#Monster Hunter
1 messages · Page 20 of 1
if you want co-op gambing i could make a new character and speedrun MR with a weapon I've never used
for the true shitter experience
I mean I'm about to hunt I think Pink Rathian so probably not the optimal experience lmao
understandable
i will play greatsword for the first time in twelve years and constantly try (and whiff) TCS
like every good greatsword player
I mean if you wanna do it, your funeral lmao
I'll be in IPS-N
I'll be like half an hour, out at lunch, but this gives me a glorious excuse to play world again
it's been too many months
lol
I HAVE SO MUCH FUCKING SAUCE WITH THE LONGSWORD LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

urgh ,, i need a couple more velk mats for the greaves to get ice attack 5 for the velk dbs, which are the only dbs i really have rn
my last hunt not the most fun fight with LS, not sure what else i should try
I also need the MR Valstrax gem for the LS, which has almost triple the dragon element of the gaismagorm one i've been using, along with 25 more crit and 30 less raw
which will make malzeno drop like a brick hopefully
I think I'm mainly going to be using the longsword, light bowgun, sword and shield, and the bow
I think I need a diff bow tho lol
And its ironic lack of ammo variety hurts mah soul
I will be taking two hunting horns
If I don't need two hunting horns i genuinely don't know what other weapon I'll take
i'm gonna be going swaxe or hammer depending on my mood and LBG, i think
idk what ill do yet
im disappointed that sns got basicly nothing
it got what timed blocks?
and thats it?
I'm probably going LS And HBG if i can make some mutated armor set
Hunting horn yo huff my dbs yep yep
I could see doing like greatsword as a secondary specifically for wakeup attacks after sleep if you don't wanna capture 🤔
Wait is Wilds letting you take two weapons?
Yeah
…huh
You can switch them on your Seikret mount
i mean, perfect guards and ripostes are fucking huge
as an sns main, i'm extremely satisfied with that
would i have enjoyed a deranged entirely new moveset whipped up like gunlance?
yeah
i'm not complaining though
i think sns could have been given unique slinger stuff
You have one equipped, and one on your mount you can swap to any time you're mounted. Mounting mid combat is very easy, etc
What’s funny is the gear preparedness is what I went to the ranged weapons for lol
Cuz at the time my mechanical skill was
Lackin
😔
I mean my mechanical skill is fine now lol
The bow definitely feels like it has a balance of preparedness vs mechanical knowledge
But it doesn’t really satisfy me in the way either the light bowgun or melee weapons do
Are lance and gunlance getting mounted combat stuff?
every weapon has basic mounted attacks, though generally you're going to want to be on foot to have access to your full kit
tragically no Seikret-back jousting moves for lance/gunlance that i'm aware of
no true mounted combat - you can do hit and run attacks on the mount, but it's very much a way to hit something while it's moving zones, not an actual fighting technique
sadge
i am not sure why you'd expect otherwise, tbh
would mounted combat be a tangential design space that would end up overly complicating the game? probably yes
would it be incredibly awesome? also yes
I mean I think I was more hoping than expecting and also like
It's a lance
Which irl (I know, stupid justification for MH stuff)
Is a mounted weapon
Fair enough
I'm terminally game designer brained, so you say something like mounted combat!!! And instead of my brain being "that'd be cool!" Its off figuring out how you could justify that layer of mechanical complexity etc.
So apologies if I came off harsh
ur fine lol
Victory for penguin!
Reckon I'll go for HH and longsword
Have options to stun and slice, and buff myself as well
I'll probably just end up using Hammer most of the time like in world, maybe splashing in HH or Swaxe too
At least in my first playthrough
No trailer tonight
But perhaps it's not far off regardless at least, there ought to be one more big one before launch
I'm about to hunt geuse for the first time, pray for me
🙏

It is a wonderful morning in Ancient Forest, and you are horrible giant geuse
I have acquired the bazelgeuse longsword and coil
drip
This is probably because I’m using longsword and sns after light bowgun, but the game feels much easier
sword go schwing-boom
I should give bows another try...
and maybe IGs a try at all
IG is very fun.
IG is fun yeah
Become the helicopter of your dreams
shred monsters with high octane maneuvers
get a bug
Just noticed this. If you are a shitter then I am the fossil since I have over 700 (almost 800) hours on World xD
lmao
Amateurs
I'm very proud of my drip
To the point I'm upgrading them instead of making new armor most of the time lol
Rathian helmet a, hunter's mail a, lavasioth gauntlets b, bazel coil a, and kulu ya-ku boots b
I think the only ones I have left to upgrade rn are the helmet and boots
ganked by the worst kitty
Cool, massive waste of resources cuz I lost lmao
oh well I'll grind my insect glaives and kinsect
I fuckin did it

I went from failing after getting carted three times before I could make him limp
To failing after I got him to go to his nest
To winning without getting carted or palico rez'd
hell yeah
Wish Vaal was a better fight
Effluvium is either instant game over or completely ignorable depending on ONE skill
i just nullberry it away tbh
base fight's pretty easy but i haven't tried blackveil yet
Blackveil is dope
Blackveil is conceptually really cool but has way too much health, it's just such a wall
Kushala can suck my copious balls and ass
The only reason I didn't first try
is the fucking wind
Not even lke
him setting up with it to combo me
It wasting time
Kushala is so fucking ass
Tempered kushala is genuinely one of the worst fights in the game
Tempered Kushala Daora is such a cursed fight
World Kushala is such payne. I've been told that Rise Kushala is better made at least. (Gonna have to check that myself in da future.)
