I'm just thinking of buying Corsair's cables since ordering them from Cablemod will get me the cables a week or two later than all the parts.
I already ordered all the parts.
If you want your cables to be only white, thats a decent option
Plus then you get full cables rather than just extensions
I want the Lian Li Strimer Plus RGB cables, but I can only find the 24 pin Plus and not the 8 pin Plus.
Cant really get either of them over here
I considered the regular strimers, but apparently they are prone to falling apart
No
Full cables will replace any cables that come with the power supply, extensions merely extend the original cables.
Is liquid cooking for a GPU worth it?
In my opinion, I don't think liquid cooling is worth it in most cases. Like for anything
Cooling* lol sorry
Lmao
GPU liquid cooling isn't really what you want to do
Uuuunleeesss you're going for an SFF
Then yeah you might need it
Oh
Like those really small cases, kind of wanna do those at one point
Um so the thing is, yeah liquid cooling can allow to push clocks in most cases
However the increase just won't be worth it for how much it costs
You can overclock with just air cooling however, if it's good
Okay cool. Also they should make aio GPU coolers lol. It'd be so much easier
There is AIO GPU coolers lol
You might gain 10% performance in the best case, great but it cost hundreds to get that. Its an enthusiast option for those that have expendable cash
They come at a fucking dumb price though aaaa
Yeah I mean those exist, I know there are certain cards that came with an aio cooler for its reference model
Holy shit
Like the R9 Fury X
That thing was 750 bucks
Fury Fire
The 2080ti Kingpin is like 1600 or something right?
Okay sick. Thanks for all the all the help today guys. I really appreciate it.
Graphics cards shouldn't be this expensive
That might be the Kingpin I mentioned actually
Yeah
Best case scenario for cooling, you can get the part to the temperature of the air that you are using to cool it, regardless of water or air, the main advantage of water cooling is that it lets you do the cooling elsewhere, so you can have a larger surface area for heat transmission, allowing you to get closer to ambient
As said before, its mostly noticeable on sff builds where you dont have room for bulky heat sinks, but in builds where you have enough space and airflow to utilize bulky air coolers, temperature differences will be fairly minimal
I had this whole massive thing typed up, but it got deleted when i tried to send it, so TL;DR, you wont see a major improvement over a good air cooler unless you go all out and have heaps of radiator space
f
Still fighting to get those clips in
Yep
And do what?
Yeah to mount the center fan.
Why the manufacturer thought clips over a screw is beyond me.
Its always weird seeing things that clearly never should have gotten past manufacturing
Almost like noone on the design team actually used them before they hit mass production
Let's see how the fuckers managed to put the fans on
Like
It's a bit of a struggle, but if done outside of the case it's not that bad
I can see while the Mobo is out
But it huuuurts either way
My first time putting it together I spent over half an hour just clipping it on
second and third time for cleaning I either got used to it or got lucky. Honeslty not sure
With I could just weld the thing on kek
now I just vacuum through the fan and don't disassemble it at all
Duct tape and zip ties ;)
I think i remember hearing someone say something about reusing noctua brackets
Lemme just buy a noctua CPU cooler for the brackets xD
At this point I wouldn't doubt it.
Probably just in ease of use alone itd be better
But I'm not gonna spend the money on it.
Plus noctua goodness
I had to put my own DRP4 onto the mobo in the case
Otherwise its just an almost identical generic double tower
NH-D15 fan is bigger than the cooler part. It moves air below the cooler a little bit. Should affect things slightly
Wanna know the most annoying sound?
D15 is a big boi tho
DRP isn't a lightweight either
When you're about to clamp the last side down, but then the other side makes a pop noise.
Meaning it fell off
Like it's laughing at you.
Nah, but iirc its like a 120mm base vs a 140mm
Thought it was same fan
Same tbh
I knew the outside one was 120mm, coz ram clearance
The D15 is supposed to have shocking clearance
Shocker
Yeah that fan is pretty much resting on my RAM right now. Wonder if there's any squish action going or if it's perfect clearance
I wouldn't test it
If i had a guess
The bastard will fall apart out of spite
You might be a mm or two out
But its putting flex onto the cooler rather than the ram
So you might not have consistent pressure on your ihs
Either that or you might have it perfect
true, even so it wouldn't be concentrated force onto a point, so shouldn't be an issue regardless
I honestly want to remove the middle fan, but I know I can't.
Itd still cost you a degree or two
Not catastrophic unless you are trying to get every little bit of performance out of it
Get an oc record or something stupid
I mean, the asus 5600 xt had issues with heat because they had much lower mounting pressure than they should have
Which by the sounds is mostly down to AMDs reference specs and their last minute bios bait and switch, plus asus not doing due diligence
a moment of silence for our fallen brethren
Is anyone on I need help
Yes?
To let you know that I broke my hard drive but I got a new one is doing a reboot and select thing
I just want to know what's wrong so I can know what to do
The new one is in my PC
I don't know if I need a Windows 10 key or something else
You've broken off a connector pin.
Wait is the entire plastic part off?
Could you take a photo on an angle, or so, from above?
Yeah. How did the plastic come off like that?
Idk I try to take it off nice but not
Nope
But I got a new one
But my PC is doing this now
It feels like you've broken it off by moving it up and down., but ye
Is the drive partitioned?
This isn's stuff I usually tinker with, but I would say the Drive isn't initialized properly.
This is a prebuilt PC
It was working fine until I took it off and puting a new hard drive
Hello
I'm unsure if I can help you further myself.
