Choppy game, even with nothing on in the background.

Hi! Last night I was going to stream GTFO with a friend, it was way too choppy to stream so I decided she could just stream us playing. Even with everything in the background off it was still quite choppy and would occasionally freeze when quickly checked Discord. I turned all the graphics down to the lowest possible, it helped a little but I still lag in alarm door battles, the entrance scene and when hitting enemies on their head.

How can I stop the lag? If it is due to my PC what is causing the issue, and is it something I really should upgrade?

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11500 @ 2.70GHz
16GB RAM
64-bit operating system
Windows 11

From what I’ve found you have 6 GB vram, could you just check in task manager quickly to see if that’s correct?

It might be due to your vram amount (dedicated gpu memory), 6 GB is low for QHD

Could you load into a level and take pic of it?

yea so i think you're limited by vram amount, id recommmend installing memoryleakfix because in future levels youre gonna have even more problems with it

do you know what r2modman is? its a mod manager program for a bunch of games

it allows you to install mods without them being permanently in your game (like it doesnt touch files) so you can go back to vanilla easily

and under the help tab, you can copy a command line argument for gtfo (goes in steam gtfo properties) and it makes it so you can just launch the game from steam and have mods

@granite wave you can get a 5070 or 9070 for about 500, but then your cpu will be the limiting factor

in gtfo it should be relatively fine and it means you can turn settings up, but in later levels like and ones with surge alarms, the framerate may drop

but a 2060 is starting to get pretty dated with 6gb vram

pretty much comes down to how much you would rather play at 1440p over 1080p, and how much you want the extra performance and vram

and if there are any other things you need to spend money on besides a pc (bills and such)
