my death with be painful and there will be nothing left to bury
uh oh
why would he say this
AAAAAAA I LOVE
RATHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
this game is fucking insane omg
okay so like
in games like this, I've never been in love with the idea of being saddled to a single creature / companion the whole time. It's always felt weird to me that a game built around team-construction would not only give you one piece that you always have to bring along, but is also a lot stronger than other options at the same level...
But Stories ends up doing such a good freakin' job making me give a damn about Ratha tbh
best game ever.
Other way around
charge at you with undodgeable full body hitbox every two seconds, sometimes does a janky projectile
Barioth came in 3rd Gen and acts as a mid point between Nargacuga and Tigrex, who were Gen 2 flagships
2 in the sense of "slightly stronger version of the same concept", though you're right that out did exist first
Tbf tigrex does have a few tricks thar barioth doesn't
Like charging repeatedly
And having a damaging roar
And charging. Repeatedly.
idk barioth does do a lot of charging
Trigrex's rock shotgun is really nasty combined with it's other moves.
oh yeah, is there an explanation for that?
usually they avoid anything overtly magical/supernatural outside of elder dragons
so why is Tigrex able to create infinite matter with its mind to throw at you
Despite what the graphics show what it does it shove boulders out of the ground at you
Yo, uh, anyone with experience in Wilds got a minute? I might need some help.
Game's crashing on shader compile, already tried verifying file integrity and restarting my PC but nothing's helped so far
Is it the latest version?
have you tried going into the local files and deleting shader.cache?
Shader cache? No, i havent, sjould i do that?
yeah that makes the game redownload your shaders (or recompile them, idk which) and helped my end out
Ahhh, gotcha. Will do.
hrrrm
did not work
maybe i'll just reinstall rise, instead.
I feel like I've asked and/or Googled this question multiple times before but Rise does not have crossplay, right?
Oh hell yes
I'm having the urge but was wondering if I could play it on PC with my partner on Switch
Lol fair
rise does not unfortunately
it would've probably used something like a capcom account setup to do that
COMBO
Although this a game to fight in this is not a fighting game
1st try
This is hell
1st try Blackveil
congratulations, hunter
now no one will ever have to listen to shara ishvalda's mixtape ever again
It sucked anyway
"Why didn't you help us?"
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) now no one will ever have to listen to shara ishvalda's mixtape ever again
terminalmontage my beloved
That was our first interaction with Monster Hunter, completely spoiled iceborne fwiw but it didn't matter
eh, monhun plots have never been what we're here for lol
it's about the world and beating the shit out of all the beautiful things in it
and the plots exist solely to make the world feel a bit more lived in and the environments that much grander
NGL, really feeling like quitting world rn
Guiding Lands make no sense and I've only been running around aimlessly
You need to focus on hunting monsters in one specific region to increase that region's level and unlock new monsters (eventually culminating in unique monsters which you can capture to unloc their arena quests for later) and also upping your MR to unlock some new cool stuff
Music Monster Hunter Stories 2 OST Battle Theme
A long time personal rival and one I still love fighting
are you fucking kidding me
||Fatty!!!!!!!!!!||
yeah, it wasn’t my favourite endgame
It helped to level up the regions I needed for lifesteal augments, since those were my main post-game goals, while mixing in normal quests for armour/new monsters/fun as a break from it
still need to get about 9 more MRs for 100, then it’s off to fatty… though I’m a little burnt out (and also playing Lies of P lately)
my hideous chud-horse
he's so fucked up looking
Bro has a neckbeard
They did mans diabolical 😭
i think
i am not going to finish iceborne
most assignments in the DLC i've beaten first try within ~30 minutes with no faints
after preparing and building for it as much as i could, i had two attemts in a row against velkhana where i spent 40 minutes of my life, then ran out of continues and got absolutely nothing
i wish that if you dodged the attacks you wouldn't get hit by the attacks
what was your gear for Velkhana?
instead of there being random ice afterexplosions on everything that deal half your health and knock you down to get comboed into something else
max ice resist, weakness exploit, and divine blessing
our loadout, took a good moment of farming to get all the gear
and max health boost
what weapon?
heavy bowgun
Sorry, what specific bowgun
the fulgur anjanath one, with normal 3
it has very good damage and evasiveness, but that just doesn't matter when there are 1 mile radius ice explosions every five seconds
yeah but negative affinity
ok?
affinity is a lot less consequential than the game makes it out to be. -20% affinity means -5% damage.
also why not flaming ammo?
oh
in exchange for like 20% faster firerate
Got Iceproof Mantle+?
i have iceproof mantle
i know upgrading it is a scam, since you don't actually get the effects of the decorations
it really doesn't seem to make much of a difference when i already have max ice resist
if i really want to continue i know the two options are spend a hundred hours grinding hoping the game will deign to give me good decorations, or keep banging my head against velkhana until i just memorize everything it does and can dodge all the 30 foot ice explosions
but i'd rather just
not
What platform are you on?
steam deck?
I had a dream where capcom revealed ahtal ka for wilds during the game awards
and it was in... the iceshard cliffs?
2 sentence horror
Ahtal ka?
Okay but imagine riding your seikret up and out of the chasms and onto solid ground, almost like a reverse of the jin dahaad routine
Ahtal Ka is a Neopteran fhat resembles a golden mantis. It appears unremarkable, at first, and seems like a strange choice for an end-game fight...
Until ||it uses unseen threads to dredge old machines out of the desert sand, constructing what amounts to a dragon mech that hunters have to scale and dismantle...||
Oh, that's cool
What game is it in?
Gen Ult i think