I got help form somewhere else
Hi guys
Can I have some assistance
I was gonna get a windforce rtx 2070 super, but then I noticed there are like 10 versions of the 2070 super. Which version should I get?
If you think you can fit the Windforce 2070 Super, I'd say go for it. It's not the highest clocked variant, but the difference isn't too significant anyway(the price is )
The 3 fans and a big cooler should serve nicely.
Usually the choice comes down to price and if you can fit it/don't mind a big card.
Any other good ideas to cool ram?
i dont feel like having fan on my gpu backplate 24/7 xd
there exist something like this but TBH since the end of DDR2 I never used them anymore since DDR3/4 are just have very low volt and do not get very warm in case with normal to good airflow
sometimes, heatspreaders on RAM can be opposite; instead of cooling down, they warming up the RAM even more
I tried hyperx version of that, sadly its too tall
that fitting is on the way
i got idea
That hyperx ram cooler has two 60mm fans in this sled
i just replace better fans in there and make custom mount
some sort of thing to hang it on front of the fans
Shouldn't the "passive" airflow already cool the RAM well and good?
So, you can't increase voltage to compensate for that?
this 120mm fan keeps them under 40C
Increasing voltage -> more heat -> more errors
im already at 1.5V
Yeah, I guess. but it feels like it would be a problem that is solvable with some more tinkering. Like increasing motherboard main voltage or something.
I could be wrong, though.
Yea i have tried everything, I was just thermally limited
Alright guys I'm giving up with the clips for the DRP4 middle fan... Will this work?
3733mhz c14 1500% already in ramtest. I test to 7-9000% and call it a day
it will but thats just dumb lol
Yeah. If you want an alternative fan, I know Noctua sells like 20-40-80mm fans that are somewhat powerful.
noctua has 60x25 fans that i could fit on to that sled
I can't get it to go on I've been trying to get these damn clips to stay on since last night lol
I would say, don't give up on the clips.
Give it a pause, then try again.
Assuming it's stock configuration.
And you've looked at reference pictures, and tried to ape them? In what way does it not work?
When I put the end points into the holes and go back to hook the clips body to the sink it over extends itself to the back portion of the first set of divots. This meaning the clips won't have a snug fit and will pop off when the tower is vertical.
Have you tried locking them loosely, then tightening the other side into the other divots?
Ah yesss looks like 1866 FCLK worked out after all
So both are not attached, then? Are they in the correct place on the fan to begin with?
Call it what you like, but I put rubber bands to hold it down
So long it works. I've done the same, but when I couldn't use my GPU fan. Remember that rubber bands age, and get frail, with time.
Eh. Hopefully it holds.
Family is saying that the heat will melt and snap the rubber bands @sick reef
How likely is that to happen?
Maybe. Not melt, but might age them early.
I'm gonna upgrade to a few long zip ties
Those won't hinder airflow, maybe by a tiny margin, but nothing to be concerned about.
i have no clue how those stock clips did not work out
Too fragile or perhaps I was too Unlucky? Kek
You probably know and i look like i would nag but keep in mind that ram testing software run under windows are 'flawed'
can you elaborate
What is this Windows 10 update trying to encourage people to use their web browser? XD
I don't like that the first thing you get upon logging in is the forced introduction to Edge.
You can't manually close the window unless you go into task manager to end the process.
That link speaks for itself
@jade ermine because when you boot windows up it will allocate and use ram for itself
This part of the ram will never be checked a ram testimg tool
The new edge that's chromium based (not the older edge) is actually really performant and solid, a fair few of my coworkers have started adopting it over chrome and I may follow if I can bring myself to deal with the transition
I feel Microsoft is trying to force people to use their browser so they can spy on them.
Save the internet! Support firefox as last non chromium based browser
Chromium is made by google๐
honestly from what I've seen working from big company business intelligence, microsoft is fairly low on the data points about people totem pole
I still use Google Chrome because I'm used to it, but what is Firefox like?
it's google, then facebook, then a few aggregation companies, before microsoft
for a company that cannot be named, we could roughly estimate your credit score based off of just google data points and tailor what products to show you that you could afford loans on.
without you ever giving us any personal info other than hitting our launch page
What if I don't use a credit card though?
Welcome to the life of cookies.
partially, lots of thumbprinting
google will sell you everything about someones data, but leave out personally identifying things like a name
but gives you such a specific thumbprint you can easily get the full picture
by mixing them with more data sources
Do all web browsers do the same?
Some of you may know me: when i make fun about a super URL somome posted that means the URL is tracking
Or its a scummy affiliate
well, we were able to have good reliability on chrome, IE, edge, and (a bit less) firefox
I don't click on URLs anymore in Discord.
really it was just the more niche browsers like the firefox spin off, brave
that there was any issue with
but 99.9% of customers dont use anything thats not the big 3
A user in another server once masked a news article link to have an IP logger within it.
that's just malicious
Not the same thing, actually.
I mean I consider phishing a malicious act
Most people dont care for privacy or internetfreedom, hence there is only 3 big browsers
Is there a reason links don't provide a preview in this channel?
I mean internet freedom is long damned, privacy isn't a concept. you can have less of a footprint for the average person to follow
but you can't be private from larger scale entities
the best option people have nowadays would be to take control of their data and make a profit on it versus letting data aggregation companies do it
Remember the Cambridge Analytica thing involved with Facebook?
Sure you can stay private from large entities
Sure but most people fail step 1, don't use windows
If you want to use google services and be private thats a oxymoron
As far as I know, you can mess with it until it won't work as intended.
