#Monster Hunter

God I love that top hat
skills primarily focused on supporting an aerial playstyle (evade extender, mounting master, airborne (increases damage from jumping attacks), stamina recovery)
specifically, it's meant to work well with gu's aerial style, which causes you to launch into the air when you roll into a monster (or... some other things), letting you do mounting attacks without needing the environment to be conducive to it.
...though, the change to the dodge roll itself is a little quirky.
i think i might switch back to cb in rise
that weird sniper from dmc 3 could be a hbg too
cerberus for dual blades since windmill (dmc) is basically the dual blades spine ride...

range weapon don't really do it for me in this game
yamato as a LS is asking to be made too
Not technically MH fan art but come on
https://x.com/fryprai/status/1845193609416671564
Making me think of house dragonmaid for some reason
...there's a funny story behind that commission.
specifically, I requested "Gore Magala S armor" thinking of the design from generations,
...apparently, they switched around armor designs between 4u and gen a bit:
the S label is just for "the basic high rank version" but gen also had an EX Gore armor set instead.
...but in 4u, the armor set design that would be called "EX" in gen was... literally just the basic high rank version, labeled S.
Gen just apparently also let you use both the high rank and the low rank design in high rank by having "S" be the same as low rank, and "EX" being the old high rank design.
...but, uh, due to a misunderstanding on my part, I didn't realize any of this until the artist got a fairly in-depth sketch back, so I just rolled with it?
so thus, I figured "hey, it would be funny if this misunderstanding also happened in-universe with the blacksmith going 'hey, you sure you wanted this design, it's kinda revealing' and my hunter unknowingly confirming that, and just... rolling with it."
Lmao
That IS pretty amusing
...oh lord I think I'm finally getting the hang of longsword
Mostly just struggling with how tight the windows for things are
Nyan Quixote
Wonder if it'll make an appearance in Wilds, or if it'll be a DLC thing like in World/Iceborne
Impossible Idea, but what if the Wilds inal boss is Nakarkos with all the extinct monster bones so we can't predict it as easily?
I hope it isn't tbh
Having it be a stepping stone on the way there would be cool though
...good lord I forgot how miserable Kushala is in World
They really did tone him down in Rise
a lot of monsters are toned down in rise
Glad that the wind mantle was toned down, that shit's fucking miserable in World
...why is the best wide 2 gunlance I can get in without grinding for three glavenus tails a giant corn on a cob
https://mhgu.kiranico.com/weapon/4e33b
A Gunlance born from a corny dedication to farming. Despite the appearance, it's got good pop. / The Cornpopper's final form. Achieving a good harvest is all in the mind! / == Ultimate Form == The coveted Ultimate Form of the Cornpopper.
Second zinogre hunt has ended in me getting so frustrated I just turned off the game
I really don’t like the distinct area divide in GU, it lets the monsters just literally push you out of the fight if you get caught in a corner
And the camera is just not great either, sometimes I flat out can’t see what my character is doing because the monster is in the way and the camera refuses to move correctly
Why are there so many little flaws I this game, so much of it is good
Some of the earlier clunk is from this originating on a dang portable, world's big open zones would have been a lot
Plus it does ease the other issue of potions making you do a fun little pose if you can just hide in the other room for a moment
you can also use the distinct areas to your advantage. step back, sharpen, heal, etc.
True yeah
But I don’t like doing that tbh and I think monsters stopping me from fighting them is too annoying for it to be worth it
I'm just explaining why an older game might feel a bit dated, it's not like they're designing with this as the intent
Mmm
Thing plays on the damn 3ds, they managed to fit a lotta game in these games
...I held for the longest time a resentment over world's larger map and thus over reliance on scoutflies, but after like, actually picking the game up again a bit (and then putting it back down after it pissed me off for other reasons) it... it was absolutely just the ancient forest, the rest of the maps were fine.
Ancient Forest could maybe use some of those Rise Shortcut bugs
But it didn't feel so bad once you got all the camps unlocked
Yeah the ancient forest really sucks (for everyone other than me because I have very weird taste)
i think the ancient forest fucking rules tbh
the only downside is kushala daora existing on its map
Kushala's got to be the monster I've fought the least of, it's a neat design but every mechanic is frustrating
i just dislike scoutflies as a mechanic, and the design of the map feels like it absolutely necessitates them.
i thought risen kushala felt fairly reasonable for what it's supposed to be, though it was probably the risen elder I fought the least.
I love the ancient forest but it is a truly insane first map to throw your players into
scoutflies also make my little brain happy
it probably should've been there for the tutorial and then like
the third map
like "ohh we need you to do some bullshit in the forest before you can go to the rotten vale"
maybe make the place safer so some of the squads can get lumber or something?
idk
i can agree that it should been later than wildspire and coral highlands, though, since those maps are so straight compared to the forest
which is peak
but definitely daunting
one of the few times I did multiplayers with randos in my first playthrough, a tobi kadachi knocked me down from its nest, somehow far enough that I just couldn't find my way back. And I guess since the rest of the party was still in a fight, my scoutflies weren't working? so I was just fully lost for five minutes
There's a fish charge blade?
https://mhgu.kiranico.com/weapon/bdaba
A blade that uses an incredibly tough shell to cut through the thickest wyvern hide. / The Vaik Veil's final form. This blade more than earns its keep when hunting in the field. / == Ultimate Form == The coveted Ultimate Form of the Vaik Veil.
it's in rise too
whaaaa
ok imma fight rathalos
damn rathalos got wings
i would get to the nest
it would fly away
run to the other side of the map
it goes back to the nest

I hope they lean back into the stupid weapons in Wilds, and that they make layered weapons accessible earlier on. I want to main a fish blade ...
