CRT. Easy 250Hz at 600x400.

vapid crypt
#

I'll take a sharper image any day, but I'm still using 1080p as it is

stiff rock
#

yea i like 1080p, feels about right

sick reef
#

1440p is plenty sharp.

stiff rock
#

but let's say i want to run a 1440p monitor, would a 1080ti with a good enough CPU manage to run most games at 144 frames? Even by lowering grapich settings?

sick reef
#

You can go sharper, but it gets redundant to the amount of frames it costs

#

Ye

#

1080Ti will run them quite admirably.

vapid crypt
#

I would consider looking at its performance equivalent with their new architecture, the 2070 Super.

sick reef
#

Yeah, but doubt you can find 2070S as cheap.

#

At least until late this year.

vapid crypt
#

If you can find a reasonable 1080ti, that works well too. It'll certainly be cheaper

sick reef
#

Super card principally makes me royally super mad.

vapid crypt
#

As it should

stiff rock
#

ok last thing, i am aware that the multiple manifacturers have the same GPU, but which brand should i go for if i'd plan on a 1080ti?

#

or.. manifacturer should i say, not sure about the exact term

fading compass
#

Make sure you buy a used 1080ti lol.

sick reef
#

Beats me. ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking has a video on which PCB each card has.

#

And then which one of those has the best cooling solution can likely be found elsewhere.

vapid crypt
#

Most of em are fine, but EVGA, MSI, Asus typically seem to have good cards. There's tiers to their qualities though, but a lot of the time you're paying for an overbuilt cooler

sick reef
#

Yeah. As well as that you would prefer the FE PCB, but the 1080 TI has very few PCBs, so it's easy to distinguish from the video.

stiff rock
#

allright, thanks for your time and have a good one @sick reef @vapid crypt

sick reef
#

You too, Zyr.

median moon
#

i found a 1080Ti for <$200

#

probably mined to hell and back though

vapid crypt
#

That's what you have to ask about, what the card was used for. There's a level of due diligence when it comes to getting used cards

merry bay
#

Truthfulness is rare on ebay, all things considered. 200 bucks for a 1080ti falls into the too good to be true category. Unless it's an auction

vapid crypt
#

Their "pre-owned" price is at 450

dense wasp
#

Yeah that's scary

vapid crypt
#

So yeah a sub 200 1080ti was probably mined like crazy

median moon
#

yeah

dense wasp
#

I have a 1080ti that won't post at the office ๐Ÿ˜

median moon
#

sad ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

dense wasp
#

unused even.

vapid crypt
#

Wait a minute

#

That's a 1080

#

Not a TI

dense wasp
#

but I got it for free so I'm not really complaining, just annoying that it makes the whole computer not boot at all

median moon
#

wai-

#

HOly hell i just saw the top of the card

vapid crypt
median moon
#

Motherfucker is playing everyone

#

topkek

dense wasp
#

haha, so not ok

vapid crypt
#

Its an auction too

#

So someone might bid like 300 not realizing its a 1080

dense wasp
#

wtf are they listing the 1080ti for $1500 new?

median moon
#

everyone is listing new 1080tis for crazy

dense wasp
#

median moon
#

...some reason

merry bay
#

new 4790K's go for 500+, a product reputation goes a long way

vapid crypt
#

Its brand new, they don't make it anymore. So we can charge whatever we want for it PirateSimon

median moon
#

xeon platinum be like

#

$10,000

dense wasp
#

I guess I'm a bit damaged since I've been getting them for free, but still. Damn

#

humble brag and all

median moon
#

the most i got for free was pd2 vr

#

Which, mind, is amazing. Free VR games ๐Ÿ˜ณ

dense wasp
#

or free may be un understatement

#

I may have payed with my soul for the last couple of game-dev years

#

@merry bay weird..
But they are stable, the ones we use in all our computers up till now

sick reef
#

I had a 4790K that got sketchy after a few years

fading compass
#

Itโ€™s because they donโ€™t make 1080tis anymore lol.

