So it's a big ol fuck up in some ways?
Early bugs that need ironing out
Well here's hoping they're able to sort things out quickly
Ye, it is very new after all
Actually I kinda hope the hype dies, scalpers are stuck with cards and maybe people can get em
Same
These cards will age well, I understand waving em off now; but there's greatness once things mature
yeah
I'm honestly pretty pretty disappointed with AMD once again, the stock numbers we're nearly as bad as Ampere despite RDNA2 being Margin machines, and their encoder still sucks royally, as far as i know that's more of a firmware tie in than driver, so I don't imagine that'll improve very much over time. I was gonna buy RDNA2 out of spite but at this point if I can't get either right now then I may very well just get a 3080ti when it comes out.
Ps5, Xbox Series X & S, Zen 3, RDNA 2. When you think about even if great yields that's stretched pretty thin
Then again who knows, maybe for whatever reason AIBs have more cards
I did think of this but I'm fairly certain the consoles have been getting produced for months already
as far as Aib's go, AMD won't say when they launch so i'll just say what the leaked date is, it's the 25th, their stock will be better overall but will sell out instantly too
The consoles only launched with like a couple million units worldwide, for a next gen console release that isn't far from paper launch if you ask me, considering tens of millions of these units are in high demand right now
idk if AMD is just broke or what lol
Nvidia launched in September, and it's a right pain in the ass to even find a card in stock. AMD would just need to do better than that, though it doesn't look good just based on today alone
if they had made even just a couple hundred thousand units it would've been a massive win for amd
but their numbers were borderline Ampere levels of atrocious
We heard a while ago, granted it was a rumor that there would be loads more Ampere cards this month; but alas
I understand people are upset about stock issues(I am too) but that being the main complaint over why you're not choosing the product sounds pretty weak reasoning. If anything, staying in stock would only say the product isn't desired, given the demand is higher than ever.
If Ampere didn't set this record demand and there were plenty of Ampere cards to go around, then it would be the same for AMD. It is what it is
Could even go back further and attribute some of the demand to the 20 series kind of being undesirable to a certain extent, I can't be 100% certain but most people who have pascal cards kept them over "upgrading" to Turing.
I probably should have clarified better, the stock issues on both ends has ticked me off some but what disappoints me is what AMD's cards have to offer, so far we have no super sampling and i have doubts as to if it'll even be good (you'd think they'd show off an engineering benchmark of sorts), and I say this because just like they didn't show off their raytracing performance was because it is pretty bad, only a little better than Turing from what I've seen, given it is AMD's first gen raytracing and how only 5 or 6 games support it, it is forgiveable but keep in mind these will be the cards AMD offers for the next 2 years, on top of that it's the same architecture that will be used in both consoles for god knows how long. And of course their encoder among other productivity related performance, But that's just my take on it.
Regardless I expected both launches to sell out but not to both be paper launches
I think it's too early to say it's a paper launch, not everything has launched yet. Just the reference models. Course I admit I'm not confident that the AIB launch will be too much better
well i just hope the rug gets pulled out from under us and the aibs magically have tons of cards available
I was able to get a card into cart on the AMD website just to see if I could
Don't know if I would have been able to snag it though cause I'm really not interested in buying one now
Apple stare does something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-44Nh_QkrQ
i gotta say, i disagree fully with the statement about AMDs poor ray tracing being forgivable because its their first attempt at it.
simply put, my reasoning is that if it was any other manufacturer in any other industry, it wouldnt be forgivable to be missing features when you are asking for a similar price.
i mean, hell, look at the epic games store, people go on about how steam had years to develop its features, but epic knew before they had even released their store what would be expected of them, and that they would be constantly compared to them
while the 6800xt and the 3080 might go blow for blow in regular rasterization, theyve justified their missing or inferior features as being worth 50 bucks
That's fair, though I will say that their first try is still better than Nvidia's first try. At least from what I can tell, and that's kinda better than I expected anyway
probably is, but they also came to the party a few years later than nvidia
i think its probably a reasonable expectation to be better when youve had more time and an idea of what is going to be expected from your product
imagine if theyd released with RTX performance that was worse than the 2000 series
raytracing was barely worth it on anything other than a 2080ti, and even a 2080ti was questionable
They've priced the cards the way they did cause they can, and what I mean by that is seeing as it's pretty difficult to get an Ampere card they're using that to their advantage. Otherwise it should be like 499, 599 respectively I'd say
its not particularly easy to get a 6800 xt either
Oh I know, but that doesn't matter as long as they get the money ultimately
true
People will buy it regardless because the demand is just that immense
bit of a scummy move imo
That's corporatism
first time in years theyve had any card that could compare to nvidias high end cards
and they are milking the availability for whatever its worth
though i suppose nothing can beat MSI when it comes to milking availability
cant wait to see them scalping their own 6800s
They won't make that same mistake again, unless they're braindead
honestly, at this point i feel like they are
their excuses were so dumb
just typical corporate mumbo jumbo
without actually taking any responsibility
Well anyway, there might be more availability from AIBs next week. I know
Asus was talking about poor availability
they didnt even acknowledge that they were being sold for well over MSRP, aside from a little foot note about refunding the difference
I think they got the short end of the stick though
hard to tell with asus
at least over here, we get a lot of stock
but they are also stupidly popular
my local shop had more asus 3080s than any other card, and they were still the first to sell out
Everyone else got the silicon, like Sapphire. I could see AMD shorting Asus since they've been pretty shitty with their products
They did well with that compared to others?
