So I have no idea what this is. if someone can help me figure out why this is happening to my friend, that would be great. here's a screenshot they have of the issue.

when launching the game, you can press and hold a key to skip the opening animatic, at which point it will just say "waiting for system assets to initialize" and then the inject button will appear

relaunch and try not skipping it?

im not entirely sure, sounds like somethings gotten messed up with launching the game

maybe someone else here knows a fix, but id say verify the integrity of the game files/reinstall

I'm pretty sure Prisoner ID is supposed to show your Steam ID and ALIAS your Steam friends-list name.

By showing 0 it means it might have troubles authenticating with Steam?

If you're using a VPN turn that off and try again

Also, game puts logs in %appdata%/10chambers/GTFO but I've no idea where it does that for Linux

I know gtfo runs on Linux for the steam deck so if steam is setup correctly then it should work.

Logs will likely just show spam that it's unable to connect to steam

hmmm. steam overlay pops up normally, but that might not be the same thing. lemme look up where the log file might end up

google isn't coming up with anything useful, I'll go dig around in the game files tomorrow

considierng this was tuesday i assume its just steam maintanence as they do it regularly on tuesday evenings

I dont know about that being the case, those maintenences usually dont even last an hour.

I can run the game just fine when I boot Windows, this only came up when I tried it on Linux. I can try it again, just haven't bothered yet

best bet is recent proton, make sure upnp is active and firewalls allow steam ports

I mean it could be playing out similarly to a cracked version of the game? since it's basically forcing a windows file to run on linux. but I can assure you that I have definitely paid for it

Cracked versions should only have trouble connecting with other players, as steam backend doesn't allow you to do that using common methods
Don't know what he saw in the thread that gave the impression it was cracked.

Again, how do you know that?
Provide proof that they're using cracked, or just stop
You're not helping anyone solve their issue through this conversation, and this problem isn't something that is only restricted to a cracked version
It can happen due to all sorts of things

Unless you've experienced this while you were on free weekend or playing a cracked version, in which case you can make your own thread, stop.
