lol
Heh, yeah I was talking about 6 core Xeons you can find on Ali Express specifically
just sad that a 28 core xeon still retails like $9000 on amazon.com
intellll
Still love this
@strong whale you know, funny that you mention that CPU
oh?
My work is considering upgrading from dual xeons w/ 18 cores each to that exact cpu, dual xeons with 28 cores
in 80 servers
eek
if xeons weren't so overpriced they would still be relevant with threadripper 3000 series, other than price xeons are still great processors
i mean even the high end 10th gen processors got a price slash by 50% which went to show how much price gauging took place
I'm getting this server soon, going to be fun setting it up.
Dell PowerEdge R730XD Server | 2X E5-2660v3-2.60GHz=20 Cores | 192GB RAM
will be hypervision as a core, then a bunch of VMs
split between prod and dev, a few SQL servers for replication and failover, one VM for my plex media server
running some web services like bamboo, jira, confluence, grafana, some websites i have
Gonna be honest idk what some of the acronyms here even stand for lmao
their a bunch of developer tools. most of the OS's will be unbuntu, with a windows OS for a media center
so pretty much certain partitions of the server will be running different servers and tasks?
yup
interesting, never even looked up what setting up a server is like, all i know is that when they have problems the fun ends
a physical server that is
heh.. yeah i do production support at work so my job is to keep about 300+ servers working for a high profile application
damnn
are you usually just doing maintenance or do you help out in other areas too?
so we have dev teams that create the applications, but our production support team does the setup/installation/support of it all. so making sure they don't run out of disk space, or memory, restarting services/apps or the servers to keep them healthy, monitoring logs, preventative maintenance and monitoring to detect issues/prevent them.
then of course if something does break, fixing it or engaging the dev teams to dig into the apps code or writing new code to prevent a bug in the future, etc.
ahh so this isn't the only dev team you work with
talking about GTFO?
yeah
ahh.. gtfo is all personal. I do it on my free time outside of work. my day job is what I've been describing above.
the server I mentioned getting (20 core, 192 GB ram) is a personal server
20 core?
yeah the server will have 20 CPU cores. Like most peoples home computers have between 4 and 6 cores.
i thought what you had is 18 core xeon and upgrading to dual 28 core or something
ah ok
The amount of time and effors d0cs puts in to this server makes it seem like he does this full time though @strong whale

it's not.. that bad 🙂
😏
I've heard of people 3d printing mouse shells.
Wonder if I should get a dude to do it for me
Yeah no thanks dude.
no lol
That box looks massive Next to the temperature regulator
is this channel exclusively for pc building tech or can i ask a question about an issue i got?
install corrupted?
what's the bsod code?
had a guy in match the other day ask for the stop code etc. and said its a wireless driver issue
can check event viewer to get that if you didn't write it down
how do i do that
what's the make and model of your pc
type 'device manager' into the windows thing
^
i've been a console player my whole life so pc talk is alien to me
lemme see if i can find out
press the windows key and type device manager
you want 'network adapters'
all i now is its an Acer Nitro 5 laptop
Windows updater?
on all of them
H m
Download Acer support drivers by identifying your device first by entering your device serial number, SNID, or model number.
Go here, search for drivers
this is what i got
a vid i watched also had that qualcom thing and reinstalled that
am i just missing something?
probably not
go ahead and click the link from D0c and you should be able to find the network drivers you're looking for
like underneath?
it'll look something like these
oh
yeah on a label somewhere
yup
Download new and previously released drivers including support software, bios, utilities, firmware and patches for Intel products.
Download that and run the installer, let me know if it installs, which should update your wireless driver
awesome, then all we can do is wait and see if you get more blue screens
okay i have a ? my cpu/gpu are running at 99% sometimes and i have to restart pc in order to get them to go to lower then 15% what could be causing them to do that (when it does games and stuff even youtube get laggy) also drivers are uptodate 32gb or ram btw
Please ping if u respond to this Thanks for the help in advance
@snow hamlet Did you check task manager to see what might be using cpu/gpu resources?
nice
I had that one in the far right
I gave it to my brother because he was going to a nerf war
Everyone wanted him on their team because they only had tiny little nerf pistols vs chad nerf lmg.