Rise kushala is much better, yes
a gauss of magnet spikes
Some of these are more fitting than others lol
me and my son
God that Bazel longsword is sexy
It is the sexiest sword in the game imo
feels the urge to greatsword slander
I personally think the Greatswordfish is the best looking xD
now iceborne
First deviljho hunt successful, he has been added to the zoo
hell yeah
I am going to hunt another one
and make it into gloves
and then
then
I start Iceborne
Deviljho axe was my choice of main for base endgame. it's really good
carried me through the elder dragons and Xeno'jiva into the tempered hunts
Huh, didn't realize you could access Deviljho before Xeno, guess I didn't think about it since the patch dropped after game launch
oh yeah, the quest unlocks fairly early on in HR
which is a bit busted since any amount of Handicraft gets you white sharpness. but i'm not complaining 😊
Plus they have some of the best raw in HR once you counter the negative affinity
Which is funny since the Fatalis weapons have the same thing going on, it's almost like a theme or something
I have turned xeno'jiiva into a belt
But have you turned its ass into a hat?
HUNTING TWO BAZELGEUSE IS SO FUCKING STRESSFUL
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
How fucked am I if I start Iceborne without having my weapons maxed out?
My armor is pretty high up there
Not really bad tbh. Beginner Iceborne isn't THAT big of a powercreep.
Though I knew a few newb players who struggled against Nargacuga and/or Barioth so you might want to prepare for them.
But they are midgame anyway
I need a bazelgeuse gem and more xeno'jiiva mats before my longsword is fully up there
and tbh I only rly care about that and my sns being full up before IB
and my sns is
your gonna get new weapons at the start anyways
I started Iceborne with basically just barely post game gear. No augments or anything. It's pretty easy to tackle the first couple of master rank quests with anything that beats Xeno, or you can sidetrack to beat up basic MR monsters
as basicly your iceborne stuff beats your postgame gear
very quickly
and because most post game stuff is late monsters you won't be able to upgrade them until far into iceborne
Barioth is the first real "oh shi-" check
I mean most of my weapons have upgrade trees continuing into Iceborne
All of them I think actually
yeah but your xenojiva and bazel weapons are gonna be outdone pretty quickly and you wont be able to reupgrade them for a good while
yeah, it's well worth grabbing a MR basic weapon as they're going to outperform even top-tier HR weapons
fair nuff
Once you beat Barioth though you can do the 50 shades of white event quest and get the guild palace weapons, at least, which are awesome

what the fuck
Please don't have a star wars crossover, I can't handle that discourse
its actually a tasteful and kinda cool video ngl
good intro
Nice! I remain worried for an eventual crossover event 😅
I really like the tiny wyverian tailor
But what if Star Wars Crossover and it becomes 100% canon to both franchises and every MH after has the Force while ever SW after has MH gear crafting
WE COULD HUNT A RANCOR!
"Hunters exist to balance to ecosystem"
Rriiiiight.
Balance.
Yeah.
Slowly pushes away pile of magnamalo corpses I farmed for plates
Rancor sounds like a worse pickle fight fr.
Give us the big dragon from tatooine or something cooler
Pickle but BIG ARMS, LITTLE LEGS
Krait Dragon from Mandalorian and we fight it on a sand ship
a rancor would just be Greatest Chatacabra
A more upright rajang

I thankfully have found master rank replacements for all my armor from high rank
save a master rank rathian helmet
YEAH FOOD FROM CAT GRANDMA
Also my bazel sword is fiiiine
Can I permanently make Serious Handler my handler or nah?
No
Regrettably
16 seconds · Clipped by Alaen · Original video "Something About Monster Hunter World: Iceborne ANIMATED (Loud Sound Warning) ❄️🐟" by TerminalMontage
literally me rn
I'm such a lesbian
I'm always a bit surprised at how much people hate the Handler in World
Theres a really good phrase i like from tehsnakeker when it comes to charcters "be an idiot on the way and not in the way"
Well yeah I'm not gonna deny the critiques it's just the amount of hate she gets that I'm surprised by, just seemed a tad disproportionate
it's because it's constant, inescapable, and contrasted by both previous games and lea
who don't suck in the way she does
she also doesn't really have any charm to her
isn't she really popular in Japan? or am I thinking of a different contentious character in some other game
I think I've heard that she is
I think she's written as a character archetype (dojikko) that plays better in Japan than outside of it
I never particularly had an issue with the way she's written, though. She's an overenthusiastic goof, the same as a lot of other members of the research commission
I find it charming
I performatively play up my dislike of her a bit, but I really don't like her personally
I'll admit I'm not thrilled to have an npc following us around in wilds
she's just really annoying
she's annoying in both voice and personality, is implied to be hypercompetent but only in ways that are never actually displayed, and a lot of cutscenes are "handler stands slack-jawed at a monster that then almost eats her"
I never hated her, but I find her a little off-putting. Iceborne's story feels weird because it's really about her and her grandpa...but since eveyone in these games is a cipher, and she wanders off on her own to study the ship etc. it kind of feels like the plot is happening in a different game
She’d be so much more effective as a member of ecological research…
probably, yeah
I’m still annoyed we don’t get to know her (or a lot of other characters’) actual name
it's just Leah, right?
as far as "world-original characters whose names we learn" go
Yeh
Tried to hunt Xeno'jiiva to get some wing drops, nbd right? I only need two
No wings
Agony
desire sensor real
I have achieved the full planned drip
rathian master helm and belt, banboro chest, kulu master gauntlets and greaves
3 of our group of 5 made it to Grank in MHGU yesterday.
Wow narkarkos needs some more beef
Because we uh, Really really did not respect that monsters threat which is a bummer because I wanted it to last another 10 minutes, By the third hunt we never even saw it enraged.
