So I recently bought this game for my friends and I, and my game has been constantly freezing for a second or 2 while in the menu and the game. This doesnt happen with any other game and my friends dont have this issue. I've tried everything I could think of, played with setting on high and low, set to high performance, clean computer incase its heat issue, verify files with steam, redownload, virus scan and update drivers. Nothing ive done has had any effect on the freezing. It freezes for a second, then game is fine for like 5-10 seconds, then freezes again, like the game is stuttering. I've got no idea what the problem may be, im pretty sure it isn't a hardware issue.

For spec info, im using a laptop:
Windows 11 Home
11th Gen Intel Core i7-11800H
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 laptop GPU
32G RAM
DirectX 12
SSD Storage
My hardware is better than my friends, and as I said they have no issues, so I don't see this being a hardware issue
The directx 12 part doesnt matter since this game runs in dx11
How much free space on your ssd?
on the ssd its on, theres over 250gb free
What is your texture setting at?
Currently on full, tho i did drop it down to half and it made no difference
didnt try quarter since half had no effect
Tho if you think it could help i can try it now
Hmm if youve tried it already, it likely wont make a difference
Any mods?
And what driver version are you using
Only just bought the game so im not using any mods (cant even beat the first level since i keep freezing during battle)
GeForce Game ready driver version 595.79
Try one of the 580.xx drivers
Ive heard 590.xx and up have been awful
Also, id say avoid newer drivers anyway since you are on an "older" gpu
fair, i have noticed a bit of a drop recently in other games
Ill give an update on if the driver switch worked or not
What’s your mouse?
If the pooling rate is above 1k hz then lower it to 1k hz
Razer Viper V3 Hyperspeed, and after fighting my computer to get razer synapse to download, i set its pulling to 1000 hz and it made a slight difference? The game was smoother, it either didnt freeze or only froze for like a quarter of a second (manageable) although when i would open a door, switch weapons, or was in combat, it would freeze for a good 3 seconds
Still a problem, but finally progress has been made
Now ill see about reverting my drivers
If this doesnt fix it lower it one step more
the pulling?
Ye
ok
Actually you could do it rn
actually ill try that rn
didnt make a difference
drivers time
Ok i Reverted to NVIDIA Drivers 581.80 and it didnt change anything
Still freezing
ill be heading to bed, any other ideas on how to possibly fix this freezing issue would be greatly appreciated
what temps is your laptop? i wonder if it was overheating and throttling
another thing to check would be power performance settings, on battery/plugged in
My laptop temps never went above 175f / 80c which is very normal for my laptop, and my laptop's power settings is set to high performance. Also, as a desktop replacement laptop its always plugged in
The only thing I can think of is thermal throttling causing stuttering issues again
Outside of that, I guess this is just something in your system dying? GTFO is really good at telling you how your setup is doing bcs it's an absolute mess of a game.
Could also be cFosSpeed or something of that nature faqing with the game
Rip, cant be thermals couz it never went above 85c from what i saw
maybe its time to upgrade
Usually @cyan arch 's the one that knows whether the hardware's the issue
Maybe he knows something
hopefully
Is it 1080p?
1440p
Hm shouldn't still be an issue, send a pic of the advanced graphical settings
assuming you meant ingame
agreed, like i said i don't think its a hardware issue, unless carrot was right and something is dying 🙁
tho if its a problem with the game, then why was i the only was affected and not my friends? why didnt reinstalling the game fix it
no idea why the stuttering is happening
Uhhhh lowkey check which gpu the game is using, if you search "graphics" it should be in there (might have to manually add it, also unsure but i could check later where it is ecactly)
Its using the main one, the nvidia gpu
was set on device default before and used that one, but i specifially set it to use that one just in case
Ah icic
Not sure i could add anything right now, if you want to you could record it in case it helps sleepo or carrot (or anyone else joining in)
sure i can quickly record a vid of me jumping in and doing the first alarm, that should show enough to get an idea of the freezing
Yea
btw incase it matters, ive only been playing and testing on R1A1, as its the only mission i have unlocked
That shouldn't be an issue
Oh thats hilarious, now that im trying to show off the freezing, the game doesnt want to freeze anymore XD
thats so weird, why isnt it freezing anymore? i didnt change anything since last time i got on and it was freezing then
let me try and go thru the whole level, see if it starts to freeze as the round goes on
Maybe reinstalling drivers lol
i ran the first alarm 4 times with the "new" drivers and it froze every time
i just ran the first alarm again, it didnt freeze nearly as much as before, still froze a bit but it was manageable
tho i did miss hitting the door with my c foam gernade because of a freeze soooo, its still annoying XD
Well at least we will see why hopefully
so i played without bots, and im still getting used to the gunplay so i died first alarm lol. The video is 5 minutes with a few freezes here and there, would it be fine if i sent a gofile link for the vid? or is there a specific way you would like it?