#

So the new prices rise up. Supply and demand 5Head

median moon
#

demand should be a lot lower with Turing out..

fading compass
#

Actually supply and demand doesnโ€™t work here Iโ€™m an idiot

median moon
#

1080Tis are in kindof a niche

fading compass
#

People who buy 1080tis just buy em used now

#

I think used they are around 400~ which is pretty good

median moon
#

yes

vapid crypt
#

I've heard of people getting them for less than that, but rare exceptions aren't really the rule

median moon
#

callback to the $195 1080"Ti"

fading compass
#

Iโ€™m sure people have. But the average I think is around 400.

#

1080ti for 200$ when verynice

median moon
#

2027

they'll be dogshit compared to the new 8080Ti

vapid crypt
#

Uh this dude I watch on youtube got one for less than 400, at least less than 400 in USD cause he's a canadian PirateSimon Turns out the seller is trying to get rid of a massive stock from a mining operation though so its kinda of iffy

I want to get a 5700xt, but I also think I want to watercool someday, which card should I get? I the founders edition for block support?

vapid crypt
#

The reference model does make it easy to just slap an EK waterblock on it. Powercolor with EK did make a Liquid Devil, but tbh its like 599. You could go up a GPU tier if you're fine with air cooling as it is in that case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCZ5vOiVKj4 There's a review of it though

sick reef
#

If you're getting a block for custom loop, don't go expensive on it. get Alphacool, EK, or what ever is best, put their regular block on it.

#

Don't need a backplate as it'd make literal degrees of difference for the cost of better fans that would improve it more.

median moon
#

OH NO

vapid crypt
#

Not having chassis fans isn't the absolute worse thing though, but say having no fans on a radiator or heatsink now that's not gonna work phaWesker

#

And a 1050 is a pretty low power card as it is so

#

I believe there are models that are passively cooled with just a heatsink, and only draw power from PCI-e

late sorrel
#

there's a couple

#

has to be under 75w cards though

iirc that's the wattage for pci-e power

vapid crypt

I've seen a video of someone putting together a fanless PC nothing a little undervolting and a massive heatsink can't solve

jade ermine

most likely yes

vapid crypt

10 cores at 5.1ghz allegedly according to leaked benchmarks beats the 3900X... I mean that kind of makes sense then you realize that fucking thing is easily drawing close to if not more than 300w

meanwhile 3900X is chuggin' 140-150W

vapid crypt

Game performance won't be that much better comparing clock to clock to the 9900k, multasking and rendering will improve cause 4 more threads... I'm guessing since its beating the 3900x in Cinebench and what not they're gonna try to price it at around the same price point. Yeah Comet Lake isn't very impressive, its what Coffee Lake should have been in the first place. Hyperthreading across the entire stack, and presumably competitive pricing.

You missed a few screws for the motherboard

rancid kindle

I only got 4

So i did the corners

vapid crypt

Hmm are you sure, might be the wrong screws then

If its 4 it might be for screwing in the power supply

rancid kindle

They look exactly like the ones in the manual

And the other ones... barely fit

Hm

vapid crypt

I have no idea what screws come with that case, so phaSheva

My case came with more than was necessary I think

I'm gonna be getting the parts for a new computer soon :0

after all this time too, I'm excited

eternal cairn

What parts are those? ๐Ÿ‘€

vapid crypt

Linus can't juggle, he'll drop everything after the first rotation

eternal cairn

True. LUL

vapid crypt

That would be a sight to behold though, juggling CPUs. And they're AMD CPUs, so you risk bending the pins at any time PirateSimon

eternal cairn
#

It would be hilarious just seeing people's live reactions.

granite basin
#

1660 super, ryzen 5, 16 gigs of RAM 2terrabytes of hdd storage, 250 gig ssd 550 watt power supply. What's even better is that I'm buying some of the parts slightly used from my brother which toned the price out to about 658 dollars

eternal cairn
#

Ehhh... used parts.

vapid crypt

granite basin

granite basin

eternal cairn

vapid crypt

Even if it was 2 years old, a motherboard and a cpu isn't gonna go bad

granite basin

^

eternal cairn

They can though.

granite basin
#

I still would have said yes even if it was a year old

vapid crypt
#

Sure they can, but if its being sold you know... I would hope otherwise phaCrow

granite basin
#

If it doesn't work he would just keep them and I'd pay a bit more for new parts

eternal cairn
#

I just like getting stuff brand new since it comes with a warranty.

#

(Sometimes.)