AMD pulled a bait and switch with their bios last minute
I know it was kind of a shit show in general because of the sudden Bios update and memory spec change
asus fucked up the mounting pressure, so thermals got a bit dicey with the higher power limit on the new bios
They fucked up mounting pressure more than once?
coz they used the AMD spec
every single other manufacturer picked up on it
and used higher pressure from the get go
so it wasnt an issue for anyone else
I shouldn't be surprised actually that's the kind of quality control I would expect from them at this point
compare that to the 3080
where they picked up on the capacitor issues during testing
ive never had any issues with ASUS products, but man
i dont get how they dropped the ball on the 5600 that badly
You think it's just they have teams that handle specific product lines
And the guys that handle radeon cards are dumb
i considered that
like
literally 5 seconds ago
and i suppose its possible
but considering how little time a lot of AIBs get with the cards before launch
They're hiring the wrong people if they messing up that much
it would leave them with at least a year of thumb twiddling
plus, id imagine that the people designing their cards have at least built a few cards
mounting pressure wouldnt be a new concept for them
Hey, I was advised to ask in here about whether or not my computer can handle GTFO, is this the correct chat area to ask in?
Yeah you can ask, you can also look at #system-specs
If that's hard to understand though you can just ask
minimum specs are fairly low, but it can be a bit of a hefty game at times
lots of shadows, lots of particles
i would probably even take the recommended specs with a grain of salt
probably fine most of the time, but sometimes the game likes to drop frames for next to no reason
I think the only issue I had is a lower ram than recommended
Only 8GB
Which isn't idea l
ideal
Most devs probably over estimate on the RAM I think
But I probably wouldn't be playing at max
I heard the game recently got a performance update yeah?
Yeah they updated the engine to the latest revision
And polished it a bit, I noticed a good 10% increase
Actually probably more like 15%
it was a decent bump, good work devs
I decided NOT to go Radeon and instead go RTX 3070
There is a bug in this update. The friend's room can't be entered. It doesn't show that the room is in the lobby
What changed your mind?
I re verified the integrity of the game and fixed it. It should be my system problem
The monster loses its AI when it is very far away, but it will attack people passing by
Maybe the lack of stock on launch. I'm pretty sure the AIBs got the bulk of the silicon though, we're gonna see a lot more in the coming weeks
That's one THICC card
going for price Value/benefits
I dunno about price/performance, but benefits are there sure
that me rephrase it
because a lot of stuff I do does benefit more from Nvidia
and I do stream
Even though we have 3070s in the stores I can't buy them sad face
Sapphire pulse looks solid
For whatever reason this image is upside down
Usual big heatsink past the pcb with flowthrough design
Sapphire is known to make good Radeon cards
I would expect the pulse to be at MSRP or at most 10 or 20 more
But anyway as much as I'd like a new graphics card, I think I'm settling for a high refresh 1080p monitor
Manager said no new rtx and radeon cards till next year rip
Supplies are too lowwwwwww
but at the same time I know he bullshits so I'm guessing like 2 Radeon cards and 5 3070s in December
Need help making difficult decision rhgmrhunrhth
I currently own a Acer N50-600, specs are basically just GTX 1050 Ti, i5-8400 500w power supply, 24 gigs of ram and like 1tb of HDD space.
Can't decide wether I want a new Case (current is stock), or a new motherboard with a new processor (i7-10700/k). Plz help me make epic gamer choice...
Budget is relatively limited, like 400-500 dollrs
I'd first get an SSD for your OS at least. 250GB so it doesn't slowdown once nearly full.(or at least so you have the option of not having it nearly max filled)
You could go for a 3600 and 1660 Super
Gotta get 16GB of DDR4-3200MHz tho
ANd new mobo
Or a 3300X, new mobo, 1660 Super, DDR4-3200MHz
Could manage that
does the 3300X even exist besides the first couple batches?
16GB DDR4-3200MHz.... Stares at my Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200MHz
Then uhhh
Guess you just get a 3600 for less than 200$, B550 board, and a 1660 Super ig
Oh I just noticed you suggested that Sapphire took some ideas from Nvidia, well no no no Sapphire has made pass through coolers before, this is their Vega 56 Pulse
Ah, I see
Mayo over here learning new things everyday
Hmph
Hey its fine to be learning things when your still so young life's a learning experience!