@median moon DUDE I'M SO EXCITED FOR YOU
@abstract kite the vulcan is ironically one of the most god awful nerf guns i've ever owned
i could throw a nerf dart more accurately than it could shoot one
@abstract kite only took like 3 months but here we are
take the nerf guns and build it out of them XD
Nerf gun case
We're all rooting for ya here
Ryzen users chanting:
one of us!
one of us!
one of us!
imagine someone distracts you so you shoot them with the case
that actually
hrm
i actually have a sick idea for a case
it's like any other, except you can open the side panel to reveal a universal holster for firearms.
in case of emergency to the extreme

a month ago i was deadset on an i9.. lol
The 3800X will serve you well
LOL
I just want to afford a 3950X
My 3700X treats me well already tho
so I don't see a need for one just now
i know im behind with my 2700x but its still pretty good
im just mad i got it right before the 3000 series came out without thinking
2700X is still a good chip
You could probably upgrade to a 3000 series chip for cheap when 4000 drops this year
3700x isn't that much better for the most part, just better power efficiency, takes advantage of faster memory, etc, but for game performance and such it isn't a massive difference for the most part
true but im probably upgrading my gpu first considering im still running a 570 8g
like 10-15% better game performance usually
@primal herald whuts ur budget
rn nothing cause of college but in a couple months im thinking of a 5700xt or 2070 super
yeah im just hoping that with the release of the 3000's the 2070s may drop a little below the 5700xt. if its vastly better then id think abot getting a 3000 card
dont get AMD GPUs in their current state
holy balls they are more inconsistent than rainbow 6 hitreg
Nvidia can drop prices any time they want, but with no competition in the high-end (yet), they have no need to sadly
yep, here we are today with only two major competitors, not counting intel just yet
@vapid crypt yes at times it would be the game and at times it would be youtube and or google and times it would be discord so not to sure whats going on
in the graphics market that is
intel is struggling to migrate to 7nm as is
for the better part of 2020 intel will just be AMD's punching bag, everything amd gains is a loss for them
goodbye intel 🎷
wooooo
@snow hamlet That's rather unusual, have you tried scanning for Malware?
anybody who can suggest which motherboard would fit into a setup with i9-9900k and 2080ti?
Hm
InfiniteXpositionToday at 7:24 AM
@Voxel Unfortunately company's like ATI and 3DFX have since gone out of business the graphic's processor landscape was far different in the late 90's and early 2000's.
@abstract kite just FYI: AMD has bought ATI in 2006..
What size? ATX? EATX? ITX? @stiff rock
i'm quite ignorant on such topic, all i know is that the rig i'll make in a while will have those 2 components. I was going step by step to have an IDEA on what i want, and after that talk with a tech guy and go from there @fleet canopy
and yea, third step was the motherboard, which i'm still informing myself about
That’s all you know? Haven’t planned anything else?
There’s always some benefit from motherboards you could use
Or if you want to get 32GB of RAM cause why not
oh yea, i do want 32gb of ram
and SO far yea, cause from what i've heard, the motherboard should be the third component you pick
i could easily be wrong doh
With a mention of CAS16 and 3200MHz at least
Preferably yeah
It is always second or third
Because having it first means you can’t choose the exact CPU you want it you just picked a random board
just to be sure, ASIDE looking at how much ram, MHz power and if it can fit an i9, do i need to check anything else?
again, just to have a vague idea. Whenever i'll be building it, i'll go to a shop with people that are licensed about those things
CPU cooler is a pretty easy choice unless AIO, could research it a bit to find a good one
Case will have to be big enough to fit your 2080 Ti and motherboard
wait what, you can get license for pc building
I mean, probably?
