@orchid flame I think you go about this the wrong way: Your 1080ti will never be maxed out in RoR2, and why should it to begin with? There are simply not very many and/or demanding graphical effects to compute in this game. It's the CPU that is going to be driven up against the wall once the action starts. The CPU is the bottleneck, not the GPU, with RoR2 (same with RoR1).
@stoic cove Your save data is corrupted. This may be caused by your shutting down the game abruptly or another issue occured. You'd have to start out with a clean slate and/or cheat back in your unlocks manually. See pinned messages.

yes, the CPU is the bottleneck. I think it's related to AMD CPUs (read post). The game just doesn't want to use more than 20% of the CPU. I'm not sure what to do about it.

Not that I know of. The last announcements and patches always contained a bit of optimization work, though, on top of everything else. The June update is just around the corner. I expect things to get shaken up again.

This may be caused because you shut the game down abruptly or another issue occured. Please note that this will wipe your save file contents. If you want, back it up elsewhere.
- First, make sure Risk of Rain 2 is closed.
- Restart Steam.
- Next, locate the folder that your userprofiles are saved in. This is typically in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata(ACCOUNTNUMBER)\632360\remote\UserProfiles"
- There should be an xml file in there with a bunch of random characters, i.e 2919dc8a-fd4c-4c3c-bd7d-8aeeac67b831.xml. Open the .xml file in Notepad.
- Go to https://pastebin.com/BQkjgRrK and copy the contents of the Pastebin INTO the .xml file, REPLACING ALL THE EXISTING CONTENT. Press Save.
- Reopen the game in Steam.

Hey there, I seem to be having an issue with hosting games. I've reinstalled the game, verified games files and restarted the computer, and nothings seemed to have worked so far. We've tried steam invites, clipboard, desktop invites too and still nothing. Seems like I haven't been the only one recently where these methods haven't worked. I can join steam friends but I have a good 1-3 sec delay when using my primary and secondary weapons.
I've checked the discussions on steam and I can't really seem to find anything different to help.
Also anyone who tries to join me ends up with a black screen and they're eventually sent back to the main menu.

@rough night your friend maybe tryed to install some mod or manually changed descriptions of items and damaged files. In that case deleting those files and verifying game files might help. (library>right click>local files>verify integrity of game files.)

If anyone has got any ideas of what to do other than doing a hard reset to your computer (which should never be the case for an early access game or any game for that matter) please let us know. Are you using a freesync monitor by any chance? G-sync may have been enabled automatically and doesnt always play nice with freesync so go to your nvidia control panel and try disabling that if its enabled

If you have Nvidia you can launch the Nvidia control panel by right clicking on the desktop and clicking the icon->Manage 3D settings->program settings->select Risk of Rain 2 or add it:
set max pre-rendered frames to 1 or 2 (or a higher number if you have an old gpu)
set power management mode to prefer max performance
set texture filtering quality to high performance
turn on threaded optimization
turn off triple buffering and v-sync
if you run windows 10 go into your settings->gaming->uncheck record game clips... (i would do the same to any program that records your game for replays, unless that is your intent for the program) in your power plans i would also set it to high performance
it could also help to press windows key + r and type msconfig->services->check hide all Microsoft services-> and uncheck the unneeded ones, as well as going into the task manager->startup and disabling all of them tbh or the ones you do not use often, or also running something like ccleaner that will help clean up your pc
in discord you can also go to user settings->appearance->and turn off hardware acceleration (i would also do something similar for any web browsers)
i would also as a blanket statement just consider updating your drivers

Hey, I've been playing RoR2 for some 40 hours now, but today the game started to crash every run after I walk around the map for a minute or 2, I couldn't really make out a clear reason for the crash. Sometimes the game crashes normally and shows me a unity-crash-window for a few seconds, sometimes it freezes my pc entirely. @craggy bridge if you have the xml data go to where RoR2 is downloaded for me it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Risk of Rain 2, go into Risk of Rain 2_Data, Config, open config.cfg with notepad, paste the xml file name under user_profile_main (for me, this looks like user_profile_main 3a1aca00-7ae0-4367-a5a6-71e9e4ac3112;) don't forget the ";"
also, if it's not already in your user data put it in there. My xml file is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(bunch of numbers, the steam id that has RoR2)\632360\remote\UserProfiles

FIX First, try unplugging and then replugging your controller. If that does not fix it, look under Device manager and make sure there are no controllers. If you have VJOY installed, please uninstall it!

ror2 is absolutely refusing to open and start no matter what i do, it goes to a black screen and a loading cursor for like 5 seconds then just stops. sometimes it won't even do that. ive tried everything, validating the files, deleting evry remnant off of my computer, but nothing is working. i jus wanna play the game but at this point ive reinstalled over 10 times and it's crazy busted

@glass parrot RoR2 does spike GPU usage during launch, as the framerate cap isn't initialized until the Unity engine fully boots. Once you're in the menu proper, check to see if the issue persists.
@undone field When it stops loading, is it crashing to desktop, or just hanging? If it's just hanging, try leaving it for a minute or two, could just be loading. Otherwise try running in windowed mode to see if it helps.