Scoutflies likely had trouble pathing to Tobi if moving around the tree sections a ton of possible paths
That's possible. I remember them as being in the red/hiding/inactive state like they get when you aggro a monster? But this was years ago, so they might just have been befuddled
it took me a long time to get a good idea of how to get from any place to any other place in the ancient forest
but I do really like it as a map honestly
it feels like a real place
💯 it really drives home the vibe, which makes the sort of toy box levels in Rise feel way shallower
oh yeah the rise maps are definitely a step down from world but you can't really blame them
world barely runs on next gen console hardware
I'm going to have to upgrade my everything for Wilds...
the vibe I'm getting is that performance won't be awful but yeah it'll still probably be a bit of a chonker
felt
but at least my laptop can run it at 60 fps
Hopefully their optimization pass helps, but the original suggested specs they posted were High
...you know maybe I should actually start using the shield that charge blade comes without outside of the occasional guard point
...is there a way to turn off the camera automatically adjusting when it bumps into a monster? It feels really weird and it's glitched out on me a couple times and moves the camera into a top down view
Unrelated, seregios down
I have no idea what happened in that fight other than me doing a lot of AEDs but it seemed fun
Seregios is "snake getting kicked to death by a secretary bird" simulator
wat
Ah
Debating if I wanna pre-order Wilds
Cause on one hand, DO NOT FUCKING PRE-ORDER
On the other, vaguely want the cool hat
What cool hat?
Pre-order bonus's layered armor
I'm not a pre order person so yeah i hope they offer it later for like 2 bucks
has mh had preorder bonus before
Yeah that’s a pretty cool hat
But consider: what if they make your favorite weapon utter garbage
I have many favorite weapons
Damn
Impossible, I play LS
It's really just
"Preorder bad" has been drilled into me
And it is bad, it only encourages crunch culture
Do not preorder
And idk if I'll have the disposable income for it later
wilds is looking extremely good and is by a reputable dev team
Yeah but like
Capcom is still a big corporation at the end of the day
I absolutely do not trust them to not kill their teams on games
Especially not with the dystopia nightmare fuel bullshit I've heard about Japanese work culture
...though thinking about that further, that does feel vaguely racist to immediately assume they'd be worse on the basis of being based in Japan
crapcom is bad yes, but wilds is like 80% done, has plenty of previews with very good gameplay, and is releasing in uh
4 months
idk
i just think that "never preorder" is a bad axiom, you should just preorder the same way you'd buy anything else
well-informed
I guess so, yeah
I've heard the MH teams of Capcom are for the most part separate, or at the least less wrangled than other (Capcom) devs.
They have the rotating teams so that each game has more time
I guess now I just gotta figure out what I wanna preorder then
$20 extra for A Fucking Lot of stuff, or no...
I mean, that samurai armor is neat, reminds me of Sekiro's Iron Warrior, and I always get a lot of mileage out of eyepatches in my outfits
World drip achieved
Recreating your pfp I see
the nergi set is just so cool, i can't help myself
eventually i wanna swap out the odogaron chest plate for kushala daora so i can switch to using my white sharpness deviljho axe but tragically that requires a gem so it may take some time
I wouldn't bother, it's more trouble than it's worth for gear that's only going to be outclassed by MR armor
HR armor is admittedly basically completely obsolete like two hunts into MR unless you are really good at not getting hit ever
Aye
i guess the way i see it is all about expected value, how much do you value the pre order bonus, and is that more than the risk of $70 x your perceived probability that you won't like the game
and then to cut down on that risk, there's no benefit in preordering now vs the day before release, but more info and stuff will be out then
I mean
<- 🤓
is the preorder bonus worth 7 dolla
and ofc this is all approximation and guessing, but i love thinking about stuff like this :3
i have a hard time trusting anything so i never preorder 😭
but it's probably something nice for people to go
as the day approaches
I'm a hunting horn main and I still have a couple hundred hours in rise 🥲
also I preordered wilds as soon as it went up on steam
dang, is rise hh bad?
it has good dps and feels decent to play but it's just a totally different weapon
I am so excited to be able to play real hunting horn again in wilds
in world you charged it or something? I've only seen it a little bit in videos and have no ideas what is going on
it just plays completely differently in world
the way the songs work is different, the combos and stuff are all different, etc
It's not bad, but it's very different and I know some people who played HH before dislike it
but that might be just - different = no like
I have an enjoyable enough time playing rise horn but I really really enjoyed world horn and I'm sad that it was replaced with something else
anyway wilds is going back to world style horn because it's a world sequel not a rise sequel so I'm happy
Hmm. A fair point, I'll probably go back to my less drippy armor setup for the Deviljho axe then
Put a pin in this one and revisit it in MR
can you layer it
not yet, layered armor is a bit further down the line
fashion is endgame in world
i miss my layered strategist specs from my old save 😔
aww
i mean the regular strategist specs give +2 Critical Eye so they're pretty good
but it limits my build flexibility a little
i insist on the glasses
forgot how fucked Fatalis is in World
thought "hmm i'll just go practice a bit"
getting my ass royally kicked
just gonna leave it until i get to that point with my friends
lmao
urgent quest
incredibly dangerous monster
i completed the quest without using a single health potion
literally easier than defeating Rathalos
Brachydios was a fun fight :D ...I wish I wanted any of its gear 😅
bruh that didn't even give me master rank level points
dam that sucks
Defeating the Star of Despair puts you at the pinnacle of all hunters
dude, if killing that guy puts me at the pinnacle then what the fuck was up with fucking Gaismagorm and Amatsu
Valstrax honestly was a bit of a joke to fight ngl
Was it HR or MR?
