About time this allowed up to date units. This should be allowed across all buildings and include latest generations....not just the previous generation

Once the new levels drop, you will get these options

I just came back recently, and I am still trying to figure out how to unlock units in there to use.

I did that, and I see the unit is no longer shaded, but there's still a lock icon over it.

click on war factory, click on button "war produdction" and select the unit
during an (defence) attack it will produce that unit at intervals

ah sorry, have a look in tech centre, does it show up there?
also, what level is your war factory?

It's in the tech center and I have some upgrades done on that unit, but it seems I need to be lvl 41 War factory? Still doesn't make sense as I have some older units available, but lock icon is on every single unit. It's lvl 40 now, so I guess I'll try upgrading that next.

new levels of war factory makes new levels of units available for war production, normally 1 level behind current series, until upgraded.

I only started playing this again recently... everything is so far behind. None of my units are strong enough to do much. Lots of catching up to do. Thanks for your help.