I just mean people that do it as a job
you know, those tech shops
and i think you can, yea
At least you know you aren’t doing it with a clueless fool haha
But I don’t think you need a license for that
had to work in those shops for some time. did not get any licensing 😢
Yeah it’s something anyone can learn and is pretty safe
to be fair, yea
You could too. Benefits in fun and cheaper option
that could be your task, find some mainboards you like and present them here. some people can give their opinion about
What you’ll want is a board with Z390 chipset
Unless it’s another letter, but I’m fully certain it’s Z390
ty, i'll be doing my researches on that
I also have a problem. For a longer time now, whenever i boot my pc, it has the error code 98. I then reboot and it works fine. it's still annoying to always boot twice. What could it be. error code 98 doesn't really tell much on the web
I thought my ram defunct because I had expierence access violation and assumed it would start becoming defect. But I switched the ram now and same issue 😦
Error codes is somewhat a joke because it tells us literally almost nothing pretty much
finally someone 🙏 unless it's like error 00 then I fully agree
Error 00?
dead cpu
Ah, that’s neat to know at least
well I am not right I just saw. people solved it with bios reset
should I try downgrading bios maybe?
Maybe the OS website has some pdf of error codes or a list of it
Updating it might be a good option
it's an old mainboard; Asus maximus VII hero
i have the latest bios, and I remember this has started around with the newest bios
See about using the second last
asus has amazing bios changelogs:
2018/04/265.56 MBytes
MAXIMUS VII HERO BIOS 3503
Beta BIOS
2017/03/035.55 MBytes
MAXIMUS VII HERO BIOS 3201
Improve system stability
one line changelogs 🙄
guess I try the non-beta one 🤷
oh and about flashing:
Funny story how I killed a machine during flashing
I have a IP power switch. This switch does manage the power of your devices. It is intelligent and can sense if your device is online or offline. So when I flashed my bios it is "offline" because no internet connection. My power switched realized this and fucking restarted the machine while flashing. ofc it got bricked. Luckily it has 2 bios 🙏
Damn
it was very dumb on my side
Potentially interesting video for @finite sentinel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiCH2Lq9DcA
Fellow gamers my friend got a new pc and his cpu is kinda overheating
with only 3% use
how
The screenshot shows the CPU in heavy use though.
In any case, check if the CPU fan is working
Also try another program like default windows 10 system info or CanIRunIt program, it gives more information
Are there 4GB DDR4 sticks?
is the heatsink properly attached to the cpu for cooling?
omg 93c that cpu is gonna get fried
Cooler installation probably failed somehow. Tell him to remount it
would the temps get that bad from forgetting the sticker
What sticker.
Yea forgetting that would cause it for sure
Lmao my pc is still in the shop
Says its definitely the motherboard, he's seeing if its fixable or not
Motherboard... hmmm
I'm pretty sure MX-4 isn't conductive so I don't believe that would have been the cause of the motherboard failing
@merry bay the fact there is no thermal paste is even worse than leaving the sticker on it :/
@brisk badger error 98 isn't a major error, it is an error pertaining to usb/peripheral inputs like your mouse/keyboard while booting up
try booting without anyhting plugged into your mobo
peripheral-wise
otherwise, clear CMOS and possibly reflash BIOS
@merry bay also, if that pic is the actual cooler, those heatpipes are garbage 0.o
they need to be flat to cover more surface area with no air pockets (hence why thermal paste is used to fill microvoids in the cooler. But one of those pipes is stuck out beyond the others badly
@median moon Hype 😄
@merry bay your heat pipes should be more flat like these. Aligned nicely.
Yeah, that's kinda weird.
Why isn't it flat
Either 3 pipes are off, or 1 is.
Maybe it's just a stock image.
I wonder if anyone ever used a car radiator for water cooling
Probably, I have considered it myself
Wouldn't be too difficult to setup.
But preferably, you mount it on the outside with couplings.
You pull acrylic inside, convert, or not, the 3/4 into M16/M22, then put a frameconnection through the case, and a quick release on the outside, and then use rubber cables from the outside, or just soft plastic.
Prop up the radiator in a way that can detach, and you're kinda done.
Remember you'll need a ton of liquid.
I guess you could even more technically, albeit illegal, prop up a car AC, connected to an electrical pump, to cool the radiator itself.
You could even place the original fan between them.
@sick reef from the looks of the photo the other 3 pipes seem flush with each other, though as you said it could be a stock photo and not even the actual cooler in use.
