Level's main idea: Depression from start, like constant sadness, going through the isolation, emotional exhaustion, descending slowly into darkest moments of the illness.
Must have: Level should start as a normal level, with much decoration, some harder parts but slowly become less demanding. Also, because I go with the theme "atmosphere", the environment would show off the mood it currently represents, so it would go from light to very dark, with storm, dark sky. It also must become less decorated towards the end, showing the lack of desire person has during that stages, so go from readable, normal gameplay to chaotic, empty/minimalistic.
Optional: The ending may be interpreted in many ways, like recovery, acceptance, collapse, without saying which one it actually is. Also, as sometimes people with depression have better days, towards the end of the level it would have some parts atmospherically similar to the parts from the beginning of the level, showing those better days.
Tradeoffs: I would quality and time, cause atmospheric levels need details, visuals transitions are important and everything needs to be polished, with takes automatically takes time.
