Minecraft likes it
hows this pc? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vXTsgJ
anything i should change? trying to stay around 1500
Do you have any Ryzen series CPU?
no, my current pc is an i7-7700k'
Lemme check something
i know i might have to update the bios
Yeah that's what I'm checking
yeah thats fine, i saw a video on it
just wondering about the build itself
i have a 1060 atm
Why does literally 99% of population have the same GPU/CPU I used to have?
And switch to GPU/CPU I have now
What the hell is this insanity?
Anyways
2070 probably best value with performance
i just want a non poo pc
But I am not sure what case however
And don't buy a graphics card now, we're gonna see new cards in 2 months
The Focus G seems fairly nicer than the one you picked, but the cable management can be considered ehh
what will the prices be compared to these current ones
i have around 1500 bucks to spend on a new pc
The prices should not be too much more different
Now I'd recommend checking out B550
It would help in the long term solution imo
Also for the cooler, I would say ditch it. Either spend more for a 240mm or better, or just commit to a solid air cooler
Case changed to Focus G, SSD is now Sabrent Rocket 256GB NVME M.2, HDD changed from 1TB to 2TB with no price difference :)
Not all of it. Just mean the HDD switch gives no price difference as well as the SSD
I guess for a cooler, I could recommend a Noctua NH-U14S
Um so for big air coolers, you need to consider the clearance with the case
So you can't go slapping a cooler into whatever then you find out you gotta remove a fan or the panel just doesn't fit
Well I know that
That cougar case has a clearance of 160mm
I checked, it should fit the cooler
I switched the case to Focus G
Better airflow, reviews say the cable management isn't the best but then again I have a cable management that would kind of make people cry
I dunno I would just look at something that's at a higher price tier
Hm?
Its worth it for a nicer case sometimes
Next step up would be around $100 ish
Great case for 100$
It should be $80 but that's how it goes
Eh
Still pretty good for its price at least
Anything for the motherboard or still no?
B550 Aorus Elite, B550 Gaming Plus, these are pretty good boards
Twice the price, but way better than that entry level micro board from Asrock
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HWkgGc added 3 fans, don't really know if it's too necessary
The Meshify comes with 2 or 3 I think
Oh just 2
It does benefit from filling out the front there so
So I guess just one or two if he wants to also install one top
Since those are 140mm you can only fit two at the front
So the one pre-installed could be re-purposed then
Of course
At the same time for Arctic fans, their P fans are better for static pressure
Switch it out for P140 then?
Which might not better as a chassis fan, but considering it would most likely be used as intake
P14 PWM PST
Technically the Bionix fans are the same fan with a different frame
there is good reason why minecraft is built on java. a major one is modding
Excellent, well only thing I of course advise is not to buy a graphics card yet
Of course, wait for an RTX 4060 or 4070 depending on price
What
Well no I mean its 3000 next for Nvidia
And honestly the driver thing isn't off base, but in a lot of cases its not much worse than Nvidia driver problems. AMD is just slower at fixing problems
So from what we know. Nvidia cards have an alleged release date of September 17
AMD's is still unknown but certainly after, some time in October maybe early November
Should also release Zen 3 simultaneously
I don't think spellcheck would have helped me in a million years lol
I always spell it "simanteously" so it's nowhere near close
does anybody play fortnite here if so can you tell if it sttuters or lags cause when i play sometimes the gpu usage goes down to the 20s i have a ryzen 5 3600 running on 3.9 ghz and rtx 2060 super.
did you deinstall the gpu driver in a clean way and reinstalled it?
I don't play the game but can already tell that most people who will play this game does not have this issue. Would be pretty devastating for a big company like Epic 🙂
yup i did a clean installation but it didnt helped
can you have taskmanager open on a second screen and check the gpu and cpu usage?
also what do you run in the background. Any antivirus or other programs?
tried closing discord when playing?
Discord and some other application use something called "Hardware Acceleration". This will use your GPU for some tasks but can cause problems in some instances when you have other 3d applications open
also when your pc freezes, it probably is normal that your gpu then shows 20% usage because it has nothing to do. But I am a bit confused, during a freeze there should not be anything that moves or updates, so how you know it's 20% ?
Can someone help me with something. it isn't exactly pc build related but it's something that's been bugging me for a while
just post your question
My c drive says it has been filled to near capacity but I only have like big games on it and all 3 of them are less than 30 gbs so I'm confused as to how my memory is so full. Anything else I have installed are a few smaller games all less than 1 gb and in some cases a few kbs
windows and applications may create files themselves that can fill your drive.
if you want to find out where big files are hidden you can give this little tool a try (I love it and does the job very well getting an overview of your drive): https://windirstat.net/
windows has a hidden folder called "Appdata" And I do suspect that there is a lot of (big) files in there
if you need assistance getting the tool running; let me know
Yeah appdata is taking like 50 gb
There's some folder called packages
there's something called <files>
what is that
It's taking 23 gb
nvm apparently if I delete it something bad happens
on to the next
"packages" may be stuff from microsoft stores (Store Apps).
