MG takes all small ones out in two shots which is invaluable.
Shotgun has too little ammo, revolver is the same. Sniper is pretty much exclusively for giants (which the MG takes care of effectively as well)
So for most players, MG is the most efficient and effective choice.
Unless you can't melee kill a scout safely, then someone should have a sniper too.
sorry to interrupt but when the scout is using his "sensor", i notice that they have a delay when they are retract the " sensor".
Can we attack it when they are in that "delay" and still not get alert?
Whenever they're alerted and start to turn blue they become invulnerable.
i know that, what i meant is when the scout start using the "sensor/tentacles" they seem vulnerable and "delay"
when you shot him 1 when they have the tentacles out they need to retract it ==> that make him delay for 0.5 second or 1 second
i haven't test that but i've seen 2 guys shot the scout when the tentacles was out and kill it without the sniper

Might just be because I've been playing in a squad of 3 rather than 4, but even landing all shots on critical areas it feels sort of impossible to clear each room without running out by the time you get the keycard.

Does the Alpha have a memory leak? As I find when playing for the first hour or two it has a smooth framerate then after that it seems to have a lot of stutters and dips.

Got 20h ingame now, and for the most part, this game seems to be in a very, very good shape! Enjoyed my time a lot so far! Some issues with music staying on the 'alert' when nothing's going on, so I turned it off; the game feels better since it's so important to pay attention to the sound-cues! Also, the enemy seems to trigger from 'nothing' half the time. Not sure if bug or poorly communicated mechanic, but it's not a fun unpredictable factor. I thought it might be that if a dead body fell on an enemy, that would trigger it, but that's not the case in all unexpected triggers.
Overall very excited to see where this goes in the near future!
it could be a combination of a few things + not being fully tuned yet. they have a range in which theyll detect if a nearby host dies, said range also (for now) ignores barriers, so i had moments when one woke up when the one below died ' v'

flashlight is always off, and the distance is really inconsistent if that's what's doing it.
Sometimes you can kill one of two that's practically touching, other times an enemy 15m away that was 'black' will trigger....
i never figured out the range myself, its more or less consistent in solo (atleast for me)

There is going to be progression but we don't know what kind yet. In one of the trailers showing off an enemy type (the shadows) we can see "advanced" for one of the guns.

They said you are sent down for the specific item, but you could choose to branch off to get more items to upgrade your equipment.

Scouts are not deaf @still goblet They trigger like any other sleeper. I know because I walked by one and it panicked without tentacles. Unless that was just the game hating me still.
They're pretty damn deaf and blind.

They literally just want the item and anything else we do down there they don't care. So that means we can setup a camp and just chill for awhile before going back up for food and things.
idea we set up camp and learn to domesticate the creatures then we fight back against the warden with a army of our own

@granite lintel it's probably done by scaling up the different channels by ever so slightly different amounts, meaning it's more pronounced near then corners. It's still a fullscreen effect. Theres also the issue of having a 2000€ setup pretending to be a 5€ camera.....

The enemies seem to use echolocation to see people, if you stand perfectly still a lot of times enemies will ignore you and go for your teammates if they were the ones to make noise initially and set them off.
Not sure if that's just bad AI pathing from alpha or intended design, but yeah.

what would be the best place to post general feedback that it would actually be seen? ive made a short list of things that came up as I was playing with my group of friends, but i wouldnt really categorize most of them as bugs or outright feature suggestions

Chromatic abberation is not something you see in ever really cheap cameras. You need really, really, really cheap and shitty gear to get even remotely the amount of CA this game has, and even then it'll just be software corrected.
Like, I hate it a lot, but GTFO has an aesthetic of grime and distortion that a lot of games don't go all in on.

Let me rephrase it slightly then. My eyes don't have CA, and any game that has CA makes it feel like the entire image is 'out of focus' and my brain tries really hard to compensate for that. This is why headaches/migranes can be a sign of poor eye-sight; the brain working overtime to compensate.

The reason i'm hesitant is I've seen this stuff go downhill fast, like The Hunt dramatically nerfing its darkness because players complained, which ruined a lot of the atmosphere and tension of that game.

That, and I'd also prefer either different AA options, or just 'no AA'. Tried TAA, FXAA fast, balanced and 'good' and I can't see any difference, and they all looks like 'bad FXAA'.