Remember Apple's repair program that apparently requires repair shops in it's program to share information about their customers with Apple such as names, phone numbers, and addresses?
And still be "average"
don't have linked account, seperate accounts, peferably over browsers, don't save information, cookies, that including even google.
And if a shop leaves the program, Apple can inspect it for up to 5 years. It's like if you have a job that has mandatory drug testing, then you quit the job, but the job still tries to enforce the drug testing.
It's not perfect, obviously.
sure but one slip up at any point and you get that data permanently stored away and eventually distributed through an aggregator, and then you're thumbprinted enough to track through it
you would have had to be privacy centric from the moment you stepped onto the internet
VISA is a massive offender of this
Who is primarily sold information about users? Advertising companies to provide more relevant ads?
I haven't worked for them so I can talk about it, but I've heard through plenty of colleagues the level of data farming
Mostly any company that deals with selling to customers
Amazon, apple, microsoft, google all sell data to eachother
financial companies like banks are huge huge, car companies, home companies.
The worst is the new generation :"use a vpn, privacy blabla". Thiy utopia thinking and scamming
I thought VPNs were scams.
Dont buy a vpn to think u are safe
The place I mentioned working for before, we had the consumer financial protection bureau literally have a makeshift office in our headquarters and we were just ordered to never engage with them
Vpns are great, marketed for the wrong purpose
VPN is good for region locks.
Unless you can guarantuee 100% connection its great. In reality impossible
I mean in teems of online security
The point being, unless you've been paranoid since the first time you made an account somewhere it's too late to be private, you can just limit further data mined on you
With the rise of machine learning it's near impossible to create splinter accounts that can't be traced back through behavioral thumbprinting
but of course, this all ends up being aggregated and not really dangerous to a specific person, but just data run through even more obscure ML functions to tailor an experience to you
Probably makes it easier to be a private detective.
youd think so, but thankfully the number of people that could go and pull up specific data on X persons name is extremely limited
Couldn't you subcontract the info from a company?
Maybe? but data aggregation companies dont give a shit about individuals
they sell data in the billions/millions
You know the website haveibeenpwned where it checks if your email was involved in a data breach?
There's very little money to be made from selling info on a specific person vs giant swathes of data
so no one really cares to do it
minus like, darker stuff such as identity theft
Isn't it fully possible for websites like that who require only an email to check certain things, and then if you login to your email, the website can link the login and email together to gain the password too?
I would assume that site just does a lot of web scraping and stores a record of what it found to do a lookup to on whatever you search
and yeah theoretically if it was developed to steal your password it could easily do that
store a record of a session's entry for email, then tie it to the login that session does
a normal service, website or company will never save your password in plaintext. And those who do, for those there is a extra place in hell reserved for them
and shawn, if I understand it correctly: There is no account that only has your email address as login information and no password. haveibeenpwned is not a site that requires you to login. I can go and check your email and potential, it's not bound to my account
But I assume for example, it can keep that email address and when someone logs into their email, they can bind the login attempt and password to that email.
do you mean spoofing? Like if I would make a page that looks like gmail but it's not and you type in your credentials?
email (SMTP) is the craziest in regards of rules, compliances, spam identifaction etc. I had small project of installing a an email server for a company. In the end I had to learn for about 500hours to fully understand it. 300 hours only about the topic spam, the rest on how to to set it up
email had no security in mind so spamming is super easy and very lucrative
No, I mean like, the website stores the email when it's entered, and then when you go login to that email later, it connects the password used to that email.
If i understand it correct; no thats not possible. Alone from the email you wont be able to read ur password and if i login with my mail somewhere else, it will never receive this password
the pwned website just uses public knowledge. Meaning it will only show incidents regarding mass breaches. If I would hack your hotmail account it would be very unlikely that this pwned website will ever know about.
on a slightly related note, someone has been trying to reset my runescape account password for the last 6 months
literally every two weeks without fail
Hm
sometimes reset attempts are used to know more about your secondary emails, but continuous approaches may indicate something else
Is 2FA always safe as well?
It's two factor authorization
It literally keeps the nerd dummies away from your account at least
it's very secure but not 100% (almost impossible to achieve)
in other words: very safe from threats from the internet or outside. Potential physical threat
Because there's always some way around something
i agree probably nothing is "bulletproof"
The only thing I could think of that is 100% is iris scans.
generally biometric things are not safe
How are iris scans worked around?
i don't know, just generally biometric is probably the most unsafe. It's still good to have regardles
one may be able to recreate your iris with enough money
I am excited that my PC parts arrive this week.
Is it normal that some parts get shipped before others despite being in the same order?
Newegg.
It can happen
if they have it in a stock
they gonna send it sooner, than the others
sorry for my broken english
It still stuck on "Preparing to Ship".
I just hope I didn't accidentally order a backordered item.
what shipping time did they give? I know some of mine took longers than others
I believe they gave me the 16th for all 4 items.
And is it true that I will need an anti-static wristband to clean off thermal paste from a CPU?
I never used an anti static lol
You can use a paper towel to wipe off the thermal paste, then once the thick fat parts are gone, you can use alcohol
And I also hope I have everything I need in terms of cables and splitters.
The parts should come with cables and I believe extras as well as extras I believe
I have 10 QL120s I need to connect as well as many other RGB components. XD
The lone part got shipped now, it's OK.
How many RGB headers do I need available on the motherboard?