Didn't Jayztwocents use a full-sized chiller filled with ice water and a fan one time? lol
@pallid cedar that photo was just a random pic from the internet to illustrate the sticker in question
@merry bay gotcha
I remember seeing Timmy Joe use snow to cool a 9900k that was something
Alright @desert oxide if you want to take a screenshot and send us it we can see what kinda hardware you have.
what do you want a pic of
The "System Information" you typed into your search bar for Windows 10.
Yep
And i5 Processor, not terrible, not bad. It says its a 64-Bit Operating System.
yeah i think so
had a few games make me install 64 bit java
or is that something different
Well of course not, its a laptop motherboard
whole thing was around $1100 i believe
That is a pretty nice card.
Yep that's right.
1650 is your discrete gpu, uhd 630 is your processor's integrated graphics
So what, she has two GPUs inside the laptop?
The GTX as a Main Display while the other handles Background tasks?
a lot of intel processors have integrated graphics, amd has a few aswell like the 3400g
so basically it can run some games in the absense of a gpu
on very low settings of course
thats good yeah?
never had the space for a full desktop
Ah
ITX as a form factor solves any space issue
Actually hell even Micro could have minimal space if you find the right kind of case
micro atx for slightly better clearance
Oh yeah I remember those... Linus has several videos about super small builds that can sometimes out compete huge builds.
hey, so can you hook up some tower stuff to a laptop and just extend what you can do?
No.
why not?
Only thing that desktop and laptop have in common is storage basically
because laptops have completely different mobos, cpus, ram, everything
They both use SATA/M.2 for SSDs and what not
ah
every processor you see today like for example the 3750x is actually Zen and not Zen 2 and has only 4 cores instead of 8
these are the laptop variants
although the upcoming 4000 series 4800H from AMD is going to revolutionize the laptop industry if all goes well
Can she harvest the GPU out of the Laptop if she wanted to?
GPUs nowadays are hella expensive.
Well its not the same as a desktop graphics card
technically but it will have no card with it which means no cooling
Shame
literally just the board and die with a fan
Its literally the GPU, it might be soldered on
Honestly just wait until Q2 and see what NVIDIA and AMD have waiting for us, Ampere and Big Navi are coming this year
Actually I'm not sure if they use pcie or something else
I'm getting a 2070 Super for my next build and that one component is just below half of the rest of my components combined.
that's normal for a pc build
It hurts lol
GTFO
Fawk Yeah 🤪 that's a good one
2070S is a phenomenal card
@desert oxide your Laptop is good, but for future reference a Micro-ATX Form Factor Case is great and cheaper-ish plus you get experience building a Computer and that is so fun.
5700xt or 2070S, both amazing cards
The 5700xt has stability issues with its drivers. Other than that it is a great card.
You could get a 5700 and do a XT bios flash :3
You don't have all the power stages but it's actually really sick
i'll keep that in mind thx
I don't want to risk bricking my build.
Bios flashes are sketch
but hey
open source hardware
5700ecksdee
AMD released software to help with Bios Flashing and it almost bricked on of the reviewers computers.
There's a number of models that come with 2 bios with a switch to toggle between them
That's why I said it was sketch Galerus
thank god for it too because it saves motherboard's lives when something goes wrong while updating the BIOS
Uh starts at 699
2080 super for like 10% better performance over 2070 super for like $200 CAD more, no thanks
Right, and considering that the 2080 Super doesn't have any more Vram that's pretty lame. I know it isn't everything, but its barely any faster; and like just a bit behind the TI
Only thing bottlenecking it is the memory
which even then memory can be overclocked a lot on high end graphics cards + it affects performance more than core clocks
So a Titan would be better?
Uh... I mean technically its better but at twice the price of the 2080ti while only being barely 6% faster in games anyway. At that point its value is for workstation with its memory bandwidth
oh i forgot that crap existed
that card only exists to make the 2080ti look like a good deal
Is the 2070 Super good as a Work Station and Gaming Card?
yes
Sure thing
Alright
i have a 2060 and it peforms like a beast for rendering
I mean, people still use gtx 970's in workstation rigs soooo lol
cough GTFO devs
You can use anything, the length of time is just hardware dependent
I'm probably gonna shelf my 5700xt and get a new GPU
I use a 2060
True
the RTX 3000 line is coming soon
Big Navi too
that too yeah
I'm annoyed I can't use any of the enhancing features of the 5700xt without risk of it crashing.
oh like image sharpening and such?
