Admin, if this isn't allowed, please delete it. But, I want to let everyone know that there's a new update within the Discord setting. They have added Clips (BETA) into the platform. This option allows other users to record your voice when you're in voicechat WITHOUT your knowledge or consent. This setting turned ON as DEFAULT.

I suggest that you all change this to OFF if you don't want your voice to be recorded without your knowledge or consent.

To do so, you click on SETTING > CLIPS> TOGGLE TO OFF

Yeah, I believe the idea is that since this is a discord community, there is no expectation of privacy as it is not different to being recorded in a public setting like the park, your local McDonalds, etc. In a private DM/Group Chat, there is that expectation of privacy.

So in theory, it's not breaking any laws or rules.

However, it is down to the admins here if they are fine with the idea of members being recorded without their knowledge.

As others have said, #1097359599687975062 is where any serious discussion on balance, gameplay, etc should live. Yes, there is some more 'memey' threads like the Wiwwia one, but any serious discussion should go there to be organized and actually discoverable. We did this because any serious convos were quickly drowned out with how fast #⬫┆gameplay-discussion can move.

I do get what you mean though about a 'serious only' channel/forum channel/rank based channel that we more heavily moderate. That leads into two main problems.

Problem 1: Moderation

Having a section of the server with heavy moderation to make sure it's 24/7 on topic, serious, and proper discussion is... virtually impossible. Things will slip, and additionally, it can be hard for us to judge what's serious enough, what's 'legitimate discussion' enough. The honest truth is, high ELO doesn't promise you can make a good argument, or that you're not going to make a silly statement you may be factually wrong about.

Problem 2: User Engagement

When you have something with much heavier moderation, one that requires users to iron out exactly what they're saying and have a conductive, productive, and thorough conversation covering their own bases, it's a genuine deterrent to people actually using the channel. People will avoid it because it seems too high-stress/complicated/don't want to mess up. Or, they want to talk about balance but don't think it's 'deep' enough to go through such extensive effort.

I'd like to clarify that I am 100% aware Discord and forumsites are different, and can have different results. But the LoL Forums did try something like this before. We had Gameplay+, a forum where you had to follow a list of rules to post (give good arguments, be concise, facilitate a discussion, and the post itself had to be of substance and eloquent enough to get your point across). While the discussions there were great, it very quickly virtually died because it was just too high effort for most people, and those it wasn't high effort for weren't exactly putting enough effort in to make the forum section worth it.

I think it really depends on both how it would be implemented, how many extra channels there are, and activity of the users using it.

As you mentioned Cien is the main one moderating that; moderation on some of the side channels is just not as much as #⬫┆general or VCs

So we already have not a lot of mods actively in other channels, then you add like 4 more channels...

And that's not a fault of mods btw! This is a volunteer position and it's natural to moderate channels you're involved with/understand well/enjoy being in 😅

Well, i would believe the mod workload will not be that big. I would imagine it is more about setting a standard for communication and engagement, and most people will follow along. I'm not really informed about this though, just my assumption.

I'm would not be opposed to having the role channels be a little more casual either. Nonetheless what i personally would value the most is to have a place where you can talk to other people who play the role.

As you said #⬫┆gameplay-discussion moves at a really fast speed so it is virtually impossible to hold serious discussions 90% of the time, and for a server of this size, i don't think it's due to a lack of engagement.

For in-depth improvement and role specific discussions, there’s communities dedicated to that such as summoner school. The reason I'm typing all of this is out, is because to me it seems like the server accepts file uploads when it comes from the user as source, but not when it is a video that has previously already been uploaded to discord and just copypasted, it is the exact same thing.

If you're worried about video files being infected, you'd also have to restrict the upload when coming directly from the user and not just discord.
