Name: Factionmaker
Team/Aura: Third-Party/Unknown
Role card compatibility: New base role
Ability:
-
"Divide and Rule" (passive)
Villagers in factions retain their original win condition, but can't win until other factions are alive.
After the first non-villager dies, the game chooses one random villager to form a separate faction, 3 in total. Each of these villagers will learn about it, but they don't know who the other factions are. After the second non-villager dies, each of the factions will learn the identity of one other faction. After the third non-villager dies, each of the factions will learn the identity of both other factions.
Factions need to eliminate 3 other factions in order to win with their original win condition, or eliminate the Factionmaker. -
Authority (passive)
Factionmaker stays alive after it's been attacked for the first time, and its role gets revealed to the attacker. Factions cease after Factionmaker dies.
Factionmaker wins if it stays alive until the end of the game and all 3 factions are dead.
Extra:
- Players in factions don't know who Factionmaker is.
- If Factionmaker is lynched, its role gets revealed to the whole village.
- Factionmaker’s win is secondary (like Admirer, Lurker or targetless Headhunter).
Motivation:
I always liked converters like Bandit and Sect Leader or third-party roles like Instigator. With these roles even your teammate can be a traitor in disguise. But these roles always felt like an external force, something village was already facing against. I wanted to create a role that creates a different scenario. The enemy within. The hateful neighbor. The envious friend.
Factionmaker thrives when distrust and spite spreads like a disease within the village. It creates a situation where villagers have to turn against each other if they want to win, or find the Factionmaker before it's too late.
