does ur hdd use usb y (2 cables, 1 for connectivity other for power) if not you need usb y

it need the 2 usb at the end for it to get enough power

They meet the 2.0 spec, but, they don't supply enough power for many devices. So, it's either an efficient drive or self-powered drive.