considering i unlocked it for getting to MR70, i have to assume it was MR
the health matches some investigation targets i've had that are around like
lvl80-90?
star at world's end is mr, yeah
the actual valstrax fight that matters is later
i killed Amatsu at MR44
bastard monster
it put up a significantly better fight as you can imagine
yeah, it's supposed to come later
alright, this is the build for the remainder of HR i think
still gotta fiddle with which charm i want to go with, which mostly depends on whether i can keep white sharpness up at Handicraft 2 or if i need to bump up to Handicraft 3
currently ranking up investigations and master rank
the extra 3 levels of Attack Boost is nice, but i've calculated that white sharpness at Atk Boost 3 is still more damage than blue sharpness at Atk Boost 6, so if i can't maintain white sharpness consistently then it's not really worth it
turns out sharpness is incredibly important. who knew
(everyone. everyone knew this and was telling me this.)
yeah sharpness is sort of nice
Is maxed-out Bloodlust worth going for, or is it like Critical Boost where you only really need the one level?
you mostly want just the one level to turn on the effect in general, with additional levels giving only small damage increase bonuses, but higher levels do improve the comfort of using the skill (the buff lasts longer, the utility buffs to evade window and constitution are stronger)
...for uh, critical boost though, you definitely always want to max that out.
each level is worth the same amount of relative boost and the increase you get for each level is really high for how easy it is to get the skill
assuming you're like, using weakness exploit/some other means to get high affinity, but practically every build should be using weakness exploit except for specific elemental gunning sets
(for anyone not familiar, while critical boost says it increases damage done by critical hits to 30%, this is not a 30% damage boost. It simply changes the 25% damage boost done by regular crits to 30%, or effectively a +5%. The scaling on the higher levels goes to 35% and 40%, so each level is adding 5%, not 'one level that really helps and then cherries on top')
Aye
Evade extender and evade window is so goated though
Yeah it makes a WORLD of difference
I have a very Dark Souls style of dodging that the base amount of iframes does NOT support
Same
A Monster Hunter: World?
heeheehoo
That and for some reason the base dodge distance is like
Two inches
I need to practice in World again if i am going to kill Fatalis
Might honestly switch from IG to DB again in world cause i've gotten so used to them in Rise
I really do need to go kick Fatalis's ass
I need to build up my skill
Again
Rise has spoiled me a bit in that department what with switch skills
Aye
Wonder if they'll prepackage Master Rank in base Wilds or if it'll be DLC content
Given that at this point it's considered just part of the baseline game itself
if they make the game as giant and sweeping as it looks like they are, I wouldn't be surprised if they put MR off until after launch
even if the dev time to make a new rank is way less than making the initial levels and engine, it's still more effort on top of what looks like a pretty ambitious design
I have achieved Peak Edge
Peak edge for this armor set
that scythe is a hammer, right?
that's rather ridiculous
Agreed
i can't really think of a weapon moveset a scythe would function on
other than hammer
and like insect glaive
Switch axe as well
Shit we already have like three scythe swaxes anyway lmao
since GS is 90% blade and IG is double-bladed
swaxe works with scythes but not with that one, since there's nothing to mechashift into
i should've been clearer on what i meant
True, but what could work is a weird magic transformation
Like the Devil May Cry CB
scythe blade un-curves and sword form is just a spear with a magic glowing sword blade over 70% of the haft
burial blade my beloved
Ahtal ka switch axe 🤤
I should try out switch axe in GU actually
Though admittedly you almost never use the “axe” part because you’ve got two hunter arts that when combined are borderline infinite sword mode
the scythe the other day was in fact a switch axe
...well, energy charge III+demon riot III existed in that game.
Yeh
even back then you could draw directly into axe mode via x+a+r, even though the bumper vs trigger distinction wasn't a thing
God this looks so fun
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mffMOsLT8ec
On a related note, finally somewhere I can reliably find speedrun hunts for this game
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15u3SeYxvTXHwvl_S6yM5AXppdbisezKUczMQ6DB58Fo/edit?gid=0#gid=0
What do you mean?
valor switch axe is really co- wait are those the marth pants
I think valor style changes the normal mash x to do a ton of explosions thing that switch axe normally does to just two very quick explosions, if that's what you mean
oh, it was the Dianthus waist piece, just jumping at shadows from base gen
Fought a Risen Shagaru and a Furious Rajang back to back
Good LORD I fucking love Risen Shagaru
Kickass fight
Look at all this good shit I got out of it too
This look decent?
Evil bug man, I love it
Seregios's pin. #MonsterHunter
Like I said before, Seregios is just "snake being kicked to death by a secretary bird simulator"
ngl with the way the red "star" in the sky was revealed I was completely expecting that to end with valastrax flying straight towards the hunter
the red star just becomes a permanent fixture after a certain part of the village quests in gu
Ooh fun
…I really should’ve been doing hub quests earlier huh
Ignore the palico with basically zero gear, I’m only using them to get lions maw II
discord ate my messages
it was a hunter art i think
the startup looked like the grounded zsd
i did not block that
...fuck's sake, one of the layered armors I want requires a horn I just used to make something else with
Now I'm just irritated
lmfao
Also hey now I can hunt deviant monsters... I guess
That seems a bit early but whatever I'm sure it's fine
there are low rank deviants for some of the less... threatening monsters.