☆ Boss fight against the Ahtal-Ka in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch in 1080p. MHGU MHXX Switch Monster Hunts.
Mightve been in previous games, I wouldnt know. Im fairly new to mh
Samesise
i think it's just in GU
Was GU the one that combined all the first three games?
Not quite, it was basically "monster hunter's greatest hits" and had monsters from a bunch of previous games and brought back a couple of specific villages from previous games
but it had its own series of quests, progression, and mechanics distinct from the other games, so it wasn't a compilation in that sense
Yeah
It did have a lotta older monstwrs
But yeah it was in the old pre-world era of monhun games
So a bunch of QoL is missing
it has some of the greatest fights in the series that I still think haven't been topped (and also one of them got utterly butchered when they brought it back, which made me very sad) and I still occasionally go back to my old G rank save to just... hunt things, which is more than I can say about world
...I don't think I'd particularly want to go through the whole game from the beginning again though, unless I was dragging someone else through it for the first time.
...it also really wants you to play with a quest list open.
Which one got butchered?
glavenus
Oh, how so?
i was vague and didn't mention the specific monster originally because i don't like talking about games i don't like in front of people who like them in extended detail, it feels kind of rude
Ah, right, sorry
I ask cause it might be possible to mod in deco crafting
excited to see if the performance improvements mentioned in the patch notes work out

the optimizations seem promising, especially since they've actually acknowledged just about everything wrong with the game's current optimization
round one should be noticeably impactful for everyone on every system if they've done it right, and it already sounds like they have
I really hope they release a comprehensive overview of what they're fixing, because it's actually kind of fascinating how the game wastes processing power sometimes
i haven't played in a while but i heard they also fixed input lag on some LS moves some patches ago?
wahooo
now please buff Rapid Morph
what was broken about swaxe?
its optimal damage cycle was probably the most "chase the big attack as singlemindedly as possible or you're doing less damage than like 14 other weapons" it's ever been in the franchise, and a ton of its regular attacks felt like they'd been specifically tooled to be ineffectual
axe mode is just Not Great in general
insect glaive also got reworked to be closer to older insect glaive
People were mad about Insect Glaive
also YIPPEE GOGMAZIOS
It's been so long that I barely remember the original hunt
Wilds really is the 4U sequel
Tar usually binds the wings
Iconically, it's rage mode is launching into the air and then doing a massive oil nuke
I was expecting even goopier but still quite good
I'm sure he's gonna be plenty goopy
Also this pretty much guarantees that we're gonna get Julius along with Shagaru, I'd be confused if we didn't
Welcome back again, Monster Hunter 4
shagaru for wildlight
🙏
hopeful for the optimization :)
also hey Tokuda if we're getting MH4U-2, can we have Tetsucabra and Seltas Queen
maybe some Najarala action if we're good
God I'd love Najarala
I'm really hoping for Agnaktor
Perfect for Wilds
also Qurupeco, as a treat
please
It's a new monster but pie in the sky wish would be Namielle with an updated fight
namielle in the scarlet forest
Namielle in- yeah exactly
it's such an obvious pick
also I hate that wet fuck and I'm gonna kill it for my goth splatoon cosplay
I miss Agnaktor's beaksnapping, such a charmer
I have a very fond memory of learning of it the first time
In full butterfly gunner armor in 3u
Wait no, fuck, Great Jaggi's roar is a sound cue
Bein oneshot
"Awh, what's he doin-"
Still wild they were like 'gunners don't need defense' like things don't fly and shoot godzilla beams
I loved that clack so much
my absolutely delusional wish is that we get Great Jaggi back to maximize the pack mechanics, and it's just a fucking Master Rank hunt where you get your shit juggled by dinosaurs with multiple alphas
Once in tri low rank I killed my quest target, and then I'm the 60s remaining, killed the great jaggi
Poor dude
Great Jaggi was my test dummy for so long
Bring him back and buff the fuck out of him, make him smart and agile 🙏
i kinda want to offset or power clash with great maccao's charges
my bouncy lil guy
boingy boy :)
honestly I'm not sure if they've made a more cohesive tutorial monster than Maccao
right? it teaches a lot and will knock your socks off, and has a theme to boot
Actually wait no what I really want most is literally any carapaceon
Maccao was great
I love it so much
God i hope it works out...
i'm deeply sad that none of the big buffs were to axe mode
but i'm glad that it's going to have some actual moves they exist again
Yeah, frustratingly the console team (if it can still be called that) seems to see Swaxe as essentially faster, flashier GS with axe mode just being intended as downtime between charged sword mode combos
It's funny, I mained Swaxe in World and then again in Rise but then when I went back for another playthrough of world I just couldn't imagine going back to the non rapid-morph SwAxe gameplay
"slash axe" vs "switch axe" I guess
It feels a lot like they've mixed up Switch Axe and Charge Blade gameplay-wise
"why would you ever want to be in axe mode" type behavior
IIRC the point of axe mode, at least originally, on Swaxe was to build up guage to spend on openings for sword mode
That's what it's becoming, just a temporary step on the way to a stronger 50% of the weapon, but that's not what it's historically been
axe mode has always been way more versatile
faster, longer reach, better mobility
and that's been dwindling
morph chaining itself has also been dwindling, leading to a playstyle where you treat axe mode the same way you treat wood and stone tools in Minecraft - a necessary lesser version of what you want to be using, whose only purpose is to get you there as fast as possible
but they've also been overtuning Switch Axe finishers so severely that it turns that whole thing into its own loop where you do nothing but chase explosions, instead of actually utilizing the weapon's moveset in any meaningful way
Like TooClose said, Sword mode has basically just become Anime Greatsword, and Axe mode is treated as downtime during which you're not Allowed To Access The Good Half Of The Weapon
which just isn't an engaging gameplay loop
you can still stubbornly play it the old way, but it's been so mistuned that you can feel what a disadvantage it is
oh so thats why my zoh shia fight was down to the fucking wire
i was using axe mode for like 10 minutes
You know what game announcement I would want more than anything
a Generations mod that adds damage numbers, makes gathering instant, makes map traversal faster, improves ranged aiming controls, and makes monster tracking less of a pain
it's ok if the map is broken into pieces as long as it doesn't take seven minutes to get from one end to the other
ranged aiming controls would be berry nice.,.,
mrrhrr...
Gog's a motherfucker but he's a good time once you get the hang of it
Does anyone have any insight on how monster ideas, abilities and gimmicks are made up?
it varies a lot, but the devs have done a number of interviews
Oceaniz has translated a few
they seem to tend to originate about how you'd expect - some are high concept, some are "hey guys this sounds like it would be cool", some are mechanical necessity, and some are just "okay we've got this concept art, let's brainstorm"
iirc they shifted design priorities somewhat with World but I'm not aware of any good examples
They still do a massive amount of ecological and physiological worldbuilding behind the scenes, which makes the design books a gold mine
How good does Gog's gear look
Here's the preview they gave of it with the announcement
I feel like it looked better in 4U but I'd need to check
It's a lot more blue than I remember
Does have that sort of 'oil on concrete' kind of halo to it
Hopefully we can get something like this in master rank
weird question
i've got 250+ hrs in game and i don't even know how many hundreds of decorations dropped
i have never gotten a Blast Attack 3
am i experiencing a weird quirk of statistics or is there just no Blast Attack 3 in game for some reason
I'm back. :)
This time MH4U is on the menu!~

