No they are woken up for the descent
it was in reply to slade
oh yeah I understand now
Yea, I just dont want to say these people are forced down there because they honestly seemed pretty geared
nevermind they are xD
the idea is they are pretty lacking in gear, and they definitely are forced down by something called the Warden. the characters are prisoners.
or slaves
not sure
Hmm, Maybe its a military thing. Like they dont want to waste manpower to eliminate the threat so they use prisoners?
tbh i'd argue that the government probably doesn't know about what's down there
or even that it was anything more than a mining facility
would make sense to put in prisoners or such, as they have to upkeep those people, by sending them in to clear or do stuff for them they just win on it because either they die or do a valueable job for the goverment
also it's probably the mexican government
Probably
Well, it's not confirmed it's on the Yucatan peninsula
but I've gotta say, it probably is
I think it might be a black ops sort of deal where they messed up bioweapon or found some alien life and now they have to covertly contain or salvage it. Or it could be the same sort of thing but with a private installation because capitalism.
Thats grossly oversimplifying though.
i mean id probably go with some form of the latter they do say the word warden in the first trailer
I personally like the idea of a combo of the two, like it could be that they found alien life or some deep undiscovered thing down in the complex and through years of experimentation to make it into a bioweapon they did some bad shit that lead to the current state of the complex.
just guessing though
thats possible the recent view of the mission has you going down there for some sample data of something could have something to do with the creatures you fight.
OMG, Whats if it wasnt a weapon at all? What if it was a cure?
I mean
like i said the mission has you going for some sample data could be for anything
that could have been the orignally planned end result
^
either way, something went very wrong, and people lost control of the complex
also think that red light is for tracking and the fluids from the inside of the creatures make the light brighter than what it is
The ultimate conundrum with a bioweapon is getting it to target only enemies and not your own side. So having a cure and keeping it for yourself is the most important aspect of a bioweapon. So needing a cure is sort of implied?
Well, What im saying is that they were looking for a cure for another disease. It went all fucked up and...maybe the disease adapted to the in progress cure and mutated people and spread through the instalation? Just an idea idk
who knows
Yea, but that red light they seem to react to it everytime it goes off
Idk if you all noticed but their butts are infected
Pretty badly
same with their faces though
I think it's their orifices in general lol
looks like it
because a lot of people die
how about "SANTONIAN"
maybe there isn't a way to safely send in specialists... I.E. what if this is essentially a first response unit.
to answer my own question - it seems sh-t has been bad for a while so it doesn't make sense to send in a first response team like that.
They're prisoners sent in against their will. They're not specialists
Or a first response unit with military training.
He's saying that sending in specialists would make much more sense than prisoners
There's probably a explanation for that in the final game.
Probably to keep something secret
Getting the military or police involved would implicate the warden in illegal activities.
Well, it kind of helps that it's supposedly set in a remote part of mexico
I didn't see that many big towns when I looked at GMaps
illegal activities. it can explain a weapon in a makeshift style
It's in the near future, officially.
hold on a fat second
I think she's in one of these suckers
looks like an elevator at night in the mall😬
They're prisoners taken out of hydrostasis and being controlled by someone who you the player are playing as
So if the orifices are so fucked up then maybe they're infected by...you know..like physically implanting the virus?
doesn't seem that it's injected
Considering that at least one of the subjects has a high infection level
8-9 sec, lightning and thunder, i.e. loading the cab is in the open air.
the mine itself, it is huge for 22 seconds,
24 seconds you can see the crane and the installation of the descent (and they are alien to the mine),
33-37 sec, faults of the place of arrival are visible
oh yeah that reminds me
in a couple days I'll have my video on the breakdown of the first cin trailer up & shared
fun fact about in the cin trailer?
It tells you how deep you are going
lemme grab the screenie
it's not actually that deep
see anything interesting?
Depth: 427 feet
that's suprisingly not as deep as I had originallly thought
that's only a third of a mile
I would have assumed it would be closer to a couple miles deep
If you look at the rundown animation there's several layers to the complex so it runs deeper than that.
Yeah but there's even more to it.
still pretty shallow for the third level from the top
I'm sure that the deeper parts are more than just a several hundred feet deep though
Santonian industries (mine owner) vs Cortex (owner of prisoners and their management interface)🙃
According to the funky santonian industries site that ludvig linked once, Santonian industries is a "strategic investors group" if you check the webpage's code. OwO
Hm
also right now my favorite character is Hackett
so from what i saw in the gameplay, something infected them and this team you play as is to get in the vault at the end and secure what ever is in there and get out, am i on the right track?
i hope there is more to the plot/lore like id even settle for a text cutscene at the beginning say what the situation is.
What do we know for now?
By Sajuuk
The game might take place in some mexico crater.
We are prisonner forced to work for The Warden
We might be the same prisonner in a new body when they "fail"
Santorian industry own the complex but something went wrong.
Bishop is involve with santorian (one of the prisonner)
Do you think the name of the organization refers to the time of the formation of the crater?

it seems like there is a SCP vibe to the game, I really wouldn't mind if they more or less shamelessly used some more SCP stuff in the lore, like we are teams of D-class being used for experiments/dirty work

I would, I really hope they will just create their own lore 😅
Do we have any idea what time period GTFOs universe takes place in?
"future" ish
Any numbers?
there might be something in a video, but I don't know
I do know it's sci fi, which indicates future. they also have advanced weapons like automated portable turrets
My personal guess would be somewhere around 2050. Tech don't seem crazy advanced. There no laser gun or blade.
There is this weird cortex interface, and the cool scanner that let you look at the room.
kinda... Aliens level tech
Do we have any imagery that can officially represent The Warden?
The only thing we got is what the devs told us. it's all the warden, nothing more.
And we got @native shell watching on us.
Don't look into it's eye...
Is the wiki accurate when it says this...
The abandoned for many years part?
I'm assuming the abandoned for many years part was said somewhere in an interview for everything else though yes, its 100% true
Do we have any audio clips of the different characters voices?
Pretty sure the only audio we have right now is what was heard in the early gameplay vids that 10cc put out themselves back in the day...
We know the voice over for the first teaser video was Dauda.
I see, thanks.
Interesting @glossy cargo but why the same memories?