...though uh, if you walk into those unprepared/undergeared, they can and will still be royal pains.
I've ignored the hub quests for so long I've already beat the fated four so hopefully I have good enough gear for them
Hmm... the snowbaron set seems really good for aerial style. Not sure what niche the redhelm set has though, it's kinda just a bunch of good stuff skills
some sets are more coherent than others
usually the effort it takes to get them isn't worth it over a conventional mixed set or the final boss armor, but a few have a niche.
Mmm
I'm probably gonna farm snowbaron for a bit anyway, it has what seems like the best normal gunlance in the game (normal 5+deviant boost seems pretty good) so that would be nice to have even if I'm very bad at actually using gunlance in this game
the deviant boost the weapons get makes them more likely to be bis than the armors, yeah
is deviant boost the rng stat boosts?
deviant weapons charge your Hunter Arts faster. it depends on the weapon as to whether or not this is genuinely impactful
It was not good enough, that took 34 minutes and one cart
which quest was it?
the deviants for even the "low tier" monsters are rather threatening for the part of the game where they each unlock
redhelm arzuros has hands
and oh boy do those hands HURT
got to see the mh 20th anni statues
ahh ty
The first snowbaron quest, that thing hits like a truck
I'm assuming that's 2.3x the normal snowbaron's attack
it's... complicated
Oh no.
(It would be nice if Kiranico had any guide to figuring out what anything on it means)
but that's comparable to a high rank attack multiplier
like, these values don't show up in game as displayed in any game, even post world, they just are hidden parts of damage calculations
Yeh
...ugh
there's not really a "normal" snowbaron to compare it to
I just want ONE level of Bloodlust on my ranged armor but I can't even get that
baller
I hate RNG
fundamentally it just serves as "the way the game makes high rank monsters hit harder than low rank monsters numerically"
I wouldn't care normally but I use the Chaotic Magala LBG because I like having a wide spread of ammo at my disposal
fun fact, in the ex g rank quest the attack modifier goes up to 17x
Same reason I still use Shell Studded armor instead of focusing on one ammo type, I like using them all
how does lbg play? i kinda did some flips and stuff but idk which other wirebugs to use
baps you 17 times
point, press lmb, win
dang...
lbg is basically faster hbg
Pretend like you're playing offbeat Ultrakill
do keep in mind the jump silkbind can launch a wyvernmine into the monster from above
i think it also gives a small damage boost?
kaboom
i see
(the ex quests are entirely for bragging rights and aesthetic features)
the Mal lbg is the best for pierce in Sunbreak
it also looks swish af
Power barrel gives it a sick bayonet
reminds me of siege mode from GU and older games... ahh, memories
aha
regular / silencer / power barrel
remember when the bowguns had special ammo that were weapon specific
I might play a bit of lbg because I found out that one of them is just a fish
and it looks cute
ah right internal ammo, that's what its called
there's a dog HBG too
a wooden palamute lookin thing
oooh
how far along are you supposed to be before beating primordial malzeno
yeah I know that one, although it's an LBG not an HBG
🤔 well, I had a lot of trouble fighting it
so maybe... idk tbh 🤔
valor reload into slicing ammo for that sweet sweet gauge on the kushala hbg ...
just prepare to get carried
but I'm getting to the end of the weapon and armor trees
😔 i never got the kush HBG
but i did get the barrioth one
nice nice
I think primordial malzeno should be done after the rest of your urgent quests if you have any left
so there's probably not that much stat wise i can improve, other than some defense upgrades and qurio stuff
i see
like the metal raths and stuff
the what
I think the only thing after him is the risen elder dragons
all i have is seething bagel
gold and silver rathian and rathalos
are they mr50
you haven't seen lucent narga yet?
do bagel
Jesus Christ
How does ex bloodbath diablos have almost as much hp as old fatalis
haha, yeah, I've only done like, 3 of them
remember folks, Bloodbath Diablos is powered by sheer fucking hatred and spite
no
its angry
yeah I think its best to do all of the urgent quests
then the urgent Primal Malzeno one at the end of them
I am beginning to see why shelling damage is kinda pointless after a certain point
doing them unlocks like... crown icons for your name in hubs and special color changing armor dye
since i think you're fighting the event/optional Primal Malzeno
not the Urgent Quest one
😔 i wish GL was powerful in previous titles
but heyooooo Wilds seems to be changing that for the better
It's just world and rise where its good right?
I think? And even in World, its iffy, imo
rise tho.... heeheehoohoo blast dash
still, the thought of Wyvernfire being a projectile AND having 2 at the same time
ooooohohohohoho
be prepared Arkveld, I'm not gonna relent
oooh does any gunner here remember internal ammo?
gotchaa
Eh, the only real bad thing about it in world is wyrmstake blast being pretty annoying
And I guess it only having one guard point but meh
it is in my urgent quests i think
i haven't looked at any MR events
...I should sleep
go eepy
Oh hey I can make a tiny hat with bunny ears from the snow baron materials
hand it over
okaaaaaaay
👀

very good
male set should also have shorts
…why is the concept art paler than anything you can make in GU
hmm...
World arena quests... bad.