I do not recommend to blindly remove stuff but if you know that certain files are not needed you can remove them
<files> may be all files together, dunno
Ah yes, must delete system32 for more space
you can also run disk cleanup which will find unused files and windows update temp files that can be safely removed
Hey guys Im on my phone, my computer just went black screen
no problem. do the disk cleanup tho it surely gets rid of temp files
Yeah just used it
and with windirstats you can dig a bit deeper and find out where there are big files
used to recommend windirstats too, great tool. But recently ran into a more modern UI free variant - TreeSize. It works faster and a bit more easier to read. Biggest difference you can only select one drive at a time.
really like how you can see sizes at a glance. No need to look back and forth
awesome! I check them both out. yea windirstats is quite old and so is the UI
i really like windirstat tbh, that volume map is cool as hell.
I'm surprised people prefer navigating via the map. TreeSize can make one too, along with some tinkering options. Haven't explored them much though
The big drive for my switch was its speed. windirstat took over 2.5minutes to index all my drives before I could use it.
TreeSize took just a few seconds and thats for an HDD.
i love the blocky view in windirstat, here's mine
the highlighted part is my steam directory
yeah i love how the sections that are a big square are directories, rather than all the files in random order
really lets you see the relative size of things
and when it comes tome to clear out space for a new game or something you can focus on the largest offenders first
it is quite literally, information at a glance.
the times I use it, I'm actually looking for the unnecessary semi-small fry. Like installers, redist packages, caches, leftover files from an uninstall or folder full of 5-40MB files that amount to a few gigs and aren't relevant to keep anymore.
the big ones are kind of known already. I know which of my games take up more than 30GB(too many these days)
the first run like that might be slow, but the subsequent checks you kind of learn your system well and know what to expect. Being quick and snappy about it
hey guys my friend wants a good laptop for gaming/work and he was looking into this one https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/asus-rog-strix-g15-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-10300h-512gb-ssd-8gb-ram-geforce-gtx-1650-ti/14583635
keep in mmind thats in CDN
is that good or would you suggest something better
it does seem value oriented which is ok since i don't think the price is a rip-off, but im not sure if its a good deal or not compared to similar laptops. it should play games at medium/high, not ultra
taking it to the office though.... idk its pretty gamerized
compared to the other laptops in the G15 line that one is the least powerful they offer
i havent looked at the price, and likely wont due to my unfamiliarity with laptop prices across regions
but in terms of specs, itll only really handle light gaming at best
8gb of ram is pretty much the bare minimum at the moment, and id be tempted to get a slightly higher end gpu as well
a 1650 to run a 144hz display just seems wrong to me
plus only a 512gb ssd for storage means you would have to be a bit more sparing about what games you have installed, which is really a preference thing on a laptop i suppose
the part that sucks is its a big jump in price on that Asus G15 line to get a better graphics card
and then its only a 1660ti
we had a sale on them a few days ago, think they might be trying to clear stock at the moment
that exact laptop was 100 off, the next model up was 300 off
so it wasnt a particularly bad price on the upgraded model, at least by asus rog standards
also, again on a personal note, at a 15.6 inch display, its sort of a middle ground size, and i would be tempted by something around the 17 inch+ area
really depends on how much you value screen real estate and decently sized keyboards vs portability
im a bigger guy, (6'4, 110kg), so the extra size and weight doesnt bother me if i have to carry it around all day
so this one is better except for some reason a smaller hard drive https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SG1DY8T
and its not much more
(Cries in 5'6")
another similar one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YM938TP/
im not a fan of HP personally, but that first one does look like a decent buy, particularly if the storage and ram is upgradable
and im not a fan of acer either, but that second one looks like a really good buy
tough thing with laptop is its all so variable, just because the specs look better on paper it could still be a bear to use
definitely true, especially when thermals are accounted for
Surprising there's no HDD
not really
But then again I don't think most people would use laptops as the main thing for gaming
it makes sense from an engineering standpoint
an m.2 is a hell of a lot smaller than a 2.5 inch ssd
if you can only get one computer and it needs to be a laptop it will be for gaming
I'm not saying that, I'm saying that generally people would have a PC at home that they would use for gaming, and the laptop would just be travel gaming so it wouldn't be too strange for it to be 500GB
the room saved could fit an extra fan, or a full length graphics card, or just a little bit of extra space between parts to help alleviate thermal throttling
I love bad marketing
personally, im always a fan of having cheaper bulk storage, so id rather have like a 256 gb m.2 and a 1tb 2.5 inch
my desktop legitimately has over 5tb of games installed
i understand exactly 1/4 of it
comparison of upper limits
their graphs are about as vague as physically possible
it doesnt state anywhere on the slide that it does
does it say word for word that it helps GPUs, graphics cards, video cards or otherwise?
