@echo geyser if it happens in 100% cases - likely game files corrupted. Run game files integrity check from steam.
If not - its a known bug, that should be fixed in 6 days. But it should happen on late game, and not on 4th stage. 🤷

hello recently i found out the reason why RoR2 is crashing and that the possible cause is its taking up to much memory or is well having a memory leak of some kind on my system and i seem to be the only one having this issue... not really sure what the problem is but after trying to rejoin my friends it will crash faster a few minutes later but then on the 3rd join back all i got was slowdown to a freeze. i know i should definitely meet system requirements but currently unsure if i just have faulty hardware or if its a extremely rare thing to happen i was running on the highest settings so that may have had something to do with it. i tried a reinstall it did not work

There is a major problem with private games. I have a friend that cannot do anything in a lobby if i'm the leader and vice versa. He has the same problem in public games. I read a steam community post from @pallid ibex about problems but it didn't help. Any ideas?

so i just got the game about a week ago on steam and its always crashed in game and the more i try to play it crashes more often. iv reinstalled it, scanned for viruses and hand none, and also verify integrity of game and it all hasn't done any thing. also i bought another game at the same time that has crashed a like 5 times on start up but i have over 40 hours on that game so its not really a problem for the other game i got.

no for both issues. Load on steam and therefore big delays in lobbys - not fixed. (Unknown when) Steam server losing connection to host/clyents and everybody kicked to blackscreen - not fixed (will be on 31)

@jovial crown define "Micro Stutters" Fps drops, input lag, connection to host?
Enable steam fps counter and see if fps drops when you move your mouse. Try unpluging the mouse while playing, move around with kayboard and see if drops present.
If you have mouse that got its own software - update it.
Disable G-sinc. Disable V-sinc (from game and from nvidia control panel. Put "performance" in power settings

already tried all of those options. Including unplugging everything (including ethernet cable) and I still get stuttering.

I'm using MSI afterburner to check my Frame rate and Frame Time graph. and what I mean by micro stutter is the game stopping for a split second every 4-5 seconds. It's super slight but im very sensitive to stutters, distracts me a lot

165 Hz, although I've tried changing ingame and it didnt let me...so I quit the game and changed to 144hz on the Nvidia settings and then checked in game to see if it changed and it did... although the stutters continued

Idlike to get answer on my question before you do all of the above. See if intervals of stutters increased when you enabled v-sinc. Also check that its capped at 165fps

tested the V-Sync solution, it did cap the frame rate to my refresh rate ( i've set it at 144hz) but the stutters still continue as you can see in the graph

When you using any mods that runs on BepinEXPack - you can not connect to quickplay and can not play prismatic trials.
^your version of game becomes "MOD" and its separate from vanila players. HOWEVER.. you can host for unmodded clyents if you install.. "unmodded clyents" mod
What about crashes and risks.. idk. I never used it. But the guy who made that mod continues to support it. If you gonna use modmanager - it will aoutomatically update it and frameworks needed for it.
There will be an update for the game (CU-content update) on march 31. So this mod might get broken. I dont know how it works, so i reccomed you to disable it for some time before CU and till the mod is updated too.

Ah also.. you need to know that current relise of the game crashes on late stages. Its unrelated to mods and will be fixed on march 31.

You can find players in #lfg-pc-ror2. Also your friends still can connect to you if you use unmodded clyents. And you will be able to connect to those who have this mod installed too.

What about fixing it.. i dont know if devs are aware about that. You better to ask Harb or Rein about it. Both on this server.

Devs are aware, but the way I addressed it with stutterstunter isn't foolproof enough to be a realistic solution for every single case (Which is what you need for something in vanilla) It is also a very very hardware dependent issue, most likely tied in to memory timings quite a bit. I have a rather beefy PC and still get them due to my ram not technically being compatible with my board.

That makes it quite difficult to pin down exactly what the root cause is.

@storm locustShouldnt be a problem, just set resolution to other modes whiting the game settings. If for some reason it's not working for you:

Open config file with notepad C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2\Risk of Rain 2_Data\Config\config.cfg Search for 19 line resolution 1280x720x75;
Rplace for your monitor resolution and framerate.
Make shure line 6 is resolution_scale 1;
Or delete this file (make a backup 1st) and run the game. You will need to set settings again.