"challenge yourself by fighting monsters in the arena with preconstructed sets created by hitting 'random' on the equipment screen"
“Also they have multiplayer level hp”
yeah, for some reason they only want you doing them in co-op
maybe i'll recruit someone to help me push through them, then
i just want the jail hammer 😭
If nothing else I think you only need to get silver for the best rewards
I can help when I get home from work
Those quests are fucking miserable
The ONE good set of gear is in the Zinogre quest where you get full Rimeguard and a Velkhana longsword
i never touched the arena at all cause it just sucks complete ass in all regards
Appreciate the offer, but I'm not going to have the chance to be on tonight--I'll ping you a bit later in the week if there's an evening when I'm playing
So I tried out aerial style charge blade and it's fun but also very hard to play well
Getting to red phials is a pain so I should check out when I can get access to load up to get five phials at yellow char-
Fuck
Do you want to be indestructable? Do you want your enemies to fall before you while all their attempts at stopping you utterly fail? Do you like pointed sticks?
Okay, get this: it's an axe... and a sword. And the sword explodes.
doot bonk :)
do you like hunting monsters
MUSIC MAKE YOU LOSE CONTROL
MUSIC MAKE YOU LOSE CONTROL
LETS GO
Me getting a power boost whenever Proof of a Hero plays
Certainly
Pssst. Hey. You. Yeah, you.
You wanna shoot monsters with a shotgun the size of a cannon?
i'm glad the post is popular, but you waste your breath on me
for my god is the One God
and i have seen the enlightened truth
begone, deceivers
you shall not lead me astray
i'm guessing SnS main
What, you're telling me you DON'T wanna pull up on a monster with the punt gun?
charge blade and swaxe for me
I think one of my joycons is starting to drift 😔
Every now and then the camera just starts moving above my character without any input at all
aughhh
master utsushi's school of "dual blades i guess, but like, I'll use whatever"
Dual Blades are horribly broken in Rise so i've been cooking monsters with them
EVERYTHING is broken in Rise
Dual Blades have a lot of fuckshit going on with sharpness and damage skills
And you know, insane dodge power if you add some evade extender and window
I have killed a Shagaru Magala! 🥳
That was a really fun fight, even if I carted twice 😌
simply master demon flight and shrouded vault and you don't even need evade window or evade extender and can thus dump more into stuff like frenzied bloodlust, powder mantle, and mail of hellfire
like i've said before, gu's highs are some of the highest of the series.
I fucking love the repurposing of things in monstie huntie
Astera is literally peak design
Congalala killed, I think that means I am technically in high rank now
More importantly, it gives me access to all of the GU exclusive hunter arts
...wait, warning? That's a first
ahaha, yeah.
Ah, well that's valstrax then
Weirdly I didn't get any supplies for the quest other than the map
...the heck is a rust shard and why did it turn into an iron lance
that's old high rank for you!
...okay so I understand an airship is the best means of transport we have, but do we really want to chase after Valstrax with one of them?
I hope I never have to hunt congalala ever again
Not because it was hard or frustrating or anything, just because it's pretty gross
it's definitely my least favorite monster in the franchise, yeah
i'm going to look for a mod as soon as Wilds comes out that just completely removes congalala
real!
...carted twice in a hunt and left
Feel like the world's biggest piece of shit
As I fucking should
want to try heaven sent, but my chest and gloves are velk so I'll only get level 1 without sacrificing some frostcraft and qs3/crit draw 3, but the amatsu armors do have 2 4 slots which can probably make up for the latter skills
Love how the Zinogre longsword starts crackling with lightning when it's charged
...makes me miss the Stygian Zinogre LS though
oooh
that’s cool
astalos GS opens up during charging
fun stuff
why u so frostcraft
I liek damage go up
that's so hype
what's the third meter next to your longsword one?
Frostcraft
...ngl I really don't understand the decision to feature Velkhana in Rise
Its whole thing is being lord of the Hoarfrost Reach
Why is it in the Frost Islands
it's on vacation
true
so people with laptops that can’t run world can fight it

Lmao
my laptop could run world a bit but it doesn't work with rise. at all
though i think it's a linux issue
I… see

What do we think, yay or nay for this fit
Helmet's color is a little off, but I'm unsure what color would make it match the chest piece... hmm
Maybe it just needs to be less saturated?
Yeah that might be it, the chestpiece has a faint tinge of purple but the helmet's tinge is stronger
Random thought
What monster has the most human-like intellect
...besides the ape monsters
not sure, but Kulu-Ya-Ku is canonically pretty intelligent and capable of rudimentary tool use.
fatalis is notable in that it's established as being intelligent and malicious
like, it is explicitly capable of deliberate cruelty
True
🤝 you and me both
You've good taste in guns
Brothers in dakka
Mostly just asking because I'm trying to figure out a villain for that MonHun/Witcher crossover I've been wanting to write for ages
Something about taking the form of a dragon for themself
None of these namby-pamby dragons from the Witcher, though
No, dude has his sights set on true legends
Aye, but Fatalis seems more like final climactic arc material, like a culmination of the antagonist's goals as he settles for "lesser" elder dragons
...a Shagaru Magala villain would go pretty hard
🤔 what about Ahtal Ka?