Yep
is this since the adrenaline drivers came out or something it's had that issue?
it's post processing, it adds extra tasks for the gpu while already under load
I don't turn that stuff on anyway, not usually worth it for most use cases even if it does work
so far amd's gpu features are mostly useless, more or less just a "because we can" type thing
They need to overhaul their staff with regards to their software, and focus on more important features. Like the encoder is literally unusable, so I've heard.
oof
never checked out encoding benchmarks on it yet, probably just unstable quality or something i would assume
CPU is always better for maintaining quality and stability anyways, most 8 core cpu's today will cut it
3900x and 3950x i think can easily handle slow preset on obs
For sure, don't really know the differences between the two. I suppose there are pros and cons, one thing I do know is that NVENC didn't get really good until they overhauled it with Turing.
Even with turing there's noticable quality loss when streaming for rapid movement, distant text, fine details, etc
I still believe in x264, just have a decent cpu and you're good to go
it was popular before since everyone has been using quad cores for over a decade. So you know as games started using more threads x264 was really lacking in that department for those CPUs
now having a quad core is a big oof
6 cores or more if you do anything more than gaming and office work
My only issue with streaming now is Comcast being bad, and dropping frames
So the build I will be building by the end of the month will be used to render things from Maya, Blender, 3D Aftereffects and so on. I am going with 16 GB (x2 8 Sticks) should I go more?
Hmm
Do you know how heavy those applications are on memory?
I have 32gb, 2 x 16gb c16 3200mhz
costed like $230 CAD
they're corsair lpx sticks
2x16 might be more useful if they're heavy hitters. Not because 32gb is any faster, but you have the upgradability to 64gb down the line.
do keep in mind the processor
if it's a 3950x or something similar, you'll need 4 memory channels
Ryzen 7 2700x
So x4 8 sticks
I have the 3800x series in my build.
still dual channel
you can still run a dual channel processor in 4 channel mode but you're missing out on a good chunk of desktop and especially game performance
like one time i tried it with my 1700 and i noticed like a 15% difference
i've noticed with amazon prices a lot of the time 4 x 8 - 4 x 4 kits are more readily available and cheaper than say 2 x 16
I mean 15% isn't that much
it is when gaming
watch a youtube video and set the custom speed to 1.15, you'll notice the difference, poor example but still
now that's rough
I’m tempted to get a 3950,
But since im mostly gonna run gtfo tests on it, and other games, I guess it doesn’t make that much sense.
I will be future proof and it would be good benchmarks though.. haha
Well if that means you're gonna make GTFO scale up to 32 threads I'm all for it 😄
my headset is working but my mic wont pic up, is this a common discord issue?
Someone I follow on Youtube described the 3950x as a no compromise CPU. It is more than enough threads to handle any current level of multitasking. Its where you want to be if you want a long lasting system for good performance in absolutely every kind of task.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YAcIuXrMkE his review after using it for a couple months if you're curious about it.
I just come Into channel to drool over other people's builds and wishing I had the money to buy one
3990X is pretty insane CPU. Dutch review site got it at 4Ghz across 64 cores with custom loop
Scouting out those Dutch review sites huh 👀
All three of my stock fans broke.
Does anyone know what matters most when combining RAM sticks? I'm thinking of getting a 2x16GB to use with my existing 2x8GB.
I know CAS latency and speed of all 4 sticks have to match, but is there anything else that has to be considered?
Get the same exact RAM again or try to find a similar one with the same latency, timings and speed
I would recommend getting same exact RAM
And nothing else really. Just throw it in and you’re good to go
Funny you want 48GB but that’s just people’s choice haha
You’re probably not always going to find a bigger RAM for same exact stuff though
well they don't have to match
it's just that the speeds will decrease to the max of the worst stick
otherwise, you're good to go
Yeah, just be sure you're buying the right RAM
You can open up PCPP and use their searching option to narrow to the exact or closest as possible specs
I currently have these: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ybrcCJ/gskill-tridentz-rgb-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr4-3200-memory-f4-3200c16d-16gtzr
And these are the ones I plan on buying: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Dzw7YJ/gskill-trident-z-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3200-memory-f4-3200c16d-32gtzkw
Yeah that's good
Anyone have any knowledge on SSHDs?