Bleh
I forgot 6800 is 16gb
Yes
Probably the only advantage over NVIDIA, but they're gonna be releasing GPUs with twice the amount of VRAM so lol
Won't be cheap ofc
at least people can play Siege ultra texture pack settings
Indeed
At least I can. Probably
Just gotta get the GPU π Ain't got a job for it lole
fuck yeah sapphire appreciation club
saphire card looks thic indeed
Ludvig are you gonna get a radeon card
Rtx 3080 les go
3090 letβs go
GT 660 lets go
not thicc enough
The sag will be impeccable
Also XFX needs to take notes, this is what a "Thicc" card should look like
Does look nice
@abstract kite haha, looks neat aye, waiting for my EVGA 3090 to arrive!
Any day now
Haha, I use whatβs fastest π€·π»ββοΈ
Not even close with the rtx thou
The 6800 was impressive, but Iβll need the rtx for dev stuff π
I might get a 6900xt down the line as well so I can compare them thou
Wait, what cards are you referring to locking horns with the 3090?
Iβd say rtx, especially with dlss 2.0 has the potential to be one of those new new big leaps,
So Iβm curious to see how it develops going forward π
Ah yeah the 6900xt looks neat!
But choosing 3080 vs 6800xt id still choose the 3080 due to rtx
But I like AMD being up there picking a fight
Next generation of Gpus from them will be veery interesting
Hopefully they have fixed their drivers by then as well π
I haven't had issues but I'm still on Polaris
Right?! Haha. It's alright. I've got about 60 years before I die hopefully.
Until you get a strike for copyright music
or lol
Kinda makes me think you're a music composer lol
I'm gonna die in Black Friday
βΊοΈ It indeed is satisfying
Is power to GPU plugged in, and display cable plugged in GPU instead of motherboard?
Yes
I put in the old and still no signal
Nvm got one now
Do i need to install drivers or something like that
Got even wierder getting bios screen and then it vanishes
Ok
Atm it seems to give me a screen, i go into bios and no signal
Pressed f10 enter and it reacted so it works
I feel so stupid right now maybe
It could be that my monito has a display out
Not in
I guess
My DP is same at both ends, but it seems to work one way only
Would be impossible for you because it worked before and I don't think you unplugged the display cord from monitor
Would your monitor happen to be a TV? Does it have modes for other cable inputs?
nvm you see bios for a bit
ok following for some reason it preffered dp and since i had used dvi before it was set to dvi
rtx3070 doesnt have any dvi output so I switched
additionally for some reason this screen was selected as main and my actually main was only showing black screen
and yeah the screen didnt change the input automaticly
yeah nvidia has a deeply rooted priority you can't change for cable types
VGA, DVI, HDMI, then DP
basically from oldest to newest
whichever it finds first, it will default in that order
but once booted into windows you should be able to set your main monitor whatever. It's just that BIOS will still follow the old order
Yeah that what got me confused thanks for the insight tho
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZdAediAqAM&ab_channel=Falcodrin Just discovered this, super cool
it's a livestream going right now that goes through a couple different sites that sell the ryzen 5000 cpus to check for stock constantly
Oh my god
I just realized that the Radeon logos on the fans of the new 6000 gpus while spinning looks like a swastika
Hmm reminds me of the deep silver logo
volkswagen logo ptsd
sharp eye voxel
You guys think that The gen 4 threadripper series will use same socket as 3rd or 1st and 2nd?
considering Zen 3 is AM4 still I imagine the same compatibility will carry over to Zen 3 Threadrippers too, likely 3rd gen socket, but who knows
I don't see why they wouldn't continue using the same socket and chipset for the next gen threadrippers
They kept X399 and that socket for the first two so I figure they would continue that pace
A new socket would be because of DDR5, that's pretty much 100% regardless of platform though
DDR5? Well I would expect it to be quite a bit more expensive initially
Covid only affected pricing because demand increased on most things
Though shipments are delayed even still
The logistics are all over the place
We're starting to see insane pricing on the level of 2017s mining craze
Specifically with graphics cards, everyone and their mother wants an upgrade or to build a new system
Did you see the new XFX card?
It's pretty big
I mean it's their Thicc III but longer I guess, probably thiccer too π
Yeah
Don't know how I feel about the MERC graffiti style logo on the backplate
But I guess you don't see it much at all when if you have it in there
Specifically with graphics cards, everyone and their mother wants an upgrade or to build a new system
i still kick myself for not going Ti
regular 1080 starting to run out of steam
Running out of steam at what though?
gaming
though to be honest I don't really use my pc for gaming anymore
β¬1500 youtube machine
well that and modeling
Well that's a bit vague now, cause everyone has different standards for what they're willing to compromise for as far as playing games. Like I guess you might mean in the latest titles you aren't seeing performance you would like?
lastest triple A game i've played is 2017 lmao
5760x1080 really gets the frames down though
3x1
but then again, I mostly play Assetto Corsa. I can get 300fps+ easily on vanilla
modded can dip into low 40s
and having a beefy GPU helps when working on large scenes as well
Do you think guys I can use a window cleaner to clean contacts on my ram?
