@heady cedar That client.txt or master.txt file (and output_log.txt) is just a log of the game. Basically the game just outputting debug info to help us troubleshoot certain types of issues. Those 3 files will have no effect on the game. What's more likely impacting is the gtfo_settings.txt that is deleted when you delete that folder and it gets reset to default when you launch the game.
What I'd be interested in is if you start the game, play, close out, relaunch (without ever changing any settings). Does it still have the same issue. If not, then it's something with one of the settings you are changing.

the "template" looking ones were named GTFO.2020.06.08.01.42.08_NICKNAME_NETSTATUS.txt
that's a zip of the log files that were in place before i deleted them
for some reason deleting them and making no other changes caused the game to start working
so for now thanks for the help but imma go by the "if it aint broke dont fix it" mentality and just play the game lol, hope the logs help

full crash dumps can be extremely large in size and painstaking to read. The logs that get written and sent by unity are usually enough.

For your issue, no idea as yours is much more unique, in the fact the normal log files cause it to not work, whereas for others it's just one or the other actually settings file itself. Sometimes external factors cause files to get corrupt. With developing you have to plan for everything to break and that can be tough. We've got a couple bug reports on our board to help with some of these issues.

hi all, I'm trying to play over VPN as I get extreme lag playing with friends internationally (China->Australia), without the VPN some elements of the game work fine (I can see my friends positions \ they can see me, very low latency), however opening doors\security checks, and grabbing loot, are extremely delayed (5-10secs).
using proxycap (or proxifier) to force traffic via my VPN I can't get past the opening screen (Network Error), other steam games\discord\browser\tools I use for my day-job work fine, with relatively low latency,
I have tried deleting AppData/reinstalling, this is happening every day for the past 4 days since I purchased the game
any thoughts/tips? I saw a few others mentioned using a VPN

VPN can cause troubles as some features can get "blocked".
The best is not to use VPN, you basically connect to another PC and then to the "server" (host of the game) which causes a lot of delay.
it's worth a shot to try to change the host, as this can fix some problems

unfortunately the laggy situation I mentioned is without, my VPN is tcp+udp enabled 😦 presuming the movement is UDP which is working and doors are tcp or something.
if I host it'll work for me, and my 3 friends get the lag instead, not ideal
due to the GFW here VPN is typically much faster, In other games I have a ~180ms ping to aus over VPN, ~500ms without, but GTFO is not cooperating with it

Yeah the problem i see is that the game is (mainly) p2p (pee to peer) which is a problem, as you "directly" connect to the host, and if there is to much delay it causes in game delay. When you host you are basically the server, but they have to connect to you.
The question is, do they get lag with and without the VPN and what difference does it make.

Bad packets in the logs is normal, bad packets happen all the time. VPN's are not a standard supported configuration as each VPN does things differently. If the VPN is working properly on your computer, all traffic should go through it, and to Steam and GTFO all it knows is the computer telling it "if you want internet, use this network connection". The game uses Steam to provide a base for networking an then peer to peer for traffic routing. It sounds like either the VPN isn't working ideally, or something firewall related is blocking connections needed, not something the game can change.

some bad packets is normal no doubt, my logs avg ~14 badpackets per second though, guessing that is why it is not really playable 🙂
all I can say is GTFO is not working but everything else does, not sure what special network checks it does on startup, anything I can look for firewall related?
and there is something clearly different between the traffic where players move around, vs certain events like the doors
for example after drop I can see my buddies jump out of the 'elevator' and run off, while I have to wait till it figures out I should be released

@rich ivy The game more/less connects to Steam (general networking, knowing how to connect you to other players so it can then send the traffic p2p), connects to PlayFab for storing/getting game data. If it can't connect to steam or playfab you'll get a no network connection error. After that, it's a combo of steam and p2p. when you click to join your friend, use a lobby code that's using steam to pair you up, then using peer to peer to communicate with each other. elevator sequence is the game loading the expedition. any type of desync where things are delayed, take a long time to do something is generally an issue with network communication, which makes sense due to the firewall.

hi @jaunty condor the 1050ti should be able to get over 60FPS. At the moment i test some stuff as this rundown seems to give me the least FPS so far ^^ for the stat i would suggest to turn off G-Sync if enabled and also test around with other options. It may be only the levels, but maybe it is something else ^^

also You should see if Fullscreen mode is set to either Exclusivfullscreen or Fullscreenwindow.
Max render queued frames basically "buffers" some frames, the best setting for yours could be 4-6, but it can introduce little input delay.

if he, or you have not good enough internet, it can happen that desync gets introduced into the fun, so it's always better to try with different Hosts, or see if a different region is better ^^

Idk how to report bugs but there is 2 i want to report one is that the other players stats such as ammo percentage isn't correct it is something completely different on that players screen. The second one if you get downed on a ladder you will stay on the ladder. Once revived you don't get a prompt to reclimb on the ladder and you get downed again.