I told you how many that board has, 3 one of which is likely meant for the CPU fans
So some splitters might be necessary if linking isn't possible
No no, one of them is likely meant for the cpu cooler, its set right next to the fan header for the CPU
Hm
So I need a 3 to 1 PWM/RGB fan splitter to power all 3 fans including RGB for the AIO?
Well honestly I don't know how ARGB fans are set up since I don't use them
Can I not plug the AIO fans directly into the Lighting Node Core?
Well you need to use the cpu fan header
I think you're supposed to plug in the radiator and the fans right? Or the pump? Something like that
I'm just scared I don't have everything.
What are the parts I need to put the 3 QL120 fans on the radiator and have them both connected and the RGB working?
I think that should come with the AIO
But in the AIO you recommended I get, the fans aren't RGB.
Oh right, well in that case you would use whatever allows you to address it right?
Is there an extra cable or splitter I need to buy, or do I just plug the fans into the hub included with the QL120 triple pack?
Cause there are RGB fan Castle models, and that comes with an RGB hub or something
Only in 240mm models.
Yeah use the Hub, cause that's what it comes with
With the QL120 fans?
Yeah
I'm assuming I connect all 10 fans into 2 of the Lighting Node Cores, and then connect those 2 hubs to the Commander Pro, then plug all of it into SATA?
I mean if that's how it works, the only lighting I have are a few strips running off a single rgb header and a 3 way splitter
Read the instructions and figure it out is all I can say
I'm just terrified that when I go to build the PC, that I'll find out I don't have all the cables I need.
Well that's the least that can go wrong
Cause what I will be connecting for RGB stuff: The AIO, 10 QL120 fans, Phanteks Neon strips, and the Strimer Plus 24 Pin Extension.
Did you get splitters for the RGB headers?
You're not connecting AIO to RGB though, hm
The QL120s are RGB though, but the stock fans included with the AIO are not.
And which splitter should I buy for RGB headers?
Right like I said, the ones that do have RGB fans come with some kind of hub. So just use the included hub with the fans right?
I'm thinking that's what I do.
What is the average amount of time you can build a computer within?
That depends on your skill
And whether the parts don't break
And whether the delivery of parts is on time
Average time, assuming the stop point is the boot screen
Assuming I have all the parts ready to go, what is average build time, stopping after managing cables?
I dunno an hour and a half, but that's with basic stuff. A whole bunch of additional RGB and fans on top of everything, add some more time
Is cable management difficult or is it easy?
Depends on the case
Cable Management is virtue
But it's easy if you want to do it
The O11 Dynamic XL?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu-3aEyesWQ Intro to AMD GPU hardware if anyone wants to watch kek
It might be sata as some of the AIOs are powered though sata, its for the pump.
My D5 pump is also sata
why does his mic sound like a potato
A thing powered by SATA power will have a sata power cable.
How many SATA connections do you get with the included PSU cables?
Usually one daisy chain with 5-6, but it depends on the PSU.
For cable management, is all I need is zip ties or do I need other things?
You just really need to have place to stuff away the cable, or steer it up.
Is cable management more about routing cables in the correct order?
The case I will be using is the O11 Dynamic XL.
What would I use for the PWM portion of the QL fans?
Would I use the Commander Pro?
cable management is mostly about making sure that cables arent running around stupidly, its all neat, tidy, and functional
there is a bit of an art to it, making sure that if you have groups of cables bunched up that you dont cross them over each other as you route them to where they need to go
as for you AIO, thats probably powered off a motherboard AIO header, most motherboards have them these days, and the fans can be run straight off of the corsair rgb fan hub and the commander pro, but the commander pro can officially only support 6 fans, but unofficially, you can use Y splitters to run two fans off of a single channel to give you a hypothetical max of 12 fans. I wouldnt try run 3 fans off of one channel tho
so you would need to pick up 4x 4 pin PWM fan splitters
or a whole separate commander pro, which is probably not really worth it
also, you are hard limited to a max of 6 fans per lighting node pro
so you would need a minimum of two of those, and it would use both RGB headers on the commander pro
i should probably also clarify that your AIO might have multiple 4 pin PWM headers on it as well, but im not sure what AIO you are getting
So what exactly do I need to power and light all 10 fans?
I have a Commander Pro, do I need to have two of them if I want all 10 to work?
The AIO is a Deepcool Castle 360EX.
gimme half a second to brush up on that AIO, and ill give you a proper answer
And the motherboard I am using is a ROG Z390-E.
guarantee youll have an AIO header then, so no issues there
so apparently that cooler uses a seperate PWM splitter that runs off the mobo CPU fan header
so as for what you would need
2 corsair RGB fan hubs, one commander pro and 4x 4 pin PWM Y splitters
i dont see any point in using lighting nodes because of the limit of 6 QL fans per node, which only takes one of the two available channels, so you may as well go straight fans > RGB hub > commander pro
i cant say if 10 fans will run off a single commander pro tho
Are you even allowed to use two Commander Pros?
Doesn't the pro only have 6 slots?
as long as you have enough usb headers and sata power connections
no reason why not
the pro does have 6 slots yes
How many USB headers are on the Z390-E?
