abyss cycles across many different scenarios, twice a week, each emphasizing a different team. That's how they keep a wide variety relevant

since a patch is now 9 weeks, there's 18 scenarios in a patch

usually a new release can have dps scenarios for 4 of these scenarios, which doesn't sound like much

but it declines after and you may only see 1 or 2 in later patches

of course you can still use a valk decently for non best scenarios especially if you don't have much

That's very nice bcs it's a very old game, but at the same time as a new player basically it's feels like it will take a very long time to reach the end game, much more than most games, idk if it's just the impression I get or if it indeed take, like, a year long to have a somewhat decent roaster for a constant changing type focus endgame

but at that point multiple valks can serve there and not just the backpull you were fixated on

at a top level it will take a while but for just getting something decent like A3 or even RL, you don't need the best to get by

people used to say just having one well built team can be enough to achieve RL although i would say achieving RL isn't really the main goal. It's staying in it

but anyway with how the astral ring system is like now, valks are highly flexible

and from a few valks you can generate multiple teams just by cycling who is the leader (assuming they all match each other)

I'm still finding it difficult to get to RL despite having a team of all new units

is there anything I can do to get stronger or do I just gotta keep chipping at it?

PAWS and FDD are fully built but HLE is currently on 50/45/50 stig levels

Even with a not so developed roaster I am indeed able to progress decently in the end game, I might not, for a while, get ALL rewards, but I will eventually and even with a not that much complex roaster of valks theoretically do most of it

making it very hard for a normal player to actually follow his dmg

keep in mind optimizing damage in hi3 is about finding the best fit of actions for the boss hp. But if the boss hp is constantly being changed via disturbance, then fine optimizations will always be different even on a repeated weather scenario. This is why repeating a general rotation mindlessly won't achieve the highest scores

I think you can skip the PS WA in part 1, you don’t need the stellar drain because you’re not instantly outbursting so that might save you a handful of points

In SO I would also go FDD instead of PS and… probably instantly ult since it looks like you’re overkilling

Might also steal you a few points there

The longer you hold the ult for the more arrows. More arrows = more damage, but if you don’t need more damage you can get away with not fully pulling back. So you might be able to do 5 arrows -> FDD Ult -> all arrows. Or that might underkill and not work

easiest way to check is see if upgrading the piece results in your team elemental dmg increasing

if chinese text had it wrong, then your team dmg increases after upgrading middle piece for elemental dmg

if english text wrong, then your dmg dont change

in the past, in most cases though english text were the ones that wrong

If you have or plan to get HoHE dkey, her, tho that’s not recommended. If you don’t then Hotr is probably more useful but don’t expect much more than Ma cope

HotR is also a fire/lightning support which is why she’s probably a little better for you

General Info

• Disclaimer, I'm in NA server. My perception may be more lax/warped compared to other servers.
• This guide is big but overall, either options are niche. Don't stress too much.
• If you don't know abbreviations, [please refer to glossary ](#👶beginner-help message)
• You cannot collect this box directly into your inventory to keep it forever. You MUST make a decision and claim something before the deadline from the event page.
  • We have until the end of this year for when box is no longer claimable. No need to rush right now. In that time we will probably get news of the next patch that may influence this decision. Therefore, I encourage waiting until then at the very least.
• If you want to try out either valks before picking, check out their tutorials via Main Bridge Menu > Attack > Events tab > Tactics Class
• A valk dupe, 5 stamps, or 50 fragments are needed for each of the following jumps in ranks: S0 > S2 > SS > SS1 > SS2 > SS3 > SSS
• Ancient Willpower should NOT be considered here. This is one of the main currencies for [War Treasury shop](#👶beginner-help message) that is more available via [other sources](#👶beginner-help message) (e.g. Memorial Arena, Asterite shop). Both HoHE and HoTr are NOT available to get from WT shop.
  • Beware WT shop is weekly gated. Getting more AW isn't going to rank up a valk there faster if you're already buying the max frags per week.
  • There's no need to max buy fragments per week there either since none of the valks there have any general urgent significant uses.
• Regarding stamps:
  • You can NOT use stamps to unlock a valk you do not own yet. Stamps only convert into fragments for valks you already own.
  • You may be able to achieve a significant rank from the combination of the box and other sources.

