As for me, compared to the 2017 trailer it's great seeing all the changes and revisions they've worked on.
It's definitely more polished looking than initially shown.

same here, to me the purpose of testing is to give them feedback, report bugs, etc.
part of the testing process is that players will shape the future of GTFO based on their feedback, so I'm gonna try to record everything and give them feedback based on it

We’ve reworked parts they needed working, and made it into a more solid and experience,
Reworked a lot of stuff under the hood. More than altering the core design so to speak

Alright then, but some unity versions (especially major updates from 2017 to 2018 to 2019 etc.) brings a lot of new and technical performance things
so depending on whether it's running well, or not, is the need of an upgrade
it's also the aspect of " you don't know what you don't know" when it comes to updating a game regarding the engine
but why does an upgrade bring new bugs, when the core system should be the same
like you may develop the game a certain way, then realize later on "shit, I need to change this, damnit the engine doesn't let me do what I need"
or "we don't need to change this value too often, it's fine keeping locally on the client" then later finding out "the community wants us to react fast and adjust this value to make the game better. ok, value changed, now to certify the update and push it out... a month later"
Also not every unity engine update supports every script, so the scripts also need to be upgraded to a newer version etc.
Does Unity run off a base code or is it comprised of it's own code mainly?
I think Unreal Engine uses c and c++, but I don't know much about unity.
I'm just intermediate in c# and a begineer in C++. I also have background in unix / linux.
Due to medical issues I did most of my core classes first
C# runs pretty fast in Windows too, but nothing that can outperform C++
still, some Unity showcases manage to get more FPS than Unreal ones in the same scenarios

There will be a form for collecting bug reports. Feedback utilizing the various channels like discord, steam forums, #gtfo-game-suggestions for well ideas/suggestions.

anyways, not a big deal, it's a coop game
still, you can easily detect no clip by doing what it's called I think a SphereCast
They are being vague about it.. as to not reveal secrets that could allow someone to cheat. Part of security is through actually having hardened systems, part is through not letting the opponents know what's under the hood. There will always be a way to cheat something if you try hard enough.
I'm now reading that obfuscating .dll's in Unity is rather hard tho

as an example, in SCP:SL you can still crash servers by "killing" yourself over and over, obfuscating methods that could cause issues could solve problems
and you could crash servers by just telling the server you customized your weapons because that makes sense
Maybe a system where the game can check acceptable parameters on what a player should have throughout key points of the game. If you are over that it could indicate a form of cheating. Which would trigger the game to up the gameplay to be more difficult or something to reflect that. That way if someone does cheat it is bluntly obvious for them. Like instead of one or two characters show up in a spot. 10 of the same type show up. Just end up making it all silly.
or just a raycast from the player to check if he has sight with what he's shooting through walls if the game is not hitreg like Overwatch or any Source game
My way doesn't prevent cheating but rather so if caught does something else in the game to make it not fully worthwhile to cheat
I don't think it's worth worrying about how GTFO can be hardened to cheaters as it's not something they are going to ever tell the public how they secure the system, and I'm confident that they have smart devs that know how to do that type of stuff. If after the alpha or early access is released and you do your own testing and find an exploit then bring it up to the devs or to one of us mods/admins so we can relay to the devs privately to get fixed.

At any rate, by 'quick restart' I think they are talking about restarting an expedition without the need to utilize Alt-F4 after a team wipe... as I understand the current situation.

Quick restart also means having a "leave game, back to menu" button

It's what Steve said. Currently the quick restart may/may not always reload the expedition correctly, or at all, so to reliably start the expedition again you need to completely quit the game and relaunch.
Not about adding in the buttons, the buttons exist, the functionality doesn't always work.

I'm talking about what Simon has mentioned before. Currently, while in game in GTFO there is no "leave game/back to main menu" option. They can only Alt+F4 and restart the game.
So they can't even return to the menu if the game is already started.
I mean you have to program it and get probably some interlopers/postfix patches and all the coding yada yada (or just replacing the whole game) but yeah

Unless they've changed things up, repositioning and resetting everything within the expedition is beside the point. At least in the version I played at E3 2018, enemy encounters and supply caches were randomized with each reattempt

As far as I know the alpha is geared towards anyone who signed up as ambassador, details regarding invites aren't known yet.
Disk space is something that they'll provide info in the future, since they're still working on the game.
There's still time to sign up as an ambassador for access to the alpha and beta, so I would get your friends to sign up while they have the chance.

the basics of the game are coming together and i'll be honest at first i was kinda skeptical on the game, but like one other team, it's actively being worked on, and from how it seems it's being kept mostly private to allow players to reserve hype and not cause overhype either
i'm extremely excited to play this game based on the uniqueness of the survival aspect, and the experience for the cooperative play

Honestly surprised you devs did so much in-house testing without being able to restart missions without quitting. Seems like that would've been a huge hassle.