@small flower Sorry for this late response. I checked the logs and it seems this problem occured in the past. First of all you should file a bug report via the link in #bug-reporting. I will check if there's a fix, but so far i couldn't find anything.
@real kayak This can happen on both sides. Sometimes it can happen localy sometimes it's just discord, specially with such a huge Server. A good thing is to restart Discord and check if other servers have the same problem. if you still should encounter this problem it can help to restart the router.
@bleak fog you should check the folder in which the settings are saved if the folder is "read only" if you do not know how to check this feel free to ask ^^

Very strange. Freesync actually helps for me. My pc has autism and it stutters under 100FPS on all games. Still have no clue. And you're lucky I did some testing today on usage. I'll tell you in a min.

I partly belive it's windows fault. The more I pry into solving my issue with stuttering under 100FPS. The more I think it's windows OS.
There's actually a lot of junk that happens.
On it that can interfere with gaming.
Alright the GPU usage testing with a flashed Card and not.
GPU: Rx 5700 flashed the the XT model.
With no FPS limit on. It was at a constant 100% at all times. Menu screen with people was around 90%.
During gameplay, it was at 100%. There was times it dropped to 75% in darker areas/less demanding areas.
However, I believe the flash version causes more frame drops. However, it could be because the GPU was unlocked and used to the fullest with
the clocks e.t.c
The non Flashed:
It definitely reduced the frame drops, but I think it's because it wasn't as pushed as hard as the flashed one.
During game play it was at 80% to 90%.
Can fall down to 70% in less intensive areas. It was 40% on menus.
All this was done on D1, I have not tried any other levels so far.
Forgot, capped to 75 FPS, both usage falled by 10% to 20%>
However, just because it uses all usage doesn't mean the GPU is bad/faulty.

I tried playing GTFO one day, but there was an insane amount of lag due to a broke fan. In order to do so, what I had to do was change the resolution to the lowest size there was. It was extremely pixelated but playable. After that day I got my fan fixed and tried launching GTFO again. I forgot to change the settings back before logging off the last time, so when I log back on, there is an invisible box preventing me from launching or clicking into the settings. I have tried some different -autoconfig commands etc in the launch properties, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling
nothing has worked, I would greatly appreciate help with this!

I was changing the game's code to see if I could get more than 4 people in one lobby
at some point I've replaced the steamworks dll to run 5 GTFO instances on my pc, but then got this prompt

@olive pilot So far, there is very limited controller support for the game. It is recommended you play with a mouse and keyboard if you can. Controller bindings may not work as well as pc controls and some aspects of the game, such as typing into a terminal, cannot be done from the controller and need to be done on a keyboard anyways.

@limber flare That's because of your specs. This games specs are a little misleading. It is very GPU heavy. I can be running at 120 - 144 FPS during stealth. It can go to 70 FPS. Because you are running a 1050ti with a weak processor. This game is weird, although It doesn't benefit of using CPU usage. It also takes advantage of it during heavy loads like in combat. Also, if you get stuttering it's most likely your 8GB ram being the limiting factor. 2.8GHz for gaming is also considered on the lowe side.

I just tested with me being offline as well as invisible and a friend of mine was able to join, so that directly shouldn't be the issue. Without knowing more about why you can't go online, it's possible whatever that is related to could be causing the issue. I'm not going to pry further on that if you don't want to or not sure how to say it, but at this point we've ruled out every aspect except for it being something related to your setup/configuration.

Sorry for the delay. I mean that my game video freezes (on a static image) but I can still move, shoot, etc (verified by team mates). The game is still running, but the video never changes
It seems to be related to loading a (or some) particular assets, but I'm not certain about that. By which I mean it happens when events trigger (e.g. respawning, opening doors, getting next objectives). I'm not entirely certain about this though

Yeah but as the game is (mainly) Peer to peer, it can happen that you streamline wrong or no assets "from him"... i suck at explanation...
Basically he can "send" wrong packages that someone conflict with your game.

I think so, I'm so used to the bug hunting one i forget the general one. It's ok to send multiple reports if you forgot or redcived new info so don't worry about it if not.
The logs should tell us what the AI was thinking when it spawned them.

Ryzen 1600/GTX1080. Prior to yesterday's update, consistent ~100 - 130 frames, regardless of horde. Settings set to as high as possible. Played in maximized window
After yesterday's updates/hotfixes. I turned all settings except for AA (set to high performance) to as low as possible. Getting 100 fps in normal sequences. Drops as low as 50-80 during hordes. Game is choppy when set to anything other than exclusive full screen.

Normally it can happen if the level geometry does not load for the player, this can happen is some data get's lost while he downstreams them. for this it is the best to follow the steps in #bug-reporting to report the bug and see if this problem occurs more often or if this was a one time thing

@prisma panther That is de-sync. Try to change the host or host a game yourself. The game uses peer to peer, so the host should have good internet. Also be sure there are no problems with the internet like outage or high usage.

hey so i'm new here and i recently purchased gtfo on steam and upon trying to play the game i came across a problem. my issue was when i switched the resolution to support my 3 monitors (7680x1440p), the none of the icons work on my 2 side monitors but the center monitor still works, as in the icons are all usable. my biggest issue is that now i have no way of opeening my setting menu because the settings options on my left screen and as stated prior, none of the icons work on my side monitors. idk if this is a known issue or not but thought i would ask about it.