So no you can't have 10 fans in it
Y splitters my dude
its almost like ive been talking about that for the last half an hour
Would this be an option?
https://www.amazon.com/SilverStone-System-Cables-Black-CPF04/dp/B07N3HP8S5?th=1
@restive garnet are you getting upset? ๐
i mean
you tried calling me out without reading anything i said
so yeah, a wee bit
That's unfortunate..
also, that hub would work
but you would lose the ability to control the fans through icue
There's only 2 PWM headers on the motherboard?
well, you've got 4 internal usb 2.0 headers
so if you wanted to run 2 commander pros, it would work
some people reckon you can run 10 fans off one, but the best guide on the forums recommends no more than 8
and corsair dont reckon you should do it at all
apparently that board has 5 PWM headers
2 CPU fans, 2 case fans and an M.2 fan header, plus a header for an AIO, and another header for a dedicated pump
worst case, just run a single commander pro, and use the CPU and case fan headers
I assume with a Commander Pro, you plug in the PWM connector into the 6 fan slots?
The 10th fan is just going to go on the rear mount.
probably the hinging factor is how much control you want to have over fan speeds
If I am correct, one PWM splitter for the 3 fan AIO, then the 6 other fans into the Commander Pro, and then the last fan on the case fan header?
i think so
iirc those corsair fans are 0.30A each
and the fan headers on the mobo all support 1.0A
so you should be able to run 3 fans off a single header
Power Draw on the Corsair website says it's 0.3A.
should be safe then
you would be relying on whatever fan curves you set on your BIOS tho
not that im expecting you to have cooling issues, but its always nice to be able to set up dynamic fan curves for your whole case from a single program
Dynamic fan curves?
so
your BIOS allows you to set up a fan curve based on your CPU temperature
icue lets you set up fan curves based on whatever you want
CPU, GPU, hell, even hard drives iirc
so the two fans on the bottom of my case ramp up as my GPU gets hotter
You could set it based on cpu temp, you could also set it based on mosfet temps and overall system temps at least using my motherboard's Bios fan settings as an example
i wouldnt be surprised, i havent really touched my bios fan control much
actually come to think of it, i havent even run a fan off my mobo in a few years
Do AIOs always include 4 pin fan splitters? I'm unsure if the fan splitter that is seemingly included with the AIO is a 3 or 4 pin.
Having certain fans ramp up based on GPU temp is very useful though
How long of a PWM splitter would I need?
probs not very long
But is it always a 4 pin?
well, it comes with PWM fans
so
they would have to be stupid to send out a 3 pin splitter with an AIO that uses 4 pin fans
How many USB 2.0 headers are there on the Z390-E?
bingo
co pro takes one
your AIO will take one
any USB 2.0 based front panel connector will
which im not sure if your case even has any 2.0 on the front panel
that case doesnt have any 2.0 front panel
yeah
so no issues there
otherwise, i havent checked yet, but odds are those phanteks neon strips will need one as well
Will the Lighting Node Cores take up a USB 2.0 or can I plug those into the Commander Pro?
lighting node core goes to your commander pro
so no issue there
so 3/4 between co pro, AIO, and neon strips
Is there a way I can check the current performance or degradation(if any) of my GPU?
current performance, you can run some benchmarks
compare them against the score from other people with the same model card
and thatll give you as good an idea as you are going to get
otherwise, just do a visual inspection, make sure that nothing is visibly wrong, like no massive dust buildups, no burn marks, no crushed fins on the heat sink etc
with how new your card is, i doubt there will be much/anything wrong with it
so, you could probably just skip all that tbh
How much dust buildup would there be?
except for checking for dust, thats probably something you should do every few months anyway
its pretty normal to see a fine layer across everything
but if you see anything resembling a dust bunny
Is dust easily cleaned off with compressed air?
yes and no
the majority of dust will come off with a quick blast
but a decent amount will get stuck on it and need to be wiped off
fans usually get coated in dust like that
Is removing a graphics card easy?
Yeha
Is it two screws to unscrew and then unclip it from the slot?
So you wanna unscrew the screws on the side case that holds the GPU, and then you need to press some little thing like the RAM slot's lock thing
Once that's done, you can pull it off
I would say the hardest part, is getting to the clip on the PCIE slot
With some of the bulkier cards its a pain in the ass
Yeah
How do you get to it?
Almost always over the top of the backplate
Its just really fiddily
Half the time i just use a screwdriver to push the catch open
The catch is in line with the PCB, so if you have a backplate it mostly blocks easy access to it
I just hope I have enough cables or the splitters to power all 10 fans.
the AIO should come with a 3 way splitter
between your commander pro and the motherboard headers, youll have enough
What is Addressable and Non-Addressable LEDs?
so
addressable means that any particular LED can be a different color
non addressable means that all the LEDs have to be the same color
they can still be RGB, but all the LEDs have to be the same color
So you cannot do animations outside of breathing or color shifting with Non-Addressable LEDs?
pretty much
How many addressable RGB headers would I need if I want both strips and the Strimer Plus cable extensions?
which strips?
the phanteks neon thingys?
getting in to hardware i dont have a lot of experience with, so you might need to give me a minute
I have a Lighting Node Pro as well just in case too.
it was the phanteks neon tubes aye?
Yes.
how many strips are you planning on using?
Let's see, one on the bottom of the case, one on right side of the case, one on top, one to bend around the top right corner of the motherboard, and one on the left side of the case to bend around the bottom edge of the rear mounted case fan, so five.
