GTFO will have player drop-in.
I had to literally make the heist unfailable to not get griefed in stealth. In loud, randoms were usually too bad at the game to finish something completely. So I stopped trying, and I never looked back.
Hopefully the community of GTFO is better, at least in personality.
@fast python stealth was just hard despite what others have you believe. It's why I eventually did public loud lobbies but only did private stealth with krong
Isn't hard to start throwing nades as soon as you spawn in, or fire your gun, or running literally straight in, or running straight for and into laser alarm.

I quit pugs because people just sucked at stealth lol
Rougly 1/4 people griefed. Roughly 1/4 - 1/2 people were bad. I don't fully mind bad, but I didn't want to hedge my bet further than my patience, so I just soloed.
Oof my experience was not that bad
I got a griefer once a day or so, but baddies? Def more than half. I'd have to kick people easily every lobby until we actually passed it the 6th time. So like 1/6 lobbies worked out.
It's why I just went private with krong. We'd pass almost everytime barring a fluke just me and him

Well they could DC to grief but in the end that would only really hurt them right? It is a loot based game so them leaving really only hurts themselves. I think if you leave the game (no matter the cause) you should lose all items/loot/gear that you earned. Perhaps if EXP is a thing then let them keep that only.
as for them breaking stealth or messing up well griefing and just messing up/being new/being incompetent are not the same thing. If people coming in just to ruin the game like Labcat said happens then a votekick option should be allowed.

I doubt it's worth the development time, literally one game has RTX enabled and thats Battlefield V.

I imagine someone will start a GTFO Wiki once the game launches. I have a few ideas kicking around in my brain for a sort of companion/prequel novelization based on what we know so far.
Hello I’m curious if this game is set up like L4D/Earthfall/Siege where you just choose maps from a match lobby? Or if it’s kind of an open world and you can explore and choose to go on particular expeditions (raids/maps/ etc) like destiny2/the division etc etc
From what I heard it's going to be more like a party system (public and private). It should mimic Payday within that regard, but you could relate it to LFD games within that regard (similar but different)

I'd guess they've been working on GTFO for at least 3 years, considering Ulf announced the game that would eventually become GTFO on January 24, 2016. Title and first images were released in May 2017.
As for funding? They probably still receive some money from Sony (Payday) and 505 Games (Payday 2), but no idea how that works.

Most the description are just "4 player co-op in a prison with monsters" which- honestly has me sold already. I'll buy it based on that and on the graphics /aesthetics alone.

We know there's team based puzzles. One involves you going to a computer console and your team mate has to communicate to the person what they need to actually physically type while fending off enemies.

Earthfall is a carbon copy of L4D, which isn't a large scope to compare it too imo.
GTFO is somewhat more ambitious because they're going to demand a lot of team work and communication to succeed.

this is a question towards simon and sound design, in the video that was posted in media chat how did you get/make that noise for the tendril monster?
@grand cloak The game takes place inside the underground Complex, and is anchored around the elevator that takes you down there and brings you back up. So every expedition leads through an isolated section of the Complex but at the end you'll get to an elevator that takes you back up to your captors who forced you down there.
I can't say how many expeditions there will be at release but I assure you that you'll get your money's worth - and updates will be free.

@vocal bridge It's a mix between a tremolo processed sample of a squirting water bottle, tremolo processed sample of mosquitoes and wet flesh slobbering. What sounds you hear depends on how close you are to the different parts of the monster (the sound is different at the monster's head and at the end points of the tendrils.)
The sound of the monster's voice is Ulf's voice, but heavily, heavily processed.
We did a ton of extreme voice recordings at @quick stump 's place.
it's amazing how creative you can get by using what's around you.
There's also a high pitched sound based on a sample of a beating heart but I don't know exactly what I've done to it to make it that high pitched and sustained.
So what you're saying is we need to get samples of all the devs' beating hearts to figure out the easter egg of the whose it is?

@craggy pier check faq for that answer. GTFO will be strictly DLC FREE when it comes to extra content. The only DLC is perhaps a "support the dev" pack that would be cosmetic/non-gameplay altering items.

We don't know much on how difficulty will work. Servers are peer to peer.

i have another question: after you pass a mission succesfully, how it evolve? you stay in the Complex and travel even deeper in the underground, or just simply start another mission?
Every expedition ends at an elevator that takes you back up "to the surface" (although you never get to see the actual surface, you're always kept inside the Complex to prevent you from escaping.)
Then, from the elevator, you choose your next expedition.

i dont know if you have played hunt:showdown, you choose there a character and lose it permanently, but you have a "lineage" system where you keep experience and can buy another using ingame cash. maybe the system you use is similar?
In Hunt, the characters feel more like empty husks that just harbor your profile data/progression. They don't talk much, there's no need for a deep backstory for the character because you're likely to lose the character soon anyway, etc. We've decided to make the characters permanent, so that we can make them more interesting and have them talk a lot with one another, comment on the surroundings, etc. We believe this will increase the atmosphere in GTFO a lot.

