Tips in a nutshell: On stage 1 rush for the Topaz brooches, then go about grabbing everything else. It might be better to just grab the brooches and then head straight for the Beetle Queen.
Stage 2, immediately kill the crystal next to you and haul ass to the brooch printer in the tunnel. Turn all your whites into brooches, grab Preon (it's in the storage container) and the fuel cell on the cliff next to it, then work your way through all of the chests as it charges. Use one charge on the Overloading Dunestrider and then weaken it until it has about 3000 HP left. If your HP runs low, use your Shift on the barrels. Use the second charge and haul ass to the teleporter, should be done.
...Also avoid the imps at all costs, they can bleed you through the Brooch.

Shiiiieeet.... Everything about this run went perfectly except again, the dunestrider. This time, the fight even went well, and I kept my barrier up... But the dunestrider walked to the side during the first accumulator shot, and it missed. I figured I might be able to recover the run if I just beat him up enough, but then I ran out of things to kill for barrier, other than some golems and a bighorn that were near the dunestrider. I used my other accumulator shot to hit them all, but then I got hit by the dunestrider's attacks, so I needed more barrier. While I was getting more barrier from the bombs, dunestriders shields recharged. The run technically isn't over, but the teleporter is at 99% so no more enemies are spawning, and my accumulator is fully depleted

The route for the merc challenge is based around getting a bunch of topaz brooch (there's a brooch 3d printer in the second stage) and then bursting the boss down quickly with a fuel cell and a preon accumulator
To burst the overloading dunestrider, hit him with one charge of accumulator, then damage him until he's in lethal range for the second accumulator

Personally I disagree with iforgotwho's route. I think the brooches are really important. I went all the way up to 8 on my run.
There's a video in pins which I think is easier
Not that it's a bad route, but I think the extra brooches are especially helpful

with a properly timed preon and good positioning you get more than enough shields when the dune fight starts
but really it doesnt matter if you want the extra padding go for it

m2 might be dashing out of the blast radius
but I just used R and Shift because they always work
in 1st stage, you can do like 2 M1 combos with an M2 in there and then R to kill it

the prismatic trail achievment for merc is so RNG
honestly im surprised im close to a completed run with only 2 hours practice
i think the strategy ive come up with is pretty sound though.
the problem is entirely around enemy spawns.

first time i made it to the 2nd stage boss an enemy spawned in front of my preon shot
and then the dunestrider decided to do the lifesteal attack twice in one life bc i guess life hates me

you can skip the lifesteal attack by using the 2nd preon to wipe out enough of its HP at once

sadly both preons didnt do the job for me, but i ended up being able to out-dps the heal anyways and finally took home the victory eventually

my strat for the run is to grab the hoof immediatly. cross the bridge, grab the topaz. destroy the crystal in the tunnel. grab the flag, head back up, grind a few lemurians. get the fuel. head down. destroy the two crystals, get the drone to distract enemies. which takes about a minuite and a half. hit TP, grind some brooch shields and when i have pouldron active pound the boss. takes about 4 mins in total. takes so long because im trying to be safe over being speedy. after that i head into snowy place, leave the gaurd to grink enemies up. go destroy the all the crystals for cash, get the preon. and after i get enough. buy the big drone to quickly kill the boss with no actual danger to me. the seccond map is actually somewhat faster than the first because of how quickly the boss dies.
testing it. it took about 10 mins total.

yeah my strat and probably the more common one involves getting double preon, a couple of brooches and using the shield you get from firing the first one into the crowd of baddies to chunk the boss's health in melee enough for the 2nd shot to kill
