It's really obtuse and bizarre that only monks can grow vegetables.
They're a staple of the human diet worldwide, and the first thing that is grown in any new settlement.
Please add them to the common progression tree as an alternative to fishing.

If it wasn't so late in development and the game released, I'd honestly say berries and vegetables should be swapped around.

Berries should be a middle tier unlock for citizens and other higher titles, as they are more a luxury due to how hard it is to keep fresh fruits in a good state, and should be used to create dishes and drinks in the tavern, and monastic cook houses where as vegetables are a staple for peasants the world over and should of been the tier 1 food source instead of berries.

Would be cool too if you could add vegetable gardens or chickens to residential areas.

Vegetables definitely seem a bit underwhelming right now. They're a 3rd rustic food option, but you really only need 1 rustic food type to focus on. The farms take up more space than berry gatherers or fishing huts (although they have an edge on fishing in that they can be placed on land). Even if you want your villagers to sell them rather than eat them, they can only be sold to Kinstone Abbey, meaning you can at most only sell 275 at once and only for 1g a piece. Which results in few opportunities for long term profits.

Would be cool if they moved vegetables to Common path like you say, and maybe give monks a cheese production building instead. (Cheesemakers already exist, but monks already have berry gardens when berry gatherers already exist, so I don't see it as being an issue)

extra points if the monk cheese building has a smaller building footprint than the current one

I agree that vegetables should be common path. That said, my vegetable planters never seem to plant for their entire lotted size (unlike other farms). The space is not too large. That said, I always have a ton of vegetables so I am usually trading them away (along with wax and honey).