How about the life spans?
Are they any better than the "death timers" in SSDs? Or do they still have those?
Solid State Hybrid Drive, yes.
yeah not sure
I've never really known much about them apart from the fact that they're a hybrid between SSDs and HDDs.
Eh, I guess. Supposedly, they're better than HDDs, but SSDs are still better than that. HDD < SSHD < SSD
Do your research on it pretty much ig
SSHD seems like a good option over SSD if you dislike the price
Speed of SSD, size of HDD
SSDs are still good though
Too bad there's no reliable way to compare or see different SSHDs like SSDs and HDDs on userbenchmark.com.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2XfFz83TDA Or LinusSexTips on TechQuckie can explain
SSDs are better still
TLDR: The more frequent files will load faster, the ones not so frequent won't load faster than an SSD
So it's basically learning what you use, and puts it either in SSD controller or HDD
Not really too good if you play games I guess
Unless you only play a few
Oh, yeah, then probably not a good choice for me.
Yeah
Just get an SSD for blah blah and HDD for games unless you can wack some money outta it
I'm still waiting for my 128 GB SSD to conk out so I can replace it with my 1 TB 970 EVO Plus.
It's mainly the load times get shortened on games
If you play them often, I'm guessing.
And it's especially good for open world games apparently?
Not often
Only for SSHD
SSD is load everything fast
Probably because open world games have to reload/re-render environments frequently.
Yeah
It's a lot better to get a 1TB SSD if you're only gonna run on 1 drive anyways
Can get a 250-500GB for windows though
And the 1TB for games and whatever
I still have my other 2 TB HDD which I use for games.
Yeah
I tried seeing what the difference was in loading times, and I didn't really notice much of a difference.
I mean, it's probably not too notice-able for you at the moment?
You have a 128GB SSD if you said
I think reaching the near max is what causes it to be kind of slower
Well, yeah, but I moved one of my games over to that drive to compare it.
Oh, probably.
Come to think of it, that might also be why Windows 10 is failing to install any updates.
But I have 20 GB of free space. 😦
Like I said, I got a 1 TB SSD sitting right next to me. I wanna see if my 128 GB SSD conks out before I use my new one.
😓
I'm glad I never paid for this drive.
50$ average
Oh, that's not bad.
2.5" 1TB SSD drives comes for around 70$ ish
Wow, they've really come down in price.
Indeed haha
I wonder how much a HDD is now... 🤔
1TB 7200RPM is like 30-40$
My 2 TB is the same thing for that price.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/w27v6h/western-digital-blue-250gb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-wds250g2b0b I've heard good things about Western Digital Blue drives, not a NVME though
HDD may have come lower
It's been a while since I checked last time haha
I did buy a WD Blue, but I sold it to a friend who said he needed it. 😖
I don't know much about the color difference on WD
65-70$, quite expensive
But good for just windows and basic stuff I guess
I know Blue is better than Green, Black is better than Blue, and Gold is better than Black.
I think. I know Green is the lowest.
WD Blue HDDs are mainly used for general purpose storage, they are great all-rounders, and an average user can't go wrong with Blue. WD Green is basically same as Blue, but it lacks a bit of performance. ... WD Red is a NAS drive. It's optimized for NAS systems. WD Purple is for surveillance.
No black in there though
I never heard of those colors. 👀
Yeah I assume not
They probably only give to surveillance people/manufacturers
NAS is uhh
For D0c

D0c the NAS Man
With DND on. LUL
Ah
Here we go
WD Blacks are for pure performance including gaming, media, and content creation. Also one of the most expensive HDDs.
**WD Blue HDDs are mainly used for general purpose storage, they are great all-rounders, and an average user can’t go wrong with Blue.
WD Green is basically same as Blue, but it lacks a bit of performance. However, it is the most eco-friendly HDD, and it’s quite cheap.
WD Blacks are for pure performance including gaming, media, and content creation. Also one of the most expensive HDDs.
WD Red is a NAS drive. It’s optimized for NAS systems.