I also got sad because I was looking up why to use tranq bombs and I uncovered an unfufilled hope of the past on a reddit thread
"I hope they beef up the HP in the next game for Narkarkos!"-9 years ago
I hope you found a new dream redditor of the past.
d r i p
Fashion Hunter achieved
I just noticed the grammeowster chef's babushka scarf has the Guild symbol on it
That's so fucking cute
indeed
Blah, I need to get back to Iceborne, I haven't had time to play in like a week
Nightshade Paolumu is calling me
And after that, my revenge match against Barioth
I'm also on Barioth lol
Haven't tried him yet tho
He's tough, though in fairness I think the reason he walled me last time I tried Iceborne was because I was trying to hunt him with a HR weapon instead of a MR weapon
I don't remember what I was hunting with but it was probably not as good as the Bazel LS; I've been a lot better about unlocking the weapon tree this time around
Either way, best of luck! Break the forelegs and watch out for those hip checks
I'm considering trying Hunting Horn
Let me know if you need any pointers. I may have a vested interest
World HH is pretty fun, though I didn't try it much with the Iceborne additions
Iceborne HH is something I'm conflicted on
It's great on paper but in practice has some issues
Mostly just that the echo spin is overtuned so the best thing to do is just spam that a lot of the time
Yeah that's what I heard
I do like that echo spin provided an opportunity for status/ele horns to shine, but it just also did too much damage
Though tbf I'm over here constantly using the swaxe's axe mode so clearly I don't care about optimal damage output 😛
If it did a bit less, Iceborne HH would've been pretty close to perfect imo
Except for not having MHGU double notes
I mean I’m out here using an HR longsword so ur in good company
I feel like I just need a new weapon to grind for and HH seems fun
Might be too slow for my taste
self improvement makes you really nimble, honestly, at least for a big weapon
Yeah, you've got the fastest foot speed of any weapon
Okay given how buffs are named in monhun idk if you mean that’s an armor buff or are saying ‘git gud’ in a nice way lol
"Self Improvement" is the name of a song every hunting horn gets. it buffs your damage slightly, improves your move speed, and gives you Minds Eye (no weapon bounces)
Ahhhh
It’s kinda bonkers
it is, you're right, an awkwardly literal name 😅
'I've really been working on myself.' /chaotic honking
"my new years resolution is to focus on self improvement"
🎷 🎶 🎷 🎵 🎷
I think some hunting horns that have another song that boosts your movement speed?
And they stack
I thought that was playing SI twice
There's an echo attack that puts down a temporary zone on the ground; if you run through it you get a buff to your movespeed and evade window for a bit
Oh also to clarify when I said slow I meant attack speed
I’m used to longsword and sns
HH isn't too slow
It's about as fast or maybe faster than hammer
Feels comparable to something like swaxe
Recitals are kind of high-commitment animation-wise, I remember struggling with that a bit
You have to find the right openings for them
They definitely are, although you can actually do a lot by roll-canceling a neutral recital if you don't need the buff -- the initial swing does good damage and amazing KO
I also always tried to encore even when I shouldn't have 😛
Overcommitting to combos is a habit I'm trying to break
Oh I've been entirely misunderstanding how monster damage is visualized
The grey scarring denotes weak points not parts about to break
I am
So very, very dumb
I think those are parts that are already broken
BARIOTH FIRST TRY LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I. AM SIMPLY. BUILT! FUCKING! DIFFEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENT!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Barioth fucking SUCKS to fight in world, so kudos to you!!!
I just wished frostfang was just non event and a normal monster
It's so much more enjoyable then normal one
Yo look at this kickass Huntsman skin I found
you skinned him??!
HELL YEAH GET ITS ASS
I have been finding that a lot of World hunts that I'm psyching myself out for have actually been, if not exactly easy, then at least more straightforward than I'm expecting
I think the most I struggled in high rank was taking 3-4 tries on Nergigante and 3 tries on Teostra
Otherwise it was largely smooth sailing
I think I've finally managed to click with the game and what it's expecting from me
I need to another crack at iceborne during my EOY vacation. I took a couple weeks off and completely lost my flow right before the new elder dragons.
I'm aiming to beat Iceborne by the time Wilds comes out
Which shouldn't be too hard given that there's still two and a half months to go, but complicated by the fact that I'm planning to play through Dark Souls for the Return to Lordran event in January
I think I'm finally like
'good'
At this game lol
Cuz I've graduated from upgrading my armor and weapons on a single track to like
being picky
and having multiple sets of drip XD
including the two big bois?
Dunno! We'll see how far I can get in the time that I have. But definitely at least to the end of the story quests
Use traps, use bombs. Flash pods. Dont chase, barioth comes to you
Welcome to the Monster Hunter Wilds - Pre-Launch Community Update, where the Community Team are joined by special guest and Monster Hunter Wilds director, Yuya Tokuda, to discuss the improvements and adjustments coming to the game for launch on February 28th.
In this pre-recorded stream, hear about the key areas the team are focused on, includ...
It started at 8:45 so they could have a 15 minute buffer window for everyone to get on by 9
It's funny but also not a bad notion
Dang, no trailer, just info on changes after the open beta test and some info on weapon skills
oo, what'd they say about weapon skills?
a lot of it was just "there will be value adjustments" but there was a bit more detail about how insect glaive is getting more aerial gameplay back, lance charge counter can be initiated quickly from most other moves, and the bow focus move that locks onto weak points now does them sequentially rather than all at once so they're not just stealing them from everyone else
ahh, so more about the movesets than the new skill system?
They did talk briefly about the skills on weapons
Mainly that weapons you upgrade in the same tree keep the skill they have
i.e. the Hope weapons will all keep the skills they have when you first get them as you upgrade them
It just gets better or you get another skill
The implication being that all weapon trees have different skill set ups (at least to a degree)
Meaning we likely won't be able to affect what a weapon gets beyond upgrading to a new weapon tree for a different set up but we'll see
Huh, interesting
I mean I suppose that'll be incentive to branch out into weapon trees that aren't just optimal damage
it'll be interesting to see how exclusive weapon and armor skills, how much weapons go beyond strict damage skills, etc. Like, are weapons the only way to get critical eye now? Will a fully upgraded weapon get all five* levels?