If it allows it, of course.
its probably doable
you can daisy chain them together, im just trying to find out what the limit is
In a video Bitwit had done, he said the max I think:
5x M4 (total LEDs: 140 pcs)
3x M5 (total LEDs: 114 pcs)
2x M1 (total LEDs: 140 pcs)
He said that is the max one D-RGB header can support.
well
im estimating that youll have about 210 leds ish
so youd probably need 2 headers for the neon alone
iirc the strimers can all be plugged into a single controller which requires its own header
so 3 headers all up
you wouldnt be able to use the headers on your commander pro tho, because they would all be taken up by your QL fans
could run them off a dedicated lighting node pro tho
which would also take up your last internal usb 2.0 header
I think there might be something wrong with my PC... I am getting pixels and my screen is flickering even so much as having distorted colors at times
That is my AMD Software
I quickly seen this and thought it was a Driver Error so I quickly downloaded the latest Drivers... it seemed to correct the problem.
It I believe yesterday
Its not giving it to me for whatever reason, but in any case that would explain it because the latest driver is for 2004 support
And the version of Adrenline I was on was the last one for 20.4
I could have bumped something when I was messing with the middle fan of the DRP4
May need to reseat some stuff if it continues.
Hmm I might have to force the update if it still doesn't give it to me
My temps seem fine
The only other thing I can think of that was out of the ordinary is my Disk (C:) being at a constant 100% for a good duration while my PC was turning on.
Or well rebooting
Do you guys know since you updated to windows 2004 that your games run smooth?
Haven't gotten the version 2004 downloaded yet
And honestly, my games run alright
Perhaps yes, 2004 improved on gaming since it wasn't always the best gaming experience at times
My friend is saying she cannot play a couple games such as Grid or Phantasy Online 2 since said update.
I was not updated to the 20.5.1 (Latest update) and I am crashing playing Minecraft
I have crashed three times.
However
And you did use the latest to test it, yeah?
I am pushing the PC as it is going into full load with the Mod Pack, Resource and Texture Packs
I am going to try
Alright
If I crash then I am saying it is Windows "fixing issues" that were not there.
6900XT leak? Could be fake though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8W_0gFzRGk
This has to be satire
Oh it's moore
If some of it is true
I just hope they're not wrong about the whole 14GB thing
It has to be fake.
I'm just hoping the 14GB ain't wrong at least
Tom's take was decent, it could be deliberate misinformation from AMD; and some of it could be accurate
It would be a smart business move to do something like that lower in price than the RTX 2080TI. Everyone will be flocking to amd. Their latest GPUs already best some Nvidia GPUs when you compare price to performance.
The 2080 Ti was like
1200-1400$
900$ MSRP might be the case
Buuut
1000$ seems okay
Yeah. It keeps getting inflates as well which seems the worst thing that can happen.
The 2080 Ti?
It's only getting inflated like every other PC part because of coronavirus
Yea...
And honestly, getting the 2080 Ti is stupid nowadays, 2080 Super exists, the RTX 3080, possibly 3070 will surpass it
And AMD's GPU too
why would nvidia release a 3080 graphics card with 3000 series AMD processors and gfx cards
Well with Ryzen its 3X00 or in some cases 39X0 including threadripper, Nvidia's cards would always start with a 30
There were early rumors that the RX 5000 cards were gonna be 3000 and named in a similar way to Nvidia. The top card was rumored to be called 3080 XT and you could guess how everything else would have been named.
Sounds very AMD-Unlike
Actually not at all, its not like they haven't done that before
Oh?
The X399 chipset was like the middle finger to Intel
Since Intel's HEDT chipset is X299
Hah, yeah I kind of forgot about that
So 3000 to one up Nvidia 2000 cards, the rumor might have been true to be honest. Nvidia actually trademarked all variations of 30X0, or so I recall hearing
not saying amds hands are clean here
maybe its going to called a 3080 as a throwback to their 3gb 970
I'm not exactly sure I follow. But yeah 970 3.5gb that's a classic
In the case of the 970 they say it has 4gb, but the last 512mb is in some kind of secondary partition and is slower; so it might as well not even be there.
Well eitherway. Let AMD and Nvidia fight it out and lower prices so we the consumers can keep some money in our bank accounts kek
NVIDIA will always be that kind of premium company pretty much
A premium for drivers lol
I still wonder how well the RTX 3000 will perform, but I'm not entirely too concerned at the moment since I might just lead myself to a 1080p 144hz
can we talk about how i hate 16:9 on monitors
What's the matter with it?
Not exactly sure why it gets some hate from some people despite it kind of being a pretty common one overall
not what i consider a classical computer aspect ratio
16:10 was already established and was better
i guess "fuller-than-full-hd" took up too much room on the packaging?
you all cheer the multi use case benefits of amd's more cores approach
16:10 was better overall because it had more vertical pixels
yes movies didnt use them but almost every other task is better with more vertical resolution; webpages, documents, probably even more
probably because most things trickle down to home use
only reason why 21:9 is a thing is because of the film industry
and id wager thats a similar reason why we have 16:9
they used it for whatever reason, and now we use it because they use it
It's ugly as shit
Not the first one
The one Dem posted
Really kind of,
Unattractive
There's clones of the Conquer which is kind of funny
Antec, we'll just tilt it the other way no one will notice
Looks like it's constipated.

That's even worse
Oh the entire chassis just slides out, that's kinda cool
what does it transform into?
Can we have a case where there is a component we can take out the motherboard and part of the case so we don't have to constantly take the MOBO out?