I've never heard of a need to clean contacts on RAM before
idk its wierd
I bought a new kit and both light up rgb
but one is completly invisible in the system
Memtest bios windows all invisible
use just that one stick in all slots
You might need to either reseat the RAM or it's not in the right slots
if it doesnt show up at all in any of the slots
and is correctly seated
dead stick
Typically it would be the second and fourth slots on the motherboard
1/3 or 2/4
I googled and they suggested to clean the contacts but with some proper alcohol
it is of course else it should see it anyway
Yeah I've never heard of doing that before
I will try to clean it a littlebit without any cleaner just by rubbing on the contacts
with some cloth obviously
as i said try the stick in all slots
I hoped there would be Something else i could do since the light is on
Need to contact support etc ...
Doesnt boots into bios when its plugged into A1
And only turns off when i turn off the power
Try B2
Tried this before same it was there alone
Nvm tried on a2
Could this be a power draw issue?
Recently installed 3070
I was gonna say, that 3070 is a weird contrast with the stock cooler, let alone the RGB ram
I just means aesthetically
Well nvm
The cooler is a weird contrast with those two things
Jup
Does not gets out of boot with this ram i guess, i will just have to call support
Feels like the Motherboard freezes not the os π
No idea on time
But the only info I know for sure is the 3 AIBs to look for are Sapphire, Powercolor and XFX
They're gonna have the most silicon
Allegedly there's 1000 Red Devils, which I guess isn't a lot on paper. But it's probably nearly 10x that of whatever Asus have
Well the reason I think that is cause I saw picture with a number out of 1000 on the backplate of the card
Insinuating that the first 1000 are numbered
It might technically be more than that
I think it really is some kind of special edition
You might remember there was a limited edition 5700XT Red Devil that came with a mouse pad
This one comes with a custom key cap or something? At least that's all the twitter thread showed
Are you aching for an upgrade?
What were you using again?
2080 ti kappa
Yes
I found out the the extra CUs that the Xbox is getting is for Xcloud stuff
So it isn't actually being utilized for raw performance
the joke is XBOX has 20% faster hardware spec than PS5
While, worse graphic quality and worse FPS
Truly an upset victory
I'm thinking about either getting a new pc or upgrading, my case is massive and supa loud, and have a 1070 push the limit π³ , do u think its a good idea to get a new case and gpu? Is there anything I need to check like cpu motherboard?
hey folks you mind suggesting what ram I should get?
@white belfry what processor you have ? If you upgrade to a better GPU, will not your CPU be bottleneck?
@reef wedge maybe I can help you ?
I got 5600x and a faulty ram kit I want to replace atm i have the Trident Z 3200 GHz 16CL RGB
Just RMA the kit for the same one
Sometimes you get a lemon, and it is what it is
Though I guess if you wanted to go the way of getting your money back, then look for a 3600 CL16 kit
That will give you the most optimal performance for the money
Just ordered this new monitor https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824737012?Item=N82E16824737012
First time for 144hz
You get the smoothness on Desktop
And I would think with certain esports games
Actually most esports games
Don't forget to set monitor to 144hz so you don't waste a year thinking you're on 144hz
@vapid crypt
Oh yes of course I won't forget that
but the most important thing of all, is to make sure that everyone knows that you could never go back to 60hz π
Well I've been on 75hz technically
ik, i just love the joke
spend 2 years on 60hz while telling everyone that you could never go back to 60hz
FOV?
FOV isn't usually too taxing on frames, but a difference might be more noticeable with higher settings
yeah i'm aware, I was just confused if that was a typo
@reef wedge if you have 2 ram kits and one is faulty then you have to buy the same model of ram kit to guarantee its gonna work perfectly
@restive garnet 60% on then 30%off
The story is about how people buy 4k monitors 144hz and never reach stable 144FPS.
For example in COD Warzon even 2080S at medium/high don't give you 144 stable FPS
In open world games you cannot expect high setting's even with a Monster GPU ( unfortunately, with so much 3000 GPU series ( power ) they're still unable to give us even 120 at high ultra settings in most of the games )
So question is, why would you buy 144,. 4K if you're gonna play 60hz ?
COD MW2019 is unoptimized as I've heard
It's not about no on from there, please don't take it personal, just general question
The question should be
Why does 4K 144hz exist?
Why did it even exist a few years back?
How did people even consider anything more than 4K60Hz
@fleet canopy exactly !
It's just marketing to make people spend much more money for just 4K word.
lol
Big ol 3840x2160p lol
Wonder how we had 4K 144hz on whatever panel but not 1440p 240Hz earlier on
I'd understand if it's more harder to have a higher refresh rate than a higher resolution, so eh
lol
I mean, now with 3090, it's kinda possible?