Can anyone tell me if the Expedition Director is a 5th player or just a game mode? A friend asked me if it was a 4 or 5 player game and asked me about the Expedition Director thing, but I've never heard of it and now I'm confused
I think you friend might have meant the Warden who sends you on expeditions

@craggy pier There aren't any skills in this game, your role in the team is defined by the loadout you bring. Your loadout consists of your standard weapon, special weapon, and a tool. Regarding loading screens, there might be loading screens when you wipe and restart an expedition (or at the last checkpoint) or want to go back to the elevetor to choose another expedition. I may have jumped the gun when I said there were no loading screens at all.

Sometimes a loading screen can also be a good quick breather/break for players, if things are getting too intense or riled up.
I know my friends get SUPER salty about the silliest things, so after a really bad or close failure-- a loading screen would give them some time to get all their B-word'ness out.

The commodities can, among other things, be used to gain advantages in future expeditions, or to upgrade your gear.

Statistics, yes. But you're not competing internally within the team for who collected the most of anything. But we might show statistics that reveal who was the most cooperative player - who helped others up the most, etc.

Actually while graphics look fairly dated there seems to be a really extensive work on lighting. Which makes sense since they're incorporating it to gameplay. I've noticed there are many unlit rooms in the gameplay videos so far. also there are some invisible monsters that slightly reflect flashlights, so it's the only way to see their outlines (besides motion tracker).

Are there plans to have a VR mode in the future? I have a friend who plays a lot of VR games and was wondering if there are any plans to have it in the future.
I don't know, textures themselves especially first person ones aren't particularly good imo, though I'm more bothered about the low framerate of some monster death animations. Can't blame them since they're a 9 men indie studio.

Doubt it since your character get into a downed but not out stated at 0 HP. Unless they do something special when every member is down, but I expect they work more on gameplay than being decapitate.

Since the maps aren't generated procedural ingame but 150 proc gen handpicked I would love to see a frequent flow of new ones. I'd love the idea playing this game for thousands of hours and never having a "i know this place"-Moment. So any plans for new maps in the future? Even a hand full per quarter would make an impact

@rapid saddle All playable characters are male, they're all mentally unstable and for that whole idea we've drawn inspiration from Alien³ - which is also about convicts locked inside a dark environment trying to survive a deadly force. We have no political agenda one direction or the other, so the all-male cast is not a statement of any sorts.

The soundtrack will most likely be made available for streaming/download, yes.

I'm not sure the soundtrack will be sold on Steam, so no plans for that, no.

SMGs, rifles, LMGs, DMRs, pistols, shotguns, you name it. No miniguns or grenade launchers or anything like that - and for the powerful weapons like LMGs, you won't have much ammo I'm afraid!

@frozen hamlet in order to be able to create deep characters with lots of voice lines, we've limited ourselves to four characters. Each character is so much work that it wouldn't make sense to create hidden or locked characters that not everybody will be able to enjoy.

That's not planned, no, and sounds super complex. Even just creating a secure, reliable system in a GUI that allows players to trade items would be super hard.

It doesn't attract them
Voice chat has no effect in game on gameplay, partly because it would just encourage the useage of third party programs and sink development time into something that might not even be used or circumvented
Not even the dialog between the game characters attracts monsters. They shush each other just to create that tension.

Lack of suppressors is a design choice to make you risk getting close to enemies for silent kills
In a tunnel type environment, silencers realistically would do next to nothing to keep quiet
Standard ammunition is still pretty loud out of suppressed pieces anyway
Reduced hearing damage when used indoors but still very loud

Not to talk about durability for a makeshift silencer. The Welrod, as an example, had roughly 20 bullets before it stopped silencing all together. But then, we are talking about a prison encampment.

But whoever is supplying the gear for these missions probably isn't carrying custom subsonic thumper rounds or whatnot

It's just they way they were crafted. They were pieces of rubber reduced the sound by closing up behind them, practically, trapping most of the gas, and thus reducing sound. Also why they only worked for so few shots.