you must become zen and abandon your want, or the desire sensor will forbid it
the most fucked up thing about that joke is that it genuinely works for me every single time
They also do a lot of dedicated real life research, like going to other countries just to look at the architechture of various cultures
which is part of why the worlds tend to feel so well, real

Chat how is gogmazios treatingg y’all
Love the female one
It's fun although I need to learn to balance "aiming slinger in first person while riding my horse" and "looking at where I am standing"
First person?!?
What is this
Or at least the focused third person of slinger aiming
I don't really love how the armour looks either but bits of it are nice
But the original ones look so much better
Huge
yeah, i want to give ig a try now
You lot reckon this is going to be event armor or more cosmetic DLC
The stuff on the right, anyway, I know the stuff on the left is the event armor
everything in this screenshot should be craftable
The tip in all bold about delaying the laser is really terrible advice. Gog's health is gated such that he can't leave phase 2 with any less than 43% health. Delaying the laser only wastes time and adds unnecessary risk
yeah that was crossed out
the post was already edited to reflect that when it got posted here
and imo the "you don't have to panic shoot" part is still relevant
they also need to cross out the "switch to dragon in p2" bit
because dragon's only consistently better in p3
Damn, mobile Reddit strikes again 😔
...you know what I wish got brought back
Surge Slash combo
I miss the FUCK out of Surge Slash
i still have to give it a tryyyyyy
you know what, I'm gonna give it a shot later
i'm working on making a lance build in rise, and i need to make some guard decos anyways
good enough time to try out a new playstyle
went out to hunt some Bulaqchi for the daily and found Chata sunbathing
Chatacabra, yippie
surge slash time
i don't blame him, you ever tried doing that? i normally hate the sun but damn if it doesnt feel good on my skin sometimes
i am kind of enjoying this event quest where you can beat up a lagi and rath in the arena for a bunch of armor spheres
especially bc i'm farming for a rath ruby anyway to transcend my rath armor
mh rise supremacy
surge slash is pretty fun, definitely relying on power sheathe to get me out of sticky situations lol
got a lance build together and will poke a few things next session
not sure if I have the perfect guard cross slash switch skill...
might be behind one of the early hub quests

yippeeee
now all they have to do is make the axe half relevant again
When was the last time the axe half was relevant and it wasn’t because of rapid morph
mmmmaybe 4u?
I know absolutely not generations/generations ultimate, in those games you just clicked Demon Riot/Energy Charge and stayed in Sword More literally forever
...Well, theoretically, you could use the extra reach/mobility of axe mode in GU, and there were options that specifically favored it, but Striker Demon Riot was The Main Way To Play back then
GU was the first time it was really geared toward "you live in sword mode", and Striker Loop was fucking scary
Well, G
They played basically the same between the two afaik
4U definitely feels like the last time axe mode was really 50% of the weapon
they nerfed energy charge in GU (compared to Gen) so that it was harder to keep up the infinite sword mode
it wasn't enough, people just either used deviant weapons or swapped to energy charge II rather than III
yeah infinite sword mode was a fucking PROBLEM in G
"oh yeah sure I can sub-5 a Deviant Glavenus"

god, the gogma dps check is frustrating
not meeting the check itself, but keeping track of where the hell Fabius is
just ate the last cart on a hunt because i was standing next to him during the final dps rush during the windup, and then suddenly he was halfway across the arena for some reason
And the top LS set uses Gore set bonus now
im very lucky i run charge blade cause i can just guard for myself if need be
might run a shielded weapon on my seikret for that
Iunno if you need guard/guard up but i have those since i tend to be my team's tank

Jin dahaad gunlance
Mainly has innate guard 3
honestly? pretty happy with this roll
getting the Steve bonus on my first swaxe pull was incredibly lucky
Does dualsense in wilds on pc still cause bsods?
Amatsu.. defeated..
Only took me playing solo and getting the most optimized build possible for the time
Gods it feels good though
apparently it was a problem on Steam's end and it was patched in April
at least that's all I can find about the subject
I have a friend who plays with a dualsense controller without issue
Oh excellent, thanks!
congrats!!!
oh my goodness 😭
Can't get this anywhere else, I love this shit
time for another Gypceros with randos let's go
btw till, if you ever want to do some rise hunts I'm down!
pro of playing world and rise so long after release: so much stuff to do, complete game + expansion
cons: most of my mh friends aren't playing them much anymore, and the 2 others who do are on xbox 😭
😭
Hopefully crossplay is a permanent standard for the franchise now
carved 3 bird wyvern gems off the same gypceros 🥴
shout-out to the player I just encountered in random co-op named "Big Papi", the very first person I've ever heard use public voice chat in this game, who was definitely high, definitely still competent, shouted his own name at the end of the quest, and then used the guitar solo emote in front of the Rathalos's carcass
i think you met a god