Honestly that'd be the best fucking thing ever
there is one
From that picture it looks like the Case just yeeted the computer tray out.
iirc
cooler master at computex 2018
showed a case with a removable motherboard tray
the idea being you could swap the entire system out to a new chassis in 30 seconds
Honestly it might be kind of uhhh
not sure if it ever saw the light of mass production tbh
Difficult with all the cables
seemed a wee bit pointless to me
Well
at least, in the sense of swapping chassis
Modular chassis is better I think
because you would only be able to swap it to a compatible chassis anyway
which limits you to chassis which dont exist yet
If you have a difficult thing to put in, like the fucking DRP4 or you need to remove and swap the CPU... could be a really good thing
Hah
i almost wouldnt mind one on my 680x
saves me from trying to pick this thing up
things massive and weighs a tonne
The DRP4 won't ever need to be taken off if you're switching cases, since the motherboard and the GPU just gotta come off
Unless you're kind of needing a different mobo for a different CPU
Swapping Mobo, Swapping CPU yeah either way
so i just looked at my front dust filter and saw a gigantic dust bunny on it
guess its probably overdue for a clean
Time to wipe 'er down
literally did
didnt even bother turning my computer off
probably a mistake, but here i am
how dare you
how could you do that to a computer
ketchup and mustard
disgusting
Not my computer
There was one with cockroaches in it
Ketchup and mustard was your concern?
xD
There was one full of spiderwebs and dead flies, spiders, etc.
I'm more concerned with the spider that seems to be living inside there
This is a spiders all expenses paid vacation to a resort
Always hot with cool evenings
Its actually probably just hair, but its not impossible
Hah
I'm just surprised how they even get in
Course, if you left it in some place for like, a good long while
Eh it can crawl in from fan unoccupied vents or when your PC is off.
Then sure
Lovely
What about a smoker's PC
Lovely, amazing dirty yellow hue
How to color your PC the Smoker's way
In addition to the usual dust, there's the cigarette tar
What if the Spiders are also Smokers?
Hm
Wouldn't those spiders get fried if the pc was actually turned on
the air might get a little warm, but the spiders themselves would still be ok
i'm more surprised that was their chosen spot to settle, i'd expect food to be scarce
I want to upgrade from my rx 570, any suggestions for a gpu ยฃ200 - ยฃ300
Do you have a preference form what company you get it from?
actually 1660S is better choice compared to Ti. Only 2-5% slower and cheaper
i dont really have a preference, im used to the radeon software but i imagine id be fine with nvidia
The 5600 XT is on par with the 2060 while being a bit cheaper, though I'm not sure if its worth upgrading atm since new video cards are on the way by October. Though it might only be high end offerings that come out first
Most of the cards we see now are gonna drop in price as soon as the new releases comes out.
IMO it's not really yet worth to switch now. If you can live with the performance of the rx570; I would wait another month or two cause prices will likely drop
the jump in performance from the rx 570 to a 1660 or 5600XT is not huge I think
Actually its a decent 40 - 50% leap with the 5600XT I want to say, Something like 35% if its the 1660 Super
Or no its more like 50 - 70% with either card
I was thinking of the difference from an RX 580
Thats a lot wow
yeah the rx570 kinda succ
I mean, it does the job for me
I'd still like a card that gets me 144 on high
esp. with gtfo
yeh im just trying to get good performance on good graphics for gtfo, tarkov etc.
The case arrived today.
What case did you get?
O11 Dynamic XL.
Its ROG certified
Republic of Gamers, its the Asus gamer brand
I think I have a problem though with the build, not enough addressable RGB headers.
I was telling you to get splitters for the headers the other day
There's only 3 on the motherboard
3 ARGB headers?
That's right
Oh, I thought there was only one.
Oh okay I suppose the one of the right is the only addressable one, the other two are just RGB?
A is non-addressable.
What the hell is the difference?
Non-addressable means all the LEDs have to be the same color,
Addressable means you can have more customization since you can individually set each LED a different color.
What is going, is this real Shawn? Sentences ending with a dot and not a questionmark ๐ค
i think he managed to download google into his brain
The worst thing about the XL is the goddamn stupid โROG Certifiedโ sticker
Adds $50 to the final price
I'm going to cover that with something else. XD
Pretty much like โyeah itโs rog certified itโs a million times better than your Lamborghini case hahaโ
Arr Oh Gee.
You canโt really cover it without not liking it really
You can't have RGB in your Cougar Conquer, it just doesn't look as cool ๐คช
Arrr, Oh Gee the sharks ate me legs off mateys!
Do they make addressable RGB header splitters?
connect the thing to the thing, not to the other thing
So the front panel has an ARGB controller apparently
The what to the what
Maybe everything goes to that
Why are fans called "rgb fans" and not "cmyk fans" which is more true with the colors
Because marketing
Because CMYK doesn't sound as good as RGB.
Its always marketing
CMYK lacks that distinguishable whiff of pretentious marketing.
My case has RGB
Cyan Magenta Yellow, who likes those colors
Itโs black because yes
Could I use this for more aRGB headers or can this only be used with coolermaster products?
https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/rgb-accessories/argb-led-controller/
The only way I've ever been able to make RGB work aesthetically is to build a rig that's all black insides, and occasionally change the backlight colors
What should I use to get more aRGB headers? A splitter cable or another controller?
White cases on RGB ainโt that bad if you can pull it off right
My personal problem with it is my RGB can't be tacky, but it also can't be distracting
And so far, all the effects I found or tried to make up were one of the two
Perhaps a nice, not too bright shade of purple, or a slow fade of a select few colors that are nice in aesthetic
I say you should add as many RGBs as physically possible @torn ferry
Take this SSD for examble
RGB Barf. ๐คฎ
70+ RGB's on this SSD
I didn't get RGB SSDs.