It's not about just restarting the level in itself, since we do MP, everything have to sync, and what you had picked up and have in your backpack etc etc

Plus crunch hours is a huge standard for many companies now, but it's slowly being worked on.

They will most likely be able to stream/record the game. To make people understand it is early access/alpha/beta, there will probably be a watermark in a corner of the game 🙂

So my guess is - it hits through enemies like it does in L4D2
I'd say the "sniper rifle" is... well, it's what would be considered a high-powered long distance weapon in the in-doors environment.
It's considered a "sniper rifle" within the context of GTFO and its specific environment. It's not the type of weapon that you'd use to snipe an enemy from half a mile in a military simulator game... 😝

Also, as far as determining what that difficulty should be, I think it would be a mistake to make it unforgivingly difficult as that would turn many people away
That isn't to say it should be easy or even average, by any means
But something easy to pick up and hard to master, which is what I get the impression they are going for
I'd be willing to guess that each mission is going to start off relatively simple and easy and progress in difficulty, making it easier to spot your own mistakes or the mistakes of your teammates as the difficulty ramps up

We still don't have any information about the eggs. Are they place holders for more gore, gibs, blood and etc? This was a huge question on the previous gameplay video back in September 2018, and I don't think we had any serious answers.
I mean, if this concerns a lot of people because they think it's out of picture for the horror theme, at least let us know.
The roadmap Alpha 2 page says something about addig more gore in general.

As the roadmap states, the first alpha is basically testing the network and other basic functions of the game. Graphical improvements and textures will come in later testing phases.

About the video i don't feel to like a lot the weapon decaying (unless those percentage were for other purposes).. in the test video they had something like 200 more ammo to shot sunce they made a good effort at the start to keep those for later use (going with melee and quitelly) and with just 50 shots the weapons were already at 50% or less... that is completelly nonsense...
The % means the amount of ammo remaining for that weapon/item.
While weapon durability sounds kind of awful, a stealthy approach for as long as possible would be more important
I do like how they did it. Conserving ammo is really important
But if it were the case to have weap durability.. that would be completelly crazy
As you can see, they started with like 50% ammo in the gameplay, so idk staying stealth and keep ammo is kinda the way to go

GTFO in-game currency is, of course, going to be potatoes.
You can also get some premium currency, French fries.
A scope lens wipe will cost 45 potatoes.
They are a single use consumable which may only be used once and then discarded.
How much potatoes would 1 french fry be?

I'm just saying that, your watching a trailer of someone else playing (probably on 1080p), which then has its quality lowered anyway because of YouTube. So, stream - youtube - and then you were upscaling to 2k. So yeah it probably looked worse.

Personally I like the muzzle flash. Its realistic actually, and makes the game more difficult to aim with and increases tension.

@acoustic nexus I guess a option to turn it down would be nice. I play a lot of shooter games and they all seem to be fine but the video was a little hard to watch for me because of the bright muzzle flash.
It could be several things that made it seem bad. But I never minded the extreme muzzle flashes depending on the game. And here at least it fits the mold, so to speak. But yeah, something tells me they have an option to turn that stuff down.
Totally agree, in that type of atmosphere, youd expect bright muzzle flashes. And it fits it too like you said.
It's just a little hard for people like me and a big turn off if it ends up not being changed or having the ability to turn it down.

I think the game in any case is designed to be "difficult" so it can be ok for the muzzle flashes. I mean, we need to test it and then report the experience after several hours of gameplay.
I'm thinking about a tutorial or "how to" for the computer stuff. In the gameplay video I saw the QUERY stuff for the computer and it is a lovely mechanic.

@livid galleon honest opinion About the trailer, it looks really intresting
its slow and well spooky but when done right could be very cool. The fast hoard parts are also nice where Pre plan is the key or else you get overrun, weapons look also cool and the darkness and fog where also neat in design choice, making it feel claustrophobic. The computer terminal was cool and a really nice idea that you can search up the objectives. Im prob gonna go trough the trailer maybe once or twice in slow motion to see some details, oh and before i forget, about the streaming part. I hope my pc can handle it plus the game

@livid galleon I did notice the glue gun ha a slight sound delay after it had been shot
I think that is because it sends out physics driven objects that have to be synced over the network, so the sound won't play until the host and client has "shaken hands" on where the blobs are going. It's a known bug that we'll look into. The important thing is of course that the tool works in terms of gameplay.
So, after watching the IGN vid:
- That intro sequence was AWESOME. Much more creepy than I expected. Very "Alien".
- Guns look great, especially that scanner.
A couple things I didn't like so much:
- UI feels less... readable than previous gameplay vids.
Looks like there's less info (teammate status?) and everything seems harder to read, maybe due to the "terminal" style font. - The first person animations during sprinting need more "shaking". It looks like the character just casually floats now.