Probably 100Hz, sure I think
Could just be underestimated, I don't really know how powerful it is on 4K
@fleet canopy try to find some benchmarks on YouTube about that 3090. It don't give you 144 on 4k, I'd say not even 120...
And we're not talking about competitive games
On these games you don't need to see every butterfly or stone...
We're talking about really smooth GamePlay on openworld games ...
finally 8)
damn
not even SLI strix 3090s? im disappointed in you lud
@idle musk nah I only have one kit and the half of it is faulty π so basicly one out of two
@dense wasp why are you such a show off
Hey santa, I would like ampere card too
@thorn lava pls elaborate on what a DGX is
So if I have a laptop with a screen that uses gsync at 144hz and get another monitor that uses amd freesync with 75hz will there be any issues upon connecting them
And it doesn't say gsync compatible
gsync != freesync
It would depend. Generally, if you want to use synch software, it'll be bound to the lowest common denominator. But I don't know the intricacies
Anyone got a clue why the cheapest 6800XT's have "RDNA 2 Lite" in the listing name? Never heard about such a difference before
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Sounds stupid since the entire RX 6000 is RDNA 2
Probably scam idk
Unless it's from official whateverthey'recalled
^
Anyone have recommendations for a cheap but realizable Sfx psu that's at least 750w ?
Define Cheap here
Aww perfect, it's only the worst time to buy pc components because everyone and their mother wants a computer now
Uh I mean 250 you could probably find something
I found a 700w one
I guess that's not cutting it huh
Oh wait
No that's out of stock
The case I wanna get just says "SFX-L"
I.m not getting it yet so of iits out of stock I have time to wait
I'm*
Uh CA right?
What?
Oh sorry that was a vague question, uh I was asking cause you gave a 200 - 250 I actually didn't initially ask if that was in American or Canadian
American
I found a silverstone unit that's 219 and it's 800w
I have a CX750M rn and I assumed it was too big. Also that should work
Oh yeah I just heard of that, seems like it might be making the form factor more popular
Yeah
I'd get a corsair sf one but one is pretty pricey and another is 600w and I don't trust a 600w psu for what I wanna build
Oh hang you you haven't bought that one yet have you?
Yeah
Okay well I think this one might be better https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-Technology-Silverstone-SX700-PT-Certification/dp/B07Y49P3Y4
It's 100w less, but I checked out the tier list I usually refer to
And the one I posted earlier was at B tier, which is fine; but for that one it's ranked in A tier
Yeah I understand, but realistically they always over recommend
For context this is the tier list I refer to https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psucultists-psu-tier-list/
I guess. I just don't wanna take the chance of frying the system cuz I have a minimum wage job and can't afford that π
Okay
The models coded green are SFF units
Do you think the 50 watt difference will matter?
There are power supply calculators
Yeah but I wanna get some of the new parts that cam out and I don't think a lot of them have those...
Yeah the Newegg one has them
I just did one real quick with a 3080 and a 5900x, it comes out to 509 watts with just the core components
Yeah but theres a lot of other things like ther peripherals and fans and aio and stuff...
Yeah I understand that, that's what the overhead is apart of
and the 5900 is gonna be to expensive but i'll try it
Well I just used those as an example, and I knew the 3080 recommended 750w
Like that recommendation is taking into account the entire system as well
And ITX boards use less power apparently
I think because it's ITX you basically get the 50w for free
?
At least going by this calculator, there's a 40 watt difference between ATX and ITX
I'm probably gonna use an atx but that's interesting
Oh you changed your mind on the mini itx build?
I see
It can fit an ATX board, but because of its size it requires a SFF power supply
Indeed
That's interesting
Very
2KW power supply
Do you know if asus has any white itx boards?
Not from where I'm looking here
AMD 4850 GPU has 1T Flops
while 4850 released at 2008
Xbox one has 1.3 T Flops
PS4 has 1.8 T Flops
amazing, 12 years old computing still dominates today's game world...
I mean Teraflops doesn't really mean anything for game performance
That's raw compute performance, and you can't compare it between architectures either
4850 was Terrascale, the graphics architecture used for both the Ps4 and Xbone is GCN I believe
mirrorless camera shopping time
imo, if you are getting a new psu, always aim for your parts to consume no more than about 60% of its max capacity, as thats where most power supplies reach peak from the wall efficiency, plus it also gives you decent head room for future upgrades or overclocking further down the line
i mean, technically you could probably run a high end build with a 3080 off a 600 watt, but a single spike and your psu would trip over current protections and turn off
Yeah I would be a bit concerned with something like that
ive played with the idea a little bit, heavily influenced by LTTs classic xbox HTPC
but it always circles back to it being uncomfortably close
surprisingly enough you can find a decent psu for 100 usd nowadays
i paid 160 NZD for my corsair SF600, which is about a touch over 100 USD (about 1:1.50 USD:NZD)
so definitely doable
Won't be changing that much tbf
we got it
Thanks
:>
for power supply, the larger the better
you may need increase the number of disk, memory or gpu in the future
and if you watch the prices you can do better than that. Best buy has a Corsair CX850 for 120
upgrading the Memory or RAM won't hit the GPU for much. It's when you upgrade the CPU and mostly the GPU that can require a PSU upgrade
Have a nice day sam! sorry for bothering
Hi guys. I been really thinking about new parts for my pc. Can any of you suggest a good parts for my pc? I got NZXT MANTA ITX case.
