The devs will already encourage content creators to make videos and stream the game including during the beta. I guess they could also do streams themselves but it wouldn't get them as much attention as the former.

How about having a content creator stream and have some dev's commenting on it. Like screen shared or y'know how they sit in a room and drop tidbits of info and trivia.

@green forge , you can actually take info out of the trailers, gadgets are: c4,glue gun, sentry, life detector. A railgun is counted as speciaö weapon so far i remember from the gamescom
What i try to say is that gadgets are utility tools, there are primary weaplns and special weapons (heaver firepower weapons, but no mass destruction weapons)

I'm very exited for the game and I was wondering : do we know what the end game is going to be like ? A friend of mine is worried it would be as grind-heavy as Payday2 since he can't play very often ; and as for myself I'm interested in knowing what it could be.

There should be an end game, a never ending mystery is never fun
I don't mean end game as "the game has to end somewhere," on the contrary : what happens once you've finished the game. I'd love to play the game forever if possible ; but what will there be to do is my question. Will it be replaying the story over and over again with varying gear to try out new things ? Will it be grinding missions to get incredibly rare loot to drop ? Or maybe something else ?
Payday 2's end game was to grind for an incredibly long time to get all the perks you wanted, for example ; that is what the friend I was referring to was afraid of.
Creating an appealing end game is friggin' hard. Anything that a gamer would value as a reward for playing, takes time to create. You can't just have an automatic system that gradually bumps up the enemies' health and make the players grind to bump up their weapons' damage. Players want to see new weapons, new features, be given new challenges.
10 Chambers does not have the man power that the teams that make Destiny or Diablo games have. We can't create thousands and thousands of unique weapon designs and balance them all so that they're all rewarding to find and fun to play with.
Our approach for now is to have GTFO be a games as a service where we keep updating the game with new stuff - and since we only have to finance this very small development team, we hope that the money we get from the sales of the base game is enough to keep us going for a very long time. In other words, GTFO will keep rolling with new content being released continuously, and the idea is that you won't have to buy loads of DLC or microtransactions to keep it afloat, because the team is so slimmed and our tech allows us to put out new maps and stuff fairly quickly.
So, right now there is no end game planned, because we can't see how the game will really develop and how our business plan will pan out.
In our mind, we're very far from even needing an end game. But time will tell.
I think that's perfectly fair too. I've played Alien Swarm for 400+ back when it had no steam community support just replaying the campaign hundreds of time speedrunning it or whatnot. Having a reachable max state where the end game just become "gitting gud" at the game is worthwhile too. Learn to adapt to every situation, play every role or archetype, adapt to all of your friends... Personally, I think an endgame for the player (skill) is even better than an endgame for the game (gear/perks). Especially if the skill we acquire is put to the test with new updates.

@craggy pier I think that everyone agrees with that - and I'd go as far as to say that if you are rewarded frequently enough, it's not even fair to call it a "grind". But what I explained in my post above is that there's no plan to have a grind type end game in GTFO.
back then i didnt know payday 2 actually had a plot and that was why i drop out of it. But GTFO's backstory is interesting enough for me (so it seems) for me to "grind" to get to the ending

@lone nebula "Endgame" is what players can keep on doing perpetually in the game after they have completed the entirety of what the game has to offer in terms of story campaign or set challenges.

@mild ravine You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. There will be plenty of stuff to "grind for" but it won't be in the endgame - it will be in the continuous updates of the game.
Don't mean to be that guy to bring up DRG, but as we were Alpha testing we blew through the leveling and upgrading so fast the devs had to remake the game. So I feel there should be at least some grindey hindrance to just beating the game with sheer will

We don't currently see an end to GTFO, since we plan to frequently update and expand the game post release. An endgame would only be needed if we ran out of money and couldn't continue releasing updates for the game, and we're of course hoping that this won't happen for years.

Disgaea has a nice setting... You can clear the game without much knowledge of the game mechanics like Geo Panels, Throwing mechanic. But for the hardcore completionists RPGs fans, You have a HELLUVA Grind

Just gonna throw my 2c towards grinding while ignoring the idea of an end game, I hope the grind for whatever we need is fair and contains as less RNG as possible. Part of the reason I hated Payday 2's grinding was because the randomness to the point I installed some less-than-official mods to allow me to get coins to buy weapon parts or masks as progression (which was eventually added into the actual game in the form of continental coins.) Because sitting there with friends speedrunning Jewlery Store for literally hours just to get that one weapon mod, mask, or color combo just felt awful and a result of developer oversight and/or a shitty attempt to keep people playing for as long as possible.