WD Purple is for surveillance. Advised for 24/7 operation.
WD Gold, probably the most premium of all. Made for a multitude of Datacenter-specific applications.**
Eyyy, I was right.
Haha
So yeah uhh
Black seems only for those other kind of shit
But ehh
Windows and basic shit loading is good I guess
Daaaamn
My next HDD will probably be another WD Blue, unless the price of the Black has dropped significantly.
170-400$ for a fucking WD Black 1TB NVME M.2-2280
Oh, never mind, then.
._.
Ugh.
Their hard drives better last forever for those kinds of prices though.
Not too bad prices for blue
SSDs*
SSDs last a shitton longer than an HDD
And can survive an accident
Like falling it
HDD go bye
SSD lives
Probably
Wouldn't it be nice if we could see a little countdown timer that indicated how long our drives have until they die?
I know SSDs are less easy to break
I heard SSDs get a set time until death?
Not sure though
Yeah, I heard that too.
Doesn't really seem that right
I've had my SSD and HDD for 3-4 years now.
Neither have conked out yet, but my laptop's HDD conked out after 5 years.
Theoretically, hard drives are supposed to last forever.
LUL
I wonder what the warranty is on their drives.
If it's the standard 5 year warranty, then that is bullshit.
Every WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD comes with a 5-year limited warranty, so you can be confident of your storage when you upgrade or replace any of your drives. ¹ As used for storage capacity, one terabyte (TB) = one trillion bytes. Total accessible capacity varies depending on operating environment.
Yeah, that's bullshit.
lol
It should be a 10 year warranty.
It would be nice to see if Destiny 2 loads any faster on my SSD.
Anything loads faster on an SSD than on HDD
Destiny 2 is 100 GB and it takes 5-7 minutes just to load into a social space (at least on console).
But to get an idea of the performance difference an SSD v HDD speed comparison could reasonably show, a standard SSD can read sequential data at a speed of about 550 megabytes per second (MBps) and write it at 520 MBps. In contrast, a fast HDD may carry out sequential reads and writes at just 125MBps.
at least it's not destiny 2 original xbox one load times
Haha I never heard of those
Oh, I have that. LUL
ya idk
You're not talking about the original Xbox console, right?
Yeah the new one
no i worded it bad
Were you talking about models or generations?
Ohh, then no.
I remember having the original Xbox haha
Same.
Halo Combat Evolved is one of the games I remember
Nothing else surprisingly
I still remember the menu too
Cherry on the tip of edginess.
I think I could play Combat Evolved on my Xbox 360?
Didn't know that was included in MCC
Thought you'd say get an emulator
LUL No.
Master Chief Collection also has the anniversary edition of Combat Evolved.
oh yeah
was gonna find out if im doing something wrong because im getting 60 frames on lowest settings
with 1070 and intel core i7
On GTFO?
ye
What CPU?
Task Manager?
Performance tab.
"System Info" on search thing
Click on the windows logo menu on bottom left
Type it in
And then open it up
It should tell you CPU right away
You remind me of the days I had my i7 6700k.
Haha
And those days weren't too long ago.
Rip overclocking.
lel f to oc
just seems like im getting unusually low frames
What's your GPU like?
Oh, same.
Is it a 1070 or 1070 Ti?
But I meant @weak gust.
just 1070
Ok
Just a 1070.
nvidia
4 GB.
Yeah, it should still run alright
I tried the user benchmark, and it said mine was underperforming somehow.
What's your RAM?
Mine or Edgar's?
same place?
Yeah.
16 gb
How much storage space do you have on your drive(s)?
I wonder
just reinstalled the OS so there are no other programs affecting it so idk
maybe nvidia drivers but they're up to date
mmm
available physical memory is 5gb idk if that's normal

Uhh...
That's nothing
yeah uhh
That's the amount of RAM not being used
And you don't have the game open right now?
nope
Installed Physical Memory
ye the installed is 16
Check your memory in Task Manager.
available is 5
Yeah, that sounds bad.
What the hell is using up 11GB
yikes
Yeah I knew it haha
I have the perfect fix.
yes pls
CleanMem.
task manager it
No, it's a program.