(*someone posted a screenshot showing that it's a 5 level skill now)
Hm, we should probably expect fewer levels from all weapon skills since they have fewer upgrade tiers to gain before there's a hard cap

Frostfang is dope
Barioth my beloathed
Trying to think of my least favorite monster
Old school metal raths sucked pretty bad
hip check flashbacks
As someone who's only really played World Blackveil easily takes the cake as the most obnoxious monster in my experience
Am I allowed to declare it to be Zorah Magdaros?
Oh yeah its for sure Zorah for me actually
I'd rather fight 20 old school metal rather than Zorag Magdaros once
Even when fighting the Morhan's back in 4U at least fighting a gant sand whale on a sand ship is cool
I hate fighting. Yan garuga
I hate bouncing
I don't like angry Chicken
It has both wind effects and sound And poison
Crazy Chicken Dragon
I love deadeye
Tigrex' hitboxes are so fucking borked lol
gootse :)
I got help to beat velk lmao
👀 if you need help with the seether, feel free to give me a ring
dunno if I'll be available when you do
But I'll try to be
I HAVE HUNTED THE GEUSE
THE GEUSE IS NO LONGER LOOSE
ALSO
FUCK
FUCK
SAVAGE DEVILJHO
MOTHERFUCKER!!!
BAZELGEUSE LOOONGSWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
longsword best sword (besides greatsword and swaxe sword)
I'm sorry DBros and SnSbros
Man
You didn't even acknowledge charge blade
What about cbs?
oh right i forgot it has a sword
mmm red blade
Because I don't use it lol
Also I have hunted it twice since
Got carted first time
ran out of time just before trapping it the second
very annoyed lol
That much was obvious lol
We were replying to Andy anyways
I am what some might call
extremely smart
I am being tricked by this armor set into hunting my least favorite monster
diablos
The fucker
i don't really want to hunt velk for the mantle, but I want it for the greaves for ice attack 5 :(
maybe i could just give up some deco slots
and go for primordial malzeno stuff
If anyone's needing help on PC iceborne/MHW I'd be glad to help out today
Blackveil Vaal can suck my ass lmao
investigate that shit
i gotta get up to savage jho, the jho swaxe is my bazel longsword
...barioth first, though
I need to get a bazelgeuse mantle first lol
Which
Is proving challenging
you can do it! i believe in you!
||Acidic Glavenus|| hunting horn was my favorite before any updates
I keep dying in the arena event quest to fight it lol
Pain
one thing that i think is a missed opportunity in World and that i hope gets a bit more in Wilds is playing around with the status phials on switch axe
"your weapon has status buildup but only in sword mode" is a potentially interesting design space! unfortunately you only get poison phial on the ore tree and paralysis phial on the barroth tree. no other options
But what about Exhaust Phial?
that is on a grand total of two trees iirc (Jagras and Brute Tigrex)
idk maybe i just have a fondness for silly ideas but i look at a monster like viper kadachi and feel like it's a bit of a shame that this didn't result in some kind of poison/paralysis combo weapon
Frontier had dual element/status weapons all over the place, they need to bring it back
Jagras Swaxe was unironically pretty good in base world
i've yet to give exhaust phial a go. seems like it could be interesting, but given that i off-main hammer it's a bit like... why don't i just use that instead 😛
cutting + impact damage is quite nice
tru
i'm only just now emerging from the "power phial or bust" meta blinders mindset so i'm still experimenting a bit with what other phial types can pull off
Shoutout to @havik1049 and @SRTan from @OuroborosHunters for teaming up with us! Also thanks to Aaldia and Mink for helping to playtest this strategy.

Blackveil continues to be a certified ass
Is Namielle at least easier than Vaal?
I'd consider it more fair
given most of how I died was
effluvium
I'll take it
my main issue was
my playstyle revolves around All Engaging, All the Time
And Vaal, thanks to the effluvium, necessitates disengaging
nami requires a lot of consciousness of spacing
Even then you can just
Superman dive the nuke
Lord knows I do it enough with AT Nami
I was so suprised how big of a difference in power there is between AT Namielle and AT Velk
It's a night and day difference
In what way?
AT Namielle felt kinda like just like Tempered namielle. Not really a jump in noticeable Difficulty and I couldn't really differentiate the fights
Whereas AT Velk is like Ala/Fat level. I feel how significantly pumped it is compared to Tempered velk
AT Namielle felt a bit "shrug/I guess". I would have loved more
Yeah, gotcha
I agree fwiw. Namielle is a monster that I feel like, as a fight, doesn't really live up to how awesome it's design is
Part of me wanted a disorienting Malfestio sort of debuff to be part of the equation, like a disorienting light show in the darkness, reminiscent of its intro cutscene
But instead we just got like. Water dragon with some electricity. Feels like a lot of missed potential. Especially when the elevator pitch is so fucking cool
Like, bioluminescent vampire squid dragon? God that sounds so cool. But alas
For me by far the biggest disappoint of world monster wise was ||ruiner nergigante||
he was featured so much in cutscenes and shit but then its just a kinda piss easy monster that is like 98% of its base with nothing really new or cool
esp as the MR 100 unlock
Yeah I can get behind that
At velk will just one shot you through Fatalis armor unless you stack the shit out of ice res
I simply did not get hit
Savage Jho: Hunter Time...
Cracks Neck
Maybe my first hunt being a 35 minute investigation was not the best choice
-# but not its own
I'd be down to help out later on if you're on PC
I mean it's fine lol
I just did it mostly to have something other than an expedition to get research progress
I'm so happy we are in the age of crossplay now for most games
I am on pc lol
No longer will I need to look saddly on my friend who has world only on their playstation
oh yeah i'm really looking forward to playing Wilds with my PS5-only friend
hey @frank epoch I'm trying out your favorite
Oh this is fun
It's very nice to have a bonk weapon tbh
as in a blunt one
Awesome! Yeah if you need any help or advice or anything I'll be glad to help. Iceborne horn is one of the best iterations of the weapon
does doing the spin thing count as playing?
also naturally given my affinity for E X P L O D E I'm doing geuse horn
L2/Left trigger after another move plays a special Echo note as part of that spinning attack, yeah
Pretty much all echo melodies are (Echo Note -> Other Note)
You can stock them up onto your staff pretty quickly with (Echo note -> Hilt Stab) over and over
Iirc doesn't HH just always have Mind's Eye
Yeah, the second level of Self Improvement gives minds eye (the UI calls it something more literal -- weapon deflection prevention or something?)