In this video Dauda, a character in GTFO, states that the people invading the complex are always different, but he still recognizes each one of them every time.
I'm composing something that should give people enough objective material to form their own opinions on the entire story line
I'll show you it when I finish it, if you want.
Definitely. I actually really like your opinion on it. It definitely makes the most sense to me from what they have shown us

From the video
It's in the sources slide too
I need to play GTFO
and shit that its coming out when im working out in the mines so i will only be on in the weekends.........................................
Hmm
All you need is some kind of freaky biohazard incident in those mines, and you can have GTFO in real life
nice
@cerulean forum kalgoorlie?
?
Oi bois I think I cracked the code
In the Trailer, Dauda says:
"Then I wake up, I'm not sweating or screaming, I'm perfectly calm, I just open my eyes and I'm awake... And It's not a nightmare, It's just part of me.. Who I am. I don't fight it, I just.. Live around it."
So we know that there is cryostasis. Rite? and that they recognize each other every time (the lads who head down there)
So maybe, If they Die down there.. The just wake up In a different body, and try again with a reset memory? (before the failed operation started)
That's what I think it is....
Dauda is somehow being used as a voice for the monsters, saying that he recognizes them every time, but somehow they're not the same.
I believe that infers that the characters consciousnesses are uploaded into bodies that are recovered from hydrostasis units. It would also be supported by the neural link we say most recently in one of the trailers.
ye
But what if they are controlling the prisoners avatar style?
So their main body is in a safe place while they command puppets?
Don’t know if this has been discussed about really, but if that is the case that their consciousness is put into a new body as such, would there be a possibility that the deceased body could possibly mutate into one of the creatures by chance or? 🤔
yeah
that's what's going on in one part of the trailer
one of the screens has an "infection level: high" on it
):<
🤔
we will find out
Yeah I think the Mexico theory is correct.
Its almost like its some kind of human experimentation that went awry. Also it doesn't appear to be that far into the future. Already in America our normal guns and optics you can buy in regular gun stores can easily make the things you see currently. They're just not fully automatic for civilians. Heck take a trip down to the range and you'll see them all over, in various patchwork style to that, but in much better condition.
The Demon Tick seems to be the real clue as to what it is.
We definitely can’t make bioscanners though.
Also civilians can own NFA transferable fully automatic weapons in the United States.
That's true. I don't have an NFA full auto, but my AR setup has a Holosun 510C and a Vortex Micro magnifier, and I've got a Thermal Imager on a flip to the side mount I can attach to the side for Thermal vision at night. Plus the standard weapon light.
There is one note though, we dont' have bioscanners, but we do have flip to the side motion detectors as seen in the COD2 game. Thats kinda what my thermal attachment looks like except it does thermal imaging.
Well, it is set a little bit in the future
in say like 20 years or so, will we have a bioscanner....
We don’t have motion detectors like in Aliens tho
I doubt it’s 20 years in the future. Especially with all the neural link stuff and how deep the ruins are.
either way, it's in the "near" future
I’d bet that it could even be a couple hundred but in a more post apocalyptic way. Like guns aren’t that advanced because the knowledge to make super fancy stuff was lost.
so circa 50 years maybe
Naw we actually do have those things... but they have limitations currently. As I'd said the flip to the side motion detector you see in COD2 and my Thermal Imager I have on my AR do indeed do what they say... but...
Its got limitations...
The Motion detector can't detect through walls... and my Thermal Imager, which can see in the dark can't see through walls or through glass.
That’s why I said the motion tracker from Aliens
If you haven’t seen the movie... lol
Yeah I remember it, from Aliens 2. But we do indeed have something similar currently, and they attach to your AR or other piccatini rail. So this isn't that terribly far in the future.
But it can track through walls and at a pretty good distance
Also incidentally the film is Aliens. The first one is Alien.
it's almost like you can tell the devs are fans of the movie alien
Aliens
Yeah definite Aliens vibes lol
That’s actually what I thought about most of the IGN gameplay
Especially the retro tech terminals
I wonder if BASH commands will work on them...
Seriously though its really not that far in the future... If this was me that got dropped into that situation just given my current gear I'd be dropping in there with the setup I detailed above, and about 10 magazines worth of ammo. And I'm not alone, the guy next to me in my cube has an AR but he's using a different Red Dot (Aimpoint), and has a quad rail with a hand brace... I'm using a front vertical grip.
Another guy that came in to work with us from an outside company had a Kris Vector in .45 caliber and he was using a different reflex sight.
First wipe > "GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!"
Well heh, you know then, you've been out to the Range. All the gear you see in GTFO is already available and widely used in the USA just by civilians. Even if our Motion detectors aren't as strong or our flip to the side Thermal Imagers can't see through walls... we do have them heh.
But some technology doesn’t advance at the rate you think
That’s why I think it’s a bit of a more distant future that fell in tech a bit
Any theory on the soldiers/playable characters?
From the gameplay reveal trailer, sounds like they have to complete whatever task that was assigned to them so that they can "go home". Are they prisoners of some kind? Indebted to someone powerful?
they are prisoners
I would reccomend checking out the steam forum
Runar has a great post called "What we know about gtfo" or something
and I'd reccomend you check that out
I will tomorrow! Thanks for the tip!
I would explain, but I'm finishing up some homework/tired, sorry
No problem, if it's info that's in that post, I'll get it 😁
either way, that's got most major lore things, minus the pinned message about GTFO's location
This link:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GTFO/comments/7nhvxw/setting_likely_takes_place_in_chicxulub_yucatán/
the lore is
alien and predator collided and made a second earth
however this second earth was so stinky and smelly a alpha team goes in and starts scouting the area
coconut nooo
n then
:-(
but
it's important!!!!!!!!!
it's not trueeeee
shhhhh
:(
rewrites the lore.

it be funny if killer queen bite the dust was here

@sand pawn killer queen is in your eye. There’s no escaping it now.
KIRA QUEEN! DAISUN NO BAKUDAN! BITES ZA DUSTO!

Turns out GTFO is all set inside the minds of coma patients and the players are sifting through their broken minds to find sensitive data.(not)
We did learned from the IGN gameplay that the prisonner are likely mind transfered to other body.
could it be possible that the bodies are of prisoners, but the minds are of an unknown group of people?
And what if that group of peoples is us, the players?