Ive been playing RoR2 all week with my friends and we go to play today and we cant connect to eachother. The host of the game can connect fine but my friends just get a black screen and then get kicked to the main menu. Same goes for if they host and invite everyone as well

A friend(sarcomastogovor in game) is trying to join my multiplayer lobby and whenever he does it shows him in top right menu of players but it doesn't say he connected and thus he can't ready up or change character. On the other hand if I join his game it shows us all in but we can't switch characters or ready up. Thanks for any reply :)

is there a way for Risk of Rain 2 to not constantly detect my PS4 controller, or at least disables bindings specifically for the PS4 controller?
I'm using DS4Windows to change the input of my controller into that of an XBox 360 controller for program compatability reasons. Unfortunately, every time I make any input on my controller, it'll flicker between PS4 and XBox One input configurations

i am unable to play this game for more than 40 minutes as my game crashes, my gpu is running at 99% usage at all times with normal settings, even switching everything to lowest setting including 1/256 quality textures its running at 75% usage. I have a 1050ti and have tried all the things that other people have said to do: new graphics drivers, running steam in administrator mode. no matter what my game freezes at some random point far into the run when there is lots of stuff on screen it just crashes. any advice?

You have a naming issue in regards to the profile reading/generation. They're different now apparently. I copied the file name for a dummy profile and applied it to my old profile's .xml, it reads now, but I'm unsure of any other effects outside of it being able to be read currently

ok so im very new to this game (just baught it today)
and im having an issue that prevents me from enjoying the game in any way
around insane difficulty i get massive fps drops every 50 seconds or so
and when i say massive i mean i get about 4 frames per second for 5 to 10 seconds

I can launch the game but all i get to see is either literally nothing (when launched in fullscreen) or the game winwow is completely white but movable (when launched in windowed mode).
When launching in windowed mode for the whitescreen I can still interact with the game and hear the sound, i can also make screenshots through steam and the screenshots actually show me the gamescreen.
This problem persists for me now for months even after a clean windows re-install and checking for most solutions i found on different google searches for this kind of problem (not necessarily for ror2 since the same problem also applies to other steam games and initialy also to blizzard launcher games such as wow and d3 but those are fixed long ago)

Heya guys! Hope you can help.
My friend and I have been playing RoR2 (maybe using dedicated server, I dunno the difference, tbh) until February-March and all was fine. But then at some point we just couldn't - whenever we start the game, the host is playing just fine, but the other one experiences massive lags, can't exit the capsule for half a minute, shots fly through enemies, everyone teleports around the map etc.
What did we do wrong? Did we brake something? Can we fix it somehow?

I used to be able to solve the issue by binding all of the controls to a single axis and it would generally work, now I can't get to the settings menu so I'm at a dead end.

I activated the teleporter and beat the boss, after which my money started going down but before I teleported I gained more money, now my money is only going down one at a time at a fairly slow rate and I am not teleporting

I joined this discord just for this problem. Me and my friends have been playing Risk of Rain 2 for a while, without any problems. I took a long break from playing, and when I returned to play a run with my friends, I found that I could join thier lobby with relative ease, but when I get in, my character does not show up in the selection screen, while everyone else's does. When it does show up, it is incredibly late, and when i select other characters, it won't change aswell. I can't press anything like the Ready button, or difficulty settings. If I do end up readying after a minute or so after pressing the button, it eitehr stays as a black screen, or it shows everyone else landing in the game but me, and I seem to be limited to only spectator despite never even being in the game. When i tried hosting a game, everything ran fine, but all my friends had the same problem.

Hello! I've joined this server to help troubleshoot an issue for a dear acquaintance of mine. He has been getting the "EARLY_ACCESS_DISCLAIMER" glitch, preventing him from continuing to the main menu. While we are aware of the pinned post from last March addressing this issue, he has already tried (to no discernable avail) the method suggested in that message, in addition to:

Restarting his PC, reinstalling the game, deleting all his savefiles, deleting the game files and verifying, reinstalling all graphics drivers, reinstalling steam, and reinstalling the game on a different harddrive. The methods above that apply have been tried with steam cloud sync both on and off.

Having exhausted all of our ideas, I would greatly appreciate any knowledge or insights anyone has regarding this issue or other similar issues.

I managed to fix my early access disclaimer issue by making sure I had the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019 installed on my computer. I downloaded both the x86 and x64 for good measure and I can play the game again. Hope this works for anyone else experiencing this issue.

Hey I have a question!

My friend and I want to play a private match together, so I invite him into a group and click "private game"

I get in perfectly, everything works, however he can't choose a character or press ready. After 20 seconds or so we both get kicked into the main menu again!