LIST (floornumber) to list all the things on the floor your on, then you can basically ignore the QUERY command for the most part by only needing to PING the thing you want on that floor. @wise bough

It will show items from other zones inside the zone you choose to filter in.

yes it does, it shows the items in the zone your in, then any item with that number under that.
ex, if your using
LIST 10
you'll get items that contain numbers like 103 or 610 at the bottom of the list under all the items on your floor.
It's less a bug and more a functional limitation of how they have LIST set up, it would make more sense to have to actually put in
LIST ZONE_10 so it would cull any items like medipack_103
Or just LIST 10
one example is list medipack_123
then to know in which zone is located, write query medipack_123
oh, and better maps. That map is too complex, I am pretty sure they will make it better tho

Maybe instead of having item names completely random with the numbers have it that the item has a number beginning with its zone number so you dont have to query every medipack just to know wich ones are in a currently reachable area

Say a extra line saying: "item not in assigned location." In addition to the Zone number where it actually is
It would make sense as the items would be labeled according to the zone they are supposed to be in
@brittle drum I do feel like having the zone number inside the item ruins the immersion a bit. I mean, they were not produced there and items+code tend to be needed in case there is a facturing fault and has to be send back.
I do feel like every zone could use a mainframe terminal in a dangerous location that can instantly list all the items available in the specific zone. That way, if you dont want to spend time exploring or spend 5-10 minutes actually listing all the items on a regular terminal, you could face a dangerous room to find exactly what items are at which location. In the alpha expedition, for example, I would expect Zone 10K to have a terminal where you can list all items and locations found in zone 10. If you could use any terminal at all to do the same, it would be extremely easy for everyone to stay at 100% ammo etc because you can avoid any area that is high risk and low reward.
The low spawn rates for ammo and med kits dont really support that at least imo
And if anything the code showing the area its supposed to be in makes it more immersive as the item would be labeled not by the company that built it but by the company thats keeping track of its location
Taking a note out of IRL traceability in this case means a code ascociated with its intended location would make it more intuitive to use
This doesnt guarantee that the item will actually be there but it will make it less of a hassle on the terminal to query every single medkit just to know if its in a zone they can reach
Because i for one dont go onto the terminal if the room isnt clear... and if it is clear and im on the terminal its just eating time and frustrating to query every single item separately
Not to mention having to write down the separate IDs to locate them later on when i actually reach that area and cant find them without another terminal so i can ping them
well, you can query each item and it will tell you which zone it is in, but its very tedious to generally locate items using that, and that is fine. Having a mainframe in each zone with a masterquery for every single item within the zone would make sense. I mean, the items werent placed down there with the intent of being instantly needed. They were placed down for use in specific zones and it would be very easy to query an item and simply walk over there before things got infected.
I do agree with having a way of in-game noting down, because otherwise I just grab a piece of paper in real life and scribble on there.

Is there a guide for accessing the terminals? I always get confused 😂
Its pretty straightforward, there's only three commands you're really going to be using.
List, Query, and Ping. List is for finding out what items of a type are left, so like medkits, ammo, tool refill, lockers, and boxes.
Query tells us what zone an item is located in, and Ping tells us what part of a zone an item is located in.
So lets say you want a medkit, you'd type "LIST MED" and it will give you several entries all with the letters MED in there.
Every one of those will have "MEDIPACK_###" and this is what we need to use the query command
So to find the zone of the item you want, you'd go "QUERY MEDIPACK_123"
In this case its in Zone 12, just like you. So what you do now in this scenario is type "PING MEDIPACK_123" to find that it is in Zone 12B.
Also you can find medipacks or other things in your Zone by command: LIST ZONE (number of zone)
And after that find your good by PING
It wasn't working properly in the alpha which is why I did not mention it. It would often show items inside of a different zone

The number of creatures is within the normal range, but the equipment is small.
I had a problem with two scouts in the same room, and given that they can not be killed with one blow - I have a whole horde of creature.
yea not really much you can do when there are 2 in the same room unless you are using someone with a sniper or 2 really good players and good luck

S-foam does not always work well to stan creatures.
A fully charged melee kills them

Personally, I just pick up a Sentry because I know almost any team I am in is bound to fuck up, so having an area where I have a sentry placed before a tough room so I can have at least something to rely on

solo it depends on if I want to test out stuff or do an actual run
mines for a run, sentry if I want to spend 15 minutes crouch jumping against walls to see if I can clip through anywhere
From my experience mines carry potatoes better than a sentry most of the time

in general having sentries is great if your picking up even 1 random too just to idiot proof your plans

yeah, steam takes about 30% at first, which honestly isnt that bad of a deal, considering retail stores took about 40% back in the day. The biggest difference is that retail stores bought games in bulk and thus were basically pre-sold, where steam doesnt.