My spec:
Cpu: Intel i5-4440 @ 3.10Ghz
Gpu: Radeon HD 7900
Ram: 8ghz gddr5
If you can help me than please pm me. I don't want to spam this chat.
I will gladly help
do people really need 600+ fps in csgo
I need 1,000+ in a menu
1000 fps in gtfo loading screen
probably a few points of correction blasta, ram is measured in bytes not hertz, ie 8gb not 8ghz, and gddr5 is a type of memory used in graphics cards, while ram is typically something like ddr#
not being nitpicky, it just makes it a tad harder to recommend parts when you arent sure what you actually have
also, its in the chat name, pc build help, feel free to spam the chat
I am gonna help Blasta out
I got plenty of time since I am bed ridden for the next couple of days
ooft, you aight?
I tore my right hamstring a bit
also, id probably help, but being that i live in new zealand, its hard to track parts and prices internationally
not really. you can go to newegg and change the currency to help a bit
last time i tried helping someone for this chat, i had a half decent build that was on budget, but apparently pcpartpicker was showing a price difference
ended up being out 100 usd somewhere
cant say im 100% familiar with it, but afaik that only shows newegg listings though, doesnt it?
it does. but i find I find most of my deals from Newegg. I mean there are other sites also to look at but Newegg is usually good for the deals
sometimes even amazon
usually, yeah, ive had a few decent deals from them over the years
but for the most part their shipping ends up stinging me
last time i ordered from them i had to pay about 400 bucks in shipping and import fees
yeah shipping can bite ya. I am atleast glad I am in the States for PC parts
sadly, being a kiwi sort of sucks for pc parts
on the one hand, the demand for new parts is next to nothing here
like, it took 6 hours for our rtx 3080 preorders to sell out
compared to seconds internationally
but on the flip side, we get screwed on pricing and availability
we usually end up paying about 30-35% over MSRP for most products
and our range is usually fairly limited in the first place
like no reference nvidia cards here
well, founders edition rather
I am gonna do another build but i am gonna wait until the newness wears off and most of the issues are worked out
id say most of the issues have already been worked out
at least, in terms of hardware
from here on out, its probably almost entirely software
so at least you can download those
I may end up going with the 3080ti if it ever gets released and is available
im still not 100% sold on 10gb vram
like, i get that it has far more bandwidth than a 1080ti, but it feels weird to get less vram than a card thats like 6 years older
10 is fine if i stayed with 1080 and most 1440, but eventually more will be needed
well, im playing on an ultrawide 1440
and ive used 10 before
never used the full 11, but id wager its only a matter of time
same
2800 dollars here though
while i technically have the money lying around, i cant justify spending that much at the moment
it's 1200 here and i feel the same way
Although https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=40865 this one has decent reviews. Still hard for me to swallow right now
never heard of monoprice
My next build i plan on going OVERKILL so I may just go with the G9
which isnt surprising, considering we barely get anything outside of the major manufacturers
but that looks like its probably the same panel as the precursor to the G9
It's a smaller company, but the reviews are fairly decent
basically the exact same specs as that monitor
so id wager its probably using the same panel
my last rig was overkill when i built it, but now its starting to feel a little bit dated
like, it still performs fine
above 60 fps ultra settings on pretty much whatever i play at 3440x1440
but no raytracing, and with the monitor being a 100hz refresh, i wouldnt mind having a little bit of extra horsepower for cyberpunk
if Cyberpunk ever gets released
but it usually ends up being a bit over 2x msrp
ouch
hopefully, with new free trade deals going in, plus gaben trying to move a huge chunk of valve to new zealand, we start getting better access to hardware
like, we cant even get valve hardware here full stop
and gabens been living here for nearly a year now
this is the one I want
watching the LTT review for the G9, it looks fantastic
@restive garnet he went to New Zealand ? omg
hes been living here during covid
apparently with how things were going in the US, he decided to stay in nz for a few months, and ended up getting trapped here when we shut our borders
@restive garnet i Guess he's happy with that lol
seems like it, he certainly doesnt seem to be complaining
plus hes been publicly talking about how he wants to move most of valves on site work to nz, so they can actually do stuff in person
rather than dealing with social distancing and working from home
its ridiculous
more or less
Now i understand why alot of people
so they are usually slightly cheaper than ours
run old parts there
Like streamers from New Zealand they run on a lot older pc's usually
sounds about right
my strix 1080ti cost me 1400 bucks on sale, down from 1600
and the strix 2080ti was like 2.5k
How much does shipping cost
New 1080ti?