Let's keep images relevant to gtfo lore.
GTFO is matrix
@cloud swift
The other body is the prisoner
they're brought out of hydro stasis for your remote control
The title GTFO is actually in reference to the feeling of these prisoners whose bodies have been hijacked remotely and are forced to watch in horror as forces beyond their control lead their mortal coil to their potential demise
That is... kinda possible haha
wait who made an underground facility so deep and how hasn't it collapsed
does anybody knows
or it isn't as deep as I think
I'd think (from my own experinces as well as own intelligence as sub-par as it is) that proper foundation and architecture should be able to support any place underground for quite a few years
Fan tgeory say it is a meteirite crater in mexico. Abd people digged tthat to recover the material
Hydro stasis? First time I heard about something like this, I usually hear about cryostasis. But would make sense, if the prisoners are actually being hijacked, and not just watched through implants (and not using a helmet with a hud with a camera attached to it, the cheaper option)
Also, wouldn't it be a waste to hijack prisoner's bodies just to send them into slaughter in the pit? Wouldn't be easier to just blackmail them, or even use machinery like drones, or even robots, if you got so much tech just laying around?
By the way, what do we call the "place" where well go? I called it 'the pit', but I've seen some people call it "the hole", "the cavern" and "the depths". Is there an official name for this?
The Complex
The spooky town
Deep dark down deep dark
@ivory herald The "Body Hijack" can be explained by our mind-jacking heroes being experts in this sort of complex-diving, so they just use bodies of prisoners instead of prisoners themselves to do so
Like, we have the experience and information regarding complex-diving, so it's better to hijack a body of a dude and dive yourself instead of briefing / training the prisoner and sending him instead
maybe that's why in the Announcement trailer Dauda has these nightmares about people screaming at him, since he is an expert diver who dove in many bodies, and the people whose bodies he used and whose bodies were mutilated in the Complex by the creature are screaming at him with "Such hate and anger"
like some form of lowkey guilt
Oh, I tought that the prisoners where people with military backgrounds, that would be considered 'expendable soldiers' by their government. And I had interpreted that narrator as being the "voice of the monster" lol
Prisoners have no background experience on military
Moreso they're just put into the complex with little to no training, and given weapons and items
Do this or die. And if you die, I just pull more prisoner.
Also I think the term "prisoner" describes the players as "guys that get sent into a total dumpsterfire on a regular basis by some being named Warden to do tasks, that are stuck in some sort of system that transfers their consciousness into a body"
Or the people who's boddies we're driving can still hear things, which is kinda horrifying
Sounds a lot like "sleep paralysis", where you can see, hear, think and feel, but cannot move.
🤔 brehs coming in here talking about the lore without reading previous chat entries
nope, I'm all in on speculation 😄
I scrolled up enough for a JoJo refrence and turned around
i guess we're some kind of security, only wake up when shit happens?
@fervent tiger You're more likely to get some help if you post in #gtfo-technical-support
try having someone invite you to a game @fervent tiger
too see if you can get around it
cool
So.
By looking into to terminal, I guess, we are androids and people in complex are androids too.
They called HSU, status(not like humans, but robots like deactivated and etc) and then their names, age.
So, our minds just being transported to robots.
Sounds true based on the fact that we can't die
Santonen Mining Corporation... the reason we are here
Any info for surface world
nope
wait... looking at the elevator system, is the path blocked to D1?? (fourth level)
I’m pretty sure we’re humans with a neural link since some of the characters have gas masks, HSUs are sort of like satis pods where bodies are stored until needed.
Health suspension units or whot
I think it’s what some one said earlier about it being hydro stasis
it is hydrostasis, says so in the intro cinematic
Hm makes sense
Yes
So just like we see in anime
And scifi films
Suspended in water and possibly connected to tubes
Nah it’s more like fallout 4
not connected to tubes, just suspended in water
Fo4 is cryostasis
Yeah I was saying more like
what id like to know is why we are so desperate to find out whats in the mine
Maybe tasked to retrieve experiment results?
It’s probably some sort of weapon entity or virus
They are able to shoot projectiles
maybe... the Santonen Mining Corporation did this, so why are we sending in prisoners
what if it already is on the surface
I doubt it though
What if the bottom of the mine is safety
some of the crates say 'CNTRL Technologies'
And we’re waking all of the managers to open the door
that kind of would make sense, the fourth level has a red tint to it instead of the blue tint on other levels
sorry, Santonian
it feels like they are infested with some sort of parasite, althought every subject sent in is labeled as "infected", plus apparently air is contaminated
reminds me of RE las plagas, spreading through spores before the thing itself grows inside its host
The mine probably had some sort of rare mineral, but then parasites slowly infected people
could it be a fungal parasite like in 'The Last of Us'
What if it's originally inside the minerals
their insides are also lined with egg like pustules, females especially
I like my theory about the human race no longer needing a body and we are like on a hard drive
another company is called 'Omneco'
wouldnt be far off really, considering the teams are controlled through cortex implants
Yeah
its like piloting a puppet
so this is not like, the only place this thing probably happens in universe right?
Maybe it’s a one time resource
it depends really, it could be localized in said mine
like the people doing this, whether the prisoners or mind controllers, probably do this as a job
And the resource itself is a parasite due to the crystal like growths
i doubt its a job
Yeah
it seems more forced
Due to the inability to leave
well if the prisoners are mind controlled, more
sending in prisoners, the prisoners are being controlled by mentally unstable people
they feel more organic really, looking closely, so far females get the growth, males get sharp teeth.
havent seen if fem infected have the giant death tongue like males do
What about the tenta bros
so would it be plausible to say that the females are dominant?
giants and "sentries" are semi unique
We need a name for them
i like 'sentries' for the tentacled one
i wonder if the corpses strewn around are really dead, or just in the process of mutating
so are the controllers also forced to do thing
I think the controllers are sane people using the prisoners body like puppets
yeah
id wager its pretty traumatic getting down there, even if youre in another body
mental health wise
yeah you still get all the bad stuff happening to you
I wonder what happens if the wifi signal goes out
through sensory info
intro cinematic has a little spiel about out mental health
tfw your ISP throttles your puppet connection
the computer says that we are unfit to go but someone overrides it
the prisoners probably die by monsters or shuffle themselves off the mortal coil

Nobody:
since they all seem to be infected it could be like a failsafe
Gtfo sleepers
class action lawsuit against Space ISP for better murder-wifi
I’m just curious on why they don’t all bundle up
Most rooms their like really tight packed
And other times their in a corner each
the monsters?