GTFO is not a boss type of game. Making a good boss is like designing a game within the game - a short game segment against an enemy with its own unique movement pattern - often using the similarly unique environment where the boss fight takes place. Doing a good boss fight - like the boss fights in the Metroid Prime games - is really hard. You can't just make a bullet sponge enemy and call it a boss.
So we have high standards for bosses, which I why we have to be honest and say we don't have the manpower to deliver on what we consider a good boss fight to be.
Instead, we're focusing on putting a lot of layered challenges in GTFO and by mixing and matching these challenges (different enemies combined with different environmental hazards combined with different expedition objectives) we create interesting gameplay experiences.
And some of these combinations will be downright nasty. They will be like raids. So you could say these "raids" are the bosses in GTFO.
Re progression: Better weapons, better tools, a bit of cosmetics, and upgrades to some more elements we haven't revealed yet.

So continuing on from a question in #amba-gtfo-chat, will successful mission completion be required to get credits? If you/all players die and the mission fails, will gathered resources be retained or is it all wiped?

I’m guessing the devs won’t have a good estimated download size until they get a release candidate stuffed into an install package. I’d guess 25-40GB is probably a pretty good guess for this type of game. Download size also depends heavily on whether the maps are stored locally, or if you download them into a temporary game cache as you play the game. The Division 2 is over 110GB, Destiny 2 is currently around 85GB and RDR2 was around 90GB at launch, but those are obviously much larger AAA titles.
On the other hand, the procedurally generated ‘No Man’s Sky’ is around 17GB currently (was around 10GB at launch).

you know right before I got VR, I didn't mind it not having VR. It's ok, though, I'll enjoy it either way.
We have experience doing console releases and we are console gamers ourselves. Contrarily, we have never developed or released a VR title and we are not frequent VR users in our spare time.

The game isn't similar to Hunt or any other game like that. It's more like Payday 2 except you never go into custody if that makes sense.

Noop, I watched the 9-minute gameplay video (From September 208, mind you, things coud have changed in development) and I saw them revive one another, and I also heard them state that there are four playable characters. I'm not sure it would be like Hunt in a sense that if a character dies you lose everything. Again, this was months ago so things could have changed 🤷

@peak gyro GTFO's gaming experience is unique. I can't recall a game that has a similar gameplay. It's hard to compare the difficulty to games like dark souls, because the gameplay is far too different. I tried to compare it with the hard difficult of the roguelite "Immortal Redneck" shooter but it's a bullet-hell... GTFO is the exact opposite. "Splinter Cell" or "Thief" without killing but sneaking only might get close

GTFO is hardcore but not only because it's difficult - it's hardcore in its game design as well, as in not as accessible as broad market games. The focus on exploration, stealth, and preparation makes the game more slow paced than many other 4p co-op games and therefore maybe not super appealing to the typical casual gamer.
But yeah, it's hard as hell too.

nowadays the "betas" are more like a glorified demo of the game that is a bit before the game releases, but for GTFO it's going to be an actual beta, focused on testing the game and finding bugs/exploits and so on and improve the game, which after the beta they will take time to fix those bugs.

early access is basically an early version of the game, thats not fully completed or polished, but it can greatly help to get feedback from us, what we like or what we dont like, and the devs can take that into account while continueing to work on the game

Answer: Is there some other game that has that? We're not planning to do anything like that, no. It kinda goes against the one of the core ideas of GTFO and that is to make a game that is easy for a team of 10 (or less) to expand upon for a long time. If we had established this expectations in players to have those spectacular death animations, we'd have to add new animations all the time as we add new monsters and environmental hazards to the game (as they basically represents new ways to die). It would be tricky.
My question: In the Trailer (E3) we saw at the very end before the name popped on the screen that a player has been attacked by some kind of weird snake tentacle thing. So what is that? I heard that it is another moster / creature / enemy...

That's a super good question because I know in Payday 2, their last game, stealth was all vision based. Sprinting/jumping/etc. really just made your vision detection rate go up a lot higher. But it's not like your sound of sprinting or jumping ever made noise so that guards would go towards you.
But it being a completely different and fleshed out system in GTFO wouldn't surprise me

@static oyster now that online multiplayer has become so standard, implementing split screen capabilities doesn't make as much sense as it used to (mainly because it takes time to develop) since the game is strictly multiplayer anyway.
But also I cannot speak for the devs. But they've got a lot of dev to do and I don't know how high priority split screen would be.