That's a SSD?
I didn't think I needed those.
It looks like the CPU.
What I am saying is RGB lights = heat
make sure your set up can handle the amount of RGB lighting you are aiming for. If not your computer will be bogged down.
Who needs RGB when you can install an infinity mirror instead? ๐
Will this destroy the aRGB header if too many amps or volts goes into it?
https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/rgb-accessories/argb-1-to-5-splitter-cable/#Specifications
Could you check if the case has an ARGB controller?
Cause the product page suggests it might
I'll go read the manual too.
Presumably you would be able to chain controllers together?
I don't see any mention of a controller in the manual.
Oh I see cause the front panel has an ARGB strip on it
But on the product page, I can see where it suggests it.
You would be able to connect it to a header
Could I use that splitter I linked or is it too much voltage depending on how many devices I connect to it?
i dont think you run the risk of breaking something, but it may not work if the header cant supply enough power to the fans
The fans don't connect to the aRGB header though.
From what I can see, the Lighting Node Core and Commander Pro both go to USB 2.0 headers.
Guys I have a question. I have a notebook with a i7 from 2016, 16GB of ram and a Nvidia 920M (4GB of Vram)
I can play the game in the actual build with a PC like that ?
I can play games with similar requisites with an acceptable frame rate, but I tried GTFO in a previous build, and it ran with a 15 ~ 20 frame rate
Yeah it probably wouldn't be much better than that even if there has been more optimizations
Are there extension or splitter cables for if the motherboard doesn't have enough 3.1 Gen 2 headers?
There might be, but it isn't a big deal unless you really need all front panel USB ports
How easy is it getting the front panel I/O powered and functioning?
You just plug in the connectors to the front panel headers on the motherboard
Imo its a bit of a pain in the ass, but just read the instructions
Yeah it probably wouldn't be much better than that even if there has been more optimizations
@vapid crypt
But I played I while ago game called Desolate, and I got in the worst scenarios at least 30FPS. And the minimal requisites to play this game are higher than GTFO
The thing about minimum requirements is they're not exactly a science, and not all games really adhere to the same level of optimization
Its also best not to rely on a minimum requirement as it really only means "Yeah the game will run" Not "The game will be a decent playable experience."
At least not in most cases.
For that its best to refer to recommended requirements
Or at least more than what the minimum requires really
Do I need to worry about the virus being on the packaging boxes or am I fine?
No need to worry
Personally, i wouldnt worry, but if you want peace of mind, just open the box with gloves on
Then take the gloves off for handling anything inside
Cardboard virus? Dead in like a second kek
More parts arrived today.
Probably
I honestly dont think you need to worry
But peace of mind, just wash your hands afterwards
Yeah, it's kind of just wasting time for yourself to wait
Or wear gloves
^
I wash my hands for almost a full minute after handling anything that I think is contaminated.
The odds of anything being contaminated are actually fairly slim
But particularly at the moment, it certainly doesnt hurt to be cautious
So just follow the same guidelines as you would any other day
Wash your hands afterwards and avoid touching your eyes or mouth
So open the boxes with gloves, dump contents if able to without breaking them out on a clean surface, and then wash hands?
If you really want to go the full 9 miles, sure
I'll put it like this, as long as someone didn't spit on what you bought; you'll be fine
Yeah hahaha
Which I imagine no one would actually do that
In all honesty, the odds of catching it from a surface is probably a fraction of a percent
Yes
Unless you are going round licking toilet seats or some shit
A trend that actually happened
But then, you probably have bigger concerns kek
Is it a bad idea if I started building the PC with what I have now or should I wait until all the parts are here?
What do you have now?
Today I will have the motherboard, case, and M.2. I was also thinking of dismantling my current PC today to get the processor and graphics card out.
You still need the power supply and cooler right, so just wait for everything to arrive
Will the AIO have preapplied paste on it?
Cause for my thermal paste I ordered, it says "On its way, but may be late"
Uhh, then sure you can move it to the new case
And yeah, AIOs are supposed to come with it
I think it's only the Krakens that don't get it?
In the video of one of the installation guides though, the paste is in a square as opposed to a circle, is that normal?
Is the gray stuff above the copper the thermal paste?
https://gyazo.com/045ce1d6e36f6ad32560ea013a091ddc
Gray is thermal paste
And sure, it depends on the design I guess
If it's a circular copper, then circle thermal paste
Do I need a anti-static mat at all or is there no risk of parts short circuiting?
And I don't need to get an anti-static wristband to ground somewhere?
I've never used one, and I don't think my brother has either.
Parts over time have become better at not getting messed by static
If your case has a metal piece, you can touch it to get rid of static on you
I am also confused about what the bracket thing is for that has to be put under the motherboard before putting the cooler and processor in.
Uhh
Maybe I'm just stupid, I don't know. XD
Yea, and then you put it under the motherboard where the CPU socket was.
You put it on the backside of the motherboard
For the front, uhh
Same thing perhaps, or it'll be a different piece but same funtion
This still seems pretty daunting to me.
It's better than just the motherboard to hold it
I'm unsure if my PC will be alright if I ever do figure out putting it together OK.
How fragile are processors?
Like, do they break if you ever so drop them from like a 4 inch height?
Intel doesn't do pins
Instead, it's gold pads
Touching the gold on an Intel CPU is like breaking off a pin on an AMD CPU
Is it difficult to see the two triangles you have to line up when putting the processor in?
You bent pins