some of it might be videogames but even if there is some communal intelligence, it might not be all that smart
they seem hiveminded
they dont seem to notice if a room next to them get cleared
Some what they are more like the zombies from the last of us then anything
It could also Be localised hive intelligence
Some rooms have a some what hive mind connection
theyre pack minded for sure, agitated by light (unless it glowsticks for some reason), movement and sound
maybe its in the stage of becoming one
Oh yeah does the portable high beam do anything other then absurdly bright
doesnt seem to, helpful to get a better look at a chamber
I wonder why the infected are translucent
Also C foam is just re branded flex tape
possibly just weakened skin from infection
to show you the power of c foam
Cfoam then melee
i ripped this door in half!
Is fun
it could be because theyre somewhat hollow in the inside
But wait, C-Foam grenades are better
I wonder if we can do the thing in the trailer where you like pulse a room out
And get the general layout
Yeah
The alarms one?
if you die during scan sequence, the ui still shows stuff like "stand on points" etc
Oh yeah
That happens once but vanished the next run
They probably didn't expect you to die during scanning
Funny
on that note
Then god dam alarm scans tho
when you defend during scan, the infested are different colored
darker
closer to corpses on the floor even
They are like that when you agitate a lot of them to
o
did you notice that some sleepers when you destroy their "head" , dont die, but still keep attacking while decapitated? that's horrifying. maybe the corpses we find down the complex are in process of mutating, something like Dead Space.
here's a thought, what if the mining company, Santonian, is a shell company
I think it's like alphabet in a way
Like, Alphabet owns google and all the other stuff
yeah a giant murder tongue came at me from a mushy torso
Idiot here.
So what are these things? The uh, potato-head looking things.
tentacle boys?
if you mean the enemies, most likely mining corporation personnel infested by something
what exactly infests them remains a mystery until beta/full release. however it is noted that player chars are infected
So playing Dead men walking huh?
what if its like in left 4 dead?
🎵 fungus, calling it now 🎵
they are infected but arent turning
id say its close to that one scp, i forgot its name
number* flesh that hates is its name
the d class they used to research are also infected, just didnt succumb yet*
i also dont know what scp youre talking about rn
SCP-610
yee
oh that one
Please stay on topic of the current channel, this is gtfo lore :) otherwhise take it to #general or #amba-general ❤
sorry, was just comparing ; v;
So are our characters infected aswell or is it just implied, since it says infection lvl unknown
it varies, i remember seeing low and high as infection levels
I'd say for our characters sake the warden should just retire us like suggested but I dont think that would be much better XD
wall of text incoming. So far from direct observation from gameplay a mining operation has contacted some sort of parasite, a mutagen or both at the same time. Said mutagen drastically alters its host organism, with males and females having drastically different functions. Males seem to be more combat oriented, head split into a massive jaw lined with sharp teeth and housing a massive tendril in their chest cavity. Females on other hand seem more skittish, their bodies covered in egg like pustules which they fire at would be aggressors, keeping some distance from their target. Both types also seem to have their chest cavities hollowed out. Additionally there seems to be a variation of those two, with male variant being almost giant, with increased muscle mass, while female variant acts as a sentry, patrolling a chamber it resides in while occasionally "probing" the room with tendrils, releasing a screech upon detection which agitates nearby infected. So far its not shown if the host needs to be alive for mutation to complete, however considering how very few corpses (which are mid transformation) are laying about and how many infected there are, i feel it doesnt matter.
really wish discord would let me format it properly
The scouts are female?
seems so, i havent had a proper look at them on account of not wanting to be shredded if i fail to kill it in time
it does seem to have same body as females, head atleast
A scouts head resembles a females head?
You know it's covered in tentacles and other biomass
What if this one is a anomaly compared to the others?
thats the thing with subtypes, theyre rare enough to be their own thing, but not rare to be unique mutations
Perhaps
it also performs a very specific function, which makes it spookier
No u
Owo
Oh yee, sorry my memory is awful
trying to figure out whats different about glowstick lights compared to normal flashlight
flashlight agitates them, glowstick doesnt
even if its right under them
scouts are creepy
but i guess they should be
also @last saffron if you hold shift when you hit enter
you can do line breaks
something i dont understand is if the characters are being somehow mind-controlled or they move by their own will. dauda is a nigerian guy, which is the "bald" one with a simple gas mask.
'monsters' are normal in this planet the 'humans' are the actual aliens
XD
@lost ore sometimes it says that the characters are prisoners and that makes sense since theyre pulled out of little stasis pods
they are because we are the aliens
data mine the game you can find hidden files placed by devs
its arg
yeah but when they are being dropped they emit a shorth breath like they are choking.
thats kinda weird.
well you see all the characters have gas mask
its hard to breathe in their atmosphere
or you know they could be nervous and takes a big breath to prepare to die lol
simonGasp.wav
plus being woken out of stasis is probably pretty startling
its probably shock or something
mmm maybe. but when you go down the atmosphere looks kinda rare, with particles, maybe hinting that its infected as well
so they use the gas masks to avoid being more infected maybe?
i wonder what would mean the title, lore-related
the pods you come out of are obviously controlled by someone
and i dont think its actually get the fuck out
Players get to play as a team of scavengers, forced to explore and extract valuable artefacts from a vast underground complex that has been overrun by horrifying monsters
thats not it tho
?
oh
thats from the game store
yeah thats true.
just kidding about before i dont know anything lul
XD
yeah you're getting a dna sample off of a person
it also does say forced, so its not entirely improbable that they getting artifacts and stuff
the sleepers seem to be divided in females and males
mind control isnt out of the question cuz alot of the stuff has a cortex thingy logo
mmm yeah
if you listen what dauda says in the first trailer, its maybe hinted.
its pretty ambiguous.
i think dauda may be the warden that they reference at the beginning of the first trailer
Is there a list of what we know about the lore anywhere?
There are the pinned vids.