There's "Nearly 3x more throughput"
Whatever that means
"Up to 4x Better Throughput in busy environments"
Which just means to me they kind of lied about the nearly 3x part
neither of those are referring to, or mention GPUs
"KILLER AX1650"
triggered
AX is the networking standard
Goddamned naming
killer does make nics
or
they did
i dont really know what they do these days
usually they make on board or on chipset networking tho
last i heard, they sort of hit some financial difficulties and got bought by intel
iirc, the killer NIC improved FPS in low end systems by reducing the workload on the rest of the system by independently handling networking, but was virtually pointless on high end systems
it is a laptop NIC, here is what their amazon page says "PLEASE READ: Module is 22x30mm and should only be used in Laptops with an M.2 connector and a standard Key A or E socket. It WILL NOT work in the M.2 slot in a Desktop"
anyone know why a desktop m.2 slot won't work?
honestly, i dont know
im assuming its some sort of chipset/bios level support for it in laptops
because its virtually pointless in desktops
later on on the amazon page: "Question: Is it compitable with Dell G5 5090 Desktop?
Answer: Yes, the Killer AX1650 should work as a direct replacement..."
answerd by the seller
ive got nothing
im not particularly familiar with NICs outside of full sized 10 gig desktop cards
the issue with wireless cards are always that they use the theoretical throughput that is achieved with whatever 802.11 standard that is used. In real environment it will never reach it. THe latency difference is a bit odd. Also if people purchase this card, it's kind of useless unless your router also supports the same standard (802.11ax which is very new)
So yesterday i got the update for windows 10 version 2004 i downloaded and installed and shutdown the pc after so today after booting up i saw that it was a bit choppy compared to other days and then performance while gaming deterioted too and then the pc completely froze and was froze for like 20 25 mins i restarted it after it unfroze just want to know did anyone face these issuses and why did this happened
it is still pretty choppy
and lagging
Is it possible to uninstall update 2004?
No, but I once had a problem where uninstalling the latest Windows 10 update fixed it
Made the PC literally near impossible to use

@snow rain @brisk badger need your assistance bro
idk, build 2004 runs fine on all my machines but it surely can make problems with others. Do you have enough disk space`?
yup
opened taskmanager already and checked if there is a process consuming much cpu?
i did
is it a harddrive you are using? a restart is always nice
do you have some anti virus installed? it's a bit difficult to track problems like this down
i might just try uninstalling the update
do you have some anti virus installed? it's a bit difficult to track problems like this down
@brisk badger yup max security
Well that's not something I've heard of before
max secure antivirus
hmm maybe try temporary disable it
gotta restart just uninstalled the update
uninstalling worked
listen up man so it all started yesterday got off playing windows update came version 2004 so i installed it and shut down the pc but today morning after turning on the pc i felt that the pc was very choppy and laggy got into a game and saw dips down to 30s and i uninstalled the update but that didnt worked either idk man do u have any idea of what have happened cant play any games help i thought uninstalling worked but when playing games its just laggy as hell help
and one more thing the highlight of the icons in the taskbar gets stuck on the last icon the mouse cursor was
fuck yeah, windows
when i have these weird issues 50% of the time i spend hours googling cause i have no idea whats wrong and eventually find some random asnwer that works, and the other 50% of the time i reinstall windows
well i tried both
What are your full specs anyway?
PS5 will have DLSS it seems
People have been talking about AMD has nothing unless they have a response to DLSS that Nvidia uses, looks like they will
Well for the time being not yet
Well, the idea behind it is completely possible to be used on amd gpu’s
I don't know if it will be the exact same method of course, but it they have an equivalent its all that matters
Same video mentions running Death Stranding at 8k 50fps with DLSS on a 2080 ti
So that's pretty awesome
Anybody familiar with adding heat sinks to M.2 ssds?
probs a little bit late, but i'm fairly familiar
So.... with a price limit of $1.5k CDN (but preferably close to $1k CDN) what is the best deal on a laptop
The ones from yesterday were good, but in American
Little pricey
My friend wants a laptop he could work/game on but still bring around with him (eg to school)
And I told him you guys know best

@snow rain if you're up for learning, switch to linux. I'm playing gtfo through proton right now
nah man i bought this pc for gaming

@snow rain now choppiness while using the pc is low but every game is laggy as hell i am getting 30 fps on loading screens and consistent dips to the 30s
nah man i bought this pc for gaming
@snow rain yet it's not functioning in the purpose you bought it for 😂 W10 updates usually causes problems. It's probably better to wait a couple weeks after it comes up before installing it
Did deleting latest update not help?
Because it definitely sounds like a fucky windows 10 update
I am confused why he would quote himself and then ping himself
thank you hackers 😢
from a security perspective, that would be a nightmare but if people know what they do; sure
yes and no. the inherent problem is because of microsoft and being closed source as well as many protocols being made with no security in mind
it kinda is. Every application that is not open source is prone to being compromised by hackers
open source vulnerabilities exist but are a fraction
it sounds like an excuse for windows. they make money (compared to linux distros) which also has to be invested in security
and yea i agree most exploits exist for windows because it has the biggest market share. but that alone is not the problem. closed source immensely helps hackers finding exploits
you make it easier for the hackers if no one can audit and fix your code 😉
linux has much other issues
different os, different package manager, different compilation etc
well if you find me any company like a bank or something that is prone to being hacked and that uses windows then I give you 5usd for every company :p
some exploits do not require the user to do something stupid
no one that works with security-related uses windows, the exploits that being found are just too sewere
even in windows only environments in my job I have install linux dns servers or web servers due to the security
well I can also say not everything in linux is opensource^^
no one said that. security comes with you having control over the system and knowing what it does
not just installing an OS
you still less likely to be victim if you use linux
https://www.cvedetails.com/top-50-vendor-cvssscore-distribution.php
Here is a nice chart showing various vendors and their vulnerability scoring. Interesting to see that ms had 33 percent of all found exploits weighted with the score 9 or more. 9 is very high / critical.