Functionally HH will always have minds eye, yeah
What armor skill improves hunting horn again?
oh god girros gear has it
hhhh I don't wanna hunt girros
Oh thank god I have the gem I don't have to hunt girros
That's the one
The level 4 gem has both so I just slotted it for my horn loadout lmao
Horn Maestro yeah, super easy to slot in but also not totally necessary
Other than that just typical Blademaster stuff. I like Evade Extender since it lets you space more easily which is pretty important for HH
There's also the usual good stuff like attack and affinity bumps, critical boost, stun increase if you want it (you can slot a single point into your mantle(s) and be fine really)
Blademaster?
The old school term for "melee weapons"
As opposed to "Gunner" for the ranged weapons
was a distinction made on armor sets
It's been retired
there was blademaster gear with melee skills and gunner gear with ranged
now it's just by set
and a lot of the things that were broken up are now like
on compound skills
And of course in Wilds now the skills are going to be on the weapons themselves
like mind's eye & razor sharp are just
mind's eye/razor sharp
or wait no
that's spare shot
razor sharp/spare shot
mind's eye is compounded with ballistics
Handicraft would be an example of a blademaster skill but there was a good amount of overlap with stuff like generic Hit Harder skills
I wonder if Handicraft is going to be on armor instead of weapons despite being an offensive weapon affecting skill since its usefulness is entirely dependant on individual weapon stats and giving it to weapons that need it would invariably affect balance in ways that could mess up other weapon trees
HH is so much fun lmao
I also have a dedicated water loadout now
which is cool
Look at my fucking d r i p
God HH is so fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!
lmao
look I just queued up the base xeno'jiiva quest and SOS'd it to kill it quick
10 minutes
I buffed the shit out of people
btw do I still have to kill AT xeno'jiiva to get the commission layered armor?
Ah fuck I do
Damn
Nerg is Nerg
Gave me the most trouble out of the base EDs, not surprised that the endgame variant gave you trouble
Shara down
two manned it
ENDGAME TIME
LESS BULLSHIT ANIME FIGHTS
*Zinogre and Rajang exist, I know
Spoilers ||WHAT THE FUCK IT'S ALIVE????||
Oh, I also killed Shara the only way I knew how
Bazel longsword 😌
as is tradition
for you
i guess
i don't actually give the slightest fuck about longswords
l m a o
It's become that, aye
'tis why I hope bazel makes an appearance in Wilds
it likely will and we won't know until the horns blow
if not we'll have another party crasher
honestly i hope we get someone new for the crashing
oh is bazel also the crasher in Rise?
bazel brings bad memories and val is someone i don't particularly care for
along with crimson val
val?
valstrax
oh likely a new rise monster
LMAO WHAT
VALSTRAX IS A PARTY CRASHER???
That's
Wow that's a choice
it just shows up out of NOWHERE
a blazing red comet in the sky
i don't really care about rise and gen is too slow for me so for now i don't like anycurrent crashers
valid
but hey. maybe my opinion'll turn around on em
personally the geuse is loose is my fav monster but I definitely get why he might grate on others
the monsters not rise and gen
deviljho
pickle is alright
but if i ever have to deal with a fucking BANBARO AGAIN
i may or may not desire to hunt those things to extinction out of sheer rage at how much i struggled with them
our taste is turning out very divergent lmao
banbaro?
i have never beaten iceborne and when i first tried i used the defender armor/weapons when going in. NEVER. AGAIN.
what made that a struggle?
it's mostly just another tutorial brute wyvern, ain't it?
I can see it happening
I had trouble with beotodus of all things
Though that was mostly just
huh
Fucking annoying
beo hurt too but like thats a piscene in the game where piscenes sucked
beo was kind of a joke for me, it just never really managed to aim right
I mean I first tried it but it was not a first try one would expect coming hot off the heels of beating the final boss of base World and being raring to go
ahh
bro carted me twice
lmao
i first tried xeno solo so the fact that my face was dragged through the snow by a fish and a reindeer was kind of insulting
What weapon do you use, insomnia?
fish in world are huge shitters, it's true
same, same
though in my case only with beo
this time it'll be different
this time i'll enter that frozen realm hot off the heels of the starchild and i will show the hoarfrost what a sapphire star can do
why do you need to get the guiding lands to get layered armor that's just stupid
oh i was wondering what time it was! kill o clock!
okay hot take kirin fucking sucks
Who thought it was a good idea to make a story mission a perma-enraged one
Kirin's a bit annoying yeah
Pretty much. I think for each set you need materials from its monster
Ye
Also how hard is AT Xeno if you've beat iceborne's main story?
I wanna get the commission layered armor
Are you using MR gear?
If so, then it'll be pretty easy compared to the stuff you fight in MR end game
I am indeed using MR gear
temporal + thunderproof mantles have been my strat against Kirin too
i haven't gotten to MR Kirin yet but in HR it carried me through regular and tempered Kirin without much trouble
urge to share video of me and a Kirin rising
Mildest take in monster hunter lmao
I do actually kinda enjoy kirin and son goku
The high pace def makes my blood pump
monke is my kryptonite lmfao
i have literally never one single time in my life solo-killed a tempered furious rajang
Man it's really fun when playing DBs, need to be so vigilant and both you and rajang move at mach 1 across the landscape
My semi kryptonite is def Fatalis in world. Ain't no way imma farm it solo with DBs.