ANYONE NOTICE THE TERM HYDRO
sorry for caps
but we might be in some sort of cryo sleep just with water
it's hydrostasis Jman
hey, i think we can figure out how long the bodies on ground are dead for
all their blood is coagulated, but they havent started decomposing
there has to be a time span right there
not really
without bacteria or insects decomposing can slow down alot
and i dont see any insects that far down
Oh... So Flashlight agitates em?
Yes, monster are light sensitive.
Taking notes
But they do not get triggered by Glowstick.
It's always available, it remplaces the original flashlight
Also Intrigues me why we going to a deep down hole to get some DNA sample from something we dont even know what it is
So I think it's pretty cool to get one in the team, it's pretty useful when you have a lack of light
Are those things humans transformed by some kind virus, parasite, fungus or alien?
If it is some kind of virus, it's pretty legit to go down where the "original" is.
It seems like a virus or a parasite
For those who don't know the game/level takes place in Mexico, within the state of Yucatán in a town called Chicxulub. The significance of this location is that a real-life asteroid created an impact crater that was buried underneath the Yucatán peninsula located near Chicxulub, which is likely where the game takes place.
The game could have story elements tied to the real world Chicxulub Crater drilling site because as of May 1st, 2016 a team has drilled to a depth of 700 meters, which is equivalent to 2296.59 ft, and in-game screenshots suggest the game takes place 2523 feet below the surface which is surprising coincidence.
Final target drilling depth reached is 1,335 meters, which is 4379.92 feet which could shed light on how far the Scavengers can go down.
The asteroid brought a life-form with it, because the creatures have human anatomy they could be infected workers.```
Data mined that stuff from games files?
reddit theory
So more a parasite than a virus. 🤔
I would guess a Parasite too
all that info is taken and theorised from trailers as they revealed location etc
Because a virus would be infecting the Scavengers easily
A parasite unless its a brain one
Just, I don't understand something with this theory. If this "human modified" came by this meteorite, why would they go deep in a Complex ?
People say that the Scavengers are Felons that must go or die
More like a death sentencec
They majorly look as if they take huge likeness from last of us fungal based infections, as well as the particles floating and gas masks needed ad the fog clearer tool it is definitely airborne so it is possible that is parasitic that just causes contamination to any one that breathed it and just second handedly spread
If its Fungal
Maybe we are completely in the wrong here
maybe its some sort of Contact thing like the Thing
Maybe an experimental test turns in the wrong way in The Complex, and we need to go the deepest possible to get those DNA Samples
but problem is its like a fleshy fungus it doesn't really grow any where so unless its a unknown fungus that only grows on organic matter
Wardern landed in the asteroid, location was mined, once the asteroid was opened it managed to infect those working on site.
And Theres must be a A Victim Zero or the The Real thing
Warden would be victim zero and/or founding father of the infection
I think Warden is the Entity that, controls you and gives your the mission for going after the stuff
Hm
This is maybe the first mission of the game maybe we should have others like : Get some Fancy equipment
ahhh yea that makes more sense
I don't think this is the first mission
Can be the la st
When you look at the Rundown, we're litteraly in the middle of the Complex
i misread this "GTFO is about a team of four people trapped in an underground Complex, kept there against their will, forced down into the depths to carry out different objectives for this unknown entity called the Warden." thought they were going down to find "the warden"
No no, This Warden guy, I dont know
Nah, the Warden is the mysterious guy that force you down into the complex. evil boy.
But maybe the Warden is infected, and need DNA Sample to create an antidote for himself.
Maybe he controls the complex
And Is a sadistic and likes to see people die while fighting agaisnt monsters
More like.. If you don't go down into the complex, I kill you, If you do, you only get up with what I want to live another day.
unknown entity, so def not human, Ai or alien life form?
Maybe a Guy, Girl,AI, Group Of People like the C-Counciouness from S.T.A.L.K,E.R
What ever the Warden is, it's almost 4am here, need some sleep
Good bye guys, and good luck for the reflexion 😛
Warden can an Alien posing as a Human too
When you go down the complex you can see bodies of other scavengers
reading the wiki "The enemies in GTFO are confirmed not to be zombies or aliens"
" the possible origins could be fungal or parasitic in nature that require a human host, given that the creatures exhibit human features and anatomy such as two arms, legs, and ears. When a creature suffers fatal damage green sacks are expelled as a result and “pop” when exposed to the surrounding environment, which suggests it cannot survive without its host and these potentially could be parasites that contribute to the host’s mutation."
They were Human but now they are not
yea
Ok, Scratch the Warden possible alien
We now confirm that War den is paramilitary group forcing felons to Grab DNA samples and fancy equipment to help them Develop weapons of mass destruction
👍
Bio weapons and such
Maybe Government or maybe Private interests
Warden is just a cover
As you can see in the menu of the game.. You can see that they track everything of the scavengers
Brain activity, Heart rate, blood, etc etc
@native shell Cmon warden Tell me your secrets
Or maybe its Cthulhu
Looking forward to it
I think the player is a prisoner, with the creatures infected humans
^ already been confirmed pre much
what about parasites?
parasites are a speculated cause
infected/parasite go hand in hand
cause the mosters are confirmed not zombies or aliens so theyd have to be infected by something
spores are totally floating through the air. Our guys have gas masks of a sort. Airborne disease???
What if its a new strain of solanum
we do wear gasmasks
Sure is a disease of some sort; it is airborne; also on login there is a mention of infection level. Probably are people in early infection stage being send down. Probably been imprisoned as a mean of quarantine?
i like that one ^^^
its seems like the prisoners possibly are infected, maybe its really slow acting and the gas masks are just because they are deep underground in an area that probably has weirdness with its air
like areas without oxygen and stuff, or high pressure due to depth
I was thinking bioweapon gone wrong that escaped containment
are hsu's have a cure?
I was thinking its probably a virus that was on the asteroid that killed the dinos and when the scientists drilled into the area they unleased it
The character you are.
we play as the prisoners
why they hyave guns lol
because they cant finish their objectives without them
thats also probably why we wake up from stasis already over the pit
oh thats true huh
Well, when you extract you go back to the lift- so it's feasible that you get put back into stasis after.
keycard*
i dont think so, but maybe
somebody had to have built it, which means the virus or whatever wasnt always there
who are the hsus? the workers trapped?
who knows
I think they're just bio-organic mass with resistance to the infection.