Also this includes ms applications such as office which depending on we view the discussion should be excluded. did not found such a chart so far
adobe is funny. surely 90% or more of their issues are related to flash lol
not really all m$ fault
@abstract kite actually it is. Over the last 30 years, they've created protocols without security in mind or they deviate from industry standards with their own version of something.
Then there's also the fact that their code is a gargantuan nightmare that no one is capable of revising. A large chunk of the functionality in windows was from acquisitions of other companies and their code was adapted to interface with windows, but not integrate with it
well if you find me any company like a bank or something that is prone to being hacked and that uses windows.
@brisk badger i used to work in a bank and I'm in the financial industry now. I can tell you for a fact that a lot of shit is prone to be hacked. Most ATMs that you use are running on a dedicated version of windows XP. JPM still has legacy mainframes from the 1980s running COBOL. My friend who's a consultant was doing an IT audit of a bank in the Southern US. They still had IBM 386 compatibles interfaced as parts of their daily operations
isn't the fact that they use old systems wich are less likely to be still known or used by most people a strenght in some kind? I remember there is a formula where Risk = Threat * Probability * Impact what they might do here is simply reduce the Probability part.
storage time
- an m.2 and a 2.5 ssd
dear god i have too much unused storage
I really need to pull a doc and make a nas
meanwhile I'm pulling a d0c 2.0 and going to run my own NAS, leaving a synology NAS unused
i actually have a Drobo NAS available if you want, pretty sure it still works, takes like 4 or 5 HDD's
no worries, two of those drives are 10+ years old, bound to crap out (and have) any minute
Blue one came from an i3 730 prebuilt, and one of the greens came from a 2500k rig
When i do actually buy a nas, i’ll have to buy legit drives for it tho
I believe the wd reds are nas drives. Then there is enterprise class too
im tossing up between using my spare drive bays in my current rig for some extra network storage, or just build a dedicated NAS.
If i did build a NAS from scratch, i would definitely be open to case suggestions
currently, i have 2 3.5 inch bays spare, but if i built a NAS, i would be looking at doing at least a 4 bay
Make a case out of cardboard
who do you think i am, linus sebastien?
plus, lets be real
at some point its going to be used as a coaster/mixing station
"Oooooops! It totally didn't shatter to 87934284923849208423904290890348 billion pieces!"
I guess so
and id rather the whole thing didnt fall apart on me
?t lfg
Thanks Poddy
no problem I saw a bunch of numbers
100TB SSD for 40,000$
Can finally store all my minecraft mods on
And then have 10 bytes left when I'm done
"Now it's not, strictly speaking, part of our loan agreement for this drive to open it up, but the way that I see it, they had to know who they were dealing with, yeah?"
Question i did a over clock and this is before and after good?
I HAVE CHANGED MY CPU COOLER AND TEMPS ARE B/W 60 70 WHILE GAMING IS THAT OK
ITS OK
Might do better with some better airflow in the case, but otherwise that is an improvement
i have my air conditioner turned off would it effect if i turn it on
5* in the room won't make a huge difference, at that point it's more about the component itself performing the best cooling (getting good airflow, it not actually blowing hot air through the fans, etc
I see, yeah your room is a bit hot. That can contribute along with less than stellar airflow
Most people I've seen testing coolers typically have their ambient room temp at around 21
yup then gotta turn on the ac
31 deg in a room is HOT dude 😄 i would deffo melt there
Coolant in my custom loop is cooler than your ambient temperature while im gaming
Uh I mean... I'm fairly certain they aren't very powerful
Rippp 500 Cad is maybe a 1060 at most
500 cad for 1 GPU or a PC with a 1060
just the gpu
Poor kid
Ehh at least he wasn't one of the poor souls that I've seen go out and buy dual 2080s
Oh god please
then wonder why sli isn't good for gaming
lmao
That part fucking sucks for new people
They just over spend thinking that's the best thing in the world
Without even researching one goddamn thing
lmao
it a couple years old now
I think I probably overspent my shit in some parts of when I had stuff
But eh
I had a 1060 3GB
Poor
Fucking
Me
oh
I got the 6gb version
understandable
Yeah the only game I struggle with is arma 3 which I don't play so
And got a 7700K ( Not really such a good buy, wasn't exactly great to have that ages on but good nonetheless ), DDR4-2666MHz RAM 2x8GB that had been on 2133MHz for a long time, because I didn't know what XMP was, and then I had myself a 1TB Samsung 860 SSD
I still have that SSD, and it's still pretty good
Had it since uhh
A good long while
Nah, upgraded to 3700X, 32GB DDR4-3200MHz CAS16, 2070 Super,
The storage?