I ain't breaking that head with DBs 😔
k time to murder the horned saiyan
Rajang is a notorious fight for a reason
i like it a lot
i do not like mumkey
or fatalis
but i like basically everything else in the IB lategame and postgame
I ask cuz so far it's 'drip is locked behind special versions of monsters that appear randomly in this area, good luck having them even spawn lmao' and 'lol your first two fights are with a perma-enraged kirin and an anime fight'
Which
you know
Not a strong sell, let's say
The only reason I'm even trying rn is cuz in their infinite wisdom Capcom parceled areas of the guiding lands behind this shit
Guiding lands is fun when you get into it more
Also you can get the guiding land materials fairly easy and getting/crafting lures is not rly hard
But def annoying
The perma enraged kirin atleast had drastically less hp
oh there's a mechanism to make specific monsters appear?
Yes
Through lures. You do need to get the region to the right level for the Tempered ones but then every spawn at the right level is guaranteed to spawn tempered
And they drop their materials a lot by hitting
And you also don't have a faint limit
You get lures randomly by just hunting monsters and then filling the top right thing and specific ones via guiding alchemy
You can also capture special monsters that only appear in special circumstances to unlock their Arena quests to make farming them a bit easier
Aside from Safi'jiva (which has since been tuned to be soloable) like all of it?
Though Fatalis can be a right bitch to solo it can be done, same for Alatreon if you're still getting used to its unique moves and Escaton Judgement
I couldn't do raging brachy solo
Well he had the decency to drop everything needed to make him into a longsword XD
I was able to solo just about everything myself for what it's worth
Safi aside anyway, since that's designed for hubs to focus down
I think my soloing days are probably well behind me
That's quitter talk! /jk
Finally beat our first Valstrax
Fainted once to getting our camera stuck in the wall
It was a pretty cool fight though
fights zinogre
hears theme
I love that quote from Vegeta but the original video got suspended.
All credits go to TeamFourStar's DragonBall Z Abridged MOVIE: BROLY.
@lapis juniper unsure if you knew but on HH you can do quick performances if the song you start the recital with is only two or three notes long instead of four
So beyond getting a specific song out quick, that's the main reason you can start performing your song list with any of the three songs you've performed most recently. Give it a shot and you'll see the difference, very useful
BARIOTH DOWN!
and with that, i'm further in Iceborne than i've ever been before
in retrospect, i'm not sure that i was actually using bad equipment last time, i think Barioth is just a butt and i'm better at the game than i was before
with new monster parts comes new drip
The resemblance to your pfp is uncanny
Nice drip
Also grats on barioth down
not a surprise since my pfp and hunter are both based on my actual appearance 😛
I mean in my defense I didn't know if that was like your self rn or like transition goals or w/e
xD
oh, 100% fair 😆
swaxe! switch axe has been my first love ever since i picked up MH3U many, many years ago
took me a while to figure out how to get it to love me back, but i'm feeling pretty good about it now
lol fair
i should say that i never beat 3U, nor got very far in it. like many people, World is the first MH game that properly clicked with me
I was legit like
12
XD
but yeah I must say I think I have moderate sauce with the longsword
Mild to TeamDarkside's Ghost Pepper hot
And likewise
World is great
i haven't played a lot with the longsword, but when i've tried it out it's been pretty fun to hunt with
i like good mobility and stylish combos, and LS hits both of those very nicely
Who's your favorite fight so far in Iceborne?
Mine is spoilers so I can't say lmao
tough to say since i haven't gotten very far. probably Banbaro?
i've cleared that one with swaxe and hammer both. i was expecting it to be harder with the hammer, but it turned out to be pretty smooth, with a side of double horn break
i haven't hated any fight yet, though. even Barioth was pretty satisfying to pull off
Barioth was fun tbh
its big ground slam move caught me off guard a few times, so i'm gonna have to watch for that in the future
and that big sweeping attack with its tail
i actually wound up liking its hip check, though, since after i broke its forelegs that gave me a little opening as it staggered
Oh @balmy swan deeply nerdy question but are you invested enough that you've started coming up with lore for your hunter XD
i have not! i'm not yet very deep into MH lore, though i did watch through GaijinHunter's overview of all the monsters in the mainline games
Fully upgraded my bazelgeuse longsword 😌
I am very deep in the sauce to the point of listening to specbio videos on the monsters in the background
as well as videos by the same creator about the general ecology of the world
Also even tho you haven't, wanna hear mine? XD
I need the Zinogre Hunting Horn immediately
I mean I think it's safe to say I've been converted lol
I have two HH builds
Wait till you get to play around with Safi horns
Anyone wanna help me kill Stygian Zinogre? XD
my partner plays MH Now and she sent me this screenshot earlier
lmao
Okay I think I've unlocked the secret to Rajang
traps
no mercy
lock it down
beat it down
incredible violence was the answer all along
It actually doesn't seem to have all that much health
Yeah Rajang's a glass cannon
I enjoy fighting it with HH due to permanent mind's eye
HORNSWEEP
sadly rajang is too fast for me to bonk with my horn
maybe next time
Just go for the quick hits and you'll be good
nargacuga and glavenus down
between them and barioth i'm starting to feel like Iceborne really likes monsters with big 360-degree tail sweeps
Hahaha. More they're just iconic monsters (Narg and Glav are both flagships), who happen to revolve around their tail.
Tigrex next, i think
gonna get that switch axe with the giant chunk of white sharpness
I've also finally gotten my head around the flinch shot, which I think is helping me substantially
Nothing like a solid chunk of damage and a big knockdown
Tiggles is also a flagship monster 😄
...Iceobrne has a metric fuckton of flagships in it's roster, honestly <.<
They're playing the hits for MR
Tigrex was a flagship? Hard times, the past
It was designed in contrast to Kushala Daora who was introduced in the same game
Magic tornado dragon and really angry flying lizard
Tigrex still puts in work though
Monster Hunter Dos
https://youtu.be/-ukheZlWmTk for a sample of how tiggy was when he was a flagship (game: monhun portable 2nd/freedom unite)
wait flagship = cover monster right?
ah
that they use to denote "the special important story monster(s)" of a game
you're correct that tigrex was the flagship of 2 portable though
gen 2's flagships were kushala -> tigrex -> nargacuga
i cannot believe this
three Tobi-Kadachi hunts back-to-back and not a single thunder sac
World, and Tobi-Kadachi is the correct monster to hunt, the desire sensor is just screwing me
the desire sensor hasn't really screwed me meaningfully in a while which is nice
denied me a legiana tail for like four hunts but
It was legiana
That was like an hour
Yup!