No
k
then we can see it
This is task manager
what's the big app
Task manager
Use Task Manager to End Task Manager.
search by highest to lowest mem usage
LUL
steam is using like 2 mb in the background
2 gb
Use Task Manager to end my PC's suffering.
maybe just a bunch of background processes
They barely are close to 1GB
Like I said, download CleanMem.
ye cant find a good looking download site
bruh
Although I don't let it set a scheduler.
I just manually click a button when I have the program open.
yeah what
And it brings your memory back down to like 20%.
Although it could be a real website
I've been using it for a while now.
Not now though, but it sounds like a good name for it tbh
Looks like RainMeter
k
Never really found a way to fully use RainMeter
ty
I've yet to learn more of it
What is RainMeter?
Discord Canary

linux version
Chrome Eats a Stick of RAM by itself... what even
microsoft edge is just
Hm
Hey man I hear Australia is Lit this time of year.
Yeah
Microsoft is on the Edge of defeat.
Sounds like a great place
edge uses almost 1gb with 1 tab
🤢
6GB of 24GB used atm, hm
I love CleanMem.
I love and hate chrome
Firefox is great, but I have all my browsing data on Chrome.
Seems like a simplistic look for me tbh
Indeed
Plus, you can change the theme of the Chrome browser.
Cr0m
Someone needs to make a new browser from the ground up, not using any base from any other browser that isn't bloated an s doesn't eat RAM
I love my dark mode Chrome.
that would be cool
there's probably an open source one somewhere
also I made the switch to firefox more recently & it's nice
A browser that doesn't eat ram, sounds like a fantasy
Oprea
I believe that's Opera GX
Opra
Plus, I got most of my chrome shit to Firefox
Oprah?

Firefox uses about the same as chrome I've found
First "GAMING BROSWERAJWIHAO"
Its a "gaming browser"
What
generally less though
Whatever that means
What the fuck
Sounds like marketing
depends on how bloated you make your chrome
I mainly use Chrome because most of my Tampermonkey plugins were made by me for Chrome.
Adblockers bloat your Chrome.
I'm committing to the FOSP
chrome officially uses 1/9th of what edge uses
Change that meme to 16 GB and 64 GB.
I'm pretty sure Tampermonkey is on Firefox extensions
That's a lie >:(
I meant Greasemonkey.
G00g is RAM eat
Chrome is eating 6 GB of my RAM right now, though it has been running for a month straight
free & open source is good!
OMG
My firefox is using just over 800mb
I thought I was the only person who does that, @void perch. 🤣
About 30 tabs open
Plus closing it would just mean his work go fuck
chrome using 140mb but i just opened it
Opera GX looks like
I actually close my tabs though
just have a couple pinned
Haven't restarted my pc in a month. Last time it was up for 80 days
Overclocking, statistics on PC parts and a web browser in one
694,000kb
Fuck Opera GX
It looks just like mine, @abstract kite.
I don't trust it anymore
I don't trust Task Manager.
It says my PC is only using 50% of my memory, but I don't buy it.
it's back down to 444,000kb
Hm
This is from a month ago...
Hot
my pc has only been on for 1:53
Closing YouTube tabs helps with the memory issue.
I'm gunna pull a d0c though
Literally and figuratively hot.
put it to sleep
How big is your RAM size again?
I don't even put my pc to sleep
64?
oh
you just turn your monitors off?

48 GB of ram @fleet canopy
You make me want to steal some of your RAM, D0c.
My server is going to have 192 GB of RAM @eternal cairn
Yeah 26% average usage on mine
Want some?
I'm using 1/3 exactly
48 GB would be wonderful.
Hm
Then I can finally render 2k60 videos in After Effects in 2 minutes.
What is that Rainmeter?
Anyways I'm going to bed. Ciao later guys
nope
Some Linux
What is RainMeter?
Rainmeter is something for Windows
came with the os
Makes shit cool
haha, imagine using windows
Is it like Wallpaper Engine?
Yeah
Imagine using Windows 7.
No need to imagine as I am using it
nerds
You can have it set to show music, a bar that'll go asdaga on sound like Monstercat videos,
Now imagine pirating Windows 10 Pro.