Still the Samsung Evo 860
so ur still running 2133 then
I'm running 3200MHz now I said
because that is base clock of 3200
And enabled XMP for it
Oh?
so if you buy 3200 MHZ ram then it can come 2133 until you clock it up to 3200
my friend figured this out when he was doing his ryzen build
He was like what is this bs?
How does that work then?
Set up XMP profiles? In what way?
I'm not sure because I didn't have to do it since I'm ddr3 and haven't upgraded yet
I can ask him tho
I just know that it's a bit complicated
so if ur not confident then you don't touch it
But why would it have to be like that for Ryzen? That doesn't sound right
That's just dumb though
it's fixed through xmp from the looks of it tho
it seems to be a fairly common issue
Still doesn't make sense though
Lol yeah
I'm trying to find other forums specifically about RAM showing 3200MHz but not running that speed in reality
Nowhere can I see that
and unless you are worrying about ur ram clocks speeds then
aka nobody cares enough to check?
If it means I have to manually overclock it, course I'll fucking do it lmao
But it's stupid that XMP wouldn't work like that
I still don't quite believe it to be something, but eh
I think you can check in task manager
For what?
Yeah it literally says 3200MHz
either way now you know that there can be issues
And I went through this, thinking "Is this guy fucking with me or what"
so the more you know
Hey man its a wide wacky world
and now you can rest in peace
knowing that ur pc
is the best little pc it can be
Is perfectly fine
exactly
Still not quite the setup yet however
I still have to find a CPU cooler now
Because lost the AM4 bracket for DRP4, so now my brother's girlfriend gets the 7700K with the DRP4
nice
For some reason, it ran at like 80 but I assume it must be some slightly meh paste or needed a reapply
Oh yeah and the RAM was actually 2400MHz for that 7700K PC
:)
it's like the size of my head
It cools quite nicely though, epic
I swear
That would be uhh
Really fucking gigantic if it was
I heard there was this new uh
ok now quite that big, but close
It caught my attention cause specs seemed quite nice, and needed a better cooler than stock either way
Shadow Rock 3
I think
Yeah it is
Looks really nice, it looks like they nailed it really well with the copper bars or whatever lmao
I mean ryzen has such a low tdp and runs petty cool that will get you thru life
Yeah
It just seems like it's nicely not too far off from the performance of a DRP4 and a quiet CPU cooler
lol
it's nice in the winter
My room stays cool with the fan I'm using on window
see I hate the cold
so
that would be too much
Fans AC's and Ice are bad in my eyes
ur like my brother he has a fan too
It's not that cold in my room
It's moderately cool, no one will complain
Better than scorching hotter than the sun
I want these new nvidia cards now!
Tomorrow would be ok too
This channel has been waiting for those cards quite a few months now
Go back to AyyMD you one-sided freak
I'd get Intel you big dummy >:(
If only, they didn't keep reusing the same fucking 14nm bs lol
Because I'm sure Intel could be perfectly fine with 10nm and would game better
Oh nice
Intel was always expensive lmao
Too overpriced and was bullshit
Like sure
They had cool stuff like a 7700K
Which was the last superior 4 core CPU which still holds up great to this day
For gaming mainly, at least
Gotta sell those chipsets baby, make the $$$
kek
But yeah there were new tiers, they just charged out the ass for it. If you wanted 6 cores, you were paying double you would for a quad core
Not to mention probably almost double for the chipset too
Their Extreme platform was pure robbery
kek
Haha @abstract kite I do both, my 3950x runs well!
But AMD doesn’t have any high end GPU good enough by far, yet!
will be fun seeing what their big Navi brings
I am probably blind, but how what is the fastest RAM this can take?https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b550-aorus-elite/p/N82E16813145214

I am blind
There's a spec page on the top right
Literally any speed you would want
note: that doesn't mean a RAM kit with such numbers on the box would work. Merely that the option to try is there.
only really a concern for really high frequencies 4000+ though. Depends on the CPU a lot, as the memory controller is there
3700X will be the CPU
I mean, if you can get it to 3600MHz CAS16, that's cool
If you can get it sharper on timings, that's cool too
ludvig’ll be able to buy one and write it off as business expenses
i'm hopeful for big navi, but they've been throwing that term around for years, and iirc the last one we ended up getting was the radeon VII, which they end of lifed like 2 years after it came out, and was really only a budget titan in the first place
i'm more than happy to stick with nvidia for working drivers, but i'd be thankful for anything from AMD that could keep their prices in check
2 years? Radeon VII came out last year and they apparently EOL'd it right after Navi came out
I guess technically its been a year and a half, but sure
So around 6 months after it came out which is pretty weird actually
there’s gunna be a radeon Vii pro at the end of this year
a competitor to the quadro
Oh?
this should stand for get the fuck out
What GPU would be good for gaming in 2020? I am not looking to get a brand new 3080 Super or whatever Radeon Delivers.
The brand new 3080 Ti
I have yet to choose a one. I am think the 5700XT like what I have, however the model that I have no longer exists.