or u buy everything in NZ
brand new
...
i try to buy everything in nz
Ahh okay
so i dont have to fuck around to much with RMAs and that
Yeah i feel that
i prefer to be able to walk in to a store and sort it all out in 5 minutes
rather than post it off and pray that our shitty couriers dont lose or damage it
I spent 465.02$ on s/h 1080ti
I spent 375 euros on a second hand 2080ti
damn

I bought it when the new cards released
granted, when i bought my 1080ti it was like, end of 2017 i think
It may be possible if you're from US, but for outside countries it's a bit harder...
Let me check If I find any 2080ti sh
And forums, about anything going from custom swimming pool setups to custom cooled pc's or aquarium pc's
0 sh 2080ti on our market
oh my
this is first hand, but its still ridiculous that after a price drop, its still nearly 1000 more than what i paid for my 1080ti
makes someone not want to build a pc with a price like that
Kinda funny that the 3070's like a fourth of that price
@restive garnet just wait a half of year. After 3000 will fix their prices on market all will sold their 2000 series and you'll see a big change of things
That's actually hilarious
so i figured id give you a reference
In my country 3070 is around 600$ :/
Same
New one
Ig that RAM boosted the price?
the 3080 is using the full sized GA102 chip though, while iirc, the 3070 is using like 3/4
so its not just the ram
oh well I'm referring to the 2080 ti in this case. Thing's still more expensive than that 3080
oh, yeah, honestly, i dont even know
im assuming our retailers are just being shitty
trying to milk back the money for their 2080tis while they can still sell them due to low 3080 stock
seems like every second week there is a sale that drops the prices further than they already have been
Eyyy not that that's a bad thing for the consumer
saw a strix OC 2080ti for 1900 a month back
still well over priced
but not as bad
True but if only that price kept falling
if it fell to like 1400 bucks, id consider it
well, probs cheaper than that
considering that it gets rivaled by the 1400 dollar 3070
Idk chief. Just the card being over 1k doesn't sit right with me
i dont mind the card being over 1k, it is what it is there
our import fees are irritating
coz we have to pay 15% on everything we buy or import, plus general import fees which can go up to about 150 bucks
but we also pay tax to the country we buy stuff from
so we get double taxed
which is the way its always been
Gotta "encourage" trade between other countries bud
Hm.
yeah, hopefully these free trade deals scrap some of the import fees
it sucks being a nation that depends on the rest of the world for tech, and then getting double taxed on it
π
Be nice if we made our own stuff monkaS
thats where im hopeful about this valve thing
itll hopefully put us on the map, so to speak
Valve thing?
Hm.
hopefully it encourages our tech sector, and we can start producing our own products
That'd be neat
Would the prime minister really even say no considering how big Valve is
or at the minimum, give us cheaper access to products
Also, for a bit there I thought u were talking about America lol
and honestly, she might
Me merican man
she is not a great decision maker
boomer?
but that being sad, this would be to big of an opportunity to pass up
I can speak Australian, American, English, American Sign Language, great thing about being American
A bit broken english
Ain't that just British?
Awe wee cunt
depends where in britain
they get really creative around what they call people
australia its just universally cunt
That's kinda Scottish as well ig, but that's just my knowledge from a comedy show shorts "Burnistoun"
Hmm didn't expect to learn something today π
on the contrary, i think you expected to learn something today
just not that
π
U expect too much lol. I just wanted my brain to stay in its mental Lazy Boy all day
as do i, but you cant help but learn something
maybe its something weird, like that something goes well on pizza
You are a braver person than I am, or maybe more heretical? Straight up cheese & pepperoni for me
I like pineapple and hot sauce on mine, with the usual cheese and tomato sauce on it as well
Best combo lol
i dont mind pepperoni pizzas, but the few places that do them over here use really cheap pepperoni
and it just ends up tasting like cheese and salt
lol damn
Huge Yikes. Make ur own?
I live at a difference place and got like a bunch of pizza places
nah, i just get something that isnt pepperoni π
Sasuke-edge?
But there's this one shop that does it so fucking good, that it could possibly be better than any NYC pizza
Damn
scalpers will domninate the worldπ
That name sounds purty lewd
everything's price is rising like rocket with great shortage
its more of a seven deadly sins lust, rather than a raunchy lust
they also have greed, sloth, envy etc
I wonder if ppl are out there selling "4k" TV's that are just 900p
Outside of Best Buy maybe
The cheapest 4k may cost lower than 100 dollars
i prefer katsu curry
I see pineapple
Wrath & Gluttony tho
honestly, they make fantastic pizzas
I cannot in good will endorse pineapple on pizza for religious reasons
I don't like pizza
there is a burger pizza π
A what
pizza subs are pretty awesome
Ain't that just a cooked sandwich?