You select your loadout before starting the expedition and that's what you'll stay with till the end (apart from the health paks and ammo paks you can find in the exps themselves), same for the next ones

Okay, here is a good question.
How long the expeditions are, and can you go back to an expedition after you have collected some stuff?
For example, an expedition is avg. 30 mins long, you already collected some stuff at 15 minutes, can you leave to secure the loot and then go back with it?
Length varies depending on the expeditions, and you gotta do them to the end. As for loot, we don't know how it works, but pretty sure it doesn't work like in payday
Also, I know the game's theme is exploring dark caves full of these monsters. I hope the caves will look and feel different from one to another, because at some point, it gets more boring than applying the "claustrophobic" feeling.
As well as objectives vary, a lot.
The idea is to make resources&commodities persistent, so if you pick it up in one place you won't be able to pick that same piece of resource up the next time you play the same expedition.
This doesn't go for things like health/ammo/anything you pick up and use immediately during that same expedition, obviously. It only goes for the items you pick up to bring to the Warden, and use to mod weapons, etc.

It's a mechanic that encourages players to play new expeditions rather than just farming on one they're familiar with. Plus it likely makes the in-game economy a bit less difficult to balance.

It's gone forever in that expedition.

Yes, over time there we will accumulate more expeditions containing more resources, amounting to more value than you have need for.
So there will be finite amount of resources, scattered across all missions? Interesting.
You can still play the expedition again and pick up the thing, and anyone who's playing the expedition with you who hasn't picked it up will then get it.
Yes, these persistent things are given to the entire team if one player picks it up. This is to not encourage players to rush ahead of the group and compete for resources.

All I can say is this: Anyone who is planning to play GTFO extensively and "go meta" on the game and doesn't already produce YouTube videos, stream their play sessions or run a website... I encourage you to consider doing one of those things because the GTFO community is gonna be full of people who will be thirsty for your knowledge and expertise.
Well, "run a website"... I mean, you can make informative posts on the Steam forum or on the GTFO reddit as well, I suppose. But you get it.
Don't you worry Simon. A bunch of us are probably going to be on that train. And not even strictly to "go meta" learning Payday 2 inside and out to the point to be able to tell someone what skills and play style they should go for when they have the idea of only what weapon they want to use is such a great thing. Especially since it ends up with people enjoying the game in a way they normally wouldn't and it doesn't always have to be about them playing on the hardest difficulty, just them being comfortable where they are and having fun.

Well it still has endless replayability regardless due to how maps work and are built. If anything that's a huge positive aspect in my books since it actually gives a tangible goal to grind for.

@lusty canyon Warden has no visual representation, so we took the symbol from the Apex doors in GTFO. Apex doors are the high security doors that require you to solve a puzzle and/or fight several waves of monsters to get through them.

We won't actively make the music system unmoddable, but it's not our aim to make it easy to mod either - we're just making a music system that serves the type of style and adaptive music methods I've come up with for this game. It will definitely not be as easy to swap out music parts as it was in PD2.

I've noticed one of the systems of the game, is "horde mode". Where if you make too much noise they'll come to you in hordes, music changes, door collapses...etc.
I was wondering, are all of those npc's from the Horde actually real? (In the sense of, were they in the map already?) Or does the game spawn them when the "horde event" triggers?.
Either way works great, they are just two approaches. But if you do kill the entire horde, (in the 1sdt case scenario where npc's from the horde were present on the game), you could potentially clear a few enemies ahead of you after a succesfull Horde defend or however you wanna call it.

you could just clear the entire map with a single horde, something we don't want
You can't empty an entire expedition by triggering an alarm and drawing all the monsters out, because alarms only draw monsters from a limited area. There will be also roaming monsters that respawn - so you won't be able to clear an area and backtrack through that area safely; you'll always want a teammate with out and you always have a reason to be on your toes.
Do they spawn from tunnels/dark places in the map where they come out (as overkill walking dead, zombies get out of doors in the map...etc) or do they spawn somewhere around the map (where no one can see them)

The only info we know is beta is happning. and it will be for all the ambassadors, there is some talk about streamers having a early peak at it ( good promo and such) but thats all theroy, i would say a decent time before spring. of what simon has said that doing a beta, a week before launch is basically promo and wont fix any bugs before launch,, so not now but a decent time before launch so (theroy) 2-3 months before launch maybe?

There's also a team puzzle where one person has to type in commands into a console and another person has to communicate what they need to put in.

Difficulty will not work exactly the same way it does in other games, but no details were given about it yet
We tried our best to show in the TGA2017 trailer that it's possible to sneak past enemies and avoid confrontation, and that the game has a slower pace with more exploration and stealth than other games in the genre. It's difficult though, because we needed the trailer to really grab people and you do that best with action shots.
Despite the "horde" that shows up at the end of the trailer, I think it clearly shows enough other aspects of the game to indicate that it's not a simple horde shooter. But it's all in the eye of the beholder.
I think y'all did a good job with that, I basically figured that was how the game was gonna be by that trailer and subsequent released info. It's not your fault media outlets used the term "next left 4 dead" or "left 4 dead 3" in the headlines for clicks.

yeah in a place like the complex you really take high powered rifles for the 2 man insta taps on the scouts

I usually use 3x or 4x, and make do with a lot of flicking on non-visible targets, but the 1x Coyote from BF4 hold a good place in my heart.

