when I'm recruiting people, I try to find people who I need and have starred potential. It's happened with the 2 villiagers so far that I've recruited into this current game after patch. I only have screenshots for Morris though. Am I missing something?

this happened to a lot of people. this is a known bug

At least for me, it has mainly been happening when the villager has traits that effect stats, like Morris in the screenshot having the (iirc) negative-strength congenial trait.
I now just assume that if they have those kinds of traits, that they aren’t being applied to the stats you see when recruiting. So at least I can sort of predict it ahead of time!
