play another way while someone plays another one can really mess up the gameplay
I also hate the "randomly show missions on a map" shit
there's a reason why one of the first payday 2 mods was removing that

Gahdamn, why did no one tell me the regular laser cannon actually slaps? It requires a little more finesse than the recoilless or even the autocannon but zorching down hulks and tanks feels fantastic

That weapon is a beast
I try too hard to not overheat the sickle and wind up getting overwhelmed because of a habit to try and wait instead of just reloading in half a second.
Usually it's not an issue but when you're doing a solo bug mission and 40 hunters are bearing down on you it's a little much.

The Railgun nerf was very necessary, but it could probably be pulled back a bit now
Practice burst firing it, hold let go hold let go. Really helps to extend the magazine time when switching targets on raiders and small bugs.

Exosuit is cool and powerful though kinda vulnerable, particularly against rocket bots.
You're a big target and you WILL aggro every patrol that looks in your direction from father away than normal, so be ready to fight a LOT.
It absolutely will mince pretty much anything though if you're not getting totally swamped like in an extermination mission
I'd wait for usability buffs, it both has annoyingly misaligned sights and no hipfire cursor - the incredible awkwardness of using it doesn't match the power you get for mastering it