As was Rathalos. There's a reason Los is in everyhting
in p3rd it was Lagi, Zingore, Brachy
4th it was Gore Magala, Sergeios
and then the fated four as "Shared" flagships, but gflav as the leader
tigrex fuckin bothers me lol
Two of the most annoying monsters in the game
A match made in the depths of hell
I'm also not a fan, at least Kushala looks cool
Tigrex is a chore to fight and his gear is bleh
Negative Affinity the devil
My main thing with T is, at least in World
His hitboxes are fucked
Which tbh
Not acceptable with how looong some of his attacks are
Like his stupid ass triple charge where he has the turning radius of a hypercar?
It makes me appreciate insect glaive being able to just wholly leave combat
Just let him have his little tantrum and work the energy out
Use a charge blade
I do actually think tigrex was kinda downtuned in world
Tiggles is honestly a good training mosnter
one, he gets easier if you break his legs
(the fornt wing legs)
which is always a good lesson on 'Wounding monsters is acrtually a big deal"
and two, becaus he likes to charge, and charge, and charge again
hes' ver good for praciticng stuff like GUard Point timings, Tackle timings, etc
If he makes it to wilds, he'll be amazing for pracitcing offset attacks
offset attacks 😌
i didn't get to play the Wilds beta but i'm looking forward to learning them
especially because i think the switch axe got the most easily accessible one in the game
Greatsword has one from neutral, which is also a charged attack.
Interesting thing re: offset is it's a "Status" like various other effects - it builds up an invisible health bar
I think getting used to Tigrex in GU made me notice less of it's BS in world, though the rock shotgun is still one of the worst moves I've faced in World.
partner was struggling against Azure Rathalos in MH Now so I was like "would it make you feel better to watch me beat one up in World" and she was like "yes it would actually" so i did and that's what true love is i think
Man part of me can't wait to get back home and play more monster hunter
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for the 3DS has online again with Pretendo.
HOP ON AND PLAY SOME PEAK https://t.co/TsEGpVq3jZ
hey, i actually have that one
https://youtu.be/YXWAYmEQKso?si=NcHjwcPyZW300zZ_
(same build as last time though, just more content)
Happy New Year, hunters! Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is here to welcome you into the year of Monster Hunter Wilds, and to share news of the second Open Beta Test planned for February! The future is looking bright...
Open Beta Test 2 is your second chance to try out the evolved hunting experience in Monster Hunter Wilds, this time featuring an addi...
I wish ||they hadn't kept gypceros's name...||
yeah....
honestly might just skip this if none of the changes from the last beta are included
I am going to play it purely to see if replacing my old, ailing SSD fixed the potato model bug
am I missing something?
Gypceros is the lying wyvern who lies, whose name comes from "gypsy," which most romani consider a slur
a
I guess it just never occurred to me that it's where name comes from
Geryosu it is then
right, also the stealing. I've never fought one, so I forgot that part.
I was trying to figure out if the monhun team has ever broken down the official name origins. as far as I can tell there's just a lot of arguing from people online, from people suggesting "maybe it's named after gypsum" (really?) to "it's the English translatation of the Japanese name" (which...I don't speak Japanese, but that seems wrong?)
My buddy still calls Glavenus Dinovaldo
Zinogre is a cool name for my favorite monster
Although I was always thrown off when someone would come out of the woodwork and say Jinogre when I'd talk about them like, No stop we don't need to resort to Kekaku means plan.
-# We have a character in game for that now
Jinouga!
Normal romanization would just render "Geryosu" as "Geryos" so that latter one makes no sense
Part of is probably keeping with the established english monster names in terms of suffixes, but the rest is weird
okay, cool, that's what I thought. if we say -ceros is equivalent to -ryosu (a suffix meaning lizard/dragon/wyvern), then g[.]ceros makes sense, but sounds bad in english. So adding a consonant makes sense, as does shifting the vowel from e->y
...but the thing about localization is that the localizer's job is to be conscious of the original and local meaning of the name, and try to match them, so matching "gypsy" or "gyp" seems like something you might do deliberately, in 2004, since the word was in common English usage (i.e. not popularly understood as a slur)
(sorry to always beat on this drum whenever this poor critter comes up, it just drives me absolutely insane how anti-roma racism is just. accepted. without people realizing that's what they're doing.)
Dude, it's so upsetting the game waits until the body disappears before it plays the victory music or anything. Must be bugged
-#

well i mean it isn't wrong, 60 seconds is a very limited time
swaxe squad
(we were joined a bit later by a bow user, but they can hang, they're cool)
switch axe is so cool
glad that you can buy gems in the anomaly shop
i don't mind hunting valstrax a few more times but knowing that it's an option (albeit an expensive one) is very nice
gem melding in World has completely saved my sanity
i do not know what i'd do if i couldn't just run a bounty for a gold ticket and grab the gem i need instead of grinding endlessly for it
It's funny what counts as too far for most people.
To me, while I like gold tickets etc existing, I'm fine with gems/mantles because there's a ton you can do to tilt the drop rates in your favor.
