#Suppress specific pages from search suggestions

Is there a way to do this? Say you have a spoilery page name and you want to hide it from people searching "D" or whatever. But you want it to still be accessible in search if you type the full word.

I do not think so. At least I never heard of such filter.

Maybe if the page is in another namespace and you put a redirect to it

feral kestrel
#

redirects do show up as suggestions

#

unless there's a way to disable this (although not sure that's desirable)

plain pendant
#

They do but they might not if they are to another namespace

#

I just tried searching for "Discord" on Undertale Wiki and it only showed up after I typed the whole thing

#

Unless that's a CirrusSearch issue

feral kestrel
#

interesting

#

what search are you using

plain pendant
#

Also CirrusSearch, I'm just not sure if it was improperly indexed or something

feral kestrel
#

it takes a while for new pages to go in the search suggestions right

#

gonna test this out

#

but also another thing I noticed is your wiki and some others have bigger search suggestions with pictures

plain pendant
#

That's a Vector 2022 thing

feral kestrel
#

ahh

#

runescape wiki also seems to have this but I'm guessing they're using their own custom vector

plain pendant
#

Yeah, or they somehow modified the search with gadgets

#

Your wiki also has pictures on Minerva

true

feral kestrel
#

ohoho it works

#

brilliant idea

#

how'd you even come up with this

#

noticing something interesting

#

redirects only seem to show up in partial search suggestions if the page it redirects to is not in the search suggestions

#

my theory on this is that the results from other namespaces are actually in the search, they're just hidden

#

and because of that the redirect is suppressed from the results unless you type the exact words

#

hmmm

#

I should probably test this cause it has implications on the way you deal with redirects that aren't the same words

plain pendant
#

Yeah I mean they should all be indexed but search results from other namespaces generally appear only if you type the prefix for that namespace

#

I think there is some kind of override when you type the exact page name

#

Because even when CirrusSearch hasn't indexed anything on the wiki typing the exact page name will get you the result

#

But in all other cases results from non-content namespaces are filtered out from search

feral kestrel
#

hmm yeah you're right
