Back before COVID struck, I've had these study sessions with this one student. Because our majors were the same, we hang out frequently. I expected this to be a one time thing were they would hang out with other friends within their network since they were popular with their volunteer work and extracurricular activities, but oddly enough, we end up spending a lot more time together even outside of studies: eating dinner, watching movies, proofreading grammar and spelling errors from sample scripts, backtalking the teacher's competency... it didn't even occur to me that I made a friend back then.

Interactions like these are rare to me so to suddenly be gifted a pen from them was an even more unexpected surprise. While we've lost contact since then and the pen ran out of ink, I still kept that pen as a reminder that there are people who care even if they are difficult to spot.