Since the HSU is a container.
they might be workers, researchers and even other expeditions that simply didnt make it
oh idk its crazy cuz they have full names \
The former person contained within has value for something.
We just don't know what yet.
so what happens at the end?
Makes sense to me that the Warden would want them for research.
i didnt make it lol the alarm killed me
You literally have to run from the HSU to the lift.
i know the objective is to rescue someone, but ive never finished it
u have to run zombie run style?
the alarm killed my group each time too
Oh yeah.
i don't think you even save them
any tips for that?
It's rough to do with no ammo, since the enemies never stop spawning.
you grab a dna sample and boogie
Yeah, run quick to the end, and make sure you hold up the exit as best as you can.
me and my guys wasted our ammo clearing a dead end
they just keep coming im pretty sure, you just gotta get out of there
we tried and got over run
Yeah, you just gotta GTFO.
ha
And you have a security point to hold at the entrance for about a minute or so.
yeah try and take the same path back out
oh jesus
good news is the basic level layout is the same
So you grab the DNA that's requested, and extract with it, for purposes unknown.
jsut stuff within the levels is different
you guys think they're gonn a put more objectives like find resources or like a tarkov style mode?
I think different objectives, definitely.
maybe
Tarkov style, I doubt it.
my theory is that you are working to get information about the cause of the outbreak or w/e
its still really early so we dont know what theyre adding
I think this is a test by a governmental agency to test the potency and efficacy of a new bio-weapon.
i really love the idea of a dungeon crawler like this go down retrieve and get out
yeah someone said something similar earlier
no, i dont think so
or that the group using the prisoners is using info from the mine to develop weapons
Set the thing up to be run by an AI, and if you got prisoners, you got volunteers.
Literally zero risk if the installation is on a dwarf planet with only one way in or out.
i think the researchers just lost all their research down there so theyre just sending prisoners to get it
theyd be losing prototypes with each failed expedition
i think the site is in mexico?
and ther world is an apocalypse
yep
the running theory is that its in the mineshaft being dug in the crater of the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs
chuxuxuxxuxub
probably
Or here's a fun twist- what if the AI is broken, with unlimited access to cryo-stasis subjects that it just keeps sending down there with no real greater purpose other than broken programming?
so like the reapers flawed logic from mass effect
No, just like a broken program loop.
thats closer to glados than the reapers
Yeah, Glados is closer to what I'm thinking.
i like lore for any game i play so im excited about what they come up with
Ditto.
Private message the bot Reaper.
im confused
good thing it isnt like paranormal cuz lates lol
i did didnt i?
no you put it in the lore chat
Right click > Message
may i ask what PMing the bot does?
jerrrrrrrrrrry
You just pinged it.
lets you get the key
useless
gotcha
im definately buying this when we get an official release date though
^^^
Yuuuuup.
If this game got super successful, and they had the means to do it and connections for the license.. It would be amazing to see the scavengers being able to go down even deeper, and encounter actual "Aliens" as DLC. Giving players the 'from the movie experience'...
Players would be like, "Now THIS... is what Colonial Marines SHOULD have felt like".. Dude, people would be on the game for forever if that actually happened tho.
Imagine having to work your way all the way to the Queen, and having to take her out.
ehh, aliens would clash with the theme too much. A standalone game in alien setting maybe, but mixing GTFO with them wouldnt really work
By actual Aliens you mean Xenomorphs ? Aka the Perfect Organism ? 😛
got an odd behaving "beauty" over here and managed to get a better look
the rest were acting as usual, except they reacted to moving even if they were in relaxed state, not sure if a glitch or intended
only females seem to react that way, males are normal
this one is unusual because she didnt react to light at all
@last saffron naw xenomorphs would work. You just tweak the map, instead of the xenos being in plain sight, they would be hiding. And as you progress they start attacking in waves. It could totally work, but might not be as fun. Also they would need to make it so the enemies climb on ceilings and walls.
Totally, and the maps down deeper could be geared for Alien traversal, where they'd be in hiding places, camouflaged against black organic walls, in vents, spit from the ceilings (imagine you look up just to have this thing jump at your face). I think it could work, because Aliens can pretty much end up anywhere.
The beauty of classic horror is that none much is explained.. you just kinda accept. No one has to answer the question of 'how the aliens got down there', .. maybe they were down in the complex for YEARS in this nest that existed, and in order to scavenge further, they have to destroy the nest and eliminate the queen. Seems legit, and the threat would be entirely different than the current monsters. Alien xenomorphs would be sneakier, stealthier, some creeping up on players unexpected, (maybe if they are more alone and separated, you may get targeted), while others would attack you in group swarms.
i have a theory. i think that some of the misteries told to us in the first trailer are solved right now. what dauda tell us is he "listens" people screaming at him, and after that he wakes up. my theory is: cause of all characters being infected to different degrees, they are connected somehow to the creatures of the Complex, which were probably humans before. after becoming fully infected, the sleepers become part of a hive mind, protecting whatever they are guarding, and attack everyone not infected who appears. seems that while in hydrostasis, the characters are sleeping and the sleepers are "talking" to them, that's why dauda says that he doesnt understand what they say but recognize them somehow, them wanting him to "feel what they feel".
i think that they're just reptile monsters that were in the U.S and decided to overthrow the human race, then invading us which then made them mutate into another form of humans and then making us the reptiles in their stead, and now we must scavenge the U.S sewers to escape for freedom and prosperity! (idk im aussie)
Your welcome for the insight

our squads rolling into the mines like
Not the best quality screenshot, but I noticed some of the monsters take what looks like a praying position. Any significance?
i wouldnt call it praying, its more of them assuming a fetal position more or less. as strange as it is, when hurt people have a tendency to "curl up" or hold affected parts close to themselves
they seem to be holding, or trying to, hold onto their heads, same for some corpses
we know that the common sleeper is a male and the one that shoot is a female but what about the scout or the giant one ?
variations of both
tall boys can be either shooters or strikers, with same distinctions as "normal" counterparts
on closer look scout is also female
so the taller bois are a mutation of the male sleeper and the scout is the mutation of the female one?