I've had that problem only a couple times, usually because something else (like Discord voice) was stealing priority from the process, in my case through audio. Works fine as long as I don't hit push-to-talk during game load. Discord overlay can also cause issues sometimes.

You should be able to get vjoy from Sourceforge ( http://vjoystick.sourceforge.net/site/index.php/download-a-install/download ) working with it. It's been a long while since I touched that particular project though, so I probably won't be much help. Most of the stuff regarding Gamecube controllers on PC I can find is for Dolphin (A nintendo emulator).

hi. for some reason ror2 is only using about ~45% of my cpu and gpu, and it is really limiting my FPS (and enjoyment of the game), particularly late game. There are no frame rate limits or vsync, changing graphic settings doesn't do much whatsoever (I have gone from lowest to highest on 1080p with a minimal change in performance and component usage). My power supply is working fine, all of the rails are in check, the temps are good etc. It is using all 8 cores of my cpu on ~45% usage. idk what to do. In other games (e.g. apex legends), I get great performance with 80-99% cpu and gpu usage. my drivers are up to date too. pls help :))

@delicate spade If you're still having that issue, try just moving your mod folder out onto the desktop. I had the same issue, but with one that removes chests after being opened. After removing mods the new character appeared immediately.

so um... me and a friend seem to be having issues with multiplayer... when i go to multiplayer, sometimes all the menu stuff at the top right is gone. other times, if it's there and i invite a friend to my party, they claim to be in the party but i still have 3 open slots. if said friend invites me to their party instead, the top-right menu stuff goes away again and all of my bottom-left options gray out except "invite friends" and "back". if friend starts a private game while i'm like this, he goes to character select and i don't. if i click start private game while he claims to be in my party, i go to character select and he doesn't. i can't figure out if this is a me problem, a him problem, or a game problem... i can provide screenshots if necessary

Im having a problem when trying to play with only one friend, the other friends connect fine but when he tries to join his screen goes black and he gets booted back to the main menu. When i try to connect to him i also get booted back to the menu. There aren't any problems that we know of between our computers.

My game goes from 60 FPS to less than 3 depending on the number of entities alive. This is really frustrating as I’m basically confined to engineer because his turrets keep the enemy population down so that I can still maintain around 5-10 FPS late game, while with other characters I lag to hell and die in late game. I have everything in graphics turned down the lowest it will go and changed the resolution. Any idea why this is happening?

I've gotten a weird issue in the start of my run: my screen turned pitch black and the game minimized to the taskbar when I was in the Abandoned Aqueduct. It seems to have opened a second app who, when it finished loading, closed Ro2.
When I looked at my Event Log, it says there was an APPCRASH related issue, a faulty module of d3d11

Recent update has decreased performance and GPU utilization significantly for me, Before this update the game would utilize from 50 to 90% +/- of my RTX 2060 at max core clock speeds leaving me with 120-200 +/- FPS most of the time, now about 40 minutes up to a 1 hour and on in the run (Monsoon) the GPU utilization drops to 30-40% at maximum and core clocks drop as well leaving me with only un-stable 60 to 80 FPS on average which is dramatically jumping up and down constantly making the experience a living hell on my 144hz monitor. FIX that helped slightly was to play the game in windowed mode using a tool to make it "Windowed Fullscreen" but it's not perfect and doesn't completely fix the performance issues.

The thing is, RoR 2 isn't GPU-bound. It's all about the CPU. For me, the recent update has increased performance across the board.
@meager iron Make sure to disable V-sync and update your graphics drivers. Thermal problems with the rig should be eliminated too (dust it off). It's the summer, it's hot.

hey I was wondering if anyone else had this issue? My mouse controls on the menu have suddenly turned up the smoothing to 11 and when I try to play, it lists all the controls as Unknown even though I don't have a controller even connected to the computer and my camera keeps on panning downwards. hello, i've been having trouble connecting to 1 friend in particular. anytime I join his game or he joins mine, we lag terribly. Like a major desync happens. You CPU is actually decent for gaming since the cpu turbos up to about 3.2GHz and the reason you're lagging is because of the integrated graphics. Also if you have only 30GB of space left there is going to be a drop in performance since the drive has to work harder to find the information it needs. Doing a fresh install then down volting your integrated graphics should net you a good 20-30% increase in performance. Also the intel hd 5500 is more than enough to run the game at reasonable framerates.