For animation, I can tell you they don't have dedicated animator, it's all very basic and they want to focus on gameplay. At the beginning, we didn't even had reload animation, but community suggestion was taken and they took time to make some reload animation. (sorry for the delay guy I really wanted it!)
As for player status, from the gameplay and screenshot in #gtfo-media pinned section, you can hover cursor at a teammate and look at his loadout and % of ammo, health, etc.. This is by design as they want you to look and communicate with everyone. No information instantly given.
also a smaller UI/Hud was also a community sugestion to be little as possible or being small and not taking over the whole screen. About the teammate Info, yes it is hard to read
it be cool if there was a hardcore mode with no hud, but better rewards if finished with the match
well the game was hard for me when i played it last year on gamescom, hopefully it stayed that hard, if so, then just playin it first, and then i think a hardcore mode would be needed

my favorite aspect of the game is that it’s team oriented. everyone has a specific duty when playing and you can’t run and gun the entire game. makes it a bit more immersive imo

there is always "that guy" in any game. Worse there are people who will join just to run in and get people killed because that's what trolls do... will there be any kind of moderation/report/ban feature?

yeah, even something like a commendation system or review system can be abused... 😮 what about an "avoid player" button? Doesn't stop them from ruining a match, but black lists them from being put in a lobby with you again. eventually trolls would end up never getting groups
well the first alpha is all about network testing, to it isn not even the full product. so we can stay tuned how they trying to get a system like that:D
For the network test, it will be P2P not dedicated servers right?
The entire game is peer to peer, with their servers providing data storage for loot you have earned. The alpha test will always be the same loot however.

I don't recall seeing or hearing that. Dedicated servers are a lot more expensive in terms of system administration, cost of them, etc.
I don't think dedicated servers will be needed, as its not a game where you need millisecond accuracy. Hell even Destiny doesn't have dedicated servers and their PvP mode is pretty good network wise. GTFO is less demanding than that.
I only worry about it since i had to move from a high speed connection to DSL 25 megabit down and 1 up
P2P if there are any remote routing issues and i have a fun day, will mean no good P2P servers
If there is a dedicated closer, i wouldn't have to worry as much about latency of the peer far away
also gaming outside my region if they were connecting in centralized

Yeah, obviously, the game itself is playable, as media members have been playing the game since at least E3 2018, with gameplay footage taken from earlier dev builds. However, if you look at the roadmap, the biggest issue is the Quick Restart. As of right now, as I understand it, after you finish an expedition (Either through success or failure), you have to completely restart the game before you can run another expedition (ie Alt-F4 out of it and relaunch).

The version I played at E3 2018, at least after a failed expedition, you were just returned to the lobby, supposedly ready to drop back into it for another attempt.
I didn’t get that far, as I only had like 20 minutes between media appointments.

The Alpha will be a single map with a single objective type with randomized enemy and resource spawns as well as a randomized objective location and no character/gear progression, however, the full game will have a number of different maps (of varying size and difficulty) and character/gear progression.

I mean it took me like 5 days to modularize a janky ass plugin from another game, and went from a 1500 lines spaghetti code to a really nice looking "manager" and some functions to register the commands for that thingey (it was a command manager for SCP-079 in le funny intercom shouting game)
and I was doing that like 24/7 between loading screens
so the quick restart feature is either a rewrite of the entire loading system (that's what I did, but again, was a 1500 line spaghetti where I just needed to move stuff around) or they just have to work with what they have and if they didn't take into account quick restarts back then it's a really hard task to accomplish
The Alpha 1 will have a single playable mission, the Alpha 2 introduces 3 more.

But they are making it slow anyway. They've announced the game years ago and set a release for Fall 2018 (then Spring 2019, now Fall 2019 which will probably not happen again). At this point we are not choosing between fast and slow, but we are choosing between slow and very slow, but polished. Having Closed Alpha with major bugs is not a problem. It's part of the solution. Having many players to test and report issues is a boon for developers (big companies pay massive amount of salaries for QA departments). Actually the faster GTFO come to us (in closed non public environment) the faster it will improve and evolve.

So this hype balloon for GTFO is getting bigger each day, and if they released the game at any point the balloon will lose some air, so when things are 100% done to be a good Game of the Year competitor maybe the Manhattan-sized balloon has turned into a really little kids balloon that has so little air that nobody would care at that point, because people would be done with GTFO by the time they actually 100% got it. Not because it would be a good game, but because people would be tired of it of having played it too much.
I'm even considering not telling my friends to become ambassadors of this game just so they don't get bored quickly after 2 or 3 matches, well maybe because they get tired of games really quick but yeah those guys are exaggerate but remember when everyone was literally screaming for new battle royales?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The devs are working hard to reduce as many of the major bugs as possible, and even the medium ones too, so there shouldn't be very many noticeable bugs. You'll be able to restart the expedition and go back in to try again if you fail, improve, get better, etc.

With friends in steam, just has to be someone who also is in the alpha
@manic prairie You can only play the alpha with other people that have the alpha, doesn't matter if they got it from your gifts you have, or if they get a key themselves. The people you play with will need to be on your friends list. When you start the game you can see lobbies that are available, and invite people.
It's a 3-4GB download from what i hear