they dont seem to shred their clothing, rather just take it off
wonder if its compulsory, the infection\parasite causing irritation if the host is wearing anything, causing them to strip down eventually
although some corpses are clothed
maybe the infection just noms it. well depending if the fabric is organic or synthetic
it seems to be discarded since theres clothes laying around randomly, with or without body parts
I mean try sleeping / being groggy and ask a friend to shine a flashlight in your face
I am sure you'll be more than "disturbed"
thing is, they react even if you shine on their legs. whatever infests them made them really sensitive to anything but chem lights
My two cents is the asteroid carried RNA that melded with some sort of deep sea organism that is very quickly evolving towards being landbased. When they enter the searching state they're using bioluminescence to try and trick something into moving, and a bunch of deep sea critters also have transluscent skin like the monsters
Could also explain the extreme light sensitivity
Oh ye, the mining station is set in the crater from an asteroid credited with killing dinosaurs
Clearly they aren't trying to warn you away like a rattlesnakes rattle, so deepsea hunting tactics would make sense for why they pulse red and why their projectiles glow
yes, they are really light sensivite, but werid on a sidenote, jsut from a player perspective. i would also like opvote the idea of a walking sleeper,
AND the way they're all for the most part unconscious until they're stimulated could be a fragment of the extreme energy conservation needed to survive the deep sea
it really is plausible that theyre conserving energy since theres no "food" nearby. it could also explain why there arent many bodies around
curiously, you can see that even dismembered parts are undergoing, or were undergoing transformation
that would be intense
(our mission is to get that sample) The Chicxulub Crater was formed 66 million years ago by an asteroid strike which resulted in a mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs. A team of scientists has a plan to drill for rock samples in the area. Only to discover, they have unleashed an unimaginable nightmare awaiting to roam the world
is that the story? Based on what I saw I assumed the warden just tasked us to go down into the basement to collect some laundry. And the basement is full of NEETs that have never seen the light of day and that's why they are covered in shroom looking things and do Naruto runs (that's my joke head canon)
You fella's over here in the lore channel seem to be having some interesting/fun convos~
in all fairness, lore is fun to dig up and discuss, or come up theories (or silly theories)
Mind if I toss up a silly little wall-post of a phone-make-shift lore post-suggestion-kinda thing I did in a different channel? 🙂
I feel it might either spark an amusing convo, or light some other more creative peoples' fires to write stuff! x3
go for it
If you want a subtle-mechanical lore script for a specfici enemy....
"Entity ID: Infection Type #037
Alias: Scout / Feeler
Appearance: Tall, lithe with a bulbous glowing head. Seemingly covered in various bulbous growths that emanate bioluminescent effects.
Threat Level: Moderate
Known Info: Entity designated 'Scout' seems to roam aimlessly in zones, typically found to be surrounded by groups of "Sleepers"~reference Entity ID-#02. Target will then periodically cease movement and curl backwards, before extending the growths scattered across it's head out in the form of tendrils.
Upon making contact with any living organisms, tendrils quickly reel back and the targets entire body will harden before letting out an ear-piercing screech to alert all nearby zones. Thus causing a "horde" to awaken and rush towards the alert.
Recommended Actions: Approach with extreme caution, utilize any methods to neutralize target with immediate results. Previous expedition results show the target can also be temporarily immobilized before the hardening-screeh process can occur."
Or whatever else...I dunno, it's hard to write this on my phone. Etc-etc.
Giant wall-post, gooooo!!
Please note this was written on a tiny mobile phone. An it was in regards to a general discussion about implementing obtainable-lore-info on enemies/environments/etc In-game. I made the post to try and dissuade other players from asking/putting "statistical/mechanical" information in the lore-bits they wanted. An to stick with more "Researchy-feeling / vague information bits"
Love the SCP vibe!
Since this is the actual lore channel, I figured it might be interesting/amusing to toss it in here and see what comes up, if anything. :)
Part of me expects/hopes someone who's even more obsessed with those kinda details/formatting to take my little phone-written-baby thing there and turn it into some amazing masterpiece o.o
i enjoy biological things, biology in general has been my favorite subject
The use of the clinical tone fits the mystery of the universe very well.
so naturally im drawn to speculate on nature/roles of these things
Well aside from grammatical issues I made, do we thin it's something that would be interesting and trying to push for devs / suggestions / in-game lore implementation? Or think it should just be something to push onto the Player repository / wiki?
you know how main menu has this delve stuff etc, with sector map selection
im pretty sure the lore the devs are inserting is very subtle
I've always been the "wiki" route guy, cause it's easy / lazier.
But I do sooomewhat enjoy obtaining in-game lore info or stuff through expeditions... Kinda similar to Risk of Rain (1/2)?
since its supposedly warden interface, how about we have a "subject detail" tab in there to house the lore things
Oh I saw plenty of the subtle lore text in boot up, run down, and the subliminal imaging as well. (Cause I screen-capped my game so I could play each frame in slow-mo. xD)
im pretty sure there are some in-game lore already... we already have the names of some corporations
Strategic Investments Group? I saw Santonian Mining Industries
there was also 'CNTRL Technologies'
that actually explains alot
- Santonian Strategic Investements Group, and
- author = F. Bishop
Bishop is the name of one of the characters you play as in gtfo
oh dang ur right
It's the one that's end is marked by the dino's dying out
check pins for a reddit link that I shared
it spans 3 million years plus or minus 0.7
either way, it gives you a little more info on how you get that info
but its before the mass extinction of 66 million years ago
"Demon Tick" is one, and the Coordinates is the other
ok... Santonian is the fourth stage of the Upper Cretaceous series
(also the last)
i like to think that the pathogen/parasite infesting the mining personel is a prehistoric thing, rather than something brought by the meteor
spanning 86.3 to 83.6 mya plus or minus 0.7
some creatures can survive by entering a sort of biostasis
some creatures (waterbears) can even survive vacuum
If you guys are referring to the meteor and the easter egg in stuff.... I'm gunna steal someone elses' post and share it here. ^_^
biostasis, we are in hydrostasis pods
""At 0:24 (In the original teaser trailer here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-y_N-3t7tI&t=4s ) it flashes the words "Demon Tick," and at 0:42 the coordinates 21°08'57"N 89°29'32"W appear. The coordinates lead you to Mexico, in the state of Yucatán, in a town called Chicxulub. The name Chicxulub is Yucatec Maya language, where ch’ik means "flea" or "tick", and xulub’ means "devil, demon, or horns." Chicxulub is known for the Chicxulub Crater, in which an asteroid 66 million years ago struck the Earth and killed off the dinosaurs. Recently a scientific drilling expedition has gone to the Chicxulub Crater to collect rock samples from the site. The asteroid impact site and drilling team most likely tie into the game's underground theme. Thumbs up so people can learn about this Easter egg hidden in the trailer :)""
Add GTFO to your Steam wishlist here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/493520/GTFO/ This gameplay trailer was premiered live at The Game Awards 2017. GTFO i...