We've already tried restarting, verifying the game files and reinstalling, but nothing works!

We can't use private lobby system. There isn't response with steam invite. Client can join lobby and see hosts name with lobby ID, but host can't see client's join message.

Only issue I get with multiplayer is that I can't properly connect to any of my friend's games and they can't join me. But if I join a game in progress as a spectator, it seems to work fine.

Having some trouble, wondered if someone could assist or if anyone else has the same issue with any fixes.

I can connect to a friend and said friend can connect to me.
However there is major delays for the non-host player (Monster lag, delays in skills, delays in exiting the pod at the start)
And the game is unplayable for us in multiplayer.

It works fine in Single player.

Any ideas? Or can I just put it down to early access? (It worked months ago when I last played).

I have the same problem as some others have stated. Multiplayer seems completely busted, in the sense that the host can play just fine, but other players have sagnificant delay when firing weapons/opening chests. Movement seemingly works just fine though, but we very unscientifically measured up to a 10 seconds delay when opening a chest. It seems to worsen a lot as the game goes on, being barely noticable in the first stage, but making the game completely unplayable by sixth stage. We played with the Command Artifact, but haven't tried without it.

Hey, does anyone know why my game doesnt start? Im running Arch Linux, and changing proton versions does not help. It worked flawlessly on Pop!_OS before the update, but then i switched to Arch and the game updated and now it doesnt work.

I joined this discord just for this problem. Me and my friends have been playing Risk of Rain 2 for a while, without any problems. I took a long break from playing, and when I returned to play a run with my friends, I found that I could join thier lobby with relative ease, but when I get in, my character does not show up in the selection screen, while everyone else's does. When it does show up, it is incredibly late, and when i select other characters, it won't change aswell. I can't press anything like the Ready button, or difficulty settings. If I do end up readying after a minute or so after pressing the button, it eitehr stays as a black screen, or it shows everyone else landing in the game but me, and I seem to be limited to only spectator despite never even being in the game. When i tried hosting a game, everything ran fine, but all my friends had the same problem. -I've restarted the game -I've restarting my computer -I verified integrity on steam -I've uninstalled and reinstalled -Ive reset my modem and router -I've got an entirely new modem and router
I have no idea what to do, so I came here in desperation
Also -I've tried playing on a differnet comupter (a laptop) -I've tried playing on the same laptop at a friend's house and it worked fine

Just downloaded the update a little while ago, have never modified the game in any way since I originally installed it a few months ago. After the update, the game won't launch at all. The executable is running, I can see it in Task Manager, but the game window never opens. it'll bring up a window with the third tab listed as local files

#

second to last is the option to verify integrity of game files (run this while the game is closed)

We 3 friends bought the game yesterday but unable to play together due to lagging, switching between the hosts didn't help.

this is a long shot but I noticed in comparing the output.log you uploaded to the one from my own copy of the game I'm noticing that mine fails to find Xinput1_4.dll and uses Xinput1_3.dll

in looking at your main menu screenshot I am seeing that it looks like the menu controls are unbound but I'm also noticing one of the messages at the bottom right says "unknown" instead of "unbound" which is making me think maybe the game is picking up on a joystick/controller somehow

try checking Devices and Printers in the control panel to see if it's displaying any sort of device like that

After playing last night, logged in this morning to find out that my profile is corrupted, so i made a new on and after playing one match that new profile i had also got corrupted. is anyone else suddenly dealing with microstutters after the artifacts update? it used to run smooth as butter but now i get really weird stutters (steam overlay doesnt tell me the fps drop however) - i have a really good pc that would handle stage 40 with ease

A friend of mine is also having problems with his game crashing on startup. So far I have had him:

uninstall the game
-wipe the local files
-deactivate his antivirus, reboot, reinstall

His game is not generating any crash.dmps. After the last re-install, the folders to find them have disappeared entirely.

BEFORE using this method, please make sure you're on the newest Graphics Driver for your GPU!

Right click on 'Risk of Rain 2' on Steam -> Properties -> General -> 'Set Launch Options'
Inside the field, type in:
-force-d3d9
It forces the game to run at DirectX9 instead of DirectX11 - ideally, a graphics driver update will let you run on DX11 since it's better.

1.Right click Risk of Rain 2 -> Properties
2.Click 'Browse Local Files'
3.Go to 'Risk of Rain2_Data' -> Config
4.Open 'autoexec.cfg' with Notepad
5. Put in the line r_msaa 0;
6. Save and close