#

But it's also because I like being the one to pull off the shrinkwrap, bubble wrap, plastic wrap, etc. first.

granite basin
#

Haha he's gonna repackage everything for me so I get the experience

vapid crypt
#

Everything comes with a warranty, how long depends on the company. Like Arctic has a 10 year warranty for their fans... though tbh with something as cheap as fans I wouldn't be too fussed just buying a new one

eternal cairn
#

A "re-unboxing" experience. coxKappa

granite basin
#

I'm just so excited cause I'll be able to play games at 60 fps for once

eternal cairn
#

I would if I bought 4 or 5 of the same brand fans and they all went out at the same time, @vapid crypt.

vapid crypt
granite basin
#

My current computer is a dual core and a 2 gig gpu

eternal cairn
#

I remember getting my prebuilt after upgrading from a semi-performant laptop.

#

Nowadays, people just talk about 144 and 240 FPS.

granite basin
#

My monitor is 60fps and I'm not that concerned with upgrading it any time soon

eternal cairn
#

Same.

#

Plus, the high quality monitors are expensive.

fleet canopy
#

144FPS has become more normal and easier to reach, with GPUs being able to do 1080p144hz for cheaper

#

Plus itโ€™s a nice bonus from the 60Hz monitors

granite basin
#

While I might get a new monitor, it's unlikely I'll try to run 1440p, the decrease in performance even if it's small would kill me psychologically

rancid kindle
#

Fan up or down

vapid crypt
#

Well 1660 Super isn't technically suited for that

Down with that case

granite basin

It is @vapid crypt

urban gulch

fleet canopy

Only 1440p 60Hz, Yeah

vapid crypt
#

It can do 1440

#

But not for long

fleet canopy
#

1080p 144Hz is fair

vapid crypt
#

Once games start needing a bit more Vram, the age will show

granite basin
#

I wouldn't say that, even a 580 could run 1440p for a suitable life time

vapid crypt
#

Talking future games of course

fleet canopy
#

Yeah, games are really becoming more demanding

granite basin
#

I would say yes and no, I've noticed alot more optimization aswell

eternal cairn
#

Eh, not really.

#

@fleet canopy

fleet canopy
#

Just today, I read on an article that apparently Ryzen 3600 was reaching 85% on some pretty CPU demanding games on some? Sounds pretty stupid though

vapid crypt
#

And yeah maybe I should get a 1440p monitor to run with my 580, it should do fine since I mean... the newest game I've played came out like a year ago phaWesker

eternal cairn
#

That's poor optimization though.

granite basin
#

Tahts just shitty game optimization @fleet canopy

#

That's actually sad

fleet canopy
#

I read it from an article lmao

vapid crypt
#

What games?

fleet canopy
#

I honesty didnโ€™t believe it too much

vapid crypt
#

Like Battlefield 5 or something?

fleet canopy
#

It must have been games that were really CPU dependent

eternal cairn
#

There are billions of articles on the internet. LOL At least a third of them are unreliable, half-true, or total bullshit.

vapid crypt
#

That game uses 12 threads apparently, granted how much of each thread I dunno

eternal cairn
#

Maybe it's a CPU culling factor.

fleet canopy
#

It used popular games from now, so ehh

vapid crypt
#

It didn't list the games?

fleet canopy
#

I didnโ€™t see

granite basin
#

I still fail to see why people like rtx in games

eternal cairn
#

Because it's new.

fleet canopy
#

RTX is pretty cool looking

#

Thatโ€™s all there is to it

#

Itโ€™s really sort of a major advancement in graphics

vapid crypt
#

Its only new so far as a specific method of ray tracing

fleet canopy
#

Itโ€™s a really neat feature tbh

vapid crypt
#

Otherwise ray tracing on its own has been a thing for a long time, the implementation for what you would expect is a bit weird though

fleet canopy
#

Yeah, itโ€™s been in like Pixar animations if I remember right

vapid crypt
#

You've seen the Battlefield 5 stuff with the reflections and what not, good lord

#

The fire looks like absolute shit in those renders

eternal cairn
#

So, ray-tracing is basically the equivalent of the resurgence of VR?

fleet canopy
#

But videogames werenโ€™t really doing it, more likely because it was hard to do without a GPU to handle all that shit

granite basin
#

See I'm all for rtx but just don't waste money thinking you'll play a bunch of games that actually incorporate it yet

vapid crypt
#

"Here's a beautiful reflection, and also the worst rendered fire ever."

