im always so mixed on ZZZ's story, because theres lots of it i dislike and it feels like a lot of NPCs are needlessly turned evil, and then every couple of patches theres a story or scene that is rlly good

I LOVED Isolde's story and that whole patch... up until the reveal ||that she was working with the Exaltists, as it felt so out of nowhere as up till then she was this sort of lawful evil character, but making her a part of the big bad evil cult as opposed to a more morally grey character ruined her for me|| (spoilers bc its a pretty big part of story and idk if many ppl have played zzz)

for me my issue with ZZZ and this is my tastes not fact but how i feel and see it I think ZZZ is perhaps just not to my tastes in certain ways it handles itself. For example the games clearly themed around film it has a reverence and love for film and thats why it centers on our protagonists who run a movie rental and the use of film and movies as a basis and passion behind ZZZs identity runs deep in its writing philosophy, except in rare cases the story is written generally structured like "movies" the story while continuous feels episodic with each update being sort of like a single film by itself

the issue i take with this structure is zzz chooses that episodic nature with all the flaws that come with it

such as antagonist of the week whos not a focus and is shallow

astranomical moment is a great example 1.5

strongly agree with this, in some cases like astra story i think it really works and in other ones like the Blazewood stuff

astra story worked as a way to weave in nice worldbuilding to a world with an already heavy focus on music, while not relying too heavily on tying in to main story, Blazewood felt like a story with no real repercussions on the main plot except introducing new characters and a new area and killing off pompey

mhm and that's the thing ZZZ does that makes it so complicated and sort of a love hate relationship for me

what it does focus on and give full attention is "often" amazing and super well done especially with the high production

but because it chooses to be shorter "generally" and episodic in structure and tries to self contain each story certain stories have aspects that go weaker because they clearly were sacrificed for the desired intention of the story focus

for example astra's msq in 1.5 is clearly INTENDED to be MAINLY about the relationship between her and evelyn and the story of how someone can be dragged from the depths of a meaningless life/being the damned/losing faith back into the light and live a truely meaningful life

but because it only cared about its one central focus the villain is kinda shafted and shes really one note and not that interesting and feels a bit forced

the villains to zzzs story tend to exist to push the plot in general

i feel like 2.x both improved and was worse in this sense, all the plot threads felt more connected becaus eof porcelumex and the exaltists, but it also felt like they really dragged out the exaltists, as they were defeated in 2.3 iirc but were still around for more, and lots of the ties felt weaker in patches like Lucia/Yidhari, which i barely remember the story of except the bits with Lucia's dad

this ones a very subjective take on my part and maybe I might change my mind upon repeat viewings as I have realized perception is super malleable and you could dislike something only to find out that you actually like it later

but I really am not a fan of how the exaltists took over zzzs narrative it was a shift that I just dont feel like a fan of personally

I really liked how launch zzz up to 1.2 felt like a story about how humanity is its own worst enemy due to our failings philosophically/ethically/morally and how the greed of man persists even in the worst situations

this is where i feel agent stories really excell, theyre not tied to the main story so can have the time to really dive deep into the characters and world, and since they dont really have to have a 'final boss' theres no real need for something to drive into the narrative

it feels like theres no real moral greyness in zzz (this is also a problem in other hoyo games) the most morally grey character we have playable is... Hugo. And we have groups like Porcelumex and Krampus who are corporations, but they have good people in them.|| It feels like its so black and white, and if a character is more morally grey they either flip over to being pure good, or become a boss who we kill off sadly||

ZZZ I played at launch and have followed it live from the launch day so I can tell how I felt at specific points and I definitely feel like launch had a very different tone than what came after, I actually remember feeling like 1.1 felt "random and out of place" when it came out as the first update even though I did enjoy it

ZZZ launch felt more gritty and serious and really sold that sort of cyberpunky vibe with the political issues and modern life issues taking full center focus

not that it wasn't goofy cus it was maybe even more so lol but its just that it felt like it was doing something more "meaningful" at first ig

but that's just feelings on my part

the road for ZZZ feels really strange honestly, I also remember how shocking it felt for 1.4 to be the "end of an arc" the way its presented it sent me on a real tailspin because it felt "too soon for a curtain call"

[ZZZ] ||tbh I think what Isolde did is more than just revenge… she possibly prevented a similar scenario from occurring again; maybe if you’re familiar with Crime and Punishment, the main premise of the story there is that someone commits a crime and it was a scenario where it was a crime against an actual evil, but whom the law couldn’t stop in any way or manner and so the main character took it upon himself to judge, which broke him mentally afterward, his conscience couldn’t bear his act… but at the end the crime he committed saved other souls. Now in my eyes it is a moral dilemma and things are not so simple and overall this act was morally grey and so was Isolde’s in my eyes as well. She did some bad in the process, but she also cut out some cancer which was in the system. I think she’s a great character. Only wish she’d be playable. ||

yes to me hsr is the best story ever period across all media formats and across my entire experience of all media which is quite expansive as enjoying stories and analyzing/understading/breaking them down has been my passion since i was 5 (i'm 26)

I've played through ff14 all the way to current, all the metal gears, all the silent hills, all the fromsoft titles from demons souls forward, i've seen most of the iconic/important films of cinema history

if its known/iconic/important i've probably seen it/played it as I chase that to increase my knowledge base

to me Amphoreus is the peak period

Part 2 Chapter 3 Finale for me was the highlight of the HI3rd experience so far, but atm I don’t enjoy it too much… now I do have trust in it and will continue reading it further, but I think it was much more interesting pre-3EX
other than that my other favourite parts of HI3rd were Bronya’s adventures in the Sea of Quanta and Arc Nocturne

I think a bit of both is true, sometimes you need a lot of words and lengthy texts, sometimes fewer words would make it do, my problem with HSR’s story-telling is, is that it knows no difference and is being lengthy everywhere

because hsr is excessively deep and is trying to teach you about life and have you ponder philosophy in such a way that its trying to get you to come to self discovery on the real life side, it uses purple prose and "proverb" esque dialogue because it's trying to provoke deep thought in the audience, the purpose of these long debate like talks in hsr is because the entire game is about philosophy and it's purpose is to make you think

one problem with amphoreus is how hard the story is to follow. First of all, because it's split between multiple patches, there's a really long time between different segments of the story, especially for those who do the story on release. You forget a lot of details and key information that's really important for the next segment

2nd of all, at times it feels like I'm reading a Master's thesis instead of a story, with a lot of new concepts constantly being introduced