In this video I identify what caused lower CPU performance after the title 4 update for Monster Hunter Wilds and how to fix it. I also test 8GB VRAM GPU improvements with the update which are larger than what I saw for 16GB cards.
...
Fascinating
Basically: The new update turned on deferred shader compilation, making the game attempt to compile some shaders in real-time instead of at launch (this may also be what's causing the shader comp screen to act erratically). Simply letting the game cook while idle in-game solved stutter issues.
Some people have identified a new addition to the game's config file called "EcoShaderCache". Setting it to True causes this new behavior, which also comes with the game's pre-comp behaving super erratically on some systems (usually harmless but some users have reported instability and instant CTDs).
Turning it off reverts the game to total shader compilation on launch, but it's still being experimented with to make sure turning it off doesn't somehow turn anything else off unintentionally.
Oh we'd be happy to, when we get to the Risens
Then we'll actually be able to get our build together :b
peak

anytime
my build is also not fully together
god I still don't have a coherent build for Wilds
Wilds is harder to build for
I really appreciate being able to craft decos in RiseBreak, even if there's still grinding involved with that
imo the only RNG that should exist in MonHun is monster drops, everything else should be a matter of crafting
facts
can't stand gear rng
the gameplay loop should begin and end with "I hope I get the drops I need to make the thing I want"
also, entirely unrelated (but also related) but can we please get negative skills back in some capacity
they're good! they're fun! they're interesting! they're a built-in means of balancing stronger skills! they would help curb the ever-compounding skill bloat that the games are suffering from!
Funny thing is the way the skills were changed would actually make the negative skills work out as a bigger deal due to not being able to go just short of the threshold
🙏
I wish Gog used the glock.
AT Gog sees us knock it off his back, picks it the fuck back up, and uses it on us
Build is at the end of the clip, but it's the same as what I posted last time so there's nothing special. Waiting for AT Dahaad pieces to complete Binding Counter II and absolutely incinerate Lagi...
Was trying out the zone 14 speedrun, and this guy is a mid-hp roll, which is 1800 more than what you see in most YT speedruns. So I think with AT ...
waow
god damn alright
getting into wilds again..
remind us, did we have a squad for this server?
I'm in the pinned one, but it appears to be named "Squad" now so I was wondering if there was a secret new one or something-
there now you can all pat dodogama
look, play that at the venue, and pay attention to who starts to duck for cover, go to them and exchange contact info, you now have a hunting buddy
(assuming your wife still allows you to hunt after the stunt)
doing this with deviljho's theme (and doing it again when I approach the buffet)
...bit of an odd request
Would it be possible for one of you lot to like
Log into my Steam account temporarily and nab me some tickets from the current event
I wanna make that fancy plate armor but I can't play video games on my computer currently
Or would that not work
Zog
welp
Wilds managed to run nice for 2 days
and now suddenly refuses to and crashes all the time
sigh
I suppose we await the optimization patch like everyone else

On the bright side, I have an excuse to bully my friends into finishing Rise

It's so frustrating that Wilds is such a nonsensically temperamental beast
I'd love to learn about every fucked up edge case that spontaneously prevents people from playing it, but it just keeps breaking in weird ways
From our understanding, it's probably something to do with our AMD setup
my brother picked it up, after fiddling with some settings worked fine
husband borrowed it via family sharing, crashed during opening cutscene
tried again, adjusted some graphical settings, made it through, got through character customization
crashed immediately after
...well, my brother's at least Mostly having fun
I actually found a super confusing problem myself the other day while trying to revert the new update's shader compilation behavior
for some reason, the shader compilation setting's string is both case-sensitive and seemingly non-functional
ie: changing it from True to False does nothing, but changing it from True to false causes an instant GPU crash on launch
Excellent
This game is truly an enigma
In all fairness, I've been running it on a tiny laptop and barely avoiding framedrops until recently...
So..
I guess I got what I was due
karmic buildup 😔
Question regarding the older games, how did Prowler Mode work
Was it just like, an alternative to playing as a Hunter
yea
Or was it its own separate gamemode entirely
i haven't done it as a hunt, only for gathering or prowler-only quests
but you can access normal quests
you pilot one of your palicos
i believe so? not 100% sure
you build up meter over time that can be used on your palico's learned support moves
like health horns, flashes, whatever
That sounds fun
it's quite whimsical
the melee combat doesn't have as much depth from the little I played (especially in the game with Hunter Styles), and it's only 1 moveset, but that's fine
oh prowler was great
lmao
Two DPS checks, the monsters
POV: fighting PrimMalzeno for the first time and he's just sat up in the air
(I fainted in one hit)

he's really, really cool...
the steadily increasing aggression, the way it fights like a knight wielding shield and lance, only to grow more and more erratic as it falls to the influence of the qurio...
yeah :((
i’m down to try it co-op in a week, I’ve only gotten it down twice

man I love a hunt that tells a story
I've also finally managed to start finding my flow again with Switch Axe after a really long time of just keeping my brain turned off and playing full efficiency 🙏
feels good to only ever roll to gap close

oh that's what was supposed to happen
god that fight was wild
weirdly, I was fainting before because I was playing far too cautiously
Prim just takes advantage of that
Started introducing two friends to Rise earlier, and I forgot how charming Kamura is
I also forgot how to navigate every map
yeah kamura is a great town
YEAAA
also wild to me that Elgado basically confirms that this setting has trains (either that or they invented miniature locomotives specifically for this use case)
Elgado seems to be rather advanced compared to a lot of other monhuns
Like
Afaik they have some of the first examples of steamships in games
and projectile dragonators
oh god that's right
Wilds also suggests some SIGNIFICANT tech advancement within the Guild's awareness, particularly with the Gogmazios story
||they have some concept and understanding of how a railgun works, and someone mentions that "similar weapons exist" in a way that I don't think is referring to, like, Artian weapons or the Rey Dau LBG||
World Artian Palico armor makes them float like a ufo
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) Like
Afaik they have some of the first examples of steamships in games
That and the literal radio in your tent
Which is a staggering leap forward in tech
🥴
There is of course some amount of leeway with whimsy, and the series is a little bit at odds with "everything should be immersive" vs "sometimes we just add goofy shit for fun and we don't want it to reflect on the overall setting"
Which is part of why I think it's kind of a mistake for them to defer so aggressively to immersion without putting any emphasis on when something is meant to be silly bullshit (though it's safe to say that if it's the result of an event quest it's not meant to reflect canon)
and Artian equipment has always been one degree away from an easter egg so it's inherited a bit of Silly Privilege
but also the setting definitely has like. electronic speakers.
the fashion show implies that microphones exist
Some of their material science and fabrication capabilities are modern bordering on futuristic in ways that aren't fully justified by them living within ecological systems containing hundreds or thousands of times more energy than our own
But ultimately this comes down to a difference in storytelling and what constitutes narrative
True, there are actually many floating palicos
I want there to be uranium
Not because it’s radioactive
But because it’s a great material for armor piercing ammunition
depleted uranium dragonator is the powerscaling inevitability
very good explanation of what to currently expect from wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds has recieved a lot of criticisms since launch but it has finally found itself in a really good place. If you're looking to play Monster Hunter for the first time, or wanting to return to Monster Hunter Wilds, now is the best time to jump in.