So here's a question regarding difficulty. Something that I feel like almost no multiplayer pve games have pulled off successfully so far.
The game seems to rotate around the idea of the actual game being difficult (This may be true, not disputing that) but how will the game respond to those who can clear the hardest possible difficulty with relative ease. Despite all intentions not to let this happen (in other games), gamers have always proved this to be a seemingly impossible task.
I recently noticed that the devs answered to a question about a dynamically changing difficulty system, there response being:
*Answer: We are not very into dynamic difficulty modifiers. I feel that often they fudge the rules of the game to a point where you can’t be sure on why you failed or how to do to succeed.
I’ll be a bit vague here but If things go as planned we will play around with static-ish difficulty modifiers*
Fair enough, I think that answer is actually much better for the health of the game overall.
My question then is, what is the endgame idea here for when a good chunk (say.. 15%) of the playerbase at the top have figured out all the ways to handle the various difficulties thrown at the player (This is including the static challenges presented). Will there be an attempt to further challenge these players? If so, what methods are planned on being implemented? Harder difficulties, various modifier choices at the start of a match? If not, I feel like that's also a valid and acceptable answer, since the question I pose is unfair in the sense that eventually players will always figure out how to clear content.
Another way to ask the question is, how long do the developers plan on the content being difficult, will we get frequent updates to always up the game, or will it be kind of like the L4D2 model where, while difficulty spikes do exist, once they are all completed that is the peak of game difficulty
Mind me, me and my group of friends loved l4d2 so even if the answer to the question is that it will be like such, that's not necessarily a dissapointment
Oh, and another question from a friend who is concerned about it. This doesn't matter to me, but it does to him so I figure there's a small population at least who cares about this sort of thing.
What incentive is there to play in the game? To further elaborate, besides the simple idea of just playing to have tons of fun (This is how I view it), my buddy gets very discouraged if there is not something to strive for. One example is Apex legends and the apex packs you get for leveling up. At max level you can no longer obtain these, this was such a turn off for him that he actually made a new account just to continue receiving these packs.
So will there be something like unlocking guns, new classes, new difficulty modifiers, new maps, or anything of the sort to give players a sense of progression rather than being statically launched back to the beginning at the start of every round?
And just to be clear, regardless of the answers me and my group are all buying the game still, but questions like these do come up when we discuss the game amongst ourselves

When does early access start ?
@undone onyx The alpha tests will mostly be technical tests, to make sure the basic game features actually work, therefore there won't be a large focus on content. There's actually only going to be 1 mission in alpha stage one, and 4 missions in alpha stage two. It'll be very likely that people get through this content quickly. Check www.gtfothegame.com/roadmap for more info.
@azure rivet The game needs to go through alpha and beta first. Once these stages are done, the game will be released to early access. Since the devs don't know when these stages will be done, there's no set time window for EA release.

How did GZ turn out? I got in on the beta test last fall but it was during the Unity event in LA so I was traveling all through the test period and couldn't try it.
It had a very rough launch, like mostly negative to mixed on launch day rough. Mostly because it had a lot of bugs like robots not agroing onto you when attacking them from afar or even not agroing onto you sometimes when you walk right by them or up to them, bad progression that feels untested because you get everything quickly, and nothing to do in the sandbox. I haven't played it but that's what the reviews indicate are the most annoying issues

The main drive for us is to make something where it is okay to cater for a core audience instead of everyone. Coming from bigger projects with a lot of restrictions we want to be able to make design decisions that wouldn't fly in an ordinary AAA production. We also wanted to make something really good so we choose a genre that we know and are passionate about.

Creatively there are so many inspirations so I can only name a few.. The old alien swarm game for some coop mechanics, L4D for that core cooperative "juice" that still delivers even though it's old.. Alien and Aliens for mood and esthetics.. etc etc

I agree that there is always going to be a chunk of the player base that manages to go through every obstacle however challenging you think you are making them! This is both kind of awesome and can be a problem if we don't find new challenges to present.
We are thinking and planning a lot for this in conjunction with how we handle the expeditions. We think that we have a solution for both presenting new challenges and then to keep players motivated to come back, but this of the things that we haven't really revealed yet so we are saving this for a little later. Sorry :)
That being said, even though we have a plan for it we realize that this is going to be a challenge. We don't have team of 100 graphic artists producing a stead stream of new content so we are trying to be really creative on reusing and combining systems in what we think will give crazy challenges.

Regarding gameplay we have some overarching similarities for sure (go down, solve your objective, get back out again), but not so much in the details of the exploration, the combat and the puzzles.