I mean, if it's 1080p 144hz, I guess a 2060 Super/5600XT is fine
If you're not going to buy a GPU just now, I could recommend waiting anyways for a possible price drop for RTX 2000 series
Will either of those be bottle necked by a Ryzen 5?
I am going to wait
A 1600? Probably not
GPU is the last thing on my list because how expensive they are.
I planned on getting the Ryzen 3700x. The same CPU that I have in my rig.
But looking at the price for a Ryzen 5....

No.
Mmk
This is for a friend.
So I guess 1080p 60 or 144?
:(
One thing at a time
R5 3600, I could recommend a 2070 Super/5700XT if it's considerably cheap
Otherwise, just get the lower one, like the 5600XT or 2060 Super
Or a 1660 Super
that asros b550 board shot up $100 on new egg
Now 200?
$260
Wowie
New Egg
$240, but $255 with shipping
Yikes
I want to attempt to future proof the build
Ah, futureproofing
That orange is ugly xD
Amazon got it for 160$
lol it's kinda meh
But if it fits your color or don't care, it's cool
Probably not a super epic RAM though
Yes
@abstract kite Talking about ram memes, Just figure out max FCLK clock your CPU can do and go on from there.
For maximum ram speed memes: https://www.gskill.com/product/165/299/1580449423/F4-4000C15D-16GTRSTrident-Z-RoyalDDR4-4000MHz-CL15-16-16-36-1.50V16GB-(2x8GB)
4800mhz C18 kit
4000 C15 is pretty insane aswell

The orange you see in the image of the board are ARGB leds
You can turn them off or make it whatever color you like
I just see orange names
it seems I ran into a bit of a problem. I've been trying to connect my PS4 to my monitor with HDMI to DisplayPort but it turns out those kinds of wires only goes from DisplayPort to HDMI. I searched up online and it says I need an active adapter.
so I bought this adapter
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00EDT0072/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You didn't just get a HDMI to HDMI?
the HDMI on my monitor is being used by my computer so I want to use my display port with my PS4
it would be annoying to keep plugging and unplugging whenever I want to switch between computer and ps4
You could use a HDMI splitter, but eh. Feels like the actual problem is the one-way cable.
why not put computer on displayport and ps4 on hdmi?
does that work? HDMI tower to DisplayPort monitor?
I thought that wire was only one way
They mean
I just bought that adapter. It has not arrived yet
I will get it tomorrow
I'm currently using the DisplayPort right now for my tower
but it's DisplayPort Tower to HDMI monitor
my monitor has both DisplayPort and HDMI
So why aren't you just using a displayport cable?
the wire I'm currently using for my PC is DisplayPort to HDMI
Yeah just get a display port cable.
I'll try that then
I just didn't have the right cables at the time
does it matter what kind of DisplayPort cable I buy?
No, just get whatever length you might need
1m 2m whatever
I suppose there are different revisions of Displayport, but that's kind of hard to tell which one your hardware is using. Its all backwards and forwards compatible
In that case get the latest revision so you can use it for a while
It says not compatible with 144hz?
my monitor is only 60 refresh rate
I mean, I though like something with higher resolution + 60Hz basically meant if you were going a smaller resolution it’d be supporting 144Hz or whatever
Well that's the thing
Say you upgrade your display to a higher refresh, now you need a new cable along with it
Probably just that the adapter only operates on a lower refreshrate.

Probably just that the adapter only operates on a lower refreshrate.
An adapter can be constructed however. If the adapter itself only translates data at the rate of 60Hz, then that's what the refresh rate is going to be limited to.
Oh you mean the cable itself? Probably the same reason.
If it's just the cable, I dunno.
It could just be that it's a 20 pin cable, and it's not supposed to be used with video screens, so they put that as a disclaimer.
Companies, per example, are not allowed to sell video screens with 20-pin HDMI/DP cables due to that it can cause damage to the hardware.
parasitic javascript bitcoin miners just got a lot faster https://gpu.rocks/
They can go... Even further and beyond....
RDNA 2 release of November apparently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9sAH4b5RTo
Just in time for the new consoles
lel
get the fk out
nice page about mainboards: https://motherboarddb.com/
Hey, I currently Have a GTX 1060 and want to upgrade to a better one so I can stream properly, anyone got a suggestion on which one I could buy?
1550 super onwards have a better encoder for streaming
After that it's basically your budget
If you can afford it a 2070 super is probably all you'd ever need
1650*
@velvet sage id wait a couple of months for the new Nvidia cards to drop
You should be able to pick up a either used card at a good price of people wanting to be upgrading, or a discounted from a store, or a new one if that tickles your fancy
As ProjektFighter said, something around the 2070 super would keep you going for a loong time
im wondering
which one better
notebook (laptop) or pc
which one can run game better?
Ofc depends on the laptop of desktop pc in question
But in general I’d say desktops are usually more powerful
Aye
You can get a small light case
okay
since i dont know how to build one so
im just gonna hire someone
and throw money at them
Its easy
no capping?
1290 usd
Big case or small case
will it be less performance if i choose small case
Its a little harder to work on if you have big hands. Otherwise not much difference
Depends on the components and if they fit
Really personal preferences
i prefer small case then if it not gonna be more expensive and less performance
Once you’re done building it do you think you’ll want to upgrade it?