• For the later 3 boxes, do NOT pick crystals. Pick blue or pink supply cards. Each card is worth 280 crystals, so 5 cards totals to 1400 crystals worth which is more than 1200. The cards have restricted use but you don't get enough for that to matter
• Be sure to confirm (not same as claiming), or it'll default to crystals and AW

Actual Considerations

(read downward in order)

First of all, again just wait. We have alot of time and are still waiting for next patch's news. No need to pick right now.

Are you a very casual player with ZERO interest in the meta?
Do you take frequent breaks from the game or don't plan to play for very long?
Do you have a VERY strong favorite of these two?

• If yes to any of these, just pick whoever you want.

For New Players:

• Wait until we get info on next patch.
  • Next valk is ||lightning, which HoTr can support. Currently unsure if it's worth for budget||
• Are you spending money?
  • Consider Elysia from Level Rush, then get Bronya from this box.
  • Even if you cannot build a valk to be used in the meta, you may still appreciate them for one time crystals from Elysian Realm, as well as for Dorm Squad/Errands.
• (NOT recommended) Do you plan to [backpull (pull reruns)](#👶beginner-help message)?
  • Flawless Benediction > Elysia (this is [NOT related to Key of Ego that you can get for free from the weapon box](#👶beginner-help message))
  • Waxing Moon (for HoFi Kiana) > maybe Bronya (HoFi can have other uses w/o HoTr)
• Do you care about missable crystals?
  • pick Elysia [for Starter Manual mission for 30 crystals.](#🎮honkai-chat message)

For Herrscher of Human Ego (HoHE):

Do you already own (or plan to get, [although it is not recommended](#👶beginner-help message)) her Stellar Key (Flawless Benediction)?

• If you already own her Stellar Key but somehow don't already have her (idk, maybe you planned for this beforehand), then get HoHE (at worst, for now she still has unique weakpoint utility against MHT-2B Tank of all Astral Ring valks).
• If you don't have her Stellar Key, HoHE has no meta uses.
  Do you also own ALL of the following?
• MPS Thelema w/ signature weapon [(HoHE depends greatly on her)](#👶beginner-help message)
  • Valk available in spending event
  • Valk and weapon available in paid battlepass (not solely recommended)
  • Competitive standards are hazily in the S.2 to SS.2 range due to the past carnivals and raffles people could (with luck) further get her from.
• For Nirvana tier, S.0 DAFL Senadina
  • For RL and below, maybe other Shadow Star supports can be enough.
• For Nirvana tier, can greatly consider more if you have SS Serapeum
  • Serapeum will rerun on week 3 of this patch (not recommended)
  • Not strictly a requirement. I personally retained a few cycles without Sera but it is incredibly uphill.
• For Nirvana tier, can consider a bit more if you have SS.0 LP Vita (but this is niche)
  • Vita is available from Carnival ([not recommended](#👶beginner-help message) outside of free pulls)
    ALL of the above are NOT recommended to go out of your way for. If you have to pay a huge cost for ANY of them, do NOT bother.

What rank can the box make your HoHE reach?

