This suggestion is a part of a series of suggestions which are focused around the addition of content to the wasteland.

Belhelmium Factory Complex

To start off, the Belhelmium Factory Complex would replace the Belhelmium Robotics building with something much larger and more significant to the game. Map adjustments would need to be made as this building would be substantially larger.

The Belhelmium Factory Complex is a large building which has sat abandoned for over a century, much of the upper portion of the building is destroyed and the once towering factory now is little more than a 4 floor stump of what it once was. There however lies something beneath...

Amidst its basement level a door is sealed shut seemingly intentionally, if only you had a Fedorium power cell to open it...

New Vendor

Opening the door is kind of like a side quest, the player only need to do it once to gain permanent access to the rest of this suggestion.

In the sealed room you discover NIL, Arch-viscount of the Belhelmium Diarchy. NIL is a harmless machine who has developed sentience and Human expression through unknown means. He was originally designed as a machine to handle cargo, but his body has long since grown defunct and he now sits idly against a wall yearning for company. NIL will ask the player to speak with him again as he quickly grows lonely by himself. Once the player returns NIL is now a vendor of various cosmetic items for very high scrap prices (perhaps weapon skins and avatar accessories?), NIL explains that he has taken up knitting as a hobby and would like to form a bond through commerce to ensure that you consistently return to him and offer him company. If the player buys something from NIL, NIL will then offer a sidequest where you could fetch him a new Fedorium power cell and adapter. After giving him some scrap and a battery, he will tell you about the factory which he inhabits, revealing to you that there are vasts amounts of underground factory that has yet to be explored. He is surprised you did not know this, and offers a temporary access code to explore the factory. After this he would sell said access keys for a hefty fee.

The Underground Factory

"Do-do-do-do not die down there, I rather enjoy your company..." ~ NIL

The underground portion of the Belhelmium building is vast and would function kind of as an end game dungeon, it could even be randomly generated to give farming it a somewhat unique feel + replayability 😳. Players could try to venture the depths alone or in groups, facing great challenges, whether it be rouge security machines, construction robots, zombies!?!? or even giant mutant bats, the factory has a little bit of everything. For all this danger though, there is great scrap rewards, documents which can be translated by NIL, and you can even find advanced weaponry from the old world still intact.

TL;DR

Basically, the Belhelmium building houses a unique vendor and dungeon. This dungeon has a lot of 'AI' based enemies that players must cut down to proceed. This would be a significant departure from the DoD norm in that it's an actual activity and the content would be really substantive and it's kind of inspired by dungeon crawler games. Players could be rewarded with rare cosmetics, large amounts of scrap, and even server-life DEWs for their adventures in the depths.

AI enemies can be incredibly taxing on the server, to prevent this we can have only one dungeon being ran at the same time, furthermore, perhaps the dungeon could be done in a top-down perspective (there would be no pvp as only 1 group can do the dungeon at a time), making the AI's movements and overall development of the whole random-generation thing much easier. It could also be made into a daily type thing, meaning the amount 'dungeons' being ran can be cut down significantly by not allowing people to run them back to back.

This would require a redesign of the NPC system to allow for the more classic NPC interactions you see in video games, allowing you to actually talk to them and whatnot through dialogue choices. Other systems already in game would likely need considerable adjustments. I understand this is a radical departure from the classic Day of Dusk format, hence why I'm posting this suggestion now to see if people are supportive of it before I post any concepts. All major changes to DOD gameplay would be well worthwhile as I have a series of other suggestions (none of them quite as offhanded as this) which would utilize these adjustments, whether it be via camera manipulation, NPCs, side-quests, in-game lore, or more. I don't want to waste my time writing and developing concepts for my other suggestions if it's clear the community isn't in support of departures from the traditional DoD format. If you just want to raid in your border game, good on you, I don't want to impress what I want in DoD on anyone.

If you have any questions about the content, feel free to ask. I have a lot more in terms of detail done for this suggestion, but have already exceeded the character limit 😓!
