#game crashes after initial cutscene

@foggy bramble You familiar with what's going on?
@shadow birch If I were you, I suppose I'd look into whether or not the files are installed properly?
It seems something is corrupted somehow
@shadow birch Did verifying things work?
nope
im not sure what the issue is
it can't be windows cuz i play various different games and this doesn't happen
i got this gpu today so maybe its drivers?
but i installed them
so idk
others games are running fine
the #known-issues mentions that it could be a memory issue
since i only have 8gb
and the recommended is 16
@crude abyss you here?
@shadow birch does this happen with other unity games or just gtfo?
how do i know what games use unity?
so far only gtfo
games on unreal run fine so idk
Uhhh
Google the name of a game with engine in the same sentence

all run fine
Download something like “muck” and see if it opens
ok
Hollow Knight uses unity
runs fine
Okay so it isn’t an issue with unity
It could be a ram issue
Considering you only have 8gb

If possible record you opening up the game until the crash happens
im gonna go on vc
8GB of RAM
Windows uses like 2GB-4GB by itself
and screenshare
@uncut stump
takes a while to load but thats because its not installed on an SSD
but that shouldn't affect it loading
other than speed
It kinda does
Well first off
The starting screen shouldn't keep saying "Waiting for assets to initialize" even after you get a prompt to start the game
I should've asked this earlier but you did get the game through steam right
Is the drive that you installed the game in like nearly full or smth
Have you tried reinstalling the game?
no but i verified files
I won't have time to reinstall rn since im logging off in a few minutes
but I'll do it tmrw
If your game is corrupted youll need a fresh install
alright
by the time you come back tomorrow if we still have no idea what happened then I'll probably ask for your dxdiag thing
But yeah just give it some time, half the people are asleep rn
okayge
gtfo is a ram hungry game, my inclination is towards that
I remember someone with a similar issue let me check
Among all the rest of the suggestion (and 8Gb of RAM being really way too little), if nothing else works, try this: #1120486300538130543 message
Like, from my (very lacking, I'll admit) quick check with the exception of, well, GTFO, most of those are very NOT demanding games in terms of performance
DRG, NMS, Outerwilds are the only ones that are properly 3d outside of GTFO and they're all very-non-demanding
And none of those are unity (NMS is homemade, DRG and Outer Wilds are UE4).
It'd also really help to know the rest of your system spec... Open task manager, "more details", performance, click on the CPU and GPU tabs they should also say the model of each.

Nevermind I read on the other discussion, 12600k and 7600 are more than enough
Dont bother doing what I asked those 2 are more than fine to run GTFO
so the problem is just ram?
Perhaps, try the rest of the fixes of the usual suspects but, personally, I've never tried running the game on only 8
alright
thx for everyone that helped
I'll see whenever i can get another 8gb slot
Try the rest of the fixes too if you didnt, the one I posted is the most complex one so leave it for last.
oki
omg
reinstalling the game
didn't work
it made the descent cutscene run for longer
but still crashed
im gonna try installing it on ssd
Its the RAM
probably
is 2x16gb better or 4x8gb?
2x16
alright
I have a very similar issue and i think i have found the problem. This crash only happens with MSI Afterburner open. I even tried fresh install of the game and it doesnt like it.
Nickname status log is from AppData\LocalLow\10 Chambers Collective\GTFO
Look for more logs in AppData\Local\Temp\10 Chambers Collective\GTFO\Crashes\ I found a player.log
at the bottom of player log i saw the following
ERROR: SymGetSymFromAddr64, GetLastError: 'Attempt to access invalid address.' (Address: 000000018007C8DB)

RTSSHooks64 is rivatuner. I hope this helps or at least you can find your issue from that player.log
Also, i have no idea what the difference is but If i open MSI afterburner then
1, open GTFO via steam = crash
2, open gtfo manually via shortcut in steamapps\common\GTFO = no issues and can use rivatuner no problem?!?

The overlay maybe causes issues? No idea.
Did you ever fix this Neil? I have found that making game run as administrator also fixed on my end, i can start via steam now
