if your pc hardware is good enough shader compilation shouldn't really affect you if using Vulkan with Async compilation. its pretty much unnoticeable

using these graphics settings and multi core recompiler in the mk8 game profile will grant you the best experience

and you should be able to scale resolution pretty comfortably assuming you have a gpu from the last few years. it isnt really that taxing

I made it for myself originally to assist in trying to understand why firehopping works in MK8U, and also how it doesn't work in MK8DX

Black needle is your Normal Speed, Orange Needle is your "secondary velocity" speed, and Red Needle is what the game is setting your Max Speed to be.

The Secondary velocity thing is pretty complicated, but in summary it's something that gets added onto your "Normal Speed". Your Normal speed can only ever push your car forward or backwards, but this secondary variable is 3 dimensional and can push you in any direction. You can see it in effect if you spam hops in one direction and force your kart to skid sideways, for example. It's a variable that's always being used in some way, but there is a bug that forces this variable to go way higher than it should be when you hop and land slightly sideways while you are in a boost.

It's a bit hard to explain. In a nutshell lots of poking around in Cheat Engine and seeing where the values are for your Kart (which consists of a lot of variables for almost everything your kart is doing).

I do want to release this tool for Cemu users to sort of visually help out players to understand what is happening with their kart and such.

I was also using this tool to figure out what's going on with MK8DX and what changed to remove firehops, just out of sheer curiosity. Turns out, there are two functions that can be removed and Firehopping nearly works as it did in MK8U, interestingly enough.

There are still key things that are different in Deluxe, like releasing drifts without a miniturbo charged will lose you speed, while in MK8U that never happens. And the feature that MK8U has where you lose a lot of speed when you hop going downhill isn't in MK8DX (I'm inclined to believe it was intentionally added in MK8U since without it you get so much free speed since there is no speed clamping in MK8U, while there is clamping in MK8DX making it redundant, thus being removed). Things like that.

I've been on and off trying to learn how all this works since like Summer last year and just figured a lot of this out the past couple of days. I could talk about this all day

Fundamentally the physics between the two games are pretty much the same, its just that Deluxe has a lot more "Speed Clamping" to prevent you from exceeding the set max speed you have

Oh! Also worth mentioning that trick boosts in MK8U are comedically weak.

Which is why drifting off ramps with miniturbos instead of tricking is basically all you should be doing in MK8U for most cases

Looking at the DX Excitebike record, there are some drifting off ramps, but its mostly just tricking while charging miniturbos before leaving the ramps, which gives a large speed boost in DX while in MK8U I dont think that's too much of a thing

Demon Slides are probably not fully understood by most, but the main reason it works is that it preserves your "Firehop speed". As in, if you look at that speedometer from before, how far that Orange Needle is ahead of the Black Needle, that's basically your "Firehop speed" for all intents and purposes in MK8U. If you don't demon slide after firehopping, that orange needle will very quickly zero out and go back in sync with your Normal Speed (black needle). Demon Slides delay this. Demonsliding is effectively useless if you don't already have some "firehop speed" already stored up, unless you're hopping downhill. Demonslide hops downhill in most cases will gain you speed regardless of firehop speed stored, but not in all cases

MK8U is complicated

Maybe? I'm not entirely sure why it works the way it does. I only know that MK8DX tricks give you a lot more speed when you land and get the boost. But the trick animation itself probably behaves differently too.

Like, for context, the speed you get when you land with a trick boost in DX is nearly as fast as FIREHOPPING speed with a MUSHROOM in MK8U

If its stage 1 miniturbo, I think optimally you hop normally twice alternatingly, and then demon sliding for a bit afterwards can help preserve it a little. Though I think it's far more effective if you get SMT instead

and compare it to the speed I get when firehopping

I think it's like, only 5 speed less than firehopping under shroom boosts

I think the speed you get from trick boosts in MK8U, when looking at my MK8U Speedometer video, is only about the speed and boost duration you get from a level 1 miniturbo. But mainly I think the main reason why it's so slow in MK8U is that the act of tricking itself tends to give you more air-time, which is almost always bad to have an excessive amount of

Speculating a bit there though. Like I said, MK8U is complicated.

Left Graph is MK8U, and right is MK8DX. They both represent a similar sequence of events, where a mushroom is used, and then alternating hops left and right begin, and continue to hop left and right after the boost ends

You can see a lot of the graph after the boost has ended is actually quite similar, it's only once the boost is active is when all of the patches that were implemented into DX take effect and basically saying "No Firehopping allowed" and clamp the hell out of your speed in multiple ways.

Also sort of proving myself right earlier saying I could talk about this all day, because I can indeed talk about this all day

I imagine I'll have it be open. There really isn't toooo much to it. The visual speedometer is carried by Unity, and the underlying scripts that read the memory of Cemu isn't too crazy, other than the search it took to find the pointers and such.