Subway is alright
kinda meh
I wouldn't know. Never personally had more than their cheese bread
like, they do some alright stuff
but they havent got anything on a decent burger place
hot take but I don't actually like burgers
sandwich is just wrapped salad
i mean, its essentially just two pieces of bread with filling in the middle
Isn't a salad just assorted grass?
try fruit&nut salad
i can understand just finding them meh, but theres not really anything wrong with them either
nut salad huh. So trail mix is dried salad
avocado, pineapple, cashe, chicken BBQ, lettuce, bread cubes, humms, ranch + maynoises + ketchup
- tomato + scramble eggs
can include lots of variety
not really a pineapple person, but the rest sounds decent
chipotel
i think probably the best thing ive eaten, was a korean dish served in a hot stone bowl
cant remember what was in it, aside from rice, egg, and spring vegetables
and ill never know, because the place closed down a few months after i had it
definitely looks like it
good call
Bibimbap
bibimbap
not curry, no
Japanese katsu curry
ive had katsu donburi a bit
donburi is not that popular actually...
its not especially popular here, but i quite like it all the same
which country are you from
new zealand
Isnt this a chat for talking about computers?
I forgot to buy a hard drive and It took me a fucking hour to realise I didn't order it.
F
any must buys on black friday/cyber monday?
that's a good ass deal
but already got 3

Eh, not too bad
Unless it's something that should be more cheaper
It isn't bad for an IPS as well, most 1440p 144hz IPS are about 400$
Unless us to euro conversion is fucked
Amazon was selling 970 evo plus 2tb drives at 50% off, if you need bulk ssd storage
Fair enough, my 970 pro has like 100gb left on it
So it was a great deal for me
In my experience even 4tb isn't enough
Currently using a touch over 6tb
My drives can't keep up my spending addiction for games
My internet used to be bad
bluray rips and games?
I recently was able to move the router and the internet has been so much better
pain
Just a few meters makes a world of difference
Im on ethernet
...
Not gunna make any difference
Little bit over 1.2 tb installed and that's hardly enough for all the games
My steamapps folder alone is like 4tb
then again I don't play any AAA titles because im allergic to reheated shit
On PS4 I would need around 10tb+ for all the games. Scary thinking about how big some games file size is
new cod is what, 150gb?
For now
I mean is that the release game file size
Gunna be much bigger before they are done
Because they have such stupid sizes they gotta be doing it intentionally
and what for
Nothing shows what for. I just got theories
reminds me of NieR Automata launch, 60gb game files out of which 30gb was uncompressed cutscenes

Afaik, its because they dont compress any of their files so they can get a slight performance gain
Its just ridiculous for last gen consoles with 500-1000gb hard drives
vote with your wallet
Games still run average in my experience but I stopped playing them a long time ago
People will still buy them it's cod
Its mostly just a media center for entertaining guests
dozen skins per gun, assuming 4k uncompressed, 600mb right there
I mean yeah they are but that's to be expected. People stick to the same games often on a casual level so they don't really know how bs all this stuff is.
i haven't bought any triple A since 2017
I've known people who will only play cod
it's just so stale
It's all so generic and expected somehow
I play cod warzone occasionally
And you can bet your sweet ass im gunna play cyberpunk
Which according to cdprs investor report, is really definitely releasing in december
Havent really enjoyed a farcry game since 3
I liked 2013 much more than RotTR
Oh hell yeah cyberpunk should be coming out soon
the plot in rise of the tomb raider felt cheap at best
Plot in all of the tomb raiders makes me think huh
Farcry 2 was my favorite, but the story left a lot to be desired
Yeah I played a decent bit of Farcry 2 on Xbox 360 damn good game for it's time
I didnt really have much issue with it
I just sucked at it
Definitely would have loved it on pc though
PS5
yea pretty much
Ooft
PS5 now 1499 dollars
OMW to kick apples ass
Kick apples' apples
so you have PS5 now?
Aww I loved playing Nier Replica beat it several times
I never played the OGs sadly
can anyone know where i can buy 499 dollars PS5?
sold my ps3 and never got them to work on emulator
Just kept resetting instead of getting the final final final ending and playing on hard
I dunno why i just didn't like being op
I still need to finish my Automata challenge run
Spear was op though
What 's the challenge?
very hard on keyboard + mouse
Why i see so many people use 02 as profile picture?
because I'm a masochist like that
Isn't very hard a 1 hit kill
or just same people show up frequently
yes
Welp
1hk from any basic enemy
Enjoy your pain
I don't like starting on harder difficulties because it takes a long time before you get your first save
it's ok I developed chip setup that literally breaks the game
taking glass cannon to the extreme
Does veryhard apply to the hacking minigame
Also huan you pretty much can't get a PS5
you have plenty of time to play
That's fucked
anyone here has PS5?
Time to ride the PS5 manufactring factory