mhmm!
it’s very cozy and everything is nice and close together
loses a bit of the charm of running around town but it’s really nice for endgame
Think it's time to uninstall world
kinda bored of it
and yeah we haven't faced fatty but eh
it feels really good but I think I burnt myself out on Alatreon
the lack of variety really hurt me, but I didn’t find guiding lands too exciting either
we had thoughts of modding it for hilarity but idk
not worth if we're extra burnt out
maybe this is a good chance to try LS/Hammer/GL
idk tho
Nothing wrong with stepping away if you need a break tbh
Even if it's a long break, or if you're done playing altogether
our issue is space limiting our choices
[Reply to:](#1164963928531533855 message) Even if it's a long break, or if you're done playing altogether
as much as we have two drives in our laptop we don't have infinite space
The devs have experimented with how to best show off the monster at the start of a hunt and Tri is exclusively unique.
get in on the ground floor of what seems like a promising new monster hunter channel
starting off strong
(with an objectively correct observation)
tri my beloved
I love Tri so much
Moga, The Island, Lagi as a flagship, literally everything about Ceadeus and what it means to the game's narrative and themes, Loc Lac still being the most characterful and vibrant online hub they've achieved so far, the fact that they actually made darkness and torchlight an interesting strategic mechanic
swimming :)
was tri on wii?
Yep
how were the controls?
and was it 3U (or however it was called) that was on wii u and 3DS?
they released a version of it that was bundled with a Pro Controller if that explains how the controls were
ah 😭
Correct again

Expansion games were always labeled G in Japan, and they were localized as "Ultimate" for international release
You hav won internet i will try MHGU
GU <3
GU 🙂↕️
astalos gives me 2 mantles instead of hyper amped shells 😔
i want to try SnS, making the Boltreaver one
desire sensor's fucking with you, I see
( I still will be a filthy LS user)
longsword gets too much hate that should be aimed at people who insist on using it without learning the slightest bit of multiplayer etiquette 😔
i do put the decoration of not fucking up the temmate in wilds
i should check if I have one of those
I’m very much a solo hunter but will probably play more with others with AT Jin and gog being out
and the people who hate the most are the hammer mains who, upon meeting eachother, begin a circlejerk of how "it's the best weapon" and all that bullshit
the hammer mains are a simple folk. they know nothing else.
also imo the meme-stereotype of "it's the weapon you can play without thinking a lot" has been kind of disastrous to the development of its recent play culture
they unfortunately live up to it
it's all unga and bunga until you give an entire group of people implicit permission to pretend they lack critical thinking skills as a bit
that said, I love you hammer bros, but maybe help the new players dial it back a little
god am i bad at making builds in wilds, i just cant get my head around it and i cant find builds to fight arch tempered jin because all i find have the arch tempered version of the armor
We're going to RISE
!!
have fun :D
wish i could play rise or wilds but I’m traveling
they’ll be there when I get back but I really wanna give Primordial another shot
I'll be there if ya need a friend :3

Tbh regular Jin armor might be the move, it's got bind resist, the armor set bonus triggers when you break out of being frozen, and it's good good ice resistance
Spent a chunk of time getting my face kicked in with my friends last night, so I'm gonna give it a look and a whirl here and see if it helps
just bullied the absolute shit out of a tempered guardian rathalos with a longsword
poor guy :(
final time 6'40", I just kept countering and countering and he kept falling out of the sky :(((
Guardian Los is so bullyable
meanwhile I needed a Rathian Ruby last night during my chore check so I just went and beat the fucking brakes off of a Tempered Rathain
big bonks!
Hell yeah
valor LS is as fun as always, I'm glad Tempered Spirit Blade and Serene Pose can somewhat recreate it + Critical Juncture in Rise
Gods the skills in GU are so cool..
have been experimenting with layered armors instead of doing quests...
Oh excellent
That's a good look
When I'm on my computer I should drop the fit I've been going with lately
oh I gotta fitpost later too
thanks you :)
incidental screenshot of a fit I threw together last night while messing around with the talisman lotto (and a talisman I was showing a friend)
another one I use a lot
betraying the high metal set by not having the world's thickest thighs on my armor
very nice!
I'm currently in the process of making every set in the game for the sake of layered armor selection (typically the fem alpha and the masc beta, but I've fucked up a few times or made preferential picks to assemble sets; I'm selling and redoing them all when I reach them)
after taking this one I also noticed that the metal colors were mismatched between the shoulders, arms, and legs, and spent way too long getting them all identical 😔
I love the way this game handles armor, with the only exception being that I want there to be more variety in pigment zones
like there's genuinely no way to color the leather belt on this version of the Balahara waist piece
this has been my go-to fit lately
put it together a while back, but fortuitously it's a pretty good match for pretty much all of the weapons i like using regularly (Gog & Zoh swaxes, Ark GS, G.Ark GL)
I mean this very positively as I have a similar outfit they look ready to beat up the ninja turtles
Something about that waist and color just makes my brain see Shredder
and here's the build for AT Jin
gonna take another crack at it with my friends on Saturday and see how it goes
decided to forego Binding Counter in favor of running Scorcher II; stacked with Whiteflame Torrent it was doing ~100 damage per pop to AT Jin last time i tried fighting it, and frequently enough for that to be pretty significant
😳
Freely control the camera in MH Wilds!

