#Game Crash Invalidating Completion

After completing an expedition, my Steam client crashed completely, leading to the GTFO executable crashing as well. Upon restarting Steam, the game still showed as running, but the application didn't recover. After relaunching GTFO, the expedition I had just completed (R5B1 Prisoner Efficiency) was marked as incomplete.

This is the second time this has happened to me (first time was on R6BX).

Is it possible to "reinstate" the lost progress? Moreover, I would love to find a solution to prevent this fatal error from recurring.

Here's the last lines of the log from that session leading to the crash

Also I’ve found with GTFO that it ”crashes” but in reality you just need to wait a bit (under a min), how long did you wait before closing the game?

~5 minutes, I've experienced numerous times where my Steam client will shut down entirely on its own and GTFO will stop responding, but it's only happened rarely at the end of an expedition

@south heath suppose you could take a look?

Extremely weird - From what I've looked into, most of the game crashes have been directly linked to a specific player/friend I play with where our two clients have major issues communicating. Namely, I'll try hosting a lobby and the moment that particular player joins, my Steam crashes and the game freezes. Our workaround has been to have someone else host, which resolves the lobby issues (occasionally). However, even in these instances, once we start an expedition, the player model of that friend becomes stuck in place and they essentially don't exist from my client's perspective.

You playing with any mods?

#

Either of you

However, this hasn't always been the case - We played for quite some time a few months ago and, after taking a short break, the issues only started occurring last week

#

No, neither of us have used any mods at any point with GTFO

#

None of us have been using a VPN either

And both of you running Ethernet and have stable connections outside of the game?

noble hound
#

I've even had both of us delete the contents of the LocalLow GTFO folder to force the game to regenerate the files.

#

I don't have Ethernet, but otherwise a perfectly stable connection; They have Ethernet and have tried both with and without it -- Again, everything was working fine for several weeks until a few days ago

🤔

#

Tbf we have been experiencing some weirdness in steams P2P servers recently

#

And ”old” games (games that don’t have a failsafed baked in) have been experiencing major issues

noble hound
#

Also, one of the other friends we play with is using the same Internet as them (they're roommates)

#

Interesting

Anyways I’m not good at logs peeping so I’ll let golden take that part lmao

#

But for the getting a free clear download R2modman and grab cconsole

#

And then noclip and I think there’s completeobjective 0-2 (or 1-3 I haven’t done that in a while) to signify main secondary and overload

#

Is there a link or somewhere I could go for more information regarding that?

#

Also, thank you for helping out 🙂

Anything helps at this point lol. But still, I appreciate it! Saves me from convincing them to do it again at some point 😅

Perhaps the crash-log will yield better results, but I don't remember where it is atm

noble hound
# south heath There's nothing out of the ordinary in the log

Would this line not be an issue? What causes the Trust Failure?

07:23:23.444 - DropServerManager: 'layer progression (layer: Third, state: Completed)' request failed: V5_LayerProgression request failed: Error: TrustFailure (One or more errors occurred.)

#

Also, I've checked several places and the unity crash handler doesn't seem to have even had a chance to generate a log - I couldn't find any crash logs from Unity. Also, I checked my Steam console_log file and it referenced UnityCrashHandler being updated (hence why I mentioned it).

Moreover, I've checked my Windows Event Viewer and it shows GTFO entering a hanging state:

The program GTFO.exe version 2019.4.21.28076 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

[There are no further details in my Security and Maintenance control panel]

Hopefully that extra information is helpful
