I think it's saying it's from a "unknown sender" due to your friends list being wiped/switched, so swapdoodle can't find that friend and it just falls back to a unknown sender

I saw the same thing with notes from my gf after switching to Pretendo, switching back to Nintendo Network seems to fix it

Maybe if you can, you could try adding that friend on Pretendo? I'm unsure if it would work, but hey it's a worth a test

I could be wrong, but I think the reason why they disappear in the first place is because one of the files in HOME Menu badge extdata, BadgeMngFile.dat, contains data linked to your NNID at offset 0x1C-1F, and when you switch to Pretendo, this value changes, so the badges become invalid.

The HOME Menu reacts by just ignoring them, which is why you can still recover them by switching back if you never enter Badge Arcade.
Badge Arcade, on the other hand, apparently straight-up deletes the invalid data so that you can redownload your actual data from their servers... which don't exist anymore. :(

Feel free to correct me on any of this if it's incorrect, though.

This timestamp (8:06) shows the process of making a custom badge file valid, so it should work to convert your official badges from NN to Pretendo if you follow the guide below:

How to convert your badges from Nintendo to Pretendo WITHOUT losing any data (i.e. sets & software links) like with GYTB!

1. Back up your badges at "sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>/extdata/00000000/000014d1" just in case this doesn't work.

(Note: If you have made a backup and then got rid of your software links and set data with GYTB, you'll need to restore this backup to this location on your SD card before following the steps below.
If you don't have one and want the sets and links back, then you can use Allbadge Tool (linked above) to download your badges in their original format.)

2. Use Nimbus to switch to Pretendo.

3. Install and open Simple Badge Injector (https://github.com/AntiMach/simple-badge-injector/releases/latest) and make a note of the "Nintendo Network ID" value.

4. Still inside SBI, choose the option to dump your badge data files.

5. Turn off your 3DS and remove the SD card. On your PC, insert your SD card and open Advanced Badge Editor (https://github.com/AntiMach/advanced-badge-editor/releases/latest). Go to File -> Open Data, then choose the folder where BadgeData.dat and BadgeMngFile.dat are.

6. Replace the NNID value with the one you made a note of in SBI earlier.

7. Save the file. It might be a good idea to choose "Save As" and then save them into a different folder so you can separate them into Pretendo and Nintendo versions.

8. Put the newly modded files into "sdmc:/3ds/SimpleBadgeInjector" (not the "Dumped" folder).

9. Put your SD card back into your 3DS and go back into SBI, then inject your modified badge data files. They should now show up with zero issues! (Hopefully, hence the backup)

If you put these back into extdata and then go into FBI -> Ext Save Data -> 000014d1 -> Browse User Data -> <current directory>, you should be able to copy all contents, then go all the way back with B, choose SD and then paste them anywhere. This will give you access to two files called BadgeData.dat & BadgeMngFile.dat.

If you then power off your system and go into GodMode9, you should be able to view BadgeData.dat in GM9's hex editor. If it doesn't contain 0s, your badges are still there and the problem is likely the NNID value. If it's just 0s, they're probably gone.

Yep - all files inside "sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS/<ID0>/<ID1>" are encrypted for your console's use only. If you want to get decrypted versions of any of the files, either use GM9's A: drive or ninfs on PC (requires boot9.bin and your movable.sed).

That said, save files will still be packed, so you would still need to use 3ds-save-tool/save3ds-fuse on PC or Checkpoint/JKSM/FBI on 3DS to unpack them.
(Putting them back is more complicated, though - you either have to use any of the latter 3 tools, or use a combination of save3ds-fuse to repack and GM9 to fix the CMACs.)

As far as I understand it, v130 versions have less data because they were for v1.3.0 of the game, whereas v131 is for v1.3.1 and has more.

Theoretically, the JPN version should have the most data, but most of it's actually in pc.sarc from the Japanese update CIA's romfs, not in the SpotPass download.

i've officially gotten stuck on this point. i got the data file from allbadge (i chose USA 131), and am trying to import the .cab and .prb files, but the data file allbadge gave me has neither of those file types...