Do y'all happen to know what greatsword this is in the screencap?
I think it's a Frontier weapon, if that helps
I've run into an interesting question I'm at a loss to answer
I joined some friends on their playthrough of World, and we eventually got to a point in Iceborne where they wanted to start on Rise
but one of them has run into an issue where they're finding Rise difficult because they relied so heavily and fundamentally on the Clutch Claw during their time in World, and they're struggling to find a gameplay alternative in Rise that I guess offers the same level of accessibility in relieving the pressure
which is leading to them being far more hesitant to play Rise in general
so I'm trying to figure out what kind of play style solution can offer something similar
but I have no experience with the clutch claw because I resent its existence, and my first playthrough of Rise happened with my brain turned off
so it's not really feasible for me to intuit a decent solution if it even exists, beyond "maybe try spamming mounts and wyvern riding?"
Have they tried zipping around with the wire bugs?
also I'm resisting the urge to start saying Immortan Joe shit about the clutch claw
Also what weapon did they main in World?
they're still getting the hang of the bugs
uhhhhhhhhhhhh hammer and dual blades primarily iirc
Well only thing I can think of is to ask them to practice with the Wire Bugs in the practice area since they'll serve as the survival crutch here.
What with being able to go into the air and Wire Dodge off the ground
yee
Once they have a feel for the buttons it should help
That or they play like Lance and go full turtle, which is also valid
I'd imagine Insect Glaive might also be good for the sake of mounting
True, though asking them to learn a new weapon at the same time may be slightly daunting
they've got some experience with it as well, and I know they're curious about it
Rise good
Wirebugs are really really good survival tools once you learn how to use em
Some of the wirebug abilities are also uhhh
insane
god yeah
I didn't get super deep into them since I settled on my Switch Axe Win Buttons and just blasted through everything on instinct, but they seem like they're at least as ridiculous as Hunter Arts
(that's another reason why I'm revisiting the game from scratch)
A lot of them are basically just Hunter Arts
Noteworthy: Swaxe is widely considered at its most fun in Rise from what I hear
In stark contrast to Hunting Horn
consider also: hunting horn can breakdance in rise
From what I understand that was of little comfort to the HH mains
And then HH made the transition to wilds and all was good in the world again
Rise LS is also crazy
Counter the world
Anyways
RE: reliance on clutch claw
How exactly were they relying on it? (I have not used clutch claw before)
I'm guessing they used it to stunlock monsters with the launch
nah HH was great in rise imo
i don't like slower HH, prefer actually hitting vs. sitting there playing songs on the side
more movement helped positioning too
Sunbreak switch skills for it are pretty cool
I'm unfortunately not too educated on Horning in Rise so I'm mostly repeating what I've heard :b
HH is what i mained in Rise because its not old HH
but i am a filthy Dual Blades user so that may influence my opinion greatly
I think the thing that convinced me to play Sunbreak was actually seeing an endgame DB build that was physically unable to die
And then I played charge blade
it issss
my biggest gripe with LS is that the basic combo to generate spirit is really bad (i know you're not supposed to use it often), and i ended up really liking it in Wilds because it upgrades it
Rise is still my favorite game tho
We patiently await Wilds PC optimization so we can play it again..
Some has already happened.
Y'know, I wouldn't mind if Bleed stopped coming back
Rise HH is essentially it's own variant/fork of normal Hunting Horn.
update: they love rise hunting horn and also khezu
Should i stay with the LS in wilds or change for a bit ?
playing different weapons is fun if you want to experiment! you might want to start with easier monsters as a warm up though
what are you thinking of trying?
Picking DB or CB back or trying GL
GL in wilds is fun
So is DB
I don't like that Savage axe is the best way to play CB in wilds though..
Feels wrong
I want to play CB in rise, my build is very mediocre and I have trouble keeping up with the monsters, but it's such a cool weapon
I've been really tempted to go back to rise and work more on my secondaries but the couple minute time gap between my db times and my sns times are a bit disheartening.
... it's probably also partially because I've been using almost entirely aggro skills on db and actually bothered taking guard skills on sns though
i'll probazbly just farm gore and make a version of the weapon i find cool
some, but i still get a full 10 seconds worth of the game freezing midhunt
they just did not make this game well
fighting jin is better than before, gog is a little shaky but I can tell it's a bit better now
still hurts to look at after a hunt or two 😔
i forfor how fun the CB is
It's even more "wait for your opening to swing big" than GS if you're going for SAED, but you can also play Savage Axe and stay fairly mobile with the wirebug skills
I'm sure your build can get up to par, it's using a lot of the same stuff as other kit if I remember right
Actually Este, how far are you into Sunbreak?
fairly postgame, I think I'm done all of the MR10 urgents
around MR 150-160 and ~AR 200? but I've only started putting together meta builds in the past 10-15 hours lol

Ah okay, just have to farm and fight Risens then
Which is..
Hard
I've heard
That's where I am too! (Though lower MR and AR)
Oh yeah I can do a couple :3
and yeah risens are a goal,.,. just working on making the armour and weapons I can access atm, and doing anomaly 🙂↕️
awesome!
i do love anomaly for having endgame variety 🥹 it's great
I will happily do some anomaly stuff since I've gotta get my rank up
😌
hey hi hello
it's uh
been a bit longer and we haven't heard anything..
we're actually gonna head to bed now if that's okay .-.
sorry, i got sidetracked and just got out of the shower, I really should have said something before I stepped in
no problem
another time!
mhm! sorry again 🙇
Is all good
Finding a new fun weapon is good and all but i kinda need to redo my build
fucked around
Here's the template, and here's where I got the icons (resizing them to 35% makes them fit cleanly, if you don't want to resize the entire image)