I think Simon stated that GTFO will lack ‘delete button’ weapons. Probably gonna need to stealth-melee any scouts you come across.
That is, take out sleepers before they wake up
No Simon said you have about a 0.5 or so seconds window to kill a scout after you shoot it, and a high powered rifle should kill it in 2 shots. Hence 2 men insta gibbing it.
You sync shots and shoot the same scout twice at roughly the same time (as long as they're both within 0.5 seconds of each other) and you kill the scout
Then when the other monsters run in from the noise your 2 other teammates clean them up to conserve ammo on your big gun carriers
Since you'll only attract a small amount of enemies from insta killing a scout due to no alarm.
I mean keep in mind this is all theory based on what we know about the game but it makes sense to me in my limited knowledge. If it's possible to stealth immdiately after killing a scout and avoid confrentation all together from stray monsters attracted by sound that's ideal but based on gameplay footage we saw it isn't, or at least not easily.

For stealth or reusable ammo?
Since surpressors wouldn't actually work inside a tunnel, but even a crossbow makes enough sound to echo.
Reusable ammo, though a bow and arrow would also make less noise, and could be as effective as a bullet if utilized properly. Could also be used to activate switches from a distance.
Seems like that would be too strong because it would allow you to circumvent any moments in the game where you are unable to kill enemies from range because you would have a weapon with recoverable ammo that would effectively never run out. The general idea I've gathered about the gameplay suggests that there are times when you must sneak around enemies due to lack of ammo and having a weapon with effectively unlimited ammo removes all reason to sneak.
I think the term for this is "game breaking" as it alters the game mechanics and flow in a way that is unintended.
I suppose the arrows don't necessarily need to be recoverable. They aren't in either Destiny 2 or Horizon Zero Dawn (but they are in Breath of the Wild, at least, arrows that miss the target are). Although in HZD, you can always craft more arrows if you need them, and in Destiny 2, picking up a primary ammo block restores your arrow reserves.
It takes a lot more time to make a weapon that isn't hitscan
So I wouldn't expect Projectile based weapons at launch
Having non-recoverable arrows seems okay, but what if a crew bring all crossbows and rush objectives like they do in payday with zero risk of alerting enemies from sound. And if you remove the silent aspect of a bow is it really a bow anymore? I suppose it would be a cool weapon look.

Well the bow thing wasnt pointed to you, just in general ( the reason why I wrote it with a space lower) well Railguns have really limited shots, but they do ALOT OF DMG.
I liked how helldivers handled the railgun

Well we know the story is going to be told through the expeditions with no cutscenes so we can only assume yes each expedition will have plenty of easter eggs story wise

Also color blindness question is a good one for @blissful dove. But from first impressions with the UI and enviroments it seems very dark/monotone so I don't think it'd be needed personally.
I do remember there being discussion about colour aids a while ago
I think its less hud elements looking the same between green and red because I don't think colour itself is actually used as identification, but more colours that might blend into the environment with certain forms of colour impairment
We're trying to think of designing everything to accommodate colorblindness, but this is the first title we do that on so we might not get it right immediately. Community feedback will be essential.

the most common form of color blindness is red green deficiency (i'm pretty sure) so your game should be fine as I don't see the color clashing often (example: red markers on enemies and green on friendlies is a big no no). So far the game looks fine for colorblind accommodations (this is all based off of assumptions not actual science bear that in mind) The tracer/laser weapons could end up creating some blending in some peoples view (like wolf said) and you definitely want to be able to color certain aspects (like crosshairs/laser sights if those exist)

also can mean there is a region lock on playing the game, as in there are regional versions of keys
Sorry, I don't know if that is planned, I'll have to check with other members of the team. For the sake of ping, it sounds better to have the ability to filter on ping rather than region, but I get the language barrier reason.

IMO I think a filter works better for a coop game. I can imagine people who have friends in other countries.
I agree with slewey, ping filter and perhaps a party management feature would be more than enough.

Well, them using Steam matchmaking inherently implies certain regional restrictions, as it will match you with people closest to your Steam download location, so there's that

Yeah, 10cc is a small team (9 members currently), so localization is not a priority at the moment.

I think non-dedicated servers were problematic before multicore cpus were common on consumer grade computers. Modern computers shouldn't have any problem hosting the game and running it for the player at the same time
Hopefully, hosting will be set up in a way that allows people with solid specs and internet can set up a computer to do nothing but host a “dedicated” game server like old school Starseige/Tribes did.