Head wounds, tail cuts and carves, captures, investigations, etc
It's random skill deco s or random charms that drive me really nuts
i perfer random dec over charms
part of it for me is that i had an early experience with an Odogaron gem that just would not drop despite multiple attempts running an investigation wounding the head carving the tail etc etc etc and i think that frustration just left a bad taste in my mouth
it also seems like World is balanced around the gold tickets existing, so a lot of stuff requires gems to craft. i don't actually know how that stacks up against other games in the series, but it's made me wonder
Of course now I've got my sights set on some Rathalos armor that needs a mantle, and I'm pretty sure I haven't unlocked the ability to meld those yet, so that's going to be fun
sending luck
I.. am really, truly hoping we don't have to deal with as much randomness for armor in wilds
And I hope they take a cue from rise skill design, give me some absolutely insane stuff in endgame
As someone who played since tri:
Doesn't seem notably different, tbh.
One thing I will say is that how obnoxious gems/mantles are too get often ties into player skill.
I think in general, it's always been about 10 hunts at most for me to get a desired drop.
When those hunts are only taking 10-15 minutes, that's a real difference compared to someone taking 20-30 minutes per
It's been a struggle across games yea (MHGU), I think solo base World hunts went faster than solo in GU/Iceborne at least.
The call of my people
Hey, so do you guys think a monster hunter could take on a dragon from Dark Souls? Like Darkeater Midir or the Gaping Dragon?
Or is that too above the paygrade?
does beating a monster require magic? Then a hunter will struggle (unless they can get someone to e.g. enchant their switchaxe). Short of that, if someone can beat a critter by wailing on it, a hunter can do the same or better. And if you can't, they break out the siege equipment
^^
i would guess that elemental weapons would serve a similar role to enchanting too
Depends on the rules of the world. If magic is just making something sharper or stronger or hotter, definitely. If there's an intrinsic magicalness you need to even touch something (see: RPG damage immunities), then maybe not
See, that’s what i’m wondering. Speaking as someone who’s barely dipped a toe into Dark Souls, i know that monsters in DS, dragons in particular, have a degree of “Magical Tomfuckery (TM)” on their side. And i’m wondering how that’d effect the MH time honored strategy of “hit it a bunch till it dies”
i mean, given that in Dark Souls you can beat the game just with good Strength/Dexterity and a mundane but really good weapon, i'd say that a monster hunter should be able to take on most anything from DS
as fucky as DS bosses can get i don't think there's anything that's invulnerable to proper application of Sword To The Face
Look, if I can take down Safi, I think I can take down a soulsborne dragon
honestly i feel like Midir or Gaping Dragon would be peanuts compared to most elders
dragons in DS that you can fight are notably very capable of being dealt with by liberal application of physical violence for the most part
you might not be able to hunt say, Seath, cause he's kind of a fuck
but the others should be pretty fair game
any properly strong endgame hunter should be able to fairly easily kill most any DS dragon
I feel like Kalameet, converted to a MH target, would be a wild fight
yeah like
most of them would be pretty top tier
Midir, Gaping, Kalameet, Sinh, they would probably be close at least to Elder material, if not outright
Kalameet is even specifically given the 'black dragon' title
Easily. They can beat Safi'jiiva, Alatreon, Fatalis, etc
thats below the paygrade of quite a lot of hunters actually
if you sent the Flame of Kamura or the Sapphire Star to go fight Midir or Placidusax, it wouldn't be an even fight for the dragons
Are those the titles for the player characters? Never knew
sapphire star is both a title for safijiva and for the player character of world
probably the latter here
but in any case, that's pretty badly underestimating the established ability of most of the fromsoft dragons
the gaping dragon is just another wyvern, it's kind of a chump with a gimmick
but fatalis's greatest feat was destroying a kingdom in a day, and it's the Big Spooky Guy
which is about where kalameet and sinh stand as well
midir's scarier than that, and placidusax is from the game where everything you're doing as the player character is at least vaguely conceptual bullshit, and all of their settings have magic
Well, the point we're all trying to make is that you can still beat them with a big sword
Hence the answer of: yes, monster hunters could probably beat dark souls dragons
wait what was that about elden ring being vaguely conceptual?
i think i misunderstood that
you need the power of a Grand Assassin from fgo to kill the erdtree and radagon (applying [the concept of Death] to a thing that cannot die), and also after the first couple zones you have shoved axioms of creation into your (already immortal and inhuman) body
I think this convo is also revealing that i really need to plat dark souls cuz i don’t know shit about those games in terms of power scaling
I thought i heard 3 was solid and 2 was the messy one (also, is this discussion more suited for #video-game-discussion ?)
this was more a comment on 100ing each of the games
Wilds is unlocking here in a few weeks, right?
Damn, I did too
There are two upcoming open beta weekends
same beta build as before, though, right?
Yes, but with some new monsters
i wonder if they'll be including ||Gravios|| (per the interface spoilers from the most recent stream)
Could be fun. Part of me wishes they brought the like, water element Gravios from Frontier over
That thing is way more interesting to fight. It moves around much more quickly with water jets like Blastoise
huh. is that a variant/subspecies or just a different take on the monster?
They're a secret third thing
Called Origin species, only in Frontier G. Something to do with being more closely related to their ancestors or having existed for a long time
playing Swaxe
just did elemental discharge and stabbed a Kulu Ya-Ku in the skull and exploded it to death
tack tack tavk tack tack tack tack tack tack tack BOOOM
The sfx of the swaxe is just so good
So sastifying
I love the blowback animations nowadays too, the whole thing is just real solid
MH is so damn weighty
it's slow as balls and i whiffed like half of my attacks
but it was worth it to explode the fuck out of that Kulu Ya-Ku's skull
killed a rathalos with a zerosum discharge and it felt fucking HEAVENLY
Getting a Zero-Sum as something starts to fly away is always fun and often slightly hilarious
Just dumped on some random part of the map post-explosion
i have to admit, i only recently figured out that you don't have to commit to the full zero-sum attack and can trigger the explosion early just by stopping tapping the attack button
not quite as fun, but i don't get knocked flying in the middle of it as much either, so swings and roundabouts
unrelated, my partner sent me another MH Now "win" screen:
did. did the girros die?
yeah, apparently it paralyzed her right as she landed the final blow
Spite-denying the carves smh