she's pretty damn smart, enough to know what goes where and what materials to use for her big mech nest
Aye, true
...wait, actually
What if
Big bad villain is looking for Fatalis kit to transform himself
Somehow learned about the whole "Fatalis gear will transform YOU into another Fatalis" and thought "Goddamn, gimme a piece of that action"
that's also an in-universe rumor/myth, so he's probably going to be pissed when it doesn't work
Eh, this is the magical world of fanfiction, reality is whatever I want it to be
trueeee
and the big fatalis lookin sword in/near Pokke Village always seems to regrow when you mine it for chunks of material
sooooo
i'm fond of the "yes, people who tend to wear fatalis armor too long tend to mysteriously disappear after a time, but mostly because the stuff is still regenerating slowly, so eventually the joints lock up"
Yeah it's definitely just "they got crunched to death"
oh that makes sense. It turns you into a statue
Still though
Ultimate arch culminates in the villain, clad in full Fatalis armor, casting some necromancy spell or something, the armor grows and grows and emulsifies him, melding him and his consciousness into an ancient malice and destroying himself utterly in the process, as his hubris spells his ultimate end
Alternatively, have something to do with the Frenzy, some shit of mutating it into some virus that'll let the Big Bad mind control whatever's afflicted with it
Need we bring up Atlal Ka and its fucking mech?
I did!
Missed that, my b
You do not, for Andy already has
holy crap
that's cool
WAIT i had an idea....
heaven sent insect glaive...
bounce foreva
or i can just grab my constitution talisman too
but the sharpness saving would be nice
...why is there a stowaway cat in a barrel on this ship
Unrelated, I really need to find a way to farm max potion ingredients, bug and mushroom spawns being randomized is kind of annoying for that type of thing
they give requests sometimes
did discord eat my message
can't you send a palico to one of the farms to get insect and mushroom mats?
treasure island palico...
kity
One of the farms?
(I'm playing gu for reference)
like
if you've played rise, you can send palicos into a submarine near the Argosy to get materials from faroff places
like herbs, honey, bitterbugs, blue mushrooms, etc
I believe you can do that too in GU
gonna hunt monsties tonight

Do you mean Neko (Means Cat)?
😭
If so I've only got the one farm with them and it doesn't have a lot
the editor's note..
If thats the cat in kokoto, no. Its the cats by the side area near Bherna
That's literally his name
I think
Like,
maybe check around to see what quests unlock more cats to send and more places to send them to? Along with increases the size of the box
OH NEVERMIND
...oh right prowler quests
I've kinda not been doing anything with prowlers ngl
I should probably change that
And also figure out how palicos work in this game too
it's so funny
there should be a decent amount of fan documentation about palico skills and support moves...
Don't rely on the Counter Shot or Counter Charger for shit
Half the time the animation's so drawn out you get hit by whatever followup the monster has in its two billion hit hypercombo
womp
i need ballistics and quick reload, and element up if i run a pierce element
i basically just use a blademaster build with my guns
which is rough
Use Shell Studded armor
It's probably shit but it has a bunch of useful gunner skills
Increases to the three big ammo types, ballistics, tune up...
i seeeee
me with LS
at least in World
yayy
Y'all think this looks decent? Trying to go for a "magical prosthesis arms" kinda look
Nice
Nice
wait what is this
it's like, player-made guilds
i seeee
Got the Velkhana LBG
Certainly feels a lot better than my Chaotic Gore one
Less recoil and less reload
Can't rapid-fire Pierce 2 and I can't use some of the good ammo that Chaotic Gore has, but everything else just feels nicer
what do the extracts for IG do exactly? red lets you do the multihit aerial thing, and orange negates knockback, white increases defense?
Combining them also changes your moveset
:O
i don't remember specifically which but a combination of two of them unlocks the full moveset of the Insect Glaive
getting all three prolongs how long each lasts
which is why it's always best to get them all
also because it makes you the most powerful you can be
I might try the 2 sunbreak switch skills that rely on aiming the reticle in midair to move you, seems to get you aerial damage stacks much faster than the standard spin thing
I am still hype for Wilds. I really want my Gunlance buff.
me and the friend group are gonna play the absolute shit outta wilds
Gunlance buff? 👀
I'm looking forward to LS, wanna get my hands on it to feel out the changes and new moves, especially the changes to red guage and the new spirit charge attack
Oh yeah, GL is getting jacked up
Movement tech, more explosions
More explosions!?

This vid has a dumb AI voice but should give you an idea https://youtu.be/WVNNtsRlmi0?si=ZyWZi-gQL1yno8Vj
A very huge thanks to capcom and its community managers to allow me to have a hands on session with monster hunter wilds. Gunlance is awesome and I have been able to record a full hunt and extract every bit of information I could including the evidence that now shelling attacks are buffed by stuff like hunting horn!
As a big note this gameplay...
I'm somewhat hyped for wilds, tempered only by the fact that i likely won't play it until a while after launch
Fair
I'm only able to play it at launch cause a friend gifted me the pre-order on Steam
but I'm super hyped for everyone else to play it
When it does come out it would probably be prudent to set up a spoiler channel, at least for the mid to late game stuff
Wait, shelling scales with attack now?
We have never been more back
It would seem to, though we'll have more concrete answers if/when the demo drops
ooooh
Speaking of gunlance, I should probably try forcing myself to use gunlance in gu again
And just try to avoid thinking about how slaplance is optimal in that game
WE HUNT
I'm hoping to save enough to get my ass a usb to controller for PC and buy Wilds when it gets out or on sale. ||(Cause I am an Asian cheapskate)||
AA Flare my beloved.