• If you need more stamps, consider Reserve Works (5) and Pure Witch Orb shops (8) too.
• For F2P veteran players, I'm personally at SS2 before the box.
  • S.1 has personal breach. You will get this along the way to S.2.
  • SS.0 is significant. I personally consider this barest minimum (not safe. You only have an unlikely chance without additional notable investment on the team) to retain at Nirvana tier.
  • All other ranks to SSS are still appreciated. Even a slight amount can be the significant difference for rankings, or avoiding a huge time loss from a boss dps check (e.g. Heph)
    Are you interested in the following scenarios:
• Ice/Type Counter RPC
• Type Counter Kasumi
• Ice Hephaestus
• Shadow Star MHT-2B (Tank)
  -# [Ranged Kalpas is coming up](#💁gameplay-help message) but HLE should take that cycle. Maybe a well invested HoHE can still be viable to consider?
• Fire or Flux Tank (support HoHE)
• This list is not exhaustive. Hoyo can repeat or hibernate a specific scenario, make a new scenario, or have a new release replace existing coverage. Overall expect use cases to be niche.
  Consider HoHE, but read below for HoTr.

For Herrscher of Truth (HoTr, Bronya):

Do you own the following?

• Full HoTr signature gears

  • If you lack HoTr's weapon, you may compensate by changing how you play her slightly. See Fragile's guide.
  • Available in Reserve Works shop (not recommended)
    === One of the following or both ===

• HoFi w/ Stellar Key (Waxing Moon)

  • For Nirvana, I consider S.2 to be minimum as main dps but higher is appreciated.
  • Stamps can be from Reserve Works.

• HoO w/ full signature gears

  • Weapon and stigs available in Reserve Works (not recommended)
  • Stamps can be from Reserve Works, Pure Witch Orb, and Elysian Realm shops.
  • For main dps, S2 is significant.
  • For Nirvana, SS is significant but higher is appreciated

• FoV Fu Hua

  • For Nirvana, SS.0 is the competitive standard. S.0 can still be serviceable.

• TFM Sparkle

  • Available in Carnival ([not recommended](#👶beginner-help message))
    ===
    ALL of the above are NOT recommended to go out of your way for. If you have to pay a huge cost for ANY of them, do NOT bother.

What rank can the box make your HoTr reach?

• Consider Reserve Works (5) for more stamps.
• Rank thresholds
  • S.2 provides more personal SP to sustain her ult. Notable for non-herrscher trio teams (FoV).
  • SS.0 is the meta standard for more team breach. I personally consider this minimum for Nirvana.
  • SSS can enable an additional ult for a 3 rotation fight for non Herrscher trio teams. Note the description here as a possible example. This is also a huge cost to reach from SS, and HoTr use cases have declined greatly, ||possibly moreso with next patch's release, check#🔮cn-gameplay-discussion pins)||. Even in MA, HoTr has been phased out of flower, bull, and HoDom fights.
    Are you interested in the following scenarios:
• IMG Husk Existentialism (flower)
• Starless Rimestar
• This list is not exhaustive. [Hoyo can repeat or hibernate a specific scenario, make a new scenario, or have a new release replace existing coverage.](#💁gameplay-help message) Overall expect use cases to be niche.
  Consider HoTr, but read above for HoHE.

Combined Considerations:

• Regardless of the above considerations, first wait and see if any specific scenario actually shows up so you can directly assess if you need more for it. You may have to deviate from general recommendations for a specific personal scenario.
• If you lack the team(s)/gears for one of the valks, consider abandoning them in favor of the other until either SS HoTr or SSS HoHE.
  • For Nirvana, you may similarly abandon one of them if they are at S.0.
• Prioritize SS.0 of the valk that matches the above, especially for Nirvana. SS.0 for both cases are probably too significant and competitively common there.
  • If both are viable, then evaluate your alternative stamp sources (maybe you can use box for SS.0 HoTr and PWO for SS.0 HoHE?).
  • If no other stamps are reasonable, you will have to personally decide which scenarios you're most interested in investing more.
• If both cannot reach SS.0, pick the one that has higher teamwide (including gears and ranks) investments that can attempt to compensate for the lack of ranks.
  Feel free to elaborate and ask for a second opinion in the help channels too.

Will HoTr get a new Stellar Key?

