#sporadic lag spikes
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
This happens no matter what?
yep
all levels
menu
settings
everywhere
memory usage was about 70% and increasing every second i think so its probably a memory leak
Do you have your fps cap set to infinite?
yes
it does go above 100 anyway
it just dips to 10-20 for about 3 seconds
goes back up to 100 then dips back in 1 second
i lowered every setting and the exact same thing happens
even if i use 640x360p or whatever it was
Welp I usually deal with ingame issues, so can't help with that much
well thanks still
@stone pelican or someone like @cerulean monolith might know what's going on
https://gtfo.wiki.gg/wiki/Bug_Wiki/Tech_Support_Wiki#Memory_Leak_Fix
We do have plenty of mem leaks in this game, so if nobody else seems to be able to help fix things feel free to try the modded fix within the mem leak section
the last time i tried messing with the code i got banned from 6 different games at once so idk how safe that is
if gtfo doesnt have that kind of measure ill try it though
I added it just in case no one can help, most likely someone will come by within a few hours (global community and all)
gl to resolving your issue
thanks again
What’s your specs?
do i just send a screenshot of system->about
Could just look in task manager, not entirely sure what’s in the about section
Memory at 70% usage and you have 32GB?
No I meant you mentioned it before
just to rule out the possibility of anything that doesnt have to do with the game
yea
it uses as much as an antivirus scan
Anyways, check so that GTFO uses the proper gpu, search in windows ”graphics” then send a screenshot cuz I can’t remember
gtfo isnt in the list
do i copy the path
And then you just link it to the .exe
or is there a special executable
Gtfo.exe
i added it
its gpu for both power saving and regular
i chose high performance anyway
yeah happening again
i can see my fps dropping in real time
as far as i know
its not
- any of the settings
- anything to do with gpu usage
but definitely this
Check temps? If you've set fps to unlimited and have no V-sync on then the GPU goes as fast as it can and overheats, triggering thermal throttling which means it automatically goes slower
This is CPU usage btw
I forgot to send yesterday but the cpu usage will go up and down, sleepo might be onto something considering it’s a laptop (worse cooling than normal)
In any event if you're really worried that it's memory leak (I doubt that since if it really happens even in the Rundown menu on a fresh start of the game it'd be really weird), try starting the game, alt+tab, open the resource monitor, go on memory, then click GTFO.exe that will really tell you how much memory GTFO is currently using.
Also memoryleak prolly wouldn’t be noticeable on 32 GB of ram within like two mins, if I run it default and drop into R2D1 it takes me about 2-3 hours before I notice anything
If I understood right, the game DOES run at 100+ fps for a certain time, then starts dropping more and more often to 30, temperatures would also explain that.
Yea
i tried with vsyn on too
i think i captured it at the wrong time but when i first checked it out it was spiking to over 70% everytime the game lagged
it's never throttled like that in any game
In any event you can check temps to roll that out
i am right now
it might also be the game trying to use the iGPU of the 5800h rather than the 3070
is there a foolproof way to know if its throttling though
im sure thats not the case
I think the 3070-3080 NON-laptop editions go to shit after around 80-85 celsius but I'm really not sure
the frequency of the GPU slows if it throttles
https://www.hwinfo.com/ iirc this will show the temp in red if it’s throttling
Free Hardware Analysis, Monitoring and Reporting. In-depth Hardware Information, Real-Time System Monitoring, Reporting & more
im downloading it
not showing the temp though
Could be under advanced setting
yeah not red
I wasnt sure if it would but google says 85-90 C it’s thermal throttling, if there’s a hotspot temp send that too
oh yeah this makes sense
Yikes
the thresholds are usually higher for laptops though
i think it stopped now
yeah its not lagging anymore what
even though i have 60 different things open in the background
nvm its back
it might be cause of my cpu i have absolutely no idea
ill try cleaning the dust if theres any
Yea do a deep clean
If you want you could also repaste the gpu/cpu BUT you’d have to research if yours is using Liquid Metal or not
And you’d have to get like a good thermal paste
its a laptop though
its pretty difficult to do that
without splitting a component in half
A little bit more difficult than on pc’s :p
Nah I don’t think it’s gonna be that bad
But at least like unscrew the bottom part and like deep clean
Also you could put a plate so that the laptop is angled for more airflow
i can try that
theres some dust
ill try vacuuming it out but i dont think you can remove the case without breaking one of the metal pins near the back
That seems horrible😭
Well the fact you can’t take it apart
Cuz just about every laptop you can (you’d have to remove the feet on some)
Anyways yea vacuum the intake first then exhaust