Give me back my surefire way to knock shits out of the sky whether they be flying or jumping.
first true aerial IG hunt done, that was super fun
using kinsect slash to get faster, more directed aerial stacks for my dragoon dive
ooh my 100th master rank monster too
MR 50 :D
angery monke 😨
look at this good boi chillin
oh jeez, that's a lot of purple sharpness
but it's a violet mizu weapon soooo
huh, seems like the gold rath armor fits somewhat well with the sailor skirt, but i have a distinct lack of armor when i kinda wanna try a more armored outfit
this piece kinda works, idk if the colors are mismatched tho
the gold rath legs are not it
my camera won't focus!!
i must've bumped it by accident
furious rajang and nargacuga be schmovin
i keep whiffing my diving wyverns
they do be schmovin
apparently i have two Rise characters
i had completely forgotten
mail of hellfire and -11 defense
the qurious crafting roll of all time
minayle is sabotaging me
i had a ton of fun hunting today
:D
new weapon growing pains are somewhat surpassed
Red gives you the good glaive moveset, white increases your overall speed, and orange gives a flat DR, combined they'll last longer and also have the side effect of nullifying monster roars
tyty
i might start a dash juice addiction
even with constitution 3, targeted kinsect slash is too expensive
Aye
https://mhrise.kiranico.com/data/items/1524409204
by the way, there's one sailor in elgado that gives you souvenirs from other places in the monhun world (that can mostly just be sold for zenny) when shipments come in...
A unique product of a spectacular mountain region. Spun from fluffy Moofah fur.
steadily raising anomaly levels...
girl why u so money
i'm currently at 13,081,173z, apparently.
at some point it stops being particularly relevant to making new pieces of armor
I've got a pile of sets and multiple pieces of the same endgame armorsets due to how qurious crafting works, but like...
...it's mostly just specific parts for qurious weapon crafting
i see
i'm running low on afflicted stuff after rolling and making a few new crafted pieces
Question: do I use switch axe like a reasonable person or do I do demon riot+tempest axe+trance slash so I can get access to the most impractical attack in the game
moves to use exclusively with a trap master status sns/lbg buddy
Yeh
...do kinda miss my god's isle.
With demon riot and tempest axe active it literally takes 12 seconds to finish
you say "use switch axe like a reasonable person" as if that's a thing people do
when you swaxe you overcommit to your combos, that's what it's for
(words from the master of getting knocked flying mid-combo)
The attack in question:
Note: it was interrupted by the roar
that's completely absurd. i love it
also i love the one-tap kill afterward
"interrupt my grand combo, will you? fine!"
Demon riot+tempest axe+trance slash
It is right and proper for a switch axe user to recklessly charge in and be a DPS cannon like they're a barbarian
That was honestly the best part of the whole hunt
even having mained swaxe pre-Iceborne, i have a hard time imagining playing it without the fade slashes these days
before that your defensive options were basically "make your peace with blunt force trauma"
Aye
and realizing that i could fade slash from sword mode into axe mode changed everything
You really did need to slot for Defense Up cause lord knows you were gonna get the snot beat out of you
...or it would if i remembered it more consistently 😅
btw Wamly, are you working right now?
Yeah, it basically has zero defensive options
Well outside of adept and valor style, but those don't have the HA slots to do this ridiculous idea
there is a certain appeal to knowing that there is nothing but mashing x over and over, occasionally pressing b to sidestep, and then occasionally hitting X+A to proceed to mash x over and over but in a different way
"what's wrong with the side hop? lance has a side hop, and it's perfectly fine!"
"...lance also has a gigantic fuckoff shield."
"i don't understand what you're trying to say"
I feel like maining hunting horn made it hard for me to learn weapons with actual defenses. it's like. Parrying? What's that?
I'm out rn, sorry dude
no worries!
had a moment that made me laugh out loud when the Rathalos i was hunting killed itself by tail-whipping one of my mines
And the whole thing
8 seconds to get demon riot and tempest axe up and 12 seconds to do trance slash
Oh shit look what came in the mail
👀
Jho would look really good with a little cowboy hat
Something I'm realizing about GU is that the weapons I'm enjoying the most in it (switch axe and charge blade) are weapons that I haven't actually used before
Trying to figure out if this is because those weapons are just really fun and I've never noticed or if it's because since I've never played them before so I don't notice the differences between the GU versions and the World versions and as a result get frustrated they don't work how I expect. Probably a bit of both
Also: hunter arts are so much fun, I love them
I thought KB + M MH was ok
lmaoo
o7
ooh speaking of figures I did see a bunch of cool ones on my trip so I'll send those sometime when I rember
wonder if it would be worth running some latent power on IG….
i think i remember reading that there’s a 50% cap on stamina use reduction? not sure
if so then constitution 3 and latent power 2 should be good enough, and i get 20% crit too sometimes
hmmm
or i could get a couple levels of crit eye and chug dash juice instead for a smaller buff and 100% uptime instead
i heard in mh wilds there's going to be a weapon
please spoiler mark that
i heard in ||mh|| wilds there's going to be a weapon
i heard there was a flying ||wyvern|| too
whewwww
first time i've seen the "10 mins left warning"

i need to do it again...?
so it seems
augh
Love how the event quests never give you enough in one go
having to kill 3 elders for lagombi ears is crazy work
weh
maybe tmrw
or with a weapon that isn’t IG for kushala
i was hitting da wing all the time
no damage
same…
been playing some minecraft today instead, but i might just keep it running in the background while i play MHR since i'm just waiting at a farm rn
it’s fun to fight the earlier monsters again

nevermind, my controller isn't charged 😔
...god I wish that Kushala and Teostra didn't just have a "fuck all ranged users" shield for most of their fight
and i was just about to ask if u wanted to do some anomaly together 😭
Yeah...
