Very well-known bug, just gonna make sure it's here.
Bots refuse to pick up and carry objective items during combat. I remember perfectly that they were able to do so in R6. They used to juggle between carrying and shooting.
Since the bots are adorable, I'll make sure to report any of their bugs that come to mind

Can confirm this, but outside combat too. The comms menu however does reflect the change, i.e., the bot responds (but doesn't pick up the item) and the menu option updates to dropping the item.
torpid summit
This is still a problem, and for someone trying to solo missions with bots (yes not true solo, shut up) it makes it extremely difficult to do at all

been a thing since alt r2 came out they didnt bother fixing it along with other known issues