Whichever way gets it uploaded
If you need to upload it somewhere I'd suggest youtube
gofile is like google drive, so you can directly view the video, although i can upload to youtube if thats what is prefered
Ye I snow, just easier to do youtube generally
so is the gofile link fine or am i uploading to youtube?
ill take a look at the vid
something immediately
you can actually skip the first cutscene bit where the pod opens
just hold any button
oh fr? good to know
that is the smoothest the game has ran for me, those little freezes were every 5 seconds and would last for a full second, or 2 if in combat
lowkey annoyed it wants to fix itself now that im trying to show it not working xD but ill take it
which temps were these?
cpu or gpu
both
also, can you take a screenshot of the memory tab in task manager?
Its 32 so it should be fine
not what im checking
trying to see if its single channel
Icic
or maybe even mismatched sticks
haha that c foam grenade
Funny how mismatched sticks can lead to many problems that ive never had on the systams that were mismatched lmao
back when my server had 2x16 and 2x8 at the same time, my minecraft server was running giga weird
Only thing I looked for was same size as my others
Prolly a reason
Ye
so if what im thinking is what is happening with this guys problem, then it would be 2x8 + 1x16 or 1x24 + 1x8
those dips in the 3d part of gpu are freezes
my 2 ram sticks are both 16g, same brand
they match
hmm 2 sticks
definitely not what i was thinking then
running any mods (dont remember if i asked)
what does your storage look like?
both task manager and file explorer
the game is on the new volume d drive
not sure how to check storage thru task manager
like this
oh
want to see if there is any formatting weirdness or just windows shenanigans
hmm yeah
thats an odd one
not sure it would be the cause of the issues, but something worth noting
do you have them set up in a raid 0?
that question is unrelated, just curiosity
Honestly, no idea, ive had this for like 4-5 years, the c stick was default came with it, i popped the d stick in and didnt mess with it
weird
i didnt even know what the raid ment till just now
usually a form of data parity or a way to make 2 drives faster
something that has to be manually done so weird that windows says it
as for fixing the game issue try
uninstall the game
clear steam download cache
reinstall game
gotcha, i dont recall manually doing something like that
alr
i uninstalled and reinstalled b4, but didnt clear the cache
@signal tide Is this something I should learn more about for future reference?
which thing?
Mostly everything that's to do with gpus
cause I know next to nothing about them
ehh there isnt much with gpus when it comes the this game
mainly the vram
then nvidia and amd have has some driver issues (amd has fixed theirs, but nvidia still has liquid bug)
Didnt fix it, its actually back to its big freezing self now, rip
seems to be intermittent and unrelated to game files
the freezing still isnt as often as before, but theyre lasting a second~ like before
makes me think driver issue
download a program called Display Driver Uninstaller (or DDU for short)
use the "Clean and do not restart" option
will completely wipe the graphics drivers
then reinstall the drivers (if 580.xx isnt stable, go for something like 570.xx)
give me a ping once you do that
gonna be doing other stuff for a bit
@signal tide done, should i hop on the game and see if it worked or is there another step
just try that
alr
Well
Without having me pick the related thread since it's pretty old and I dont remember the exact words
I remember someone having those "mini-freezes" fixed by moving the game from a nvme to an ssd
they have 2 nvmes so that wont help
Keep in mind NVMe M2 get HOT
and some people dont put coolers on them
it's a laptop so I doubt it's the issue
but to be sure I'd check the temps of those too
Moreover, do one thing
check the fps/gpu usage on something even nvidia's experience overlay (alt+z IIRC)
like
Raid shown on windows like that
it's usually striping
at least from my understanding
since I had some HDDs on striping a long time ago
striping is basically RAID 0 but done on window's side
indeed
there's also mirroring which is raid 1 which is basically if one drive goes kaboom the other has the data
I wonder why those NVMes are in a raid at all tbh
striping on NVMe doesn't make any sense they're fast enough already
on the other hand I'd imagine something like that to give issues on a lot of other games too
still freezing, but better than before
Hey i just realized that my SSD is shown as Type "SSD (RAID)" in the task manager.
Do you know if this has any negativ impact?
i attached a screenshot of my task manager:
https://imgur.com/a/XEhks8F
Thanks in advance
Ü.
I'll be sincere I dont know if this is the issue and I've no idea if whatever fuckery made this is gonna wipe the data if you undo the raid
yeah idk why or how the raid thing happened but im not undoing it, i dont have a way to backup everything rn
might be worth to keep the game open, win+r "resmon" check on disk usage of GTFO.exe and see if it fucks up when the mini-freezes happen
does it sound like this issue, for example #1286902569280737350 message
seems pretty similar, maybe ill just buy an external ssd and move the game over
I'd try to get it on the other nvme if you can before doing that
albeit I can see that it's pretty full
yeah, im sure i can clean it up a bit
iv ran out of time to test for now, but when im free ill try moving the game to the other drive, see if that fixes it or not
if not, then ill prob just deal with the mini freezes for now until i upgrade or se if an external ssd would work
Ok after cleaning out my other drive and redownloading it onto it, the game no longer freezes, tho it is now decently laggy
although im sure i can fix that on my own
Still not sure what was causing the freezing, and as long as they dont come back i dont care
thank you all for helping me out
keep in mind that 1440p on this game for a 3070 you kinda have to have things on low for it to be 60+ fps
I've seen 3060 struggle to get costantly 60+ on 1080p without putting details down so I assume a 3070 on 1440p wont do too good (especially since it's a Laptop)