I didn't see a thing
Title Update 4 for Monster Hunter Wilds, the "final" title update, just dropped and it introduced the long awaited Elder Dragon Gogmazios. This boss is incredible, but after beating it for the first time, I had to ask myself if it was better than Fatalis, Amatsu, Malzeno, Safi, Nergigante, The Magalas, and the other great dragon fights we've got...
gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog gog
I think this is a cool break down of not just Gog, but also the gameplay themes of Wilds.
no please no
YES PLEASE YES
I'm hoping for Bazel myself
And I hope they do what they did with Rise and just completely shadowdrop him again
you don't even know he's in the game until the strings start up
You're in the middle of a Seregios hunt or something and then you hear it
That old violin sting
Hunter who started with wilds: “Hey, what’s that noise?”
Veteran hunter: “…oh stars NOT AGAI-“
kaboom
As much as I appreciate The Goose, the only jumpscare violin sting that exists in my heart is Jho's 🙏
though what would be really funny is something in the opposite direction
party crasher who digs instead of flying
It’s the B52 again
Deviljho used to do exactly this 😔
Though it was much more common for him to just walk, but sometimes he'd spawn by digging in
we could always get a new crab who's also an invader :)
i've been keeping an eye out for a used copy of MHGU as a gift for my partner (not without ulterior motive, as i'll be sharing her Switch when we move in together). tonight i not only broke lucky, but broke luckier than i was expecting

i already had 4U so this kinda completes the trifecta of 3DS era games
yesssssss
Nice!
I'll confess that I'm biased because a lot of the old community culture before World was strengthened by people bonding over mutual suffering, but I think there's something positive about there being one or two dogshit hunts that suck and are awful
Everyone bonds over hating Cephadrome's fucking existence
Everyone bonds over dreading Plesioth's truthful hips
Plesioth my beloathed
I'm an unironic Wilds Expansion Plesioth Truther
The brought back Gogmazios already so this is genuinely my only ask
I loved grinding Dalamadur with the gang tbh
we got it down to really fast completely mindless runs and just ground through it and kitted everyone out
I still can't play Wilds i don't think so honestly i have no stake in this
I really hope they clean it up so more people can play
I'm running a 2060 dawg it was like 10-15 fps or less at absolute minimum potato graphic when i tried the game demos
I had pre-puechased it actually but i ended up refunding cause i knew it was gonna be straight unplayable
I also really hope they learn that they don't need to keep chasing graphical fidelity that they're clearly incapable of competently delivering on
It doesn't even look better than World imo
They hit devastating diminishing returns on that one
It does, but only if you have a supercomputer. The fidelity is so fragile that anything but max graphics and perfectly configured gamma just completely fucks it.
That's how going for graphics works, sadly
You don't really need to get any better than that yeah
If anything I'd appreciate going lower like Rise did
I'd honestly say that something between Rise and World would be the perfect happy medium for the rest of the franchise's existence
If you can't make a game look good withthat level if graphics that is a pure fucking skill issue
Get better art direction
also like
Wilds technical investments are just really really poorly planned and allocated
I honestly don't fw Rise art style so much but it might just be cause i don't really fw Rise way of doing world design
it's not so much a failure of optimization as it is Yandere Dev levels of processing waste
The maps really killed it for me a bit
Mostly cause of World
If i had to put it into words, every hunt in Rise felt like doing an arena hunt in World
you don't need two hundred fuckbillion tris on a destructible setpiece that disappears into shitty looking transparency dithering when the camera gets close enough to see the detail
jesus christ
Not necessarily a fault of the game cause Rise wasn't trynna be so worldbuildy and ecological like World
But i'm fucking spoiled after having played World
Everything felt so believable in that game
You could fr just hunt monsters by looking at the map and thinking where their habitat might be
I'd really love to see the portable and mainline series swap themes for one generation. Gritty mainline zero-to-godkiller story about some upstart from a village in the middle of nowhere. Flashy portable story about an accomplished badass joining a special ecological guild commission.
Rise i think had more dynamic and fun moment to moment gameplay but the believable environment aspect of World just hits different
Eh, fair.
Rise is designed to be picked up and put right back down whereas world is designed to be the peak immersive monster hunter experience for the time
They both have their appeals
Rise feels like it's missing the hunting part so you're just kinda doing a boss fight
Which again, not bad in any way
World and Wilds are admittedly the ones that differ from that the most out of all the monster hunter games
Those two broke that traditional more arcady gameplay loop
I just fw the focus on worldbuilding and ecology in World
I've been picking up Rise again lately and it does lean a bit too hard in the arcade direction for my liking, even for a portable title
Yeah i'm kind of aware of that
Yeah that was my feel
I still need to go kill Primordial
Wilds seems like it's Fucking Terrified of making the player wait for anything ever
That's kinda why they're popular though, I can't ever fault it
Oh uh
Unless it's progressing low rank story
I'm kinda done with World entirely now which is a bit sad
The gratification of the gameplay loop is super broken, at least in my experience
But i got my hours out of it
god the state of low rank in that game
Me and my friends did a run of the whole game
I understand why it's the way that it is, I understand and respect the rationale of turning the story into a tutorial, but like
can the monsters fight back before the credits roll please
Fatalis was such a cool and scary monster to fight
iceborne had such good elders
We had to like
Alas..
I feel it unfair to expect that from the inevitable next MR expansion
I'm keeping my expectations of wilds at a modest "I hope the game runs"
I'm super curious how Wilds is going to handle elders
Prep to the max, gear up with the best armor and weapons we could get, and have game plans and shit for what parts to target to beat Fatalis
Gog has always been a siege, so I'm not surprised it became one again
Killing it felt like a proper accomplishment
We had to learn it properly and target specific parts and know what attacks were instakills and shit
I doubt the others will be sieges?
I'd love to fight a big sand whale near the start of MR though
That'd be cool
It would fit so well.
And you already have models for sandships ready to go
and I'm biased and a little brainrotten from my hours upon hours of grinding it with randos in Tri
They might drop in Shagaru, given Gore is in the game already
As if we don't know
I wonder what the wilds experience is like for someone who's never played MonHun before and does like
No research
They focused a lot on that, I feel
character looks directly into the camera: I wonder if there's a stronger source of Frenzy that could more conclusively destabilize the Dragontorch
(I never actually got to fight gore because the fight before it crashed the game constantly)
Something I'm really hoping for with Wilds is that Elders actually become local ecological threats who need to be driven off in order to restore the regular functions of a given biome
That'd be a neat way to use the weather system
Like hey, a Teostra is just living in your Windward Plains now. Stuff isn't spawning, gathering and farming are worse, the weather sucks. It's going to stay there until you scare it off or kill it.
I really wanna see how IG and DB feel properly in Wilds
I played like 10-15 mins of the demo with DB i think but i didn't get a real feel for it
iirc the weapons have all been adjusted a good amount since the demo
I haven't touched either in Wilds 😔
At the start I don't think IG could jump anymore
They changed that back, thankfully
Also used hammer and switch axe a fair bit but i don't like Switch Axe in World
DB got some cool perfect dodge stuff though
I used it for like a third of my groups world run and i did not like it for about all od that time
as someone who's maining Switch Axe in World: yeah.
As someone who's used it in Wilds: I'm sorry
Tbf i also am a bit of a movement enjoyer so it was just too stationary for me
Whiffing like 70% of my big moves
Also i'm a bit of a brainlet so DB having like two buttons i need to press and no complex combos went hard
Reminds me
My friend beat Rise by dodge spamming with bow
I enter a fugue state driven by muscle memory and hitbox visualization
I have never once visualized a hitbox
I dln't even know the moves of like any monster except fatalis
I fight on pure instinct
oh it's mainly just "is that actually going to hit me where I'm standing or can I keep attacking"
a bit late to the discussion, but yeah, World looks great enough even on lower settings
one thing wilds does really well imo is when the sunrise hits (especially in the Scarlet Forest), it's a stunning burst of colour
but it's a bit tough to appreciate when everything else looks grainy and rotating the camera hurts
I don't even do that lol
I also started messing with a 1st person mod with Wilds, as well as turning off the camera proximity culling, and god damn the environments in that game are actually really pretty if you have any reason to look at them from any perspective that isn't Optimal Gameplay Camera Angle
I'm a persistance hunter ngl
Out of my friends i was by far the least efficient and skilled hunter and boasted the slowest kill times
I tend to run a lot of healing skills to make up for it
Speed eating, vitality, divine blessing, that sorta thing
fun is the most important part, I fucked around and got my ass handed to me for thousands of hours before I started tightening my gameplay at all
And I still prefer to just go full comfort
speed eating is actually excellent for sustained damage if you know when to heal and how fast it'll be, and you can just heal in the monster's face during the telegraph of an attack that you know will miss
The drip was absolutely immaculate tho
sublime
Couldn't have cooked harder if i tried
I've gotta get my friends back into World to clean up the last handful of challenges
I wanna farm Raging Brachy stuff :)
oh shit that's right I need to pick up Buff Body and Buffer Body
I do like buff body
Wilds you know you want to give us Buff Body.
Gonna have fun remaking Hemmia for the second time in Wilds when i eventually get around to playing it
Unless i can still port my data from the demo or whatever
Or world
I can't remember how that worked exactly
Might do a 4U run with my friends so she's getting backported to that also prolly
You should be able to!
Cool
I made Hemmia for World originally but i became rather fond of her so i decided she'd be my Hunter proxy
Wilds has a really solid character creator
Yeah i did see that in the Demo
Alas i will be recreating Hemmia exactly as she was
Or at least as close as i can get
Rise didn't have her tattoos so i had to improvise
https://m.youtube.com/@ModServer12min?sub_confirmation=1
*This mod is not mine nor did I have a part in its development, this video is purely a showcase, also note that the music is relayered on top in editing for quality and seamlessness sake as the regular ported theme kind of...
what the fuck
da boi
MY WIFE HAS BEEN MENTIONED
Getting into Wilds With A Friend
do you think CB can take advantage of elemental weakness ?
"turns out dodogama can eat wylk and they've just been chowing the fuck down on the wyrmway"
"they're not even guardians or anything, just regular natural creatures, but they were outcompeted for minerals by Gravios, so they realized they could eat wylk uncontested, and it's starting to become a problem"
"the Zoh Shi is in a corner, malnourished because of it"

