Hello! I bought GTFO to play with some friends during the current sale on Steam, Last time I checked the game out was during Beta back in 2019 on a very old laptop that i used to have that had integrated graphics that was able to run the game at 30 fps tops heh. I currently have the game installed on an HDD and turns out that the game simply refuses to run past 1 or 2 fps, and its draining my CPU and RAM almost completely. I have a SSD, and I have not yet moved the game to it to try and resolve the problem, since it does not seem to be caused by disk usage.

I'm running the latest nvidia drivers, 581.29 (for games)

  • Intel Core i9-9900KF
  • 32GB RAM
  • RTX 2060S
-# Might be slightly less relevant but i have a primary 75hz LG screen (not using the driver for it's functionality so it behaves generic) and in parallel a Wacom One 60hz drawing screen, Wacom remains connected and detected, but its set to mirror the other monitor.

any ideas what could be causing this? I changed most graphic and screen related settings, which did not seem to solve the issue, looked it up online with no results unfortunately, thought i might as well ask instead of immediately refunding :)

good question lets see if the game is even running on a GPU maybe its trying it's best trying to render on the CPU when its shouldn't even be able to lmfao

1 sec

That being said you might also try switching the game to the SSD, HDD per se doesn't tell much, there's 5200 rpm HDDs that were usually not really fit to run old-ish games

#

Most HDDs unless you bought it 20 years ago should be 7200rpm, which is way better but again, I dont really know if the game can run decently on an HDD

okay we may have found the problem, GTFO is straight up not running with GPU usage huh

#

i've never seen a game straight up able to open with the pure CPU, i'll see if i can fiddle with the GPU assignment in the nvidia control panel

#

ty!

#

lets see if the nvidia control panel can do magic and sort this out

#

alr seems like assigning the GPU manually through nvidia control panel and restarting the computer fixed the problem, thanks @bitter thistle :)

#

problem is not really pointed out and solved but at least now i can play the game haha aye

Nice

Yeah that is a REALLY weird issue

magic tartan

im straight up mindblown i've genuinely never seen a game run purely on the CPU with no integrated

Maybe the game hadnt properly loaded or was compiling shaders (which i doubt)

how is it even rendering LOL

#

the funniest part is that it wasn't even tanking my general pc performance

#

it was just draining usage

# magic tartan how is it even rendering LOL

Slowly

Basically, a gpu has a lot of tiny cores that do MANY small things

Cpus have big ones that do a couple large tasks

In very basic terms, cpus and gpus arent too dissimilar

#

Cpus CAN render

Take blender for example

But gpus do rendering tasks far faster

#

Still shocking you possibly managed to get gtfo to run on the cpu

magic tartan
#

yeah i have a high level understanding of the difference between CPUs and GPUs but i was mostly reacting to that,, the fact that the game can just..... run on the cpu cores lmfao

#

no wonder it was a powerpoint presentation

@magic tartan glad to see you’re experiencing true GTFO

the cpu wants him to get the fuck away from the game lmao