Ok, then get a bigger power supply because I made that mistake and it cost me like 300$
And try and get a case with a power supply niche, makes it easier
It plugs into the power supply
You need to meet the watt demand of your Pc to make it function
As ProjektFighter said, something around the 2070 super would keep you going for a loong time
I just don't have a shit ton of money, that I could spend, so I'm not sure if I can afford that graphics card, but I guess the fact that the priced will drop and that I won't have to buy a new one in a few years mgiht be worth it.
But good news, I just was streaming the game, while recording it, all on 1080/60 and still had above 60 fps, but still, I'm not sure what the future will bring and if it will be keeping on like that.
Maybe go for a 2060? I have one and it’s great
if you use GPU encoding, you should have zero FPS loss while streaming.
Doesn’t Nvidia have something like that for streaming?
it supplies power 🥁
Also, pcpartpicker will estimate the watt demand of your pc, try and go about 100-150 watts above that to make it easier to upgrade
It change your power from 120v wall plug to 12 and 24v for pc
Or you can throw in a hamster and wheel 😏
That works too
is 439W alot
No.
No, I have a 750W power supply for a 300W PC
I pay 0.30USD per kilowatt 😢
Ye same
that's nice
i pay like 900USD every 3 months for electricity though I have many devices running 24/7
and the 439w are mostly peak consumption
900 usd? Are you mining bitcoins? Lol
But I’m in Quebec so the trade off is high taxes 😂
South america?
I did, tho many many years ago (2010-2016). I run some servers and me and gf playing games
600 usd
high prices over here 😕
though electronic parts are cheap to buy in my country ( i live in 🇨🇭 )
Hopefully it’ll go back down soon
thailand
that sucks cat :/
like
you have to find out how much you pay per kilowatt, then you could estimate how much you pay for electricity for the pc
it such a funny shit ever
government try to help citizen during covid 19 by giving free money
but charge more
even if you dont use electricity they still charge you 100 usd
Damn ok
So use pc part picker for reference for parts and source locally i guess. And you dont need window. Just bootleg it in a local coputer shop
But make sure they dont replace your awesome stuff with shitty stuff lol
mostly i download crack window from websites
Or amazon a coperate key for 10$
i do not recommend to install windows from an image that is not provided by microsoft. Anyone could install or modifying code without you knowing. Especially installing rootkits provided with those images can be very difficult to fix
Also while speaking about micrsoft: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-10-hosts-file-blocking-telemetry-is-now-flagged-as-a-risk/ LOL
How does that happen?
wdym mayo? infecting the OS?
Ah, so it's not a fault?
I meant if you grab the windows10 .iso file somewhere on the internet, that could mean that someone installed malware or rootkits already, or did some other stuff
Well, that's true
y’all have any good suggestions for a sub 200/150 usd headset?
I use an ATH-AD700X. But audiotechnica offers other options
Why usb? =(
usd
Oops haha
I think headphone like mice are very subjective
Unless its razer that shit sucks and we hopefully all agree
Razer does suck, the mouse and keyboard probably doesn't. But meh, Razer products just look like crap for too much money
It's overpriced but it works.
The quality is also bad. My razer headphones are glued together and held with tape. 1kg headset held by tiny pieces of plastic.
Razer software also somehow was incredible bad written. Consumes a lot of cpu cycles
Yeah, it isn't the best. But they have some good items, though often at a larger prices than equals of other brands.
Whenever i go louder or more silent i have 20% cpu load for some time by the razer. It also constantly polls and uses the gpu to render their UI even if not displayed. Super odd engineers they have
I also used the synapse ver 2 not 3 as my products are older
Generally this software for mice keyboard and headphone is just hot bloatware garbage
I wouldn't know. As soon as Synapse requires you to create an account, I'm not installing that stuff
Need to program a simple macro for ur keyboard? Here install this 300mb logitech crap
Yea registering accounts even worse wtf
i mean, i just want something that sounds good and has a decent mic as my current one sucks balls
I like my wifes kingston hyper x headphone but dunno how expensive they are
My right monitor (yes it's an old bricky one) leaks over when it's in fullscreen
Not much, but in apps like discord it's rather noticable as you can see
Any idea how to fix it
no idea but i have the same too
I'd use something like ShiftWindow and shave a few pixels off.
can manually resize and apply window size with values
hmm
Ah
Yo for the new nvidia cards, is there a chance for it to sell out. Bc ive heard some people weren't able to get them when they released
Because they're competing w add to cart bots and stuff
No waiting.
Waiting is a fun thing

:(
I dislike waiting
Impatient boy
Ive waited for too long i have a gtx 960
lmao damn
Starting to get impatient after 6 years you know i wanna cop it asap
Still
I might just get a bot honestly
lol imagine getting a BOT
Just wait dude
Sure, your GPU is poopoo and you want new GPU
But waiting? Is very rewarding
^
Right now in particular, two new gens of GPU coming out this year
They'll likely drive down the prices of previous generations
And have new technologies that are in the new consoles
and all the people rushing to sell their old stuff for a good deal on the used market(so it's a fast buy)
But gotta be careful with that. Scams are out in full force.