I now own RiseBreak 😌
nice
I now own a monster hunter game on every system I care about... except for the 3ds
Though given online functionality on the 3ds is disabled I'd probably lose out on a ton of dlc quests even if I did have 4 ultimate on it
I have not 😔
you should
Indeed
it's quick, free and easy
Unfortunately my new 3ds's shoulder buttons are kinda fucky nowadays so mh4u probably wouldn't be a great experience
fair enough
i've got 4u on my 2ds XL i'm fairly sure
i've also got a modded version of XX with a barebones english patch to make it playable
(Admittedly having to use the c stick for the camera would already do that but that can be worked around by the lock on mechanic)
Why not get a modded version of gu?
...wait that's switch exclusive, I'm dumb
Yeh
which is why i have it installed
even though, if i wanted to play GU, i would just switch emulate it
yeah i have 3u, 4u, Generations, XX and Stories on my 2ds XL
though i have like, 100+ games on my 2ds XL
including Half Life
3ds modding truly is fun stuff
The abhorrent Khezu
Everything about the Khezu makes my instincts want to just squash it and kill it.
Like, Gigginox didn't trigger me like that (almost does tho), but Khezu does.
Man. I need to save my salary to buy Rise and Sunbreak.
I almost want to break my No Pre Order rule just to yoink Wilds and just wait for it.
This is the only Gunlance I do not like even tho it brings me catharsis in seeing the Khezu be very clearly ded.
unironically i think every khezu weapon in Rise incorporates its head in some way
it's like the crafters also fucking hate the bastard
If you're patient you can probably snag them really cheap in the next sale
The problem with this tho is I dunno if the sale will come before or after my salary. Sob
As well as see if the discount is big enough.
This is a suspiciously generous sale but everything I've looked at so far tells me the site is legit
https://us.gamesplanet.com/game/monster-hunter-rise-sunbreak-steam-key--5350-6?ref=cheapshark
I will let you know if my steam account gets banned because the key wasn't legit though
Sus.
Fuck I can't use it.
Even if I can buy it.
This be sad if I am understanding right.
Damn 😔
My goal in the future with Rise + Sunbreak is use Blast Dash and Aerial Shelling to force monsters to sit the shit back down. :3
what is happeninggg
simple, both parties involved simultaneously have every disease
DB mains scare me
yayyy
... well, i skipped out on berserk for that specific set since it's not necessary for that hunt, so it's not every disease, just like, 4 different blood-adjacent abilities
Bloodlust
blood rite, bloodlust, frenzied bloodlust, blood awakening.
dereliction is also thematically similar, but this build prefers using mail of hellfire instead.
ohhhh
what’s making the wirebugs green?
theoretically there's a dereliction/dragonheart/dragon conversion build you could do, but I generally run the bloodlust focused builds...
Wind Mantle.
After using a silkbind, speeds wirebug recovery until you sheathe your weapon.
whoaaaa
the build is set up to take advantage of the fact that you can probably fire off 3 Spiral Slices in a row against a downed monster
Is it a sizable boost?
Been wanting something that'll make wirebug recovery less painfully fucking slow
a single level grants the effect which is 10%, but attacking continuously increases how strong it is
vampire build is very cool
Drill em 'n grill em
this is specifically "the version of the build I use against afflicted monsters that are weak to dragon"
blood rite+blood awakening isn't very effective against risen elder dragons, as they can't get key part breaks until late in the fight
they also don't afflict bloodblight...

i have a lot to learn
i miss seltas queen
and seltas too
yes, this was their DBs
I miss those giant bugs so much
oh wind mantle is from risen stuff
I could make a driller build in one of the games with Seltas...
(cough) anyway sorry for sidetracking the convo
for comfort, the amatsu gear with heavensent is a decent option if you want to give up raw output for
- infinite stamina
- infinite sharpness
i have seen neither hide nor hair nor metallic scale of risen monsters
👀
I forget the unlock conditions for them
infinite stam..
berserk is also an option, but there's something really funny about "yeah, so it gives you infinite stamina, the highest damage output out of all these options, and you can't be oneshot, but also you need to actually actively invest in healing or else you'll just fucking die"
berserk was scaryyyy
Gotta be real high MR
120 just for the first Risen
zamn
the other health drain skills in exchange for power can't actively cart you, berserk can.
guhhhh
i have blood rite and partbreaker on some waist piece
the fricking open chest vest + wings combo...
I use the waist in my Magala armor
similar to risen kushala's wind mantle, risen teostra gives you powder mantle: hitting the monster repeatedly cloaks you in explosive powder, and if you get hit then...
...you blow up and eat shit.
but if you can avoid getting hit for a while, it turns blue, and adds a chunky explosion to your next hit
but i don’t usually hit specific parts often, IG does help with that tho

This un here
👀
blood awakening, Primordial Malzeno's signature skill, is very powerful and also probably the main reason to bother with blood rite ever aside from berserk shenanigans
Does deal 100ish damage though, so it's not TOTALLY wasted
Just mostly wasted
It's frustrating that it takes a whole 20 seconds to actually activate and then it's only active for 10 seconds before switching back to orange
Need a hand with him?
Right
