personally i just think the heart barriers are just a game design choice, but if...
oooo in this case the fact that the farewell barrier is skippable could show some more instability in maddy's mind when she gets there. like, showing that she is so determined that she could even skip her goals or something?

they might be real cuz im pretty sure that granny says to madaline that the mountain does not think shes ready for Core if you go talk to her after teh wall appears

The heart barriers in the game always confused me. Are they an actual physical barrier, or are they just a goal Madeline set for herself. Actually, if I'm correct that B and C sides aren't canon, it could be meta, and non-existent, even in Madeline's mind.

personally i just think the heart barriers are just a game design choice, but if they were to be canon they could represent madeline setting goals on herself? like, the first barrier appears after the summit when maddy has already become one with badeline and she has a clearer mind so idk maybe it's just that

That would be so haunting to see if it actually existed though — You’re prepping to go on an adventure to find yourself, and all of a sudden a giant wall falls down blocking your path simply because you’re not ready for that the dangers that lie ahead
Later on, barrier skip could be proving to yourself that you’re ready for the challenges ahead, whether the universe wants to admit it or not