I hope that RDNA 2 is going to be good
It should be
The leaks are looking nice
Ye
I just hope that the Ray-tracing features are good
It's the only reason I'd upgrade
with a Vega 64, at 1080p, I've got no urge to upgrade yet
Yeah, indeed.
Plus all the consoles are using it
So it's likely going to set the floor for the GPU side of things
Sorry, I meant all the new consoles
The Xbox One controller is nice
Oh, it's fine ig
It's cool, but I'm more used to the PS controllers
With how the joystick and buttons are at
And the PS5 one seems real good, something like an Xbox kinda body, but set to be similar to previous PS controllers in place where buttons/joystick are
I mean, everyone has a preference anyways kek
PS4 controller is quite nice too
tbh, I'm just hoping for a steam controller 2
It's a great controller
It's a hard controller to justify
Steam Controller? I've heard nothing but negative opinions toward it for the most part
It's essentially a KB+M replacement and a Controller replacement
It's kinda cool tbf
It's a very niche controller that has a quite literal learning curve to using it
It's nice
But it's useless in most cases
Ye
Good reason they were liquidating them for 5 bucks, granted $15 shipping
Just for "Fuck using the keyboard/mouse" or "I sit 500 miles away from my PC"
But I never really go far away from my desk to justify using it
I used it a bit for driving in GTA but it's kinda shit use considering I'm so used to keyboard/mouse
lol
I'm okay with using the keyboard for driving in GTA, but fuck flying with it
Flying with it is cool and easy
Oh boy
I don't think anyone would have done it without needing a controller
RC helicopter baby
lol
And don't get me started with the bandit Zero mission
waa wuh wuh
2070 Super discontinued?
Well that's for sure interesting :)
"In early July it was reported that NVIDIA is planning to retire its high-end RTX 20 Series stack, as the next-generation graphics cards is approaching. Since then, NVIDIA AICs have indeed begun the process of delisting their current high-end lineup and stores have started to offer interesting promotions on remaining stock"
The discontinuation list of NVIDIA RTX 20 graphics cards included:
GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
GeForce RTX 2070
"All of these cards are high-end models. What this means is that NVIDIA could be planning to replace the whole enthusiast segment at once, which would not be surprising considering NVIDIA rolled out RTX 20 series with 2080Ti, 2080 and 2070 at the same time"
"The Chinese site MyDrivers has a good track record when it comes to graphics card production information, after all, most of the cards are made in China. They are usually spot on when it comes to early indicators when the models are discontinued. Today they reported that the RTX 2070 SUPER, which was also mentioned in the previous report, is now ‘completely’ discontinued. Reportedly the last batch of the chips (GPUs) has been dispatched and no furthers orders will be accepted. What this means is that the RTX 2070 SUPER life has ended and the remaining chips will be the last to be sold."
RTX 2060 / GTX 1660 price increase
The two series which have not yet been discontinued: GeForce RTX 2060 and GeForce GTX 1660 are seeing increased popularity due to the rising popularity of cryptocurrency mining in China. As a result (depending on a model) the price has increased by 5 to 20 USD in retail channels. Meanwhile, factory prices are to increase by 30-40 Yuans (4 – 6 USD).
It is worth adding that neither RTX 2060 nor GTX 1660 series are expected to be replaced by next-generation Ampere series at any time soon. The mid-range offer is likely to be refreshed at a later date. We have mentioned possible launch months for these cards in this post.
Just a reminder that 3000 series are right around the corner. Halting production on these just confirms that.
Yeah
But I'm surprised the 2070 Super and 2080 Super are getting cut off production
Well a little less surprising for 2080 Super, but 2070/Super still
They'll still be in circulation for a long while until stock dries up.
Yeah
And if it does dry up, why would you go for a new 2080 instead of a 3070 or whatever the price equivalent is going to be.
Apparently the PS5 will actually have a different final design
At least rumors say it
So it's thought to be twice as big than the PS4 Pro
Yeah we already knew it was gonna be a big one
I recall seeing an image of someone holding it
Gives you an idea on scale really
Oh?
Depends if you like PowerPoint presentations with really slow transitions
yes
Nice statistics about IPv6 usage with google services in different countries: https://www.google.com/intl/en/ipv6/statistics.html#onethird&tab=per-country-ipv6-adoption
(remember that ipv4 should be dead many many years ago. Remember to participate disabling ipv4 in 2030 so our upcoming generation do not have to deal with this crap)
A score of 4/20
Do not understand anything about it, but eh
Uses IPv4, so that's probably why?
Yeah
I'll take the assumption my family hasn't gotten around to having IPv6 or router does not support
kek
Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't have IPv6 support, but then again my family may have gotten another like a few years ago
17/20 yeah I noticed I got ipv6 support some time last year
Will a windows 10 laptop be able to run this game I haven't hit any waves yet and I was curious if I hit a wave if my computer will probably crash
there are laptops that can run it. but kinda hard to guess what's inside yours
Alright thank you
