I agree with Runar that the bad rep comes from the big mass of first-time-developers releasing crap games in combination with the mandatory "Made with unity" logo that you need to have unless you pay for Unity. The whole thing is funny since if you think about it from Unitys perspective it should be the other way around=)

A couple of great things with Unity: It is super flexible, if we need to we can create very custom solutions that fits our game well, the rendering and the culling system are prime examples that uses a lot of the knowledge we have about the limitations about the levels to be more effective. It also has an excellent profiler that shows us exactly where the biggest costs are, and we are pretty dilligent with our milliseconds.

@paper swan Depends of where your passions are, do you want to program or do art or a little bit of everything? Unity has a lot of tutoruial projects and guides that can get you more comfortable witht the editor and how it works.
Otherwise just learning C# helps a lot, you still kind of need to program in Unity, while in unreal I guess you can use blueprints for a lot,. At least if you are on a smaller projects.

I have some neat ideas for games, but I don't know if they will look like I imagine them being, as some are quite expansive. Alright but start with prototyping then, also one of Unitys strengths, it's SO easy to create test projects and try things out. You should be able to prove your game design with boxes and other temp-graphics, even better, if it's good when it is looking like crap, it will likely be even better when you pay for art etc.

@paper swan golden rule of Unity: don't learn C# with Unity. Unity loves to bastardise some parts of C# internally, so we generally recommend that you learn C# in a normal context (console applications are fine) before moving to Unity ^^

U can still be tracked by the use of the data u give by the simple fact of being connected to a phone line , for example. Yes, protecting your privacy is good , yes , if you can , and have the knowledge , u should try to disable/enable features that better protect you , or use software that doesnt "invade" ur privacy as much , but you will still be giving your data away just by the sinle fact of being part of the net , by being connected.
obviously u as a consumer can decide to avoid those softwares if you think they take too much from u just for the single fact they give u a free service , thats a given , but its not so simple nor worth it in most cases
now , there are lots of small things you can do to increase ur privacy by 1000% , like moving from Google Chrome to other browsers ( i personally use vivaldi ) , using other search engines ( like duckduckgo ) , disabling very easy to tweak stuff on ur windows , disable wifi/4G tracking on ur phone , downloading utilities that disable or uninstall bloatware...... but thats to the user discretion
And its the user who has to decide if its worth disabling. For example , i have my phone 4G/Wifi trackin on at all times and its not the first time i have to use google's very useful trackin utility to find my phone at home ( cause fucking hell im a mess when it comes to leaving stuff in places near me and then not finding them past days )