@uneven barn That seems odd. Please be sure that your game is up-to-date. Uninstall any mods. Do you use Steam cloud saves? Please verify the integrity of the game files through Steam. That also restores save files as well. If all else fails, you can edit your profile and add the achievement manually ("Rescue Treebot") under <achievementlists>.

hey so im running into some problems all the sudden for seemingly no reason
last night i played with my friend with some mods for a couple hours without any issues at all

@vocal geyser What do you mean by "used to"? What did you change? Sounds like a connectivity or ISP issue in general. RoR2 connects P2P, you may want to disable any interfering factors for starters (firewall, router).

I never changed anything, all of a sudden it just stopped letting me connect. I contacted my ISP thinking it was an issue on their end but they found nothing. I've also tried disabling the firewall and port forwarding on my router but the issue is the same.

@vocal geyser Whoever the host is in RoR2 determines how much lag there be. In game you can check your ping to the host by typing "ping" into the in-game console. That should give you a clear indication of how laggy it's going to be. RoR2 doesn't seem to prefer regional matchmaking from what I could see but rather throws you into whatever lobby is available even Chinese ones. This might explain your desync problems.
Be sure to verify your game files through Steam and restart your machine.

@quartz nest Because the framerate in the main menu /lobby is uncapped and it will push for as many frames as possible. You can always use the in-game frame-rate limiter to prevent this from happening.

My friend and I are having mouse sensitivity issues in the game. The mouse sensitivity is wack in the menu (whenever the cursor is shown), and any control scheme in game is "UNKNWON" (such as when you start the game and get out of the pod, it says press UNKNWON to exit the pod). Getting a lot of desyncs when I play online with a friend, to the point where he's in the previous level and I'm already far into the next. He's in Europe and I'm in North America. We have high latency in other games such as Left 4 Dead 2, Ultimate Chicken Horse, and Overwatch but it is stable and never to the point of this much of a desync. I host and my internet is 220mbps Download, 10mbps Upload (as of right now- it is almost always around this). Already looked into some stuff like OneDrive and some Windows Update stuff but the issue is still occurring. Any ideas as to how we'd go about diagnosing what is causing this?

It starts to happen around the 4th area- especially in big boss fights, I think.

It seemed turning Vsync off on my end helped a little bit but not much. I've tried turning graphics down to the bare minimum and it doesn't much help either.
I always make sure to turn off other apps such as Spotify, Blizzard Launcher, Firefox, etc-- just Discord and Risk of Rain 2 are running and it still has these massive desyncs

Not sure if I should put this in tech support, but I have had this issue in here before.
I play the game in windowed mode, so keep that in mind.
~ I intend to play the game in 1600 x 1024, but the game changes it to full resolution every time it runs. It even starts up in the resolution I have it changed to, only to change it to full after a few seconds. (full resolution is 1680 x 1050) I don't like playing full screen because I have a bad habit of loosing track of time (I know this game has a timer, but it's not the same for me as actually seeing what time it is). Does ANYONE else have this issue running in windowed mode??

Do i only have the problem with game freezes? Its crazy.. I was playing Artificer (Mage) and my games was freezing like crazy.. Didnt have any problem before

My friend and I are having mouse sensitivity issues in the game. The mouse sensitivity is wack in the menu (whenever the cursor is shown), and any control scheme in game is "UNKNWON" (such as when you start the game and get out of the pod, it says press UNKNWON to exit the pod). My friend is also having issues with the camera always looking down. Does anybody know how to fix this

@chilly flint i played Artifcier and got a lot of stuttering issues. Next run my friend tried artificier and she got freezes instead of me.

Is there a way to load a specific level (Scorched Acres) with a specific seed for reproducing a bug?
The game must emit an invalid (or valid with a compiler bug) shader, which always causes a GPU hang within 2minutes in that level.
Using Linux (mesa 19.1.1, LLVM 8.0.0, proton 4.2-9 with dxvk) on a R9 Fury (RADV Vulkan driver).

It would probably be quick for mesa developers to implement a workaround if I can provide them with a way to reliably reproduce (instead of playing up to that level). Though it is most likely an invalid shader emitted by the game or DXVK (which reminds me, I will report there as well)