I was looking at the roadmap, at "CLOSED ALPHA 1 - Network Test", below I saw the features you are working on. The roadmap hasn't been updated since the 18th March, will you update it every single time when one feature is finished, or update it when multiple features have been finished?
@rapid dock It will probably be a little different each time but those are big tasks and we are working on them in parallel so we'll mark them as done when we get there.
We could have added a ton of small tasks (optimize X, fix bug Y, create a tool to solve Z, design A etc..), but then it becomes such a hassle updating the list all the time, I think we'd rather have the bigger tasks to give you the big picture than having a huge list that is frequently updated.

@junior forge We're using Subversion on a file server with backup functionality. For us the choice was between SVN or Perforce and this time we went with SVN.
@craggy pier @mild ravine You collect commodities down in the Complex, that you can trade for weapons and weapon upgrades between the expeditions. So you're not going to acquire new weapons during expeditions that you can instantly use. This design decisions is in part because the act of modifying weapons will contain a bit of angst (you'll lose most parts of the weapon you're taking the weapon part from, and losing the part of the weapon you're applying the mod to) so fiddling with the weapons might take some time. We don't want players to stop playing mid-expedition to go into a menu and start fiddling with their commodities and weapons - that would be very frustrating for their teammates. So all of the weapon acquisition and modification happens between expeditions.

Hey there @gusty trout, official requirements are not currently out there as far as I'm aware. However, that being said, the developers have said themselves the following in FAQ point 3:
"We are confident that GTFO will be well optimized and not demand too much of your computer. In any case, GTFO is not meant to be a ultra high requirement, "benchmark test" sort of product. The development team uses computers from around 2014-2015 to play the unoptimized development version of the game and even capture trailer video footage (Intel i7 4790, GeForce GTX 970, 16 Gb RAM.)"
GTFO shouldn't be too intensive from this statement, this is all the public information available at the moment (as far as I'm aware). & this is what's being run before full optimisation as included within the statement. Hi there @safe wraith there are no requirements to becoming an ambassador. You do not need to sign an NDA, stream or promote the game for a certain amount of time etc. Anyone can sign up as an ambassador on their website, all you need is to subscribe with a valid email address.

Assuming this channel is just open to any random question we have. Do we have any idea how characters are going to work in GTFO? Will it be a create-a-character situation or will we pick from preset ones like in the Payday games?
There will be a set of 4 playable character, there will be no cameos, like for example someone from a other game
Not asking about the cameos, kind of figure that's a sore spot honestly, so I wouldn't expect it. I just wasn't sure how they were going to handle it. Do hope we get the priority system like Payday 2 though, was probably as perfect an answer as we could get to the issue where the character you want is taken.
Yea, maybe that would be a thing. but yea it is quite a horror Coop shooter so there won't be that much talking or shouting like in Payday2

Hello there other GTFO hopefuls. I have a question about the difficulty of the game (after reading the TL:DR of the AMA). The thing is, I'm a total potato when it comes to FPS games and while I'm expecting my friends to carry me, I don't want to be complete dead weight to them. What other things will there be aside from shooting and sneaking (and pooping of pants)?
decision making, keeping cool during intense situations (solving puzzles/relaying info while being swarmed by enemies), map and mechanics knowledge, metagaming. Shooting and sneaking are undoubltly important but it's not an fps like OW, you don't need to have the ability to click heads on enemies flying through the air. Sneaking anyone can learn to do well.
Okay, I'm pretty good at sneaking, terrible at keeping cool during intense situations though, maps are another thing I'm usually good at and mechanics. Nice, sounds like I won't be complete dead weight at least. 😃

Actually @junior forge, I think steam have discontinued four packs as I have just looked it up. So it doesn't look like there will be a four pack.
This has probably been asked, but does anyone know how sound will work? Like will sleepers react to the voip or only to ingame actions?

it was delayed from Spring to Unknown. They aren't providing any release dates until they are certain they can be reached. They don't want to promise a date then say "sorry, delayed again".

yeah, I get ya, they seem to be working pretty hard on the game to get a proper alpha/beta release so maybe they'll work on reloading animations along the way

Hey there @keen locust, the developers are not giving a release date until they can be absolutely certain that the game will meet the deadline, so no release date will be given and no time should be assumed until an official date has been given by the development team. You can follow their progress of development as Harold said on the roadmap which you can find here:

That being said, you can participate in the alpha tests of the game by signing up as an ambassador on their website. That way you can still play the game during these phases as all ambassadors will have access to the alpha playtests. If you haven't signed up already, you can do so here:
