Playtesting is ongoing for my module Trouble On Dpok, a unique adventure that sees players climbing from level 2 to level 12, with branching paths and a almost a dozen endings. If you've ever wanted a long adventure, one that can be played and replayed, this is the one for you!

The elevator pitch for the campaign is the players must solve, through diplomacy or violence, problems that they themselves have caused.

A short blurb on the setting is below:

Originally built for researchers and their families, Skarth is a declined metropolis, filled with the whine of broken advertisement holograms and failing printers. To the southwest of Skarth, following the dry river, is a chain of small farming towns. Most are now abandoned unless they, by chance, happened to be built over an underground water reservoir. The city is run by Mayor Edmund Hardiger alongside his uncle, the Chief of Police Dresnok Hardiger. Together, the two keep the boiling tension of Skarth just barely under the lid. Strangely, Skarth has been having regular OmniNet blackouts.
Roughly 650km past the final farming village is base K-493.0.8, affectionately called New Home by its former residents. New Home was the staging ground for research on Dpok, a massive and imposing walled complex rising behind some vacant satellite labs. The base is local legend, a SECCOM charnel house, filled to the brim with valuable scrap and deadly automated systems, including a powerful anti-air battery that prevents orbital drops and atmospheric scans of the complex. Recently though, strange lights and houses have been echoing from the dead base. Alarm sirens blare at odd hours and rumors of a long-dead General Alexandria are heard among the scrappers that scurry from the tomb.
You have, one way or another, found your way to Dpok. you may be on a layover heading into or out of the Long Rim, you may live here. You may be on a mission trip or here to research the lost technology of New Home.```
You can track development of the module here or more actively on the Discord I created for the field guide! There will be no Kickstarter (I'm funding this myself), and the LCP will always be free.

I have exciting news! Field Guide to Dpok 0.3 is releasing on Itch.io as well as on this server today! After almost a dozen tests each and some Very Professional :™: review, I am pleased to announce that the six frames previously included in the pack are roughly done!

In addition, there is a huge announcement about the content pack: We are including three additional frames!! Art for the new frames will be done by @spice yoke once again, to match with the design of the original six. I’m so excited to see what he comes up with, and I hope you are as well! @BlochParty is finalizing the flavor text for the module, and once that’s done, and the art is complete, we will be releasing 1.0!

After this, there will be no more major changes or additions to Dpok, just balancing and fixes, which may or may not include overhauls to the 3 new alt frames on the off-chance they need them. Unless anything unforeseen comes up, any tweaks to the original six will be a number here or there, not full-blown changes like we’ve seen in the past.

If you would like to use one of the new frames in a playtest instead, just change your original build message in #build-zone and alert me at least 72 hours in advance. Be warned, the new three may change more than you expect, as these are first draft frames.

A copy of the pre-release Player’s Guide is also available on my Itch.io! https://hyper-c-shell.itch.io/trouble-on-dpok

Good thing you got off of GDocs then lol, I know the Iridia project ran up against export issues

I remember hearing stories about how the Lancer core manuscript started killing word processors near the end

#

I think it needed to be edited in pieces

plush ibex
#

Oh wow

#

That makes a ton of sense! It takes like 10 seconds to save it

livid juniper
#

May be an idea to split it up into sections before it starts having real problems then

plush ibex
#

I think it won't grow much more. Basically I have pages for each beat and combat already. I'm just in the rewriting phase right now

#

Thank you for the suggestion though!

#

Speaking of rewriting I just wrote the greatest sentence that anybody can ever write in a module

#

"This has no mechanical benefit but will make the players happy"

livid juniper
#

And then watch as the players manage to come up with some unspeakably broken way to use it anyway

plush ibex
#

God that would be so cool

#

Alright another 3 pages down

#

Only.... Checks notes another 11 missions to rewrite

Exciting news all! We expect the campaign beta release to be in Quarter 2 of this year! In preparation for this, starting in March a small testing team and I will be doing a “dress rehearsal” run-through of the entire campaign, to give it a final test.

When the beta module is done, it will go on sale for $15. Once the “dress rehearsal” campaign + other campaign feedback will be compiled and any needed changes will be made. The final version of the module will increase in price, and should be available in print copies, as well as a pdf. The LCP and player’s guide will always be free, only the GM manual will be paid content.

I've gotten 4 pages down in as many hours today!!!

I'm really pretty happy with my pace. I'm on page 62 of the estimated 170 narrative pages

Alright, I feel very shaky sharing some of my writing, but here is a character portrait I wrote earlier. It isn't great, but

PROFESSIONAL FUCKUP
Andy is 6’8 and a stringbean. He is wearing a leather blazer with no sleeves and no shirt underneath it, and thinning black hair, done up in a pompadour. Andy is a warm person, with love in his heart, though he is often initially politely standoffish. He is extrodinarily protective of Vassif. Finally, Andy just messes about everything up, unless it is specificially a thing Vassif explicitly told him to do. He routinely messes up orders at the Opal Airlines Pub, even simple ones. Once a patron asked for “literally any beer” and Andy brought him a thousand manna bottle of champagne instead.

MOTIVATION: Andy doesn’t even know why he’s helping Vassif anymore. It used to be a major favor—Vassif helped Andy’s adopted son afford life-saving healthcare—but now its just out of habit, or maybe love and adoration for the man.

MANNERISMS: Andy has a terrible stutter, but it gets better when he is doing exactly what Vassif told him too. You can guage how far what he is doing from his orders based on how much he stutters. Players can notice this passively, or through rolling an appropriate skill check.

QUOTE: “I-I-I-I am-m-m-m-m-m p-p-p-leas-s-s-ed-d-d t-t-t-o m-m-eet y-you.”

So Vassif explains better how to do things is it a motivation thing?

plush ibex
#

I'm sorry, I'm super under caffeinated and having trouble parsing this. Andy just only puts in full effort when Vassif is telling him to do something explicitly

Today is the day I send a portion of my module to my editor to get a solid vertical slice :)

Did my final accounting for all things I have in progress and I've come in exactly $50 over budget. That's pretty good, if I say so myself!

I've been wondering if HORUS could mix a Ghengis with their own stuff to create the HORUS Dragon?

Hey, so I was messing around with the LCP and the Book, and noticed that the Sobiseki in the book has 8 SP, but only has 6 in the LCP. Which is correct?

the Horus mechs fill me with a weird sense of joy because they're all so creative in their theme, a Barb that focuses on making terrain instead of breaking it, the Archon which is the bizzare child of Horus, an Enkidu, and a blackbeard all rolled into one

In the LCP, the NPC systems don't have tags, and all of the systems, traits, and weapons (even the base ones) are listed as "optional".

#

Also, the weapons don't have sizes.

plush ibex
#

Which ones? And what version?

#

Because they should all have tags in 0. 7. 9

#

Regarding the weapon sizes yeah I'm not showing those now but I definitely added them and they were showing up fairly recently. I wonder if I did something just wrong enough and an update broke it

#

I am seeing tags

#

And I'm also showing that everything is optional. This should not be the case as many of these have always only been base and that data has not been updated since then

#

Thanks for the update. I'll take a look at this when I'm back from work this morning

#

Still, please let me know what systems don't appear to have tags and where. If it is in something like active mode or encounter creator that's important for me to know, because I am seeing everything with tags on my phone

Okay, I'm on 0.5.4. I don't know how that happened.

Just found this today! Is the Dragut supposed to be a Duskwing Alt Frame? Because it looks more like a Metalmark Alt.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't an issue with the COMP/CON file.