fleet canopy
#

Haha

vapid crypt
#

Looked like a fire from the ps2 era

eternal cairn
#

3D animated movies probably take like 400 GPUs to render each cutscene.

granite basin
#

You'd probably be right

#

If I knew

fleet canopy
#

People can make a short blender animation in a day with a 2080 Ti

vapid crypt
#

Also framerates are gonna be lower

fleet canopy
#

Multiply that by uhhh

granite basin
#

I'd imagine they use psuedo super computers, but don't quote me on that

fleet canopy
#

Too many

vapid crypt
#

Movies are 24hz usually?

eternal cairn
#

^

#

I bet some of the animated movies are 30hz just because.

vapid crypt
#

Yeah so for modern gaming, the tech isn't quite there

eternal cairn
#

But it was back then.

vapid crypt
#

Its almost there though

fleet canopy
#

Itโ€™s alright, but it really needs improvement

vapid crypt
#

Well I mean like as far as modern expectations right

fleet canopy
#

Just has to be optimized more

eternal cairn
#

Now film producers probably use some insane level of GPU processing power.

#

I bet if you compared The Incredibles to The Incredibles 2, you'd notice a difference in terms of the graphics.

vapid crypt
#

Never got the chance to see Incredibles 2

rancid kindle

vapid crypt

There's a tray on the shroud at the bottom of the case, there should be some mounting points on the back

fleet canopy

The 3D printed makes it seem nice for a light green build lmao

vapid crypt
#

If you wanted to skip ahead, the 30 blade fan sounds like a jet engine and it immediately flies off and breaks after like 15 seconds phaWesker

fleet canopy
#

Hahah

#

So a single blade is the quietest then

#

sssssssss

vapid crypt
#

I don't think that would work, maybe 2 blades. Like a plane propeller

fleet canopy

Yeah I know haha

#

3 blades should be a minimum for all

Youโ€™ll get nothing much out of 2

vapid crypt
fleet canopy

vapid crypt
#

Well not right now anyway

sick reef
#

It is recommended to keep those drivers old, until they create stable one's.

#

So, the update before the end of the service life.

#

Or do a Windows and fuck up the entire OS with the last update before end of service life.

#

Like they did to win 7

abstract kite
#

The Most Stable Drivers Imo are the 19.12.1

median moon
#

@sick reef that was the point iirc.

jade ermine
#

These new AMD users...
You are supposed to use the oldest possible driver because it has aged the most

FineWineTM

sick reef
#

No, it's almost never the point.

#

As they had given options to people to get a longer service life.

median moon
#

it was their point

sick reef
#

But if it tested, on the other hand.

median moon
#

they wanted people to upgrade

sick reef
#

That I very much doubt.

median moon
#

so they fucked win7

sick reef
#

It's not in their interest if they are supposed to still support the product regardless.

#

And the probably still have to fix it.

#

Otherwise I'd see it as likely as well.

#

But more likely is negligence.

#

They didn't properly test it, most likely.

eternal cairn
#

In all fairness, people had a lot of time to get used to Windows 8/10.

#

Don't know why people still use Windows 7. ๐Ÿค”

merry bay
#

Maybe because win 7 wouldn't forget settings after updates, break as often or have as many obscure issues.
If my chipset had drivers for win7 I'd still use it.

vapid crypt
#

Funny thing, I had the most issues with 19.12.1

abstract kite
#

Same @vapid crypt

vapid crypt
#

Like even if Nioh worked on it, for whatever reason the driver would just crash when running that game. I went as far back as 19.5.2 I think and it still crashed. That game just hates old drivers or something, or maybe it just hates my card with old drivers I dunno phaWesker

#

Had RE2R randomly crash the drivers on 12.1 iirc

#

Though that's where the problems mostly end, black screen with Binding of Isaac and Minecraft sometimes

@median moon if they intentionally fucked win7 they would pretty much be apple with their older phones... which has consequences

#

Depends on what you are plugging in ;)
HDMI usually doesnโ€™t get you over 60hz for instance

#

DisplayPort, the one you are holding, does

vapid crypt
#

HDMI 2.0 which is typically what's used now gets you up to 120hz

rancid kindle