• For future officially confirmed news, please check #🔮cn-gameplay-discussion pins.
  • If you have seen other people say something that isn't already confirmed there, then this may be speculations or leaks. Keep in mind this is an official server and leaks are strictly forbidden here.
• I cannot say it is impossible, but for now there is no future news of it.
• I personally find it unlikely. While HoTr does have the Herrscher label, she was released closely with HoFi and HoO. HoFi already got her Stellar Key. I don't really recognize HoTr or HoO as primary Herrscher releases like other Herrschers in the game.
• HoRb was released much later at expected new Herrscher timings and now she is getting her Stellar Key too.
• However, these developments don't happen in a set order. HoFi got her Stellar Key before HoHE, whereas the release dates for these valks are reversed.
  • Similarly, TP Theresa got her PRI arm upgrade after she was already replaced by BKE and Abyss Flower.
• Some people are even speculating non Herrschers such as LV to get Stellar Keys too. Hoyoverse can be pretty arbitrary in their designs and decisions so it's not impossible but similarly there's no evidence or hints to this either currently. Don't completely weight yourself upon on empty speculations.
• Overall I recommend you to wait for now, or otherwise stick with facts when making your decisions. Ultimately it's up to you though.

Why HoHE as a main dps highly desires MPS Thelema for her matchups.

• Thele is available via [spending event](#👶beginner-help message) or paid battle pass
• Thele requires her signature weapon for alot of her functionalities:
  • Provides personal damage which sounds odd when considering HoHE support. However HoHE's damage in non-outburst state is terrible, so Thelema does most of the damage while waiting for outburst instead. Edit: HLE can also do this.
  • Allows Thele to restore 2 additional Astral Ring Intensity (outburst energy) per ultimate evasion, [allowing her to farm off of specific enemy attacks](#💁gameplay-help message)
  • Causes 3s time stop after Thele ults, boosting the above two functions
  • Reduces the sp cost to 70 to cast her first ult in the fight, significant for Memorial Arena
  • Currently available in paid BP
• HoHE's isn't able to freeze in a practical manner, and relies on Thele to do so for matchups that wants freeze for specific boss gimmicks (Heph, Kalpas). Edit: HLE as a support can now take this role too, lessening the need for Thelema.
• Thele has a passive that also improves the team's shield breaking ability. Notable against Kasumi.
• F2p/light spending meta wise I do NOT recommend going out of your way to get a functional Thele at this point. If you're not already buying the battlepass, [there's better ways to spend your money for higher crystal efficiency](#👶beginner-help message) for higher worth newer releases.

Captain, please stop now!
Building pity is a really bad idea. It’s better to save those juicy crystals for what you are actually planning to get.

There are many reasons to not build pity. It's not worth it in 99% of situations.
Please read them and reconsider whether you actually need to build pity:

• Some banners do not carry pity into others, Please confirm it carries over before even considering building pity.
• There are events with added rewards for rolling during their durations. Any pity built beforehand will not count towards them!
• Building pity will risk getting "lucky" with the Valkyrie/weapon early. This resets your pity. A dupe or an incomplete Valkyrie will not be greatly beneficial!
• If opting to build pity on a weapon supply, it's likely to miss out on later newer stigmas and end up overspending rolls or crafting materials to get them.

-# Depending on the situation, you can build pity during a spending event to reach a certain milestone. Please ask a St. Freya Professor before making any decisions as crystals could go toward units that are more worthwhile.

HoRb with her new weapon behaves very differently from before. Don't try to relate it. Treat it as something new. Astral Ring features are very different from before.

All valks with astral ring can be either support or dps. This depends on where you put them on the team. Valkyries are dps when placed in the leader slot. Valkyries are supports when placed in any not-leader slot.

carnival patches are just really nice to reroll on since usually one of them is useful enough that you're happy to start an account with them

sparkle was one of the better starting valk tbh

full team right away

starting with PAW was harder

In the meantime you can work on unlocking this and grab her weapon from story while you are at it... It's not too long in part 2 until you unlock it..
