Ganatantr Taare space, still wounded by SECCOM's "reclamation" efforts, is going through turbulent times. It now belongs to the republic in name only. A poorly thought through treaty on the primarily desert planet of Rajasthan has once more descended the world into a period of warring raja, with ungrateful revolutionaries dotted about, making the most of the chaos. Bharata, the core world of the republic, has become a republic in name only, following a coup backed by the Corpro State SHIVA. A pirate fleet regularly raids Rajasthan and worlds on the periphery of the republic, led by a strange lancer. Is their mech... HORUS Tech? Or perhaps it was a project by SHIVA...

#

ok that's basically a placeholder for now I'm still in the relatively early stages

SHIVA sounds cool, I'd like to learn more

Thank you for your interest! I named SHIVA after, well Shiva. For anyone unfamiliar with Hinduism, Shiva is part of the Trimurti, they are the "destroyer." Basically they represent destruction, whereas the other two of the Trimurti represent creation and preservation(?) this is all just from the top of my head. I wanted to name them this because their origins were on Rajasthan during a period of warring princes, and their chief product was arms. Eventually they expanded to anything from Mechanized Chassis to a pistol. These are the tools of war, things designed to kill and destroy, so I wanted something evocative to be their name. SHIVA I thought was perfect, for what are they doing if not aiding in the destruction of Taare?
Although that wasn't really your question

#

SHIVA, as I mentioned, is also the driving force behind the coup on Bharata. They know that Taare "reclamation" after the coup will mean a lot more chassis for them to sell, and having a puppet state under your belt isn't exactly the worst thing in the world for them.

#

but, the coup is recent, and the new regime isn't too popular with the history of SECCOM on people's minds. Especially not with the Khalsa analogous people I haven't thought of a name for yet.

#

I mean I could just call them the Khalsa but like. I don't want to draw the ire of more devout Sikhs.

I think this is a good way for me to flesh out things I haven't gotten to yet

OH RIGHT i had a whole preamble thing about inspiration i need to share here

#

Field Guide to Taare takes heavy inspiration from the cultures of North India, and with that comes the risk of the fetishization of the orient. I have done my best to respect my people, as I am Punjabi, as well as tried to consult others of different cultural backgrounds in order to handle this in the most respectful way possible. However, I am Canadian, and as a result may have internalized many colonialist notions about my homeland, and the homes of others. If you notice anything that is offensive and/or misinformed, please contact me here on discord by either pinging me or sending me a direct message.

I'm frankly surprised this is being received well, it's my first foray into writing and game design. Overjoyed that a couple people are as interested in this as I am. Or at least a little intrigued.

Yeah best of luck 😄 The setting sounds promising so far

time for me to cover some more factions

The Soldiers of Kaos are fascist survival-of-the-fittest scum. They're the pirate fleet that was mentioned, and they have significant holdings on Rajasthan. They appropriated the language of ungrateful propagandists in order to garner support, of course while using the tactics of regular fascist radicalisation. This is where they get most of their manpower, and it's been working wonders. Their leader is... enigmatic. And yes, that is partially because I haven't thought about them much yet.

On Rajasthan, the remainder of the Coalition of Princely States and the local Ungrateful/Khalsa have forged an unstable alliance in order to more effectively combat Kaos forces. The Bharata administration however, has been seeking ways to effectively integrate the Soldiers. This has, of course, been fruitless so far... but there are Lancers who are actively working on it.

The origins of the Khalsa are a tough one for me to write. I am Sikh myself but I don't want to just place a figure analogous to Guru Nanak in the story, that would feel disrespectful.
The Khalsa are a religious warrior people who are vehemently against the caste system so prevalent in Taare. An emphasis was placed on this caste system during the SECCOM administration, and so they all work towards dismantling this structure, in one way or another. Their militance proves a threat to the Bharata administration, and they've tried to pacify them by attempting to convince the Khalsa that reform is possible, the system is in place for a reason, blah blah blah you've heard it all before.
Not working out great for the administration...
and the Khalsa have their own mechanized chassis

#

i wrote too little about them i think

tulip night
#

little note on the Khalsa is I want them to manufacture/modify a mech to be something called the Ranjit/Kirpan/idk i'm still choosing the name

#

want it to complement the commander talent maybe but mostly I just want them to have a signature mech

What was the issue with GDocs? Were you using a specific template?

tulip night
#

nah it just doesn't have a thing that lets you fit it to the page

#

at least not one i could find

#

libdre office was easy though

tired anchor
#

Ah, I think you can right click it and control its size? Dunno tho

tulip night
#

will try that

#

Like there may be a rightclick menu for GDocs, and like “format image” or “properties” or something. I don’t know, I primarily use MSWord

tulip night
