Anywho, some of the major MK8U differences to MK8DX:

• Canceling your drift without a miniturbo does not slow you down in 8U. And in addition, alternating slides is very helpful with preserving speed you get from firehopping.
• Miniturbo charge rates do not change based on your Miniturbo stat. That's a DX thing only, meaning hi MT combos are far less viable.
• Of course, landing slightly sideways when you boost lets you exceed your normal maximum speed, also known as firehopping. Its most effective, while in a straight, do firehop by alternating left and right hops.
• Hopping downhill will induce a dramatic speed loss in 8U. You can bypass this by hopping with a slide afterwards, though.
• Trick boosts in 8U are extremely wimpy. Its often better to just drift off ramps and MT.

Just as a few major examples among many other minor ones

One of my more favorite minor ones for online play is that player backtrails will never ghost hit you in 8U. Only if you ram into someone's backtrailed item on YOUR screen will it ever hit you.

In deluxe it's opposite.

thats something that mk8u does not have

literally the only reason why im staying on the wii u version

this was a few months earlier for anyone wondering

There's something so satisfying being able to drift side-by-side with an opponent in MK8U who's backtrailing an item and not having to worry about phantom hits. Instead, it's my own responsibility to respect the space and not get too close to their held item, and if I end up getting hit by it, that would be my own fault.

In DX, you never know how close you are allowed to be to someone holding an item. And as a result, someone backtrailing an item can dominate so much more space, where I feel like I have to sometimes brake and make sure my following distance isn't within that phantom hit range.

There's also some other 8DX features that i feel makes things worse, too. Double item boxes basically makes every item in the game have double up-time. Shells in MK8 in general are already stupidly broken, but now they are up double time. It gets too chaotic for my liking.

Obligatory parts tier list for MK8U for Online/VS Mode races, to at least sort of give an idea to some people here who may not be super familiar with the MK8U meta

For time trials, swap A+ and A- for the karts, and ignore anything below A

Most of the time its just Blue Falcon/Streetle with Slicks with max weight characters

But some tracks do have better combos other than that

Neo Bowser City is Pipe Frame Slims for example

And Sherpet Land uses Standard Tires instead of Slicks with their Streetle

And a number of tracks like N64 Rainbow Road and Electrodrome opt for Mach 8.

Dolphin Shoals, of course, uses something super whacky like Tanooki Kart and Leaf Tires, which is otherwise just a terrible combo

And also unfortunately most time trials also requires wiimote d-pad to compete at top level

Wii Wheel has the same benefits as Wiimote D-pad (which I believe is just better turning radius than other controllers or something like that), but you have to deal with motion controls in MK8, which you may not always want on.

But Wii Wheel gives you analog steering back, which may be why some records use them.

Still baffles me that the kart's handling is altered by just using the wiimote though lol

I mean on a controller you have a D-Pad to get consistent soft drift turns too

its just worse than Wiimote for arbitrary reasons