I wonder how many Dodogama it would take to clean up Zoh Shia before it can regenerate
dodogama will give diabetes to the arkveld
Finally
https://youtube.com/shorts/3JKpcLUuRJw?si=1Pin-0DkhU2mcjQy dodogama be like
why this nerscylla has lazer beams ?
fuck she got me
i'll return to more sensible fight like the railgun dragon or the explosive monkey
a lazer spider pfft
Were you doing the Omega quest?
laser spider + laser spider
me fighting the fake nerscylla: hey I think there's something wrong with this dog
☝️ 🤓 Um, actually, Rey Dau wouldn't be considered a railgun, as it doesn't propel a solid projectile via electromagnetic force. In actuality, it more closely resembles a plasma cannon, or a directed energy weapon.

I wen to speak ro my guy ronin and went to fight a Nerscylla with a Lascanon (probally yes. Was just fighting the nercylla)
I'll come back to it with the Sergio CB
I run gore armor for the Fury boost
went and checked what skills Korria had compared to Hemmia for the end of her run and yeah
her armor is way more optimized
pretty much as many offensive and defensive skills i could fit on
armor doesn't look half bad either
i do gotta go back and finish Iceborne at some point
maybe now that Wilds is nearing the end of the base game cycle and we've got a few months of content lull there
adjusting to the differences in the Switch Axe is going to be weird tho
helped someone do Raging Brachy
was nice
they carted twice but we locked in for the final phase and managed to kill it
it's prolly the armor doing most of the work but i'm happy i didn't cart
o7
🙏
I should get back into World
I finally got back onto the Iceborne grind the other night and took care of Kirin and Rajang, thinking about grinding Raging Brachy for gear
Sadly I'll have to make a new build just for him since I'm running Blast
Wilds is so fun lmao
hehehe Sword Dancer Killing Things
A+ drip
Thank you!