wait... what if its the hydrostasis pods causing the infection?
unlikely
also waterbears can only survive in a vaccum for a couple minutes
no, like a mixture of the meteor site and the hydrostasis
It seems the hydrostasis pods is how the corporation / warden / etc manages and views the status of the subjects (our characters) stats and injection site/delivery.
because why else are we grabbing DNA samples from stasis pods with people inside them
id say the pods can get contaminated, rather than just causing infection by being there
whatever it is is most likely airborne
in life, black lung from inhaling stuff was common in miners, could be applied here, however id argue a high tech facility will have air filtering
the deployment zone looks like something erupted
not just erupted, literally burst through solid concrete and steel
that makes sense, the reinforced steel beams are bent upwards
@alpine lantern Who made that post? Where is the link?
It's in the comment section of the video itself, that I linked. In reference to their post.
It's the top-rated comment, so very top of the page.
Mhhm, anytime. Y'all seemed pretty gung-ho about your crater discussion, so I figured that might give y'all some fun. 🙂
wonder what warden does with all the samples
Splices and clones them, then inserts them into our food. Obviously.
They need more subjects for research. |3
Santionans "Strategic Investors Group" thing makes me want to believe that it's for a new type of technology.
Whether it's for a biological weapon, immortality or for simply science itself is beyond me
i think Santonian is trying for immortality
Doubt it
Well with the way the tanks/hulks can live with just their legs intact... They're on the right track for immortality! 😄
well the mind transferring could reinforce it
whatever Santonian was buidling, im pretty sure they want it kept secret
bioweapon research could be feasible. Whatever it is, its really effective in clearing things out while leaving equipment (save for doors) relatively intact
I'm hoping the end will give us a good, unexpected turn.
minus the giant hole ofcourse, ive zero clues what caused that
It's possible that they just straight up mined it
i was thinking an explosion first, but itd probably collapse the hole
i mean the drop zone shred, since it was part of the facility due to piping, steel shards pointed up
the mining theory doesnt make sense, why would there be bent metal
is it plausible that whatever caused the hole, caused the infection
id assume the entire facility is divided into deivisions, "C1" as it stands now being mainly storage
I'd just assume that i'd be a company or multiple companies who mined out the ground like that, because apart from that I can't think of anything that would cause a near perfect circular gap leading very far down, unless the gap greatly decreases in size a couple hundred feet down - Then maybe.
Yeah, I was looking at that upwards force used to break through the concrete near the extraction zone
yee i was talking about that hole, not the main shaft
It was as if something was a massively powerful amount of force broke through, which could only logically be due to an explosive, unless we have nuclear enemies.
the place appears quite humid due to fog, some zones to the extremes
Can I post screenshots I took in GTFO here?
sure
i posted a few so i dont see issue
I don’t think you’ll get in trouble evo
yess thats the one
thats where we enter from
And exit from
fog is especially dense around it
Now, i'm no engineer, but don't those spikes look strange?
ya, almost like teeth
I understand that certain iron rods or cores can be used for heavy duty construction, but those look strangely out of place.
i think those were part of main complex, twisted upwards by force since on close look they are appearing metal
they are really thick to be whats it called
the thing inside concrete
rebar
They are very old and I. That time they could of been sharpended
unless theyre are piping
it doesnt make sense why they are all pointed at the top
Or support rods
I'd assume it be due to the fact that one, they're very strong reinforcement and two, the force used to destroy that floor was insane.
And when they were ripped apart from age or whatever someone might of made a neater attempt to sharpen them to maybe get the creature impales
Impailed
As i'm pretty sure anything weaker, like hollow piping, would just break off at the edge of the abyss, due to the fact that it's so weak.
Especially considering that the complex has been abandoned for a while.
That one on the right looks more like t should be there
originally it was either a large chamber, or several smallers ones connected, judging by surrounding debris
And there seems to be limited debre there
Like not much Ruble remaining of what was there
also i'm suprised you took it then, I thought I called C-Foam bad another time
Chat log is saved through consecutive missions - A very strange thing
yeah I know
i wonder if devs read this channel 🤔
I thought I called it hard to use in the middle of a mission
my gripe about C-Foam is that it takes a fat minute to charge up and then you don't know when it's fully charged
hey so i was looking in another channel, and apparently this is from the press kit...
yea ive seen
I'm pretty sure they are the HSU's
maybe an early version of them?
but look inside of them, whats in there is not human
Could be human
heavily mutated
They could be curled up into a fetal position.
Or yeah, what I meant to say is that they could have been human. But the one on the left still looks rather human to me.
100% experimentation room
There really isn't a clear image to make a accurate assumption to what it was or is now imo
4k image?
theyre portable containment pods
i have my doubts... but it does give evidence to the bioengineering theory
Or maybe even a coltovation chamber or preservation room
Like to maybe spread whatever this is to other humans or to keep these particular mutations safe/especially secure due to how dangerous or rare they are
but to capture them in such good condition?
Maybe like the last of us fungus
How the longer it’s infecting it’s host the more mutated it can get
Send pics
file size is too big to post unless i shrink
soft bed)
it is, same for the first pic, you can see the head split when zooming in
Peanut PTSD
And also what u mean def not human
they are humans, well former humans
DNA wise they could be still related
human experimentation?
certainly "curing" will outright murder
Well hats the thing they would of had to of experimented
On whatever this is
Weather animal or human test subjects the warden seems already invested
Whoever maintains the complex is already alright with sending prisoners down into the complex against their will to fight horrific, nightmarish monsters. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if they just preformed human experimentation.
^
tru
Oooooo new enemy type
mind you, it could just be a captured infected, or an isolated person who later turned in its containemnt
That would be so cool
can someone zoom in on the blue door to see what the text says
That dad gut