I get why a lot of games want to go with the epic store nowadays, but all in all, if the game sells even decently, its worth putting it on steam anyway

True, Steam is quite generous to developers, even if they claim not to be. Sure, Epic says they will take less of a cut, but I still believe Steam generates more income for developers. Especially because having sales later on, allows people with a smaller budget to still buy the games, thus increasing overall sales over a longer period of time, even though normally retail stores wouldnt order the game anymore due to lack of interest. Maybe Epic will be able to replace Steam in the future, but currently, I see no reason to offer games solely to the Epic Store.

the only reason publishers go to epic is because epic shells out insane amount of cash in bribes, instead of actually developing the god damn store

Epic are only making the games that using their Unreal Engine. Devs who uses it has to pay a percentage to Epic no matter what for the use. So a percentage to Epic, then some to the platform the games are on. Their percentage gets smaller and smaller the more things are involved.
Devs took a good deal by going exclusively to Epic because they cut out so many middlemen. It still sucks. Epic is a shitty platform and I don't like having so many on my desktop. Blizzard, Origin, Epic, Steam, etc.
I mean if Epic tried competing by improving their platform, sure. But instead they pay to make the other platforms worse, and force customers to buy a game on an inferior platform or not at all. In the end consumers get an inferior product no matter what.
I dont mind having multiple platforms that much. I mean it sucks but it's not a big deal. I mind Epic using their money to try to make the PC platform universally shittier. The Epic head hates the other stores so they take it out on consumers.

@umbral sage There is no set date for the next round of testing or Earl Access release. Best we know so far is that the dev's are shooting to have EA out for December, but keep an eye on #game-announcements for more information

@granite lintel I think the Rundown is a great way to present a game like this. A small(ish) number of focused maps to progress through over the course of a week or two before moving on to the next. Should keep the game fresh.
Couple that with various forms of progression (guns, tools, armor, etc) should keep it interesting.

Its pretty easy in a group, A1 is also easy solo, but B1 will take some time to solo effectively.
The lack of alarms necessary to win is a big factor in why a1 isn't hard

Make sure you Microsoft Net Framework is up to date. My friend could barely launch the game be for he crashed. Told him to update that and it's fixed the crashing problem for him. But that doesn't seem to be a working fix for all. JFYI

1440p dropdown in alpha was around 15 frames, now its around 40 frames. The actual game stays about 120.
I'm just curious because one of my friends had a few problems. Game ran like a fully completed game for me when it was still an alpha. Never had any frame drop that I could tell.

so not to spoil for somebody who havent played it- ||since its wave based defense in shape of line with resources along the way, best way to start defense is at beginning , and then fall back to reactor as resources dry out. because there is need to type out codes, there should be a person (most likely one) who will either sit on console without ever taking part in defense , or he will have to run between 2 places constantly, which is also quite annoying||
So by "not great" you meant annoying/difficult?
how is it difficult? 3 people can easily defend their own ground with that many resources, while one guy either spends whole 8 waves running between 2 locations for just a bit of action, or just stands near terminal doing nothing for like 20 mins

Mg was nerfed to have a long charge up time but still kills well, stealth felt the same, the game felt darker, shotgun is still poop, ar still is meh, combat shotgun is fun

All u have to do is open doors and communicate with your team
I disagree, bringing 1 bioscanner to missions like a1 is super handy. The most common thing that kills groups in normal play is aggroing shit they didn't know was there
That only happens if you team doesnt communicate
If you play 'perfectly', the bioscanner does nothing, but you can't assume perfect play, especially not from a team of 4

Flash only trigger enemies if u hold it on them for a short period of time
It can trigger enemies pretty much immediately if someone is moving nearby too
and in a dark room, moving in pairs with intermittent flashlight use is basically necessary
and if you have to go round a corner and there's something you didn't know was there, you can be in BIG trouble
yeah I turned the long range flash on last night for a split second, room got lit, figuratively and literally.

it's not much good if your team doesn't listen to the info it's giving you, but knowing how many enemies are in a room and where they are without having to see each individual one, esp. in fog rooms and particularly dark rooms, is great
yea good communication is essential, promotes good teamplay too
In standard rooms? Ehn, it's nice to have but doesn't add much, but in the really dark rooms (like past the non-alarm door in a1) and fog rooms, it can prevent a ton of headaches and save a lot of ammo and health
Even if it prevents you from aggroing a room only once during a full run, that's potentially a 4-use medpack + a decent amount of ammo that you've gained
Again my team just used sound and teamwork and it worked fine
That's great! You won't always be that lucky. Random spawns, plus you can't assume you'll always play perfectly.

Like, the bioscanner isn't ALWAYS good. Sometimes it won't do much. But it's not useless, it's a very reasonable tool to bring one of almost any time
(b1 being an obvious exception, it's hot garbage there)

I can agree with both sides tbh - I've had many times where I stealth kill an enemy, and alert one I somehow managed to overlook or not noticed on the side walls or something. But for a lot of experienced players they may want to risk it without a scanner and be able to do just fine

Again sound is one of the most important things in this game
If something does go wrong--again, particularly in a fog room--having the targetting triangles for every enemy in the room is GREAT
